Athlon XP-M 2400+ 35Watt

Well, Excal is stocking them again:

But the feckers put the price to the same as a 2600+ XP-M.

So the question is IQYHA 45W 2600+ or AQYHA 35W 2400+?

Can anyone help me decide? If it makes a difference my ambient temps will vary between as low as 15C during Winter or as high as around 28C during Summer (thanks to air conditioning) - I'm in Western Australia.

*EDIT* Oh, and it's to be combined with a 7000A-AlCu, Epox 8RDA+ rev2.1, 2x256MB PC3000 Hyper-X, 350W Enermax, Chenbro Xpider w/ 120mm exhaust

uhh, my I stepping 2600 only does 2.5 with 2 volts\, not saying youll have the same luck, but just pointing out that not all i stepping xpm's are amazing.

I've read most of this thread with little posts about results, come on guys, i need steepings/results with these 35watters...

i am so close to buying one.

i think we all realize this man? the thing is IF you notice the failure percentage is alot less then it used to be when we were dealing with normal bartons. besides another thing i think we all realize is that even though these molbiles seem to have a higher sucsess rate its still all a mater of luck when it comes right down to it reguardless of the stepping you have....

But that doesn't mean the chips are not very good. Almost everybody hits 2400-2500 MHz with low (<1,8v) vcore and "normal" cooling. And many of these people are the kind of overclockers that reach say 2500 MHz, then settle with that.

Thanks guys those results you linked to convinced me to pick up a 35w mobile. Hopefully ill get it by monday.

This is true, i was just saying that because it seems like 2.5 is more common on the 35w chips, even the A stepping ones.

Looks like one other guy got the same stepping, so highly likely anyone who ordered on that first day (or probably later) will get the same. Will test today and post results.

mine is T852213C40164 so if it really is true that the last four numbers stand for batch, then mine is a earlier batch than yours... that's the only difference... and my core is a reddish color..

well that didnt take long! new egg is sold out of those 2400 35watters! so much for the theory that they have to sell out the "A" series to get to the "I" series!!

I read that before, i just don't understand why they would sell the A's then the I's.. Why do they even care which ones to sell first?.. it would be understandable if they run out of chips and had to get more from AMD but this time around they may get the I stepping..

i have no idea man? infact im with you i would think they would just have a big box of them not like they are sorted into "A's" on the right and "I's" to the left?!?! anyways my whole point is that they are sold out and that the theroy of them sellin the A's before the I's must not be true? beside i dont think the guy that sugested that knew for sure i just think he was speculating thats all? anyways just my 2 pennys worth....

hey...

this chip appears to be no better than my 2500+ mobile IQYHA

at the moment it's sitting pretty at 2500 mhz (10 x 250).

i'm going to keep it here for a few days and then work my way up to 2.6+.

So far this chip is doing 2.6 @ 1.9, which seems to be slightly above average for normal air cooling with respect to XP-M 2400s. Also it seems to be high Vcore-tolerant, unlike my XP-M 2600, which would get random reboots in Prime at this voltage.

That's not the best stepping you guys have.... but don't have your hopes too high on getting the sweet IQYHA or IQYFA steppings, I have seen no IQYHAs, only IQYFA batch I've seen is the one my chips is from, and it's not big.

2,6@1,9v is not bad, but I have been able to get that at 1,66v with a little cold air (5C). It's a shame that the really good steppings/chips are so rare...

Of course I was speculating, that's what you do when you try to predict the future. :rolleyes: Basing it on the fact that itbutikken was selling all "A" cores, before they started selling "I"s. I'm sure they are divided into separate boxes, because when they were mass produced, they were no doubt labeled consecutively as to their revision codes.

"I"s are not newer, but they may have just been designed using later manufacturing techniques or even a different FAB. I don't know, but there's a reason AMD changed their codes and whatever that is, those ones seemed to be doing better. NewEgg is out of stock, but their supplier hasn't changed so the fact that they are out of stock doesn't mean a thing.

Eh maybe I'm wrong though about the "I"s. Endre's link doesn't seem to mesh with that... Most of the ones with the later dates seem to be doing better. Argh, who knows!

yeah so? whats the problem? i wasnt sayin anything bad about you. i know what you were tryin to say and it made sense but seeings how they have sold out i dont think that they were holding out on us with the "I" cores? to be honest man i think all they had were the "A's" unless a bunch of people who got the last of the batch got the "I's" and arent tellin us about it or havent got them yet? all i know is i didnt get one :(
