I commend you on your completly awesome rig jcool. It's tempting me to do something similar.. However would anyone happen to know which waterblocks would fit this motherboard properly? I mean there's a lot of blocks that support these mounting holes (socket 604 holes right?) but also this close together? I don't think an EK supreme would fit..
I'm using the EK supreme waterblocks on my S771 dual system.

Not the best performers ever but probably perfectly fine for this.

Something to keep in mind with HS and waterblocks for these systems.
socket 604 and socket 771 have the same measurements on the board for mounting BUT the cpu's sit at different heights.
This is old news but with all the new people getting into dual socket boards needs to be repeated.
If you use a socket 604 HS on a socket 771 board the HS will not make full contact with the cpu.
Socket 771 cpu's sit lower on the board than the 604's did and the HS for them have shorter "posts" to allow for the difference.
App 3/32" if I remember and I learned the hard way.
Instant 92C on clovers when I tried it..
Scared the crap out of me and you never saw a system shut down so fast.:D
Be carefull..Make sure the HS is for socket 771 not socket 604.

Thankfully, height difference doesn't bother you when using Thermalrights or waterblocks.

Depending on the heatsink style you can shorten the posts.. or remove them completely.

I have been researching this type of build for about 4 months, it would appear that jcool's machine is one of the very best if not the best for the price.
jcool, could you please post your current bios settings? I'm using some different vid cards in crossfire mode, I'm waiting on the bits o machine to arrive but my build will be similar. I have found an interesting card that has a great review and puts out good numbers on OC for very cheap.

:up: Wow- jcool your build is worthy of a book, I know I have read your thread lots of times! or front page somewhere, it's mostly affordable, say about $3K US for a finished machine with OS. Vs- $6K for similar or worse numbers, but of course you have to build it, not just buy it, but that's half the fun.

Actually my build is about ~1100€ + tax, so that's not even 3000$ depending on the current €/$ relation. If you factor in a bigger Vid card 3k is about realistic.
Bios settings are not that special, just flash to latest bios and set everything according to your preferences. You can leave all precache and EIST/C1E options enabled, and be sure to enable the SF bypass. Also I'd change the PCI latency timer to 32 but that's about all there is to it.
About the GFX, do you want it to have any 3D power at all? Cause a 2600 isn't really more than a HDTV accelerator... get at least a 3870 if you want to game.
Oh yeah, make sure you get an EPS capable PSU or you won't get to have fun. ALso added this to the red headline inj post #1.

a Little more then: This board ships with 3x different length "posts" to screw into the backplate, to accommodate different mounting posts on various incarnations of Xeon heatsinks. As Movieman stated above, make sure to use the correct length that will assure good clamping pressure on the cpu.
Who tests/runs this mobo with one CPU?
If you want the full package, you need EPS. Simple as that.
