Yes it is. My CPU's temps are around 53-55C at full load. 3.2GHz@1.35V

Hey this is really hot, how do you read the MB temps?
I'm using asus probe2 and i' having around 31°C at full load with intelburntest using maximum ram.
What voltages have you set?
I'm using
HT voltage: 1.34
NB (core) voltage: 1.3
I've come a little further with my AMD system, i'm aiming for a 100% stable 24/7 overclock, because this system ist mainly my storage server with software raid and encryption.
here is a result with a uncommon CPU for this board ;)

junkY
i use aod to read out the mb temps. but i also have a thermal sensor of my zalman zm-mfc2 attached to the fins of the heatpipe cooler. that sensor reads 65°C under full load. thatīs only the cooler fins, so maybe the whole mosfet and nb are getting a little hotter.
the voltages for ht and nbcore are at stock. cpu is at 1.4v+2%acc at 3.2ghz.
i can easily put my fingers on every peace of copper (mosfet,nb,sb) on that mainboard, and it's rather cool.
there are 2 possibilities:
1. your phenom is stressing the mosfets/northbridge much more than my x2 5050e or
2. your board is not ok
have you got annother cpu which you test the board with?
and btw, whar are your ambient temps and which case are you using?
mine are about 20-22°C and the board is in a sharkoon rebel 12 with a 25cm fan blowing at it.
Hi guys, I've decided this is the board for me, but can someone please explain the 1066 memory thing?
I've read that the Phenom can only handle 1066 memory in 1 stick per channel? So does that mean we have to run our mem in single channel mode? Or drop to 800 in dual channel?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, or has already been discussed, I'm just a little confused?
What benefit does dual channel give? And would 1066 single channel be better than 800 dual channel?
You sure the heatsink is seated right? Maybe the thermal compound not applied correctly? When I got the new board that I tried it without taking off the AM2 retention bracket I tried it on air and with my 9950 @ 3.2 GHz @ 1.4v I saw about 55šc full load with the factory Heatsink.
Couple of questions
1- What is more or less your ambient temp?
2- what are you using to monitor temps?
3- What were your load temps before the TRUE?
hi there Darxide, welcome to XS.
you can run 1066 in dual channel. You just have to make sure to go into the BIOS and set your memory frequency to 1066. Yes 1066 would be better than 800. The 1066 RAM is already manufactured to run at 1066, so you can set it at 800 in the BIOS and then you can raise your FSB and not have to worry if you are pushing the RAM while raising the FSB, or you can leave it at 1066 and try to clock the memory even higher.
phenom can run two 1066mhz it's 2gbs sticks put more stress on the IMC. 9 I haven't seen many running 8gbs yet.
in ganged mode it runs in one 128bit dual channel and unganged it runs two 64 bit channels.
there difference is in mutli-thread programs and single threaded programs
Yeah, but it's still much better than you. As we see you are not stable even in the winter at all. :D
I'm sure and I use AC MX-2 tc. The ambeint is around 25C. I use Everest for monitorting. It can show the core temp.
I can't remember my load temps before the TRUE because that was more than a year ago with different board and CPU.
Overall I'm pleased with the temps because I have a relative slow fan on the heatsink.
you can run dual 128 in both ganged and unganged On this bored. I couldn't on the K9A2 Plat board before I sold it tho. But all my other boards allow me to. As long as the DIMMs are in the right slots.
(Ganged)

(UnGanged)

well.. i hope that my phenom is stressing the mosfets a little more than ur x2.. at least itīs a 140watter.
i donīt have another cpu to test with. why should i test? itīs working properly if i donīt stress it too much, 3.4ghz@1.6v is really stressing it.
ambient temp is around 23-25°C and my case is a chieftech mesh big tower with a 3x120mm radiator in the top and one 120mm fan at the back under the powersupply. if i had a 250mm fan blowing at my board i bet it wouldnīt get hot. but iīm on water so i donīt have a really good airflow over the board.
what board and ram evilsurge?
c'mon guys,
I want to see some phenom II teasers with the M3A79-T :p:
I just ordered this Mobo for a Phenom II. :D
Hope it handles good, and I hope they don't bring out new AM2+ boards :(
Hey, thanks.
I was gonna get a Phenom 9950, but I've now decided to wait for the Phenom II, so I've bought a cheap Athlon X2 4000+ from eBay, just to get up and running. That way I can make sure the BIOS is flashed to the latest version for Phenom II.
Still havn't bought any RAM though......suggestions?
I was thinking about this stuf
http://www.geil.com.tw/products/showSpec/id/118
Mushkin Black Ascent 1006 is superb ram.
http://www.kmelektronik.de/
Not expensive either.
