Hi , can anyone tell me what is a safe level for the QPI/Vtt voltage and also CPU PLL aswell on i7, thanks in advance
Just installed and havent got my water block yet so on stock cooler , its all a bit strange this bios compared to my last platform

Actually I solved 1/2 the problem. I don't know why but clearing my CMOS again worked. I don't know why it didn't work in the first place but I have that problem sovled :) Just in case I need to clear it again is there anyway to save my current bios settings?
Also I'm still having a long pause after my computer posts and before windows starts to load. I checked the boot log but in my inexperience was not able to solve anything; maybe someone here can help me out.

see below for intel max v's.
not sure what to believe though really.
many high end memory providers set their xmp to qpi of 1.55v when running at 2000.
Another rulle of thumb some folks use - regarding mem voltage is to keep mem v no higher than 0.5v than qpi.
So if you set qpi to 1.35, you should be able to set mem v as high as 1.85v
I know this is not much help but it gives you an idea how messed up max v's are for i7 right now.
The main thing to keep an eye on is your temps, particularly at high v's with HT on - especially if on air (vs water, tec or phase).
update: Put in an old NIC 3c905B but of course can't find drivers it's so old BUT my router does light up that I have a connection so
could both my onboard nics be f'ed up?
OK this is a strange one, not sure but I think it's something with the UD5. Was fine this morning all of a sudden I have no internet and I see this:
Active Public Networks, it just keeps flashing between "none" and "Identifying"
Has been doing it for a over an hour, I have a 4 port router so tried changing ports nothing. Other 3 comps have internet no problem. Hell the lights on the router don't even show it's plugged in that's why it's the board.
Tried both ports on the board still nothing, I didn't install anything or even reboot, just started happening. I have auto updates off so it's not that.
HELP!
Anyone OCing this board to 160 bck with 12gb of ram, with 6gb its ok, wit 12gb it has hard time passing 140, anyone have any settings, this is for a friends system, thanks.
Thanks for that tip.
Well this has gotten stranger by the minute, after i had the realtek pci NIC in I had a crash when it rebooted windows would no longer install the driver for that card (that it had originally installed!) so I plugged it back into the motherboard nic and now it works!
I have no idea why
I am using Win7 x64 and being a beta could be the reason.
First off, I am running the F6a BIOS.
I am having a heck of a time trying to get an i920 to POST at 3.2GHz with an EX58-UD5 and 12 GB of Corsair XMS3 CM3X2G1600C9. I downloaded a PDF from Gigabyte on how to overclock to 4GHz, so I am mildly familiar with he more commonly used variables in the BIOS.
I tried 20/160 to get an easy 3.2GHz
I have tried the profile in the RAM to get it to DDR3 1600 and I have tried it manually.
I have tried upping the CPU voltage to as high as 1.4 volts.
I have tried upping the QPI voltage to as high as 1.4 volts.
I have tried turning off Turbo mode as well as all the power saving modes that I could find.
I even tried the RAM at DDR3 1333.
My goal is to have the RAM at DDR3 1600 and the CPU at 3.2GHz for ffdshow and encoding. I got a Q6600 to 3GHz easy on 8 gigs of RAM, so I am wondering why I am having a hard time with what I believe to be a relatively easy task.
Any BIOS configurations and/or tips would be greatly appreciated.
that seems odd, from what i know lots of folks have had trouble ocing 12gb. have u tried just 3 sticks
Ive got the same 12Gb of memory as you.
This works or me on F5g, F6b, F5 final:
Select xmp profile as this automatically sets the correct memory and qpi/Vtt volts (1.65/1.35). The memory will actually run at lower volts than this if required. Memory will run at 1688 10/10/10/26 automatically.
Set the memory multiplier to x8.
Set Bclk to 211 and multiplier to x19 gives 4 Ghz.
Set processor volts to 1.41875 in bios. They will be much lower in CPUZ. Only with a decent cooler.
Set Uncore manually to give 2x memory speed = 2x1688=x16.
Set LLC on.
Set IOH to 1.3v
Dont forget to set the PCIe to fixed value at 100.
Turn off HT.
Performance Enhance: Standard.
Turn off processor turbo mode.
I've typed the above from memory so may have missed something but if you have problems I will check my settings. This on the Extreme MB.
Memory bandwith 29G/bs according to Sisoft. Prime95 2 hours max 75C ish.
Much lower for games (60C).
NOTE:ABOVE CORRECTED IN EDIT.
That did the trick for me. Must be either the tad bit higher voltage for CPU or ICH (which I did not change before).
I am idling at around 45-49C and ffdshow load gets into the mid 60s. I do not care for benchmarking, so I doubt I will get much above that. I did not enable LLC. In addition, I did not go so high with the Bclk, my memory is set at DDR3 1520MHz (1.65v which I believe is stock for this set), and I still have HT enabled. I am thinking about easing off the CPU and ICH voltages a bit because of this.
I have a question though. Since I will not be getting another system for at least a year or two, are the following voltage and temperature readings fine for long term use?:
*All measurements using latest Everest Ultimate*
Voltage:
CPU - 1.38v (is this the REAL voltage and the BIOS one is erroneous due to vdroop?)
Temperature:
"North Bridge" - 55-60C
EDIT: While I am at it... when I play a video through ffdshow, the CPU speed changes between 2.2GHz and 3.6GHz (the speed I settled on) throughout the movie. I assume that is the i7 speed step throttling working. Is that actually good for the MB/CPU power circuitry to have that happen repeatedly or would deactivating all powersaving features be better for long-term reliability?
possibly the cpu's IMC is just a tad fussier than most... so yeah, maybe adding vcore is the trick there... IOH shouldn't matter too much, but if it works I guess it works. :)
I corrected some typos in my original post. Should read IOH not ICH and 1.3 volts not 1.2v but it seems to work for you.
Your idle temperature seems much higher than mine (39C). I use CPUZ and Realtemp 3.0. HT raises the temperature a fair bit but I don't use it.
Stock for that memory is 1600, 1.65V, Uncore 1.35v whuch should all be auto loaded when XMP is selected in bios.
New BIOS (released 27.02.09):
GA-EX58-Extreme - F6c
GA-EX58-UD5 - F6b
GA-EX58-UD4P - F7c
GA-EX58-UD3R - F5c
GA-EX58-DS4 - F6b
Fix cold start (QPI / Vtt bigger than 1.280V)
I have just flashed to the official F5 bios and it has fixed my dual boot issue when I run my ram at 1600MHz and it also requires less voltage for my cpu oc. I am now happy with my pc.
Does anyone use the the bottom pci-e slot for SLI with a dual slot gpu like the 260GTX? I tried doing it but was afraid I might crush the pins that goes into the reset/power/HD/LED port. It seems my 260GTX is just too long to make it fit down there.
Thank you stasio for keeping us informed
