Just how much of a big deal is 1866 vs 1600 "default" memory speed If I am going to be CPU and memory overclocking anyway using a good 1600 1.5v CL9 kit ? I wont be using the on-board video ether.

Trying to find a nice 1866 kit without big heat spreaders is practically impossible it seems, and I don't want big heat spreaders as that makes finding a CPU cooler to much trouble unless I go Corsair H series, which im not overly comfortable with being my only option.

Can anybody confirm if the the APU VDDP default on a 3850 is 1.1v or 1.2v? Also will disabling the GPU help the OC?

Hi guys,

The only method I found for correct temperature reporting on Llano is via latest SpeedFan beta. Have a look at Temp3 and you'll get your numbers. Hopefully this isn't limited to my a75m-ud2h.

DRAM / PLL receiver = VDDR/VDDP ("APU 1.2V" on Asus boards) on Llano is 1.2V by default.

I would not recommend running the GNB/CNB ("VDDNB on Asus boards") anything higher than 1.25V.
1.3V seems to degrade the GNB/CNB quite quickly even when properly cooled.

I'm not on Asus but Gigabyte UD4H and the APU VDDP "normal" setting is 1.1v. Would setting this to the default 1.2v, help with RAM clocks then?

what version of the bios are you running, cause it sounds like one of the older ones with a missing option, the f7 revision has it properly reflected as 1.2v

Any idea what the equivalent of this on Biostar boards is? I have a TA75A+... closest thing I seen is DDR-PHY adjustment

Yeah, APU DDR-PHY/PCI-E on Biostar.

Some mixed results on my Llano 3670k.... Could be my power supply holding me back. Unfortunately am using a 20pin ATX Enermax EG465P-VE I scrounged up from an old build. Don't have anything better on hand without gutting my current system :(. Enermax +12v is a little low and I suppose I'm not helping my board get all the juice it can being a 20pin ATX + 4pin. I'm going to play PSU merry-go-round with my current system now and drop in the 620HX in to test it out.

With the older 20pin Enermax , the best I can do right now is 3.6GHz (24x150 Bclk), 16GB 30nm Samsung Low Profile @ 2000MHz 9-10-9-27 . Rock Solid Linpack / IBT stable, but can't get any higher than that. Usually results in an instant reboot instead of Linpack failure. Playing around with different multiplier setups, dropping ram to 1333MHz didn't seem to help. I've cycled through all Biostar TA75A+ Bios revisions, nothing significant.

Pretty impressed with power consumption and gating features on Llano. Full overclock vs stock ... the difference in idle power is very close. The system that it is replacing (Phenom II x3 720BE) eats up a lot more power idle (almost more than double). It will make for a good 24/7 system replacement. Definitely not a very good overclocking platform, but it is fun and something different/challenging. I will post some screenshots of my best results once I try out a few more things and rule out factors like the PSU.

Think we can extend that to don't run much higher on Llano in general. Good way to take out the GPU even sub zero with +300mv on the giga.

I haven't had any degregation issues on either chip and i have ran up to 1.45v

don't know if is the same for you but with my llanos are better with low voltages, specially on cpu/nb...
btw i tested my new 3870k on air...i confirm worse bus clock than locked llanos..max bus i reached was 157 Mhz...

Would there be a consensus from all who have posted in this thread as to the best choice of FM1 ATX(not MATX) motherboard in terms of hardware quality(VRMs and so on),BIOS quality(Overclocking results and regular updates) value and manufacturer RMA/Support ? am in the UK for the purposes of pricing and the RMA/Support question.

May have solved my memory and CPU cooler issues so this is the last thing besides Case to 100% before setting in stone the plan for the Llano build(which actually for the most part besides the obvious changes doubles up as the 960T build)

Yeah it just kinding depends on how hard your pushing the stuff, When your pouring ln2 on stuff it mostly becomes a lack of voltage issue it seems for the supreme top end, For air and phase change its just enough voltage to get by. This is also very true for the none K model cpus it seems, though i havent tested this yet outside the 3650 and 3850. Will probably be picking up one of every chip if i can afford it :D

@sinner, the above applys to the motherboards aswell, if your not gonna be pouring ln2 on it, the power phases on most of the boards are more than enough, I had no problem even with the Biostar ta75a+ getting to 4.7ghz on a 3850 under ln2. Though it seems that for air clocks gigabytes voltage control and baseline settings seem to be the best to work with. The asus boards tend to drive the chips a little heavier voltage wise than you intend, leaving you with much more heat.

cpu is scaling well with the vcore, the voltage that my cpu's don't like is cpu/nb.. i have the best performance vith it at 1,2/1,25v maximum, if i increase more, performance is worse..today i'll contact a LN2 supplier and in the next week i'm going to do some LN2 testing and see what i can do..hope to be a litte lucky:D:D

I take it if im OCing and these things are multi unlocked there is very little point in getting the 3870K over the 3670K ? ..3870K is £17 more.. would spending that give me a better end result ?

better gpu in the 3870k, but from my testing and others, the average on air cooling is about ~3600mhz cpu ~900mhz gpu. (for 3870k)

I got best results out of 3870 with the old 0802 bios: F1A75-M PRO 0802TS-D1 Debug

Full debug options available.

Will be running discrete gpu so id guess the 3670k would be just fine and save me a few ££. But I could be wrong..

1903 is the first one which has it actually working for a 6550D GPU..
Need to OC from Windows.
