Testing the UD7 on phase-change. Colder temperatures are the key for a high BCLK as well as having luck to get a good CPU. My 950 could only go upto 235MHz BCLK (phase and LN2), this 960 can do 240 on phase change

I have a slight issue and maybe this has already been addressed but i couldnt find any information so i made this post..
my 3.3v and 5v rails show perfect volts.. but the +12v rail shows 2.3-2.4v only when its idle:shocked::shocked:. when i start the system stability test or OCCT then the +12v reading fluctuates between 8.8.-9.1v :confused:
This is the same with OCCT as well!! :shocked:
But my system continues to stay on and i have run occt for 25-35 mins and no crash.
Tried the everest stability test for 15-20 mins as well and no crash.
I was really worried and didnt want to run my system with the thought of killing something with the really weird voltages being reported.
Until i saw a post on the lavalays forum of a guy who has the same problem i thought i had a messed up PSU ! but the fact that my pc was still on with only 2.1v on the +12v rail told me something was very fishy. :shakes:
Strangely enough the bios and Easy Tune 6 reports 11.99-12.05v on the +12v rail. :confused:

I've use the other monitoring programs and observed the same thing which made me think my PSU was flaky so I hooked up the multimeter and tested it that way and just like the ET6 monitoring section the multimeter read perfect rails so I'm assuming either the other program are flaky or the dynamic energy saving thing is messing with their readings.

Well well, F6x bios actually does what it says on the tin, (improves mem 2:10 ratio) my corsair dominator mem OC'd slightly at 2100mhz 8.8.8.24 timings (finally) with a cpu OC of 4400 with HT on at 1.36v

I have survived a 3DMARK06 bench! When before it would not even boot up, good work Gigabyte, keep them coming! The mem issue was the only thing upsetting me about this mobo, Gig seems they are sorting it out well!¬
Had to bump up mem to 1.66v and now crysis is running well, dont dare do a Linx stress test yet though

Hello, i did f6x bios today, everithing fine, 4.2 1.25v stable, but i can't get more then 211 bclk, the pc doesn't give any image, i've already try with another multi, but always give me the same, black screen! It is possible to fix this problem?
F6x is not the last bios?! F6a last one?! A before X, i'm not understanding.

Are there any users here that switched from Foxconn Bloodrage or Evga 760 Classified to this board?
I am trying to choose between these 3 motherboards for my build.
How important is the usb 3 and sata 6gb support in your opinion? I definitely do not have any devices to make use of it now.
I know this is a Gigabyte thread but I would appreciate everyone's honest opinion.

Hard mod was needed for my Q4EG to fire up
There seems to be OCP kicking in around 5.5ghz with all cores loaded. I can drop cores and scale higher on vcore.

Yes, I went from Evga E60 to UD7, the E60 handled memory better, but UD7 is sorting itself in regards to mem with each bios. The UD7 I find slightly more stable maybe due to its better 24 phase power design, and a cooler board in regards to temps, theres not much in it though, you wont be dissapointed with eitherQuote:

Hello everyone.
I recently bought this motherboard with i7 930 and 6gb gskill ram running on f5 bios.
Haven't yet tried to Overclock anything since I like to get the system running prefectly before playing with it.
Two things have caught my attention:
1st in bios it says my multiplier is at oem 21x which would mean 2.8ghz but once I exit out of the bios and press tab on the black screen it shows 2.93ghz x22 and on cpuz in windows it shows 2.93 x22 also?
2nd some lights are on, I checked the manual and they really did a crappy job explaining and defining what the lights mean, so I figured someone in here might be able to help me out. the nb phase/ddr load only comes on when I set my ram to run at factory 1600.

*****EDIT***** I fixed teh led for ddr/phase by manually setting the voltage to 1.5. But that temp for cpu and nb is still lit.

Bloody heck! Gig are throwing those bioses out faster than a really fast thing being chased by a cheetah! Not that I'm complaining.
DiscoTech, there really wasnt much difference between the 2 mobo's, max blck and voltage are more cpu dependant I think, (no real gains in cpu OC) finding that golden cpu is more important. But the UD7's better phase power design suggests it delivers smoother constant power to the cpu, (the reason I bought it) I find it more stable under extreme OC, but is this all a placebo effect?
Is that F6 BIOS any good? I just updated to F5 and I must say I'm not impressed. POST takes a bit longer and I no longer hear any beeping at all, WTF....
old F6a and F6x worked well for me but the newer F6a dated 8 March was unstable once I put it, I got a black screen after the welcome screen with just the cursor moving after I put my old stable settings on first boot, didn't happen with any bios before. I hope the official F6 is not same as the F6a dated 8 March. I will just stick with F6x for now.

I recently bought this motherboard with i7 920 and am aiming for 4.2 stable on air (TRUE)
it is stable, however if i completely power off/ shut down I get cold boot multi restart failures- however when its running warm its fine.
what do i need to tweak to stablise this?

