R680 runs COD4 really well
CES 2008: Another card spotted
If you put one R680 with two RV670s in the Phenom machine, you end up with some great performance in some modern games. We had the chance to see the R680, Radeon 3870 X2 out of the box, and at the same time we've seen one in the executives' hands.
The one in the box can render Call of Duty 4 at 2650x1600 resolutions at very playable frame rates, but we didn’t actually find out how good the scores were.
We can tell that the card is real, and that it should be out by the end of the month. We had pictures of it in November and it is the same one, just with a bit better drivers now.
Here is happy Arun with his baby.

R680 powers Intel's X48
CES 2008: Intel's gone wild
Intel is happy to share with the world that it has a good relationship with ATI, and that it is happy to support ATI's current and future products.
Those two companies put together a rather interesting setup that included the 9770 3.2GHz CPU from Intel, an X48 Intel motherboard and an R680 graphic card.
R680 is already known as Radeon 3870 X2, and it should be available later this month or early next month.
This is what they look like together, and even in Skulltrail Intel was happy to tell the world that it supports two RV670 cards; and that with the right driver it can even do four cards.

Agreed! Can't wait till we see what this beast can do.
Some foreshadowing. I wonder how much heat (watts) both cores and the PLX bridge will produce. ~250w? Wonder how EK and the other watercooling companies will make their blocks. Very awkward configuration.
Edit:
Oh man we are so close. Drivers look almost done, the product is done. Its time to give ATI some laxatives to push this out into the market.
cant wait till the end of the month now!! my x38 will be here thursday waiting for two of these :D and possibly a E8500 @ 4 / 4.5 gig :D
Not bad at all but i think ill keap my 8800Ultras and wait for R700 to roll back Radeon+AMD.
if the pic's about the next nvidia card turn out to be true (i.e. dual pcb) then the radeon 3870x2 got a massive advanatge due it being far easier to fit aftermarket coolers.
R680 is drawing quite a bit more interest than 9800GX2 is :D
You said 28 Jan... OK, I'll sleep till then :D
What is that supposed to mean. 2 RV670 is CF, Intel supports that since ages.Quote:

And: "two RV670 cards" = 3870X2. So Intel is "happy to tell the world that it supports the 3870X2? Duh! why not?
Now, "the right driver" being Intel chipset driver (for X48?) <--and X38 then? , or new Catalyst? <--CF already works with current Catalyst. So?
What a poor message.. what's it really saying?
HD3870X2 runing COD4 @ 2650x1600, Very high, AA Enable ( AMD Phenom & Beta driver )
Video >> http://au.gamespot.com/video/939217/...amd-booth-tour
Even if they priced this at $450 to compete with the pricing on the 9800GX2, it'd still be a good deal if the X2 is determined to beat out the GX2, and the possibility is there.
Lets hope that crossfireX driver brings some nice performance to the table.
Here is a post explaining more about it
Can't waiiiit!!!!
You gotta watch this video. R680 playing COD4 with AA at 2560x1600
Ballpark price range between $400-$500
I wonder if they will make an AGP version of THIS card? lol
i dont think so :) but its just me
if its $400 - $500 then its bound to be £400 - £500 :(
a cure for erectile dysfunction?
couldnt they have made it longer?
but seriously, it's just the sort of silly card that appeals to me...cant wait to see it in action. will it be as good as /better/worse than 3870 cf?
does it rely on same drivers as cf...is it identical to cf or just cf esque
non capisco questa carta di grafico
The card without the sticker is an engineering sample. I was allowed to take pictures of the retail version too. It has a nice Ruby sticker on it :)
http://www.pcgameshardware.de/?menu=...mage_id=756185
amd allowing pictures and priced at 400 -500$? if thats anything to go by then that card might actually be good and not a fail like r600 and phenom.
