some graphics component on p5wdh failed
Hello.
Last week I started to have problems with graphics in games.
I started to see bugs on screen so I quit game.
I thought it could be high temperature so I clean my pc and tried again but problem still appeared.
Finally after two hours, I run game again, pc crashed and my graphics card not working anymore.
I had E6300 oc to 2.6
3g ddr2 @ 750mhz
gf 9800gtx+ oc by bfg
It was working fine for over year in that configuration.
I thought it was graphics card problem, but I put new one from friend and I had bugs on screen. I format hard drive and installed new system (vista)
but it didn't help. same n xp sp3
I tried components and I think it is motherboard issue, is it need to be replaced or anyone met with it so far?
I just add that I have newest drivers for chipser, graphics and bios.
Screen bugs a lot in wow, but not in counter-strike 1.6.
I put all details in drivers control panel to minimum, ram speed at 667, 1.8ghz c2d. Same in game, it helped a bit, but pc going to crash in the mid of game, even if no bugs or screen are shown.
Please help.
Don't remove EZ_RAID jumpers!
Sorry to resurrect an old debate but I wanted to share some information with long-time users of the P5W DH, in this thread I've taken real good advices and info... :)
Last post about this is dated 2008, but this is still giving me headaches!
I've experimented using EZ_RAID1 port with RAID_SET jumpers taken apart (and EZ-Backup mode change enabled on next reboot). ICH7R is set to [Raid].
While the EZ_RAID1 port might be recognized as the missing ICH7R port, and the connected hard drive correctly identified and working, I came across an issue: reading and writing may take ages, as if the drive was not responding. A simple 10MB file copy may even take 5 minutes! Even Windows won't shut down.
I've used this "no jumper" setup before to temporarily attach a drive before and did not noticed the problem. I was running XPand maybe no RAID, can't remember.
Today, I'm running Windows 7 with latest Intel drivers, with a RAID1 on ICH7R SATA3 and SATA4 ports, a system drive on SATA1.
Edit: The culprit is JMicron driver! Thanks G40RoCkEt  for having pointed this, I would not have even been thinking that the driver of a separate controller could cause problems with a specific port on another one!
Removing the RAID_SET jumpers is a clear mistake, as the Sil4723 chip seems to keep interacting in a bad way on the connection, at least when ICH7R is configured as Raid.
Edit: Actually, this can be still true, but JMicron driver once uninstalled and back to Microsoft generic AHCI driver, the problem seems gone for good.
I've also taken a look at the manual: it says that you must put the jumpers in RAID1 configuration, plug the drive on EZ_RAID1 and leave the EZ_RAID2 free, in order to setup a RAID10 with 4 drives using ICH7R...
So this might not be an issue in others modes than [Raid].
Now that I have putted the jumpers back to RAID1 mode, the problem is gone. The drive attached alone to the EZ_RAID1 port is performing as expected, not as it would on a regular ICH7R port, but without issues.
Edit: I've experienced some random freezes since with iaStor problems showing up in event manager. Reverted back to Matrix Storage driver 8.8.1009 as advised by Intel communities forums -> Problem still here (note better general responsiveness!). JMicron driver uninstalled, problems gone!
Voila, that's all for my report.
Edit, I'm investigating whereas it's a problem with the driver or a version of the driver or even a problem under Windows 7 with the driver. I'll post my results here :)
Hope this can still help, even it's a bit late!
Cheers!
Alex.
Time to salute that Mobo!
You can add more memory (to 8GB), put in an SSD, a Q9300 QUAD core or better, a fast graphics card and update to Win 8.1 and you will get a reasonable machine.
But for two things:
1) The cost will not be worth it.
2) You will have to work through some setup and driver issues (good if your are technically minded).
I think it's time you retire this board and buy some new hardware. A lot of good cheap and much faster hardware out there at the moment.
However if you can get all that stuff free and you like messing around with boards and software than go for it!

If anyone would like a good home (P5W DH home that is) for an unused QX9650, keep me in mind ;)

My MOBO is still running after 15 years non stop.
Still good for browsing, email, youtube and lite gaming (COD 3).
It's a lot better than my 2012 HP i5 gen 2 but not as fast single threaded performance as a Surface pro 2 i5 gen 3. But it is still better on multi threaded.
I thought I died the other day but it turned out to be the power supply. Changed that and it's still going.
It gets used every day.
Can't believe it!!!
