Ouch. How far can he get with 6GB?
OK GAR,
TRY this is for 180 BCLK and 1440Mhz DDR3, use any cpu clock ratio you like.
You can use the template to show us your memory timings that work at 140 BLCK so we can go from there
Also what ram is it and what rating?
I am assuming they are 1600Mhz rated, so going for 1440Mhz for 12GB sounds more realistic.

giving subtimings is worthless, cause rams form different manufacturers have different subtimings.
Thanks for the input guys, i will tell him to try those out, the memory is all the same, patriot viper 1600 c9
what letter do you think they will get up to before F6 arrives for extreme , cant be far away
If the ram is C9, your friend should try the looser advanced timing controls
47-7-7-14-104-7-28 with 9-9-9-28 standard timing controls. The turnaround settings should be whatever your ram sets automatically when you use 133 BCLK @ 1600Mhz.
But the main area to adjust outside of memory timings for 12GB to work is the voltage settings for the MCH and the DRAM volts/subvolts.
Changing the DRAM subvolts should be your last option if all else fails.
Also the clock skews of 150-200ps had some positive results for me for certain overclocks I tried. One of my cores would be stuck at 100% usage trying to load gui.exe(ET6) during windows logon. Changing the skews solved this.
hey guys, dont rip the Caps off next to the CPU. The board wont work then ;)
Bobbylite = massive nutsack. Next time, please don't foot stomp that kneaded rubber into the cap section lol.
GAR if overclock still fails, the following setting could solve it.
##Channel A/B/C Misc Timing Control##
Round Trip Latency 58 [AUTO] manually put in for channels A,B,C : 62, 64, 66 respectively (very important setting, if too low will not boot)
I overlooked this, when having problems overclocking system, this should be one of the first things one does. Thanks for pointing that out honourable ReverendMaynard ;)
Also nothing helps more than extra qpi/vtt.
Hornet may well be right about the timings being useless, but maybe not.
That's why I would write down and post what my ram timings are at 1600Mhz using 133 bclk.
Can you do 1600Mhz @ 133 BCLK with 12GB?
I was just thinking if you can't go past 140 bclk and your running 12GB at 1400Mhz
then you can't hit 144 bclk and do 1440Mhz, right???
So you are probably better off trying 175 bclk NOT 180 bclk.
Why? 180 @ 8x gives you 1440Mhz which you haven't achieved yet with 12Gb's
175 @ 8x gives you 1400Mhz which you know you can do.
If still no go, then you should try 166 BCLK with an 8x mem multi and uncore 16x for 1333Mhz to see if that works.
Make sure you manually change all the timings, but keep them at the 1600Mhz C9 timings for now.
Don't worry about losing Mhz you can still tighten timings to get close to comparable performance, especially with higher BLCK.
I just set XMP and Standard and the timing was auto set by the board to 10/10/10/24. VoltsVTT 1.34, Memory 1.64. Runs at 1680 (BCLK 210).

I like EIST, works nice. But lowering of the vcore to 1.040V stops if I raise the blck higher than 139. Also setting Vcore manually seems to stop lowering vcore as well. This sucks, can there be a workaround for this, must be a bios thing?
Well time for another handoff, had problems with 1866 XMP even with manual timings needed a bit too much qpi/vtt so going with 1600Mhz.
Quick burn in 24 minute run of prime, no turbo or HT, temps go from 50-80 and stabilise after about 5 minutes, noctua NH-U12P push pull.
My North Bridge(MCH) temp shows 65 degrees under load , idles ~60, the bios is about 5 degrees lower. Is this a worry? Put a fan on it?
The machine is pretty responsive, the boot time from power on is pretty slow with the vista loading bar doing about 30 passes, but the vista logon time is less than 10 seconds.
Ahhh well back to my trusty X38-DQ6.

Hi there everybody just got my new system runing, with the UD5 and the gskill 1600 so now just looking for the best bios around and some OC help, this is a hole new thing here, nothing campered to the last system i had(E8400/p5q deluxe)..
:)
Anybody? :)
I have to ask (respectfully) what's up with the QPI/VTT being set higher than the vcore? At that same speed I run 1.4v vcore and 1.335v QPI/VTT. My personal rule of thumb with these 920's is keep those voltages high on the vcore side and the QPI/VTT around .05v or more lower than the vcore. That helps allot with heat, and from my experience as will a few other mates, that theory works out pretty well on top end frequencies (4.4-4.7ghz). I know cpu's vary allot, but if you gave yourself more time with that setup you'd have it rippin'.
anybody wanna give a guy some help here? :) just got this system and wanted to know where i can go with this :)