Has any of you guys had an issue with the board not posting and crash recovery not working?
Everytime I raise HT above 2000 the board will not post and i have to clear cmos.
IT's pissing me off that i cant overclock the HT without it not posting and i have to take out my 3870X2 everytime to reset cmos.
Had my HT up in "sync" with my NB for a while (around 2400-2450 MHz) with no problem other than heat. Lowered down to 2000 to shave off a couple of degrees, while keeping NB at 2400+. It should work! (I imagine(?) that 2400/2400 "felt" smoother than 2000/2400, but I am probably wrong...)
What bios do you use? Did you load default setting after flashing (if you have flashed)? Do you overclock in bios or via AOD?
BIOS 0701 should be out shortly....
I just recently got myself a Phenom 9950 and Asus M3A79-T Deluxe. I'm running the chip up to 3.3Ghz at 1.4Vcore using only a multi increase. I am however struggling to get 4 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracers DDR1066 stable, even at 800mhz, unganged and ganged 2T it will be stable for a couple of minutes, and sometimes even for almost an hour AOD stbility test.
My setup is:
Phenom 9950
Asus M3A79-T Deluxe
4 x 1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracers
EVGA GTX280 (640 core, 1391 shader, 1250 memory)
Antec Trio 650Watt PSU.
Any ideas how I could get 4 x 1GB ram stable on this setup?
With 2 sticks and same settings I can run stability tests for an hour without any problems...
I used to run 4x 1GB D9GMH RAM (Crucial Ballistix & Team Xtreme Mixed) on the board , it "NEVER" boot well when I set DDR2-1066 mode @ BIOS
But the four stick setup works fine with @ DDR2-800 2.0V ~ 2.1V
My Ballistix DDR2-800 CL4 (SPD listed 2.2V) died last month , RMAed and the new pair (with 2.0V listed at SPD ) doesn't like anything higher than DDR2-1100:shrug:
Sorry to ask , I would like to push my NB speed higher ( currently only works 2GHz )
Should I push the NB Voltage to 1.3V or I should change other options in BIOS to get it work
Thank you
No, I've tried ganged and unganged at 800Mhz 4 4 4 12 T2 timings and 2.2Vdimm...
602 bios rev.
Anyone know any good passive Mosfet coolers for this mobo?
I've been looking around and neither the Enzotech or Thermalright ones fit :(
I also don't want to water cool them as it means setting up a second loop :/
hi there, this thermalright says it fits on the 790FX, check it out:
I had my previous motherboard fully watercooled with Koolance parts. When I had to order the heat transfer plate for the Vreg/mosfet water block, I ordered the one that was 107.5mm long. I however had to grind it down on one end slightly to have it fit, but the smaller one before that is 76mm which was too small so I had no choice. However I notice that the cooler I linked you too the longest one is 70mm, so I dont know what to tell you, it says its compatible with the ASUS 790FX
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catal...ducts_id=21654
If you follow the link from performance pcs to the thermalright one.
It only has two 790FX boards listed and thats only for the Northbridge, it shows the mosfets are non compatible.
I'm just worried I just spend 180 euro just to have Asus release a new motherboard the same time as PH2 launches :(
i REALLY hope that they don't release a new board but keep working on the bios for this board. i think physically this board is good enough for the upcoming phenom 2s.
Man I had a busy past 2 days. Any who, I was playing with my news toys and look at this screen shot...anyone guess......:p:
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/9950/AOD.JPG
Nice RAM you got there
DDR2-1356 :clap::clap::up:
nice:up: what cooling did you use?
Nice Charged!! 3Ghz NB speed...
Is that stable and can you post some benchies?
Gratz on being the first regular user man.
That looks amazing!
See if you can run some benchies and don't forget Prime and Orthos.
I want to see if that baby is stable for very long period :D
You're probably water cooling also?
EDIT:
My work is just special I guess :p:,It isn't mine persay ...Our president got it and won't tell me how. I am just testing it.
Well it was..OCZ Reeper HPC 1066 ram.. I think I just killed it....
I am using water, in my syg and in my avatar
Not stable apperantly, I went to open CPU-z to get a verify and the system shutdown. LOL , now it won't boot. or POST...so much for fun....I am testing hardware to find what all died...I think it was my ram... I thought I actually had it set to a 1:2 divider, but when I open AOD once I got into windows.. I was like WOW wicked....I have to go out of town for about 2 weeks for a work "crapp" thing...I have to leave shortly and hope to get this back up. I am at our office right now.
