ok i did the above and formatted. before i though installing vista64 in 45 minutes i was doing good lol.
well i was putting my user name in vista in less then 15 minutes. :yepp:
all drivers and fully updated sp-1 and all in under 2 hours.
im still at stock but she is running cooler then ever 31-32c :)
Edit: 2.8ghz 1.2v 31-32c idle / 38-39c load. man if i can just get to 3ghz now. :) guess theres nothing wrong with the cpu after all.

try cpu vdda 2.6 or 2.7
and mind didnt like 2.4ghz NB freq.

You can test 1.4v for CPU/NB and see if NB can handle 2.4, but just to bench, and check temps, if you want go higher you will need better cooling.Quote:

That seems a little odd to me about the nb not clocking very well. My only chip to not do 2.4ghz nb was the 9600BE, every other one has done at least 2.4ghz. I'm not quite sure how high the nb on my 9850 goes on air, I've only done testing of that under cold and it maxed at 2.75.
My last 9850BE did it, the 9500 I'm using can't do more than 2.3.Quote:

me and another guy that chat on eggxpert chat. built 2 spiders. both asus m3a32-mvp boards. his has crucial ram. mine has hyperx. both have same tpye of video cards.
both are having the same issues. same as all of you here. it not the cpu's.
i can boot to 2.8 at 1.2 volts. as soon as you try to go past that you need mega volts to get it into windows. even at stock all settings. after a while not sure how long it is random and allways different messages on the blue screens. or it just screen frezze and reboots.
i can boot into bios at 3.4 to 3.5ghz at near stock volts. high volts and low volts idle temps show in bios at around 44c. at these speeds. you can set bios volts to 1.678 and when you get into windows it will only be at 1.5.
@ 3ghz i can get into windows with very high volts and still see rather normal temps. i can get into windows with rather low volts at 3ghz aswell but it will just lock up faster it seems.
41c idle 48c load @ 3ghz. it seems the volts and power are just not getting to the cpu's. something is seriously wrong with these boards.
it seems all the manufactures are having there own issues with 790fx/sb600 boards.
after trying all these different bios settings, testing ram and different drivers. installing with 1 ram or 4. 1 video card no sound card. it has to be the boards.
:mad: well i hope asus can fix this up. going to call and rma mine back to them. not to new egg. asus told the other builder i was talking about. that there is a new board in the works about 1.5 - 2 weeks away and he would have to wait till then to rma his. so they are well aware of the issues.
it kinda all makes since now why the B2's were having so much trouble. it wasnt the TLB thats for sure. :down:
That might also be why I couldn't get mine to do well under cold. 2.8 required around 1.4v to even get in windows and not freeze in the first few minutes. 2.75 only needed 1.225 however. It'll probably get fixed with a bios update because all my other chips were fine clocking in it, not quite as good under cold but they still did. I'm about to start priming 3ghz on mine on the crosshair, and waiting for the new one to go public cause I kind've like having the different systems and the ROG bios is my favorite of any I've used.
hmmm doing some more searching today and talking with some asus techs.
they seem not to be sure what it is. power regulation or bad chipsets. the on e guy i talked to said maybe a bios issue. who knows.
some are having luck with rma'ing there cpu. bad batch??? maybe
i just going to rma both the motherboard and the cpu to get both out of the question here. uggggggg probly take 1-3 weeks. so guess ill be back with updates at that time.
maybe my luck is just that way. might have both bad batch of a board run and a bad run of the cpu. :shrug:
It 'could' be the 790FX/SB600 yes. But in order to check that we need someone with a 790FX board, a 780a board and a 'bad clocking' Phenom and see differences between the boards.
I dont know anymore where I saw it but there's a SB750 with Overdrive 3.0 which was pre-tested and got from 3.0 to 3.2Ghz just by using a special feature on the SB750...

ran custom 2h test of OCCT 2.0.0a, came out stable at 3.0ghz (200x15) also ran prime95 for about an hour no errors.
ive only had one BSOD in my experience so far and that was at the beginning learning the ins and outs of this board.
but this is with NB at 2.0ghz and stock NB volts and HT link speed at 2.0ghz. cpu was at 1.3875 vcore.
im getting about 4400-4500 cpu score in 3dmark06
im sure it will only get better with better bios' and as we learn about all the options in this bios. i think asus bios' are the best so much potential and very straight forward and organized.
then again im only running bios 801, not even sure if i should upgrade to 1002 since its running better than expected. maybe ill wait a bios iteration.

1002 isn't really all that. Adds ecc settings and gives official support for all B3's. If I'm up to it(probably meaning as soon as I'm bored tomorrow morning) I'll revert the bios back to 801 and put the 9850 back in. Only reason against it is how long gimps testing takes, I'm about 20% done. Unless the 9850 could drastically reduce my iteration times even more it wouldn't be worth it for me.
well not sure what i have updated installed or got right in the bios but im not gona touch another setting im @ 2.94 i have an rma number for both cpu and motherboard. but seems that some how i finaly got it right on.
Edit: got it upto 3010 last night and all still stable. 1.425 volts. 41c idle 55 load. tonight i will try to lower the volts some more. at the lower sppeds with less volts it seemd i would have a 10 degree swing in temps. 14-15 degree might still be ok. but i think if i get the volts down a little more i should be able to bring that load temp down just a little more.

On another issue; in regards to all the mention of high NB speeds in this thread.....for myself, I've noticed there seems to be a law of diminishing returns beyond 2000Mhz, even at high ram speeds (up to 600Mhz).
formating again uggg at vista. maybe this one will stick installed @ 800 ram all stock everything. will run this way for several days till vista gets stuck in real good. not gona put in sp-1 till update says it needs it. so far it hasnt asked me if i want to install it.
so i think in my case it was all my fault. getting agresive right away running 1066 and installing vista that way putting in sp1 right away. then insatlling any and every update there was. lol so my nightmare continues. if this time dont work im sending everything for rma. let them either test and send back saying the part is fine or saying yep this one was bad. :mad:
Try FEAR .... DDR2-800 C5 125-130ish FPS (all low settings on video 800x600 res, high on computer)... with DDR2-1066 C5 190-195ish FPS (all low settings on video 800x600 res) .... there are a couple where 1066 really makes a huge difference. 9600BE at stock (2.3G/1.8G/1.25V).Quote:
