How did you expose the LEDs after sleeving? With a knife or just flame?

Any pics of connector you added to end?

Curious how to do this as I just ditched cathode tubes for new build in favor of surface mount LED strips from Oznium.

Problem with all those (flexible) strips out there:
Too wide, often nor black, sometimes "bad" LEDs (or often not the color you want) and they are flexible :D

That are the points why I created my own layout (didn't produce them at home :D):

The capacitor on the cable isn't what makes your video card whine. It's the cap's on the actual video card. If your video card is whining, I would suggest to RMA it and get a new one. Certain "brands" used to suffer from the whine. If you do a search in these forums as well as [H] you'll see it's the video card and not the powersupply. The only time you get a whine from the powersupply is if the powersupply is bad. Corsair had a bunch of bad PSU's in their AX1200 line. They found the problem and corrected it in their Q&A department.

WoW!! What beauty in this sleeving. I just ordered from MDPC and can not wait to get my package... I do have a question though. Is there any reference to know what cable color goes back into the correct slot in the connector after you have pulled them all out, or what technique is the best way to go about this without confusion? I am sorry if this question has been asked, but this is a very long thread and pics are eye openers....

Just got my Toughpower 775W which I was planning to sleeve, but then I found this...

I can get rid of the ferrite ring, whatever it does, (there's one on all four of the PCIE modular cables), or I can buy/make new PCIE cables. Meh...

You can cut the shrink off the ferrite ring and tap with a hammer and it will shatter.

Done it on every Corsair I've owned and no issues.

I'm New Here, and also a noob when it comes to cable sleeving. With that said, i can't buy from MDPC-X since i don't have a paypal account ( long story short it's a problem with my bank statements ) and I was looking through amazon and i found these are they any good?! Thanks in Advance.

There is a photo/template for what colour goes where (maybe on the first page) but I found works for me (since I'm not doing this all the time) is to do them one at a time - that way its easy to just plug them back into the last / only open slot. This makes sense also because if you are not making your own custom length cable, and just resleeving an exitsting cable - each lead is NOT the exact same length and for a *perfect* fit of the sleeving - you need to measure each cable lead and cut the sleeving for that exact one - millimeters make a difference for that *perfect* sleeving job.

Or you can just make your own guide - draw a diagram of what colour came out of which pin slot - or take a picture before you start.

Quick answer as I'm here - my 2c - if you are doing a PSU, and you want it to look like the photos here...then you want to sleeve every lead (24 in a main power cord to the motherboard) - that means you need 1/8" which THAT KIT does NOT have enough of. Plus it looks like it has 3/4" or other which you will never use. So, unless you want to buy like 10 of those kits to get enough 1/8" sleeving, its not a good deal for what (I believe) you want to do.

Short and sweet answer, but I'm sure my better's here will have even greater answers for you.

So, unless I buy 10 of these ones i won't have enough 1/8" cable to the whole PSU. But, what if I'm using a modular PSU and i don't be using that many cables anyway from it anyway ( Silverstone ST1000W ) how many of these would be enough. if it's too expensive I'll ask a friend of mine to get me the sleeving tools from MDPC-X.

Here is the math:

If your modular PSU has a 10" ATX 24 pin power cord (to the motherboard) - you need - 24 (leads) x 10" (each lead) = 240" of 1/8" sleeving - just for the power cord.

Now, that's exact so, factor in 10% for errors or waste, so add another 24", so you ~22 feet of 1/8" sleeving.

If you want to also do your PCI-E power connector, lets say you have a GTX460 - so that's 2 x 6pin x 10" (length of video cable), so that another 120" or 10 feet more - don't forget errors or waste so +10% = 11ft

Grand total is 33 ft of 1/8" sleeving and you haven't done the 8 pin motherboard connector or any HD / DVD drives.

PS. I don't know exactly how much 1/8" sleeving is in that kit - so I was just making a point by saying you needed 10 kits. The kit says 30ft of sleeving is included but the picture shows 4 different sizes so that's only 7.5ft per size IF is evenly distributed. I didn't see them specify what exactly is included, but based on only that observation - you'ed need 5 of those kits. AND that's ASSUMING 1/8" is actually part of that kit.


PPS. You mentions sleeving tools - that's a whole other ball game. Some people use bent staples, but the ATX pin tools makes life soooo much easier - its really your call.

That's really good, you helped me a lot with this info. It's not stated how much 1/8" cable is included in this that's why I asked here. and about the tool kit My friend has the MDPC-X kit I'll be using that for sure.

EDIT: I checked how long is the included 1/8" cable is and i found out it was 10' , which is not nearly enough for anything and the rest of the cables sleeving included is really of no use to me right now. I've decided i'll ask my friend to order me around 40 meters for a bunch of different colors and Heatshrinks of course to go with that. Thanks for your help really appreciated.

That's what I'm going to do. It's a lot easier to get what i want from MDPC-X then buying these kits from Amazon.com, and also a lot cheaper. 2-3 weeks and the sleeving should start!! Thanks for your help.

^---Monoprice sells pre-sleeved cables. Since the cables are black to begin with, they look pretty good. I have a few of their sleeved DVI and HDMI cables. Otherwise, doing it yourself would be a biatch because you'd have to redo the connectors.