AOD had 2.4v..and the ram is actually working in another PC and gouing through MEMTEST 86...I put in my 9950 and the system and it will not boot. I tried another PSU etc...I don't have another AMD system here at the office to verify the chip is still ok.. I think it is..but can't confirm since the board obviuosly is not. I should have brought in my Gigabyte system in too...I was just to excited to get over here to see it for myself...I have some pics..and was going to load them up, but the presidnet and the owner said i am not allowed...I was like.WHAT?..He said I have to wait till Jan..HAHHAHA..he is nuts. I will try to get them online when I get away from them guys. well I have 15mins then we have to go.
I hope it's not the mobo, would suck if all the M3A79-T Deluxe mobos went boom from a 4GHz over clock :(
@ charged3800z24
Congrats dude, how do you like it so far?
Well the NB and Mosfets on these mobos can run pretty hot, maybe the stock cooler just wasn't up to it for the OC?
I just hope more places start making aftermarket coolers for AMD mobos now.
After around 10 minutes SP2004 Orthos the system crashed (BSOD)
It seems the CPU need more voltage (1.3V surely won't do)
Since my rig runs 3GHz rock stable 24/7
I am trying to push the NB speed to 2.4GHz and hopefully reduce the latency :D
Currently running SP2004 Orthos Stress testing again;)

I know your RAM is DDR2 800 but would it run stable if you set it at 1066??
For example, before I got my 1066 tracers, I had some cheap super talent DDR2 800 RAM. I can set it in the BIOS to 1066 @ 2.1v, timings on auto 5-7-7-24. I used to then set the NB multi to x12 (2400 MHz) and leave the FSB at 200MHZ. Just upped the CPU clock with the multi. I used to get much better performance like that, then trying to overclock with the FSB, the only thing I didnt clock was the Hyper Transport, it stayed at 2000 MHz which helped with stability anyways, HT link to me didn't make much of a difference having it higher or not.
Not only did I get better performance, it was alot easier to clock as nothing overclocked only the CPU, and was easier to tell where the instability came from when any. :)
I was running 6GB *( 2GB x2 , 1GB x2 ) and my board REFUSE to boot everytime I set DDR2-1066 in BIOS , that's why I have to overclock the FSB.
My CPU seems having a hard time to get it stable at 3.2GHz , maybe it's too hot or it needs more voltage than 1.4V , maybe I will try push it again later on as I have to work all day til the end of the year
Thanks for the hint BTW :welcome:
It seems that this mobo likes the stock timimgs better than when you tweak them. Set everything to stock and just set the multiplier X19 and broke 5000 cpu marks in 3DMark06.
http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=9403646
Seems to be the new high Phenom/Vista score
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=467970
We've all seen this, but nobody noticed the M4A79 Deluxe.
Asus has implied before that its AM3 products were all M4A, but aren't AM3 mobos supposed to use DDR3 only? (See Geil DDR2)
This is very hard to explain, but either way in the end we should be seeing more AM3 boards from major partners soon, regardless. :)
I am on my HP Centrino work laptop LOL...when I get back I will try to get the chip in the gigabyte board. My asus is not working and before I left i took a look at the fets. Nothing looks bad or smells funny. I was thinking AOD was messed up, cause I had the ram set at 1:2 divider. It should not have been that high...but maybe it was right and the board had a fit. I just hope the voltage was set right...may be I messed up something. I feel like a big noob.
Oh, if anyone wants my 9950 125w, it is for sell...I get to keep this new chip. My wife said the 7750 BE came in so I will play with it when I get back too.
At least this laptop has a HD2600 in it.. I can still game a little bit. I miss my PCs at home tho..lol
Nice charged!!!
I believe a nb close to 3ghz will have killing performance....:D
I really want this board but cant see spending 200 bux 2-4 months before the am3 stuff gets here...
anyone ran this and a msi plat on a pII?
I swear I will beat someone with a TFC rad if an M4A79 Deluxe comes out within a month....
maybe not a month but you better get ready to start swinging :D
I got a nice DI tube that might get your point across better and would require less swings :horse::D I'm on the fence about getting this board, one thing I have not noticed is any high clocks under DI with phenom 2, other thing is onboard would be nice ( would like to knock out a record with the onboard under DI ), last but not least I see the manufacuturer's starting to re release models as we get closer to launch.
I finally decide to upgrade from my K8V and order a M3A79...now an M4 :(
I haven't even gotten my new mobo to play with yet...stupid post...
Of all the reports coming in of high OC's on DI i have yet to see one on this board.......just because the PWM is large doesn't mean its good. Iplementation is far more important.
Curiosity makes me wonder if intel is so efficient and has a lower TDP why does it need 16+ 2 phase pwm....
after reading about most with 5 pwm going pop I and gotvoltage putting 1.650 volts threw this board and his chip. it's definitely not a bad implementation
looks like most 775 boards have 12 I though was weird, but I guess they putt efforts on where all the performance is at (more to them being supply demand bais.)