If you mean it seems to "boot loop" 3 or 4 times before posting, thats normal. It's just the way this board boots when overclocked.Quote:

hmm it seems very sensitive
1.12 ioh passed linx (18 passes) but once again cold boot fails.
I have never had a cold boot failure at this clock speed (4.2) at ioh = 1.16,so i suspect the failures are for different reasons (too low - cold boot fail, too high = cold boot fail for different reason)

i can hear the 3-4 ticks on successful boots.
on the failed boots (from cold) the whole rig powers off entirely!

wheni say fail it might pass one or two boots but if it fails after any number of tests I call it a fail
If it powers off, then comes back on a few moments later, and loops like this, then I thinkit's most likley to be RAM related, either the timings or the mem ratio, or perhaps related to uncore speed/voltage.

evidence: tried with ioh core values as above with ram masively underclocked and loose timings.
passes linx and prime for many hours remember. also 16 passes of memtest normal
as i understand it IOH is needed for the memory and the cpu to talk to each other
i just tested it on [auto] at blck200 and it cold booted every time (5 trials) can anyone tell me how it behaves on auto?

I have been rock solid 24/7 and gaming for hours on end (bfbc2) @ 4.5 but it seems every setting I try to get 4.6 ends up in a couple failed boots and then me needing to reformat my raid array. I think my chip just can't handle the high blk.
can someone help me to stabilize my Dynamic Vcore settings?
My stock vcore is 1.26875v and I currently use 1.27500[bios] with LLC 1 Enabled which gives me 1.248v idle/load in CPU-Z, I want to use the DVID to lower my idle vcore, so I used the guide by setting Vcore to Normal and adding the value I want in DVID so it should be my [Normal vcore] 1.26875v + 0.00625 [DVID] which will give me 1.27500v, I get correctly the load vcore I want 1.248v but my idle vcore is way down to 0.944v which make my PC to freeze in idle just on windows screen, I want to get like 1.05v in idle but I can't, if I try to add more value in the DVID, it make my load vcore more which I don't want.
All power saving is enabled. What I'm doing wrong?
I ever used ex58-extreme which BCLK never more than 228. I did every way to raise PCI-E to be greater than 103 but it wasn't.
Now, I use board X58A-UD7. I can raise it higher than 103 MHz and BCLK up to 242!! on water cooling

warm boots are perfectly fine even past 1.3v IOH and I ran linx for 12 hours- temps low 70's on air.
I am writing to gigabyte- maybe a bios revision would allow the coldboot start check to be a bitmore lenient?
can someone speculate why warmboots are fine but cold boots fail with multiple restarts? (at higher than stock ioh voltage)
it kind of demonstrates how all hardware is tuned a bit differently depending on the parts- no two overclocks will be exactly the same...

we benched on LN2 today with the UD7 today and a 980X and ran into several issues with F6A ( dated from march) Now since it's our only I7 motherboard we can't tell if it's board or purely a so so CPU we got here... (board was modded too for the Gulfie)
anyone have concerns on the x58a-ud5 and the swiftech XT backplate in regards to the soldering that the backplate goes over?
I am concerned they may contact and short out on the backplate.

This is running really cool. It Idles at low 30s, which is about 10'C cooler than my W3520 @4GHz. I haven't pushed and tested the load-temp yet, but it seams to be about 15'C cooler. Using the same Noctua NHD14, push/pull. This a cool CPU. :) But I'm not pushing it yet, and can tell more later.
Got my 980 X today. Bios F6 final is not good for me. Beta bios F6x runs very well though
I haven't tried F6x, but how is it bad with 980x?
I've only tried F6 with this CPU, but my Uncore is stuck at x20, no matter what i set in BIOS it ends up like x20 in windows. I don't know if it is a BIOS-bug for Xeon DP CPUs or something else, yet. Maybe i should try F6x.
In my case I need more VCore with F6 and after every BSOD I have to clear CMOS to boot again. Also have some stability issues with F6
There is some problem with Logitech G19 and boot(the error only occur in conjunction with a high resolution USB mouse),GBT was able to reproduce error and revised BIOS will appear soon.

I did not experience any OCP issues, but with a quad I wasn't expecting to. I was planning to pick up a 980X this weekend in Tokyo, but shippments for the Japanese market have been delayed. We're not sure when they'll ba available yet, maybe not until April :(

Cores seams to be easy to control and stabilize with low-volts, but the challenge is to stabilizing the Uncore for high BCLK>200 without too much VVT for 24/7 use. Because the Uncore is locked on x20 on this CPU (at least it seams so for now). So higher multi with x23 would be a great help for getting these chips in high frequency, actually.
Interesting. Hopefully SR-2 will enable x23. Man... this is good motivation to work harder and make more $ lol.
