Glad you like it, thats the last bios I worked on with gigabyte.

I stopped when they started adding the unlock features as I felt that it would compromise things for users using high end parts that required no unlocking.

It tends to get a tad tricky on this board after 1800.

1880 will be your limit with this bios.

A shame they took it off the site.

BalB0wa, this bios does not unlock cpu's, it's best used by users who use the chip with the normally designated amount of cores.

You've some tips for memory clocking ? ofc, I'm glad to see "900MHz" for memory but I want to max it out. More voltage doesn't help, just like higher timings.

The multiplier option in ram settings are drive strengths. It is ram dependant. Weak is lower divider, strong is higher.

Quick ref point.

D9 GTR/GTS strong drives
D9 jnl/jnm/kpt medium drives
Elpida likes weaker

Try going full manual and play in memtest, that should help you max out ram.

Your absolutely right, more voltage will not help.

Also my cooling is a limiting factor on the cpu, using a corsair H50 , still think its better than air though

I put the bios file on a usb stick, reboot and enter bios, and from there you load the flashing app (cant remember what key it was, but should be listed at the top border)

F8 to enter flash utility.

Thanks guys, worked great, now let the fun begin. What is the main difference between 790 ud4p and ud5p ? overclocking wise. I had the MSI GD-70 and had nothing but problems with lockups, so i went with this board. Also if money was not a problem, what is the best memory i can get for this board, or AMD setup ? thanks for your help.

If you want the best of the best, get some Corsair Dominator GT sticks with Elpida Hyper chips, like the ones Brian and I am using. He is running two sticks of a triple channel 1866C7 kit, I have a dual channel kit of 2000C8.

d thing that i noticed > if ddr1333 divider is used, cpu-z showed wrong dc mode: i put ganged in bios but d software shows unganged. no such problem if i use ddr1066 divider. any idea why? :shrug:

neo mike, you have my 3100MHz (not prime stable but 32M) up. I think it IS worth to upgrade on UD5P. After buying the Corsair GT memory don't be disappointed because not hitting over 1800MHz on AMD setup ;)

Thanks Bullet, i know the memory limits on AMD :shakes:, but 1800 cas 6 will suite me fine until AMD addresses the memory controller on there next chip. I was thinking of getting the C3 965, my 955 is doing pretty well on my ud4p 3.7 ghz close to stock volts :up: Just cant seem to get my NB mgz up to 2700-2800 just wont boot, of course my voltage options are limited on ud4p, thats probally where the ud5p would help me out.

Ok somebody tell me why cpuz is not showing the correct NB frequency ? i finally hit 3.1 ghz its show 2.4 ? is there a bug in cpuz on AMD ?

I can hit almost 1500 CL5 on cpu with Freezer 64 Pro where I hit the cooling limit... Didn't test it with water cooling...

That is way too big voltage, lower it down man... 1.550v+ cpu-nb voltage is for ln2 cooling to achieve 4000+ mhz nb frequency, you can achieve your nb frequency with +0.175 (1.350v), maximum +0,225 (1.400v)...

This is my nb 3000mhz testing, 1.300v with water cooling, ram is not optimized, it can be tighter, around 1700 CL6, unlocked 550 in general have weaker IMC than 955/965 but there is no efficiency ih higher nb anyway...

3GHz for NB on water cooling it's nothing weird and it's not big success imho.

So you think running nb 3000 1.30v with two times cheaper 550 X4 is nothing but running nb 3100 1.57v with 955 is kick ass result? :) Give your 955 1.65v cpu-nb vid for 10mhz more nb freq :up:

Doh, you still don't get it. I never said that this is kick ass result with that voltage. I didn't say that I'm using those voltages for 3D benching. That was just for 32M and I was surprised when I saw 3100MHz on air with ambient temperature for 32M and 3150MHz for 1M. I can try lower it and tweak it more, that's not the problem but I'm time limited every day ;)

If you think on the 1.36v that I've said, I didn't say anything wrong. The NB voltage is 1.36v but NB-CPU was +0.400V and that wasn't question there. If you have some problems with understandin my posts, you have my msn and speak there. I'm off with OT ;)

Well im really liking this UD4P still deciding if i want to upgrade to UD5P, so far this is a pretty decent overclocking board, but have to see when i get my GT 1866 cas 7. Cpuz is showing 4.0 ghz, but in bios is showing 3.7 but 250x16x is 4.0 so maybe the bios is wacked out on its readings ??????

I thought that to. I did run sisandra memory test for bandwidth and 1632 cas 7 has quite a bit more bandwidth than ddr 3 1500 cas 6, but its very close, thanks for your reply.

How far should you push NB, and NB VID voltages and still remain fairly safe? I've got nothing in the red, but most of them are a tick or two down from the RED ONES.

Chew, right now I am at 3.9 OCCT stable under Windows 7 64bit with 1.488vcore
I am using the F3K Bios. Some people think the F3K is the same as F3L but with the added unlocking feature.
Since now I have a 955 not the 720, do think the F3L is going to squeeze that extra 100Mhz to get me 4Ghz under W7 or does that seem very unlikely?
I know there is not going to be a real difference between 3.9 and 4 but this is all about achieving a goal with air cooling under a 64 bit OS :-)

I prefer F3L. I'm not saying the unlock feature will cause you issues however I use the bios for the same reason I would use a board with less onboard stuff, less things can act up.