Not to derail but I'd really like to see what it does under alot higher than 1.650, As much as people hate the giga GX board it looks like at least one of its saving graces is/was its 5 phase handling the abuse AMD gave them at those events at 1.88-1.9v while looping crysis.
And even an average board and this is bottom of the barrel for an x38 which is a dated chipset has at least an 8 phase. http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...35&modelmenu=1
Cheapest I7 has at least an 8+2............. http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=3&l2=179
I'd be really curious to see wattage consumption comparisons on platforms with equal PWM stages.......usually larger if implemented correctly are more efficient.

Thank you Chicken Patty
3.2GHz Bootable , Boot to OS ok
So far so good
I don't want to go too high on voltage as it's Air cooling setup only ( Ultra 120 eXtreme )
Just a little update
3.2GHz @ 1.45V can't pass SP2004 Orthos Stress Test ( 15 min Max and the overheat protection kick in?)
CoreTemp show 67C before the crash / shut down
In the end , suicide run completed for now
I will wait for Phenom II 940 and try hitting 3.4GHz again later.
And finally I can run DDR2-1066 with 2 pairs of RAM (CPU-Z detected 3 GB RAM @ DDR2-1066 Unganged "Dual Channel" mode , weird )
It was partly the wrong BIOS setting , I should keep the RAM setting and gang/unganged setting to "AUTO"
Good birthday present for me , 6GB @ DDR2-1066:D
are you on 32 bit os?
Do you have the same thing as I do when I OC too much..? Mine just reboots under load when I OC this baby just by a little more than 3.1GHz(which is 110% stable 1.4Vcore) .. I did try smth like 1.55vcore and 3.2GHz and still it reboots :( Bad CPU i think.. or maybe Ill try to clock it in vista too to see if it helps.
edit. What the hell? Now im in vista with 3.25GHz@1.45Vcore and running stabilitytest now at 10mins and no problems at all? "5"#%"#Ī€! windows XP oh crap all that testing .. It has to have something to do with my old old windows xp installation which I had my previous system(asus a8nslipremium&165opteron) .. damn. this really opens some new windows to my cpu! ;) hope. I mean I havent never got this thing to run stabilitytest even at 3.125GHz .. now 3.25 and no problems.
edit2. now 3.25GHz@1.4Vcore and 52C at load.. still it seems to be stable.
1.45V 3.2GHz should be ok ( SP2004 Orthos did run for 15 min )
Well , the temp is too high, CoreTemp shows 67C
and the system auto- shut down / BSOD after reach 68C
For the mean time I will stick with 3GHz as my rig cooling system isn't good enough to keep it < 70C
you are better off dude, but let me ask you, can you disabled that auto shut down, or maybe not disable it, but set it higher? Your rig is never going to get as high as it does with Prime, thats why I dont run Prime. I run 3dmark 06 looped, or a 1024M wprime benchmark over and over. but prime is just nuts, i'm not trying to mess anything up!
I was able to stop by the office today and copy a screen shot off my hard drive. I was gonna get one of the OC in CPU-z but the system took a poop. I should have my board back this week hopefully. I did not get any benchmarks ran, as I only had the system up for like 2 mins:(
http://3800z24.info/Phenom/Deneb/deneb.JPG
what bios you guys using on this mobo, I got mine 2 days ago.....pretty good mobo Im pretty much getting the same oc's I got with my DKA790GX though If theres anyone who knows any settings I should be aware of on this mobo that effects ocing let me know as I see many added options in the bios I didnt have with the MSI.
I got a gift from work, just picked it up today....it is a TX750W Corsair. 30amp on the 3.3, 28amp on the 5v, and 60amp on the 12v Single rail. it is a nice 750w PSU.
I think my board was just a fluke...And I think AOD is messed up. I had ram divider 1:2 and it was 400mhz in bios. AOD said something completely dumb. Also the NB was like off too. I just put the chip in the gigabyte. If I get some time, I am going to do some 3ghz comparisons to my 9950.
Well, there are a few things. Auto express is on, you can turn CPU Tweak off. and you have to type voltage in manually. There are few other things.. If I get a sec(what is free time? anyone know?_) LOL.. I will get you my info I was using on my 9950. Or someone else will most likely post before me.
Grats on the new power supply charged3800z24 i know you been in need of a new one for some time now.
Yea its about time you picked one up ,,lol
I doubt your psu was the cause charged. I was running the sig equipment off a 500w seasonic for a year. total 12v amps is 33.........
Could have been, I had a great PSU ran grand for over a year, then boom! Blew my mobo CPU and GPU. Oh and itself :(
