I got to tell you I am a bit pissed with these Rampage boards with there limited bclk .
+230 is not so limited Bclock anymore... it all depends a lot on your CPU too man, my i950 has never gotten over 230, on this board it does... plus you got an extreme CPU, why need Bclock anyway...
I knew someone was going say I have a 975 so why care hahaha . Why ? Because bclk is very important . I scored this 975 I have , luckily . I will be going to a 32nm chip soon and sure as heck am not going with the 980 because of price , so bclk is very important to me . I like Asus boards and hate to go EVGA . We have one guy out here hit 230 and the other guy can't budge 220 so I would like to see from more users on max R3E bclk there seeing . I was hoping Asus stepped up to the plate on the new R3E in this area . However I guessing it hasn't changed from what we were getting with R2E boards , mine does 220 100% stable , anything over that which is only 222 degrades the performance . That is with two different 920's and this 975 in it now . Like I said I like Asus ROG boards , the AMD ones worked awesome I had . The bclk I wasn't happy with at all with my board , R2E rev.113 .
I don't think it's always 100% mobo related. Like said before the CPU and cooling play a big part.
Also aware that most users that can't get over 226-230Bclock don't even mind to post here as someone already posted 245 and 250 Bclock in this thread... I have to work to get even 233 stable here... wished I had an extreme CPU... if you have a certified high Bclock CPU at hand, then you can maybe blame the mobo...
so as the info comes out on this Asus, which i am looking to get real soon, Does it seem to be a better board then the classy
and i guess the only other board on par but not released is the UD9P....am i missing any other boards in this class...

But do you need 4 way SLI ? I don't so I got one of these and I am sticking a 930 in it come next week!
In my opinion, no. At least at this stage of early BIOS and under water cooling, Classified is just a much more mature board all round, and it shows with a more predictable outcome with BIOS settings. Although I have to say that the Asus is much more intuitive with regards to ease of overclocking. RC TweakIt is awesome. :up:
Anyone that clocks high Uncore with high RAM speeds knows that VTT voltage is imperative to those settings.
The Intel Spec advices maximum VTT of 1.4V for 32nm 980X, and 1.35V for the rest of the i7 900 series. And to run Memory at speeds over 1000Mhz often requires over 1.4V for 40nm where the UCLK multi is at least 2X the DRAM multi, and with the 32nm 980X with it's ability to run with 1.5X UCLK multi, requiring over 1.3V VTT for stable operation. So a deviance of 0.05~0.10V from what is set is VERY significant when the margin between what is regarded as "Safe" and "Stable" voltages are so small.
Now, Asus provides a jumper switch to turn on load-line calibration, which brings the R3E's actual VTT voltage in line with what is actually set, with minimal droop, and in line with what other motherboards has already incorporated as default configuration such as the EVGA Classified.
From your tone it seems that you are hesitant to touch the jumper as it's a physical switch on the motherboard as opposed to a setting inside the BIOS. Believe me, you can do as much if not more damage changing settings in the BIOS, assuming it does any damage at all in the first place. Before all these fancy BIOS menus and settings, many of the overclocking features were unlocked or even set using on board jumpers, and it actually turns out to be more reliable as it is a physical connection, and not dependent on the quality of the BIOS.
What you do with the VTT-LL jumper is of course up to you, but don't undermine it's significance as a viable and very accessible setting, just implemented in a different way, which plays a very large role at increasing set voltage accuracy and stabilising memory/Uncore overclocks. :up:
Please change 1.875V to 1.35V as stated in Intel Spec, so someone don't get confused.
I've tried everything I can to try and get 4.2 Ghz stable as it was on my UD5, but it just BSODs within 10 minutes. I'm now waiting for a new official Bios (I dont flash mobo bioses with anything thats not from the manufacturer's webpage).

Ive checked out all 9 pages and as no one has mentioned it I thought I would, can somebody please confirm that a raid 0 array is acheivable on the 2 6gbs ports using the marvel controller.
intitial chat about this on the asus forums were ( and still are) a bit confusing. if the answer is yes , do you have to install the driver during the win 7 install ?
if anyone had this set up using raid 0 ssd or not please advise how you did it ,

well , this is why I asked the question, as when I first spoke about this in the Asus forums even the big wigs said it was not possible but it seems raid 0 is achievable on the two 6gbs ports, the marvel 9128 controller suppoorts 6gbs raid, there are ppl in the Asus forum who since this first discussion, confirm they have done it.
ctrl+m during post brings the screen up ( as opposed to ctrl+i for the intel page)

So, I just realized that I can actually link these 2 controllers together when AHCI is anabled for the onboard 6Gb/s device because of the identical Marvell chipset.
So I can either control the on-board device from the High-Point card bios/software or vice-versa. In essence they become extended port multipliers.... of each-other, or linked Raid Controllers through SAF-TE monitoring, Amazing stuff, yet very tricky, which Is why the SSD is currently installed on the intel SATA 3Gb/s (ICH10) for now until the weekend when I can really sit down and try it out.

Hello all just getting things ready to install. I have a couple of question concerning the two EATV12V plugs. I have a Corsair HX850 with a single 8 pin 12v plug that can be split into a 4+4 but doesnt reach.
1) there are 2 EATX12V labeled accordingly but they have 4 of the 8 pins covered, are you guys using both of these 12v plugs?
2) and if so are you taking the black caps off? or maybe using both but only 4 pins each?
Sorry if this is a noob ? but my previous boards all use a single 4 pin plug. I assume these are for better O/C stability but not sure if I should just use one or both. I plan on O/C my I7-930.

While I only have one Crucial C300 I thought I would go into the controller BIOS and fudge around. Whilst in the BIOS is was asking me to select more than one drive. Sounds like RAID to me.
I plan on getting one more C300 256GB and would love to mess around with RAID ) but will most likely use them independantly for transcoding, but still interested in this.
TWO C300's in RAID 0 would be just a utterly killer setup, probably better than my 4 Vertex on ICH... I would think....
as far as I can see ( and Im still yet to set my RE3 up) the additional 8 pin power is for very high end o/c stability, if you have a spare 4/8 pin then it cant hurt to connect it but if your only going around 4 ghz my guess is you probably dont need it but dont quote me !!