Less code needed compiling = less issues. Keep it simple.

The only real reason you should update is to fix a bug.
If your bios works leave it alone.

90% of new bios releases do not actually do anything for overlockability, if anything they adress bugs and sometimes limit overclockability.

The latest is not always the greatest, at least not for everyone.

Take the GD70 for instance. Latest bios's, now they have artificial ram clocks and NB clocking walls ;)

Ok thanks Chew, i didnt know that about bios, i thought the more up to date, the better overclockability, i may try F3L, i dont even know what unlocking the cores does ?, been in core2 duo land for years, havent touched a AMD since the 939 FX days. So far this ud5p and the ud4p i had, i cant get any higher on my memory clock with this ud5p, i will keep trying.

any chance of hosting f3l for the ud5p please chew?

I was using F5 for a while and to be honest my Dominator GT clocked better with it, at least I couldn't get them to run as fast as before in the limited amount of time I spent with F3L.

Hey Chew you shouldnt have given me that link for a stable 3.8 overclock, it worked like a dream, but it took all the fun out of it:rofl:, now i have to go for 4 +ghz, :eek:, no im just playing around, it helped me understand the process of overclocking AMDS, thanks.

I noticed you push the NB a lot harder than the CPU Voltage.
In my case that I am leaving the RAM at 200 and just doing the OC with the NB at 2600 and the raising the CPU multi. Do you think that is still the best way to do it?
Right now for 3900 I use .175 for NB and .150 for CPU.

I try to match the ratio that cpu is at stock.....an optimum would be 4000 cpu 3000Nb but not possible sadly so 3600 cpu 2600 NB and so on.

If that was my 955 it maxxed out at 3800 NB on ln2, while other chips I have have done 4500 NB.........voltage is always and always will be individual to a chip.

small fft 8k 10K = cores.

large fft 1024k 384k etc etc = NB/IMC/memory

Im using 1.28 nb vid. Nice bus speed there 300. I ran a little test of ram at 1600 cas 7 and ram at 1500 cas 6, and its basically idenical on everest between the 2.

vdimm used for 1500 cas 6? i found that having tighter timing will tax d mileage more than having high freq w/ looser timing. there are too many options (especially d strength thingy) for ram & i have no idea how to tweak them. :help:

im pumping 1.95 in my ram, its rated for 1.9, so not much over, it will go 1550 cas 6 thats max. Yeah im seeing it likes lower cas, so i guess with my new sticks im trying for 1700 + cas 6 :clap: we will see, i got some nice elpida hypers on the way.

F8c seems to have messed up my sleep sates, system takes 5 mins to resume windows now. Might be a fluke, but not sure. Been 3 times in a row.

What FSB are you talking about? You mean HTT? :D

Leave SetFSB, it's not AMD tool. Get AOD and please, first boot at some higher HTT option and than tell that the board won't go over 205MHz what's impossible :D

Yeah I ment bus.
Tried now F7, F8C and F3L and found strange anomaly. When NB is 24xx then bus goes over 220MHz no problem, but when NB is 26xx or higher, then also hard to pass 205MHz.
Also found that F3L didn't have CPU NB VID Control option and without it couldn't go over 24xx NB :confused:

Strange... F3L have all BIOS settings as other ones but without unlocking feature.

Look at this picture just ignore SB/HT, NB/PCIe and NB voltage. There was no need to set them +0.1v and NB at 1.36 because it's working with 1.2V too. First I used +0.4V for CPU-NB but later I tested it and realize that there's no need for such a high voltage and +0.25 was enough for same frequency.

I think you're doing something wrong there.
If you use GTR's use the higher memory divider (1600) with elpida use lower (1333 or lower) for better memory results.

Bullet92, damn, You are right. I somehow missed that setting. And as I said before I couldn't pass 25xxNB without adding voltage to CPU NB VID Control.

Did You run NB@3080MHz with air? That might be CPU related...

Yap, all air and ofc it is CPU related and yeah, for passing 2.5GHz on NB rising CPU-NB VID is needed.

All is on air, cooled with TRUE, ambient temperature was ~20°C. You have those results on this thread (back to previous page).

And it 26,8*C ambient (measured with calibrated thermometer 50cm from PC case) :D
Perf is a lot better also (on 24/7 OS) :)

Ok question guys, anybody have cpu cooler issues with fan hitting ram ? this sucks, i have noctua U12P i want the fan on the ram side to blow air out the back of case, but it hits top of ram :shakes::shakes::shakes: anybody else having issues with cpu cooler ? now im going to have to take this thing back, and i really like it, darn this thing is whisper quite, and cools pretty good. Can i run my ram in the white slots ? what is the difference between blue slots or white, this sucks.

I haven't had any issues with heatsinks hitting my ram as long as it didn't have high heat spreaders. On the blue vs white, I found the white are best for tweaking.

Ok well i have high heat spreaders on my ram and its hitting the fan, i will try switching the ram to white slots, and it clocks same, then problem is solved, thanks. :up:
