I wanted to know whether 6x1 giga ocz platinium @ 1600 7-7-7 1t on gigabyte exreme could work.

OK this is strange, right now I am running linX, 200x20 HT off and everything
on Auto (temps good ~70c on AIR), if I try and set the CPU vcore manually and or the QPI/VTT voltage manually it won't even boot into Windows.
Why would this be happening?
CPU-Z voltage reads 1.312 and moves to 1.360 and back again.
What do I do??
what vcore are you trying to set? Does it change in cpu-z when there is a load or just randomly?
tried setting it to 1.37 up to 1.4
When I have it set to auto it moves in CPU-Z in windows, I can't get into windows if it's not on auto
Should I try higher?
edit: Tried 1.48 and booted to Windows, CPU-Z reads 1.44
trying QPI/VTT voltage next
edit edit:
If I change the QPI/VTT voltage when booting it only shows 4gb ram...
OK I have it running linX now (only 17mins) at 4GHz temps ~78, will have to let it go a few more hours and see how it goes.
CPU-Z vcore moving from 1.392 to 1.424 bios set at 1.48
as long as the voltage reqts are 1.65v you are fine.
if over that you might still be fine but you will be taking some risk.
I have seen it said, how official I do not know that if you keep mem v within .5v of qpi volts you are ok, but again I have not seen anything official on this.
So - what this means for example - is that if you run your qpi at 1.335v you should be able to run your mem at up to .5v above that - so 1.835v.
But again this flies in the face of the 1.65v rule that we have all heard from day one. I have run at 1.84 for oc up to 10 hrs with no harm (yet).
@ GAR:
Your signature states:
Since I have the same CPU and Cooler except my board is the Extreme version which I believe makes no difference, could you send me your BIOS settings, since IŽd be content to run my CPU at 4GHz and in this way wouldnŽt need to do a lot of testing myself.Quote:

forgot about this one Core i7 Vdimm/VTT Graveyard, Is this Too Much Voltage For an i7 920? :)
do u guys have LLC on of off?
Well I have mine stable at 4GHz so far, Vcore set at 1.36 in bios, HT off.
@technut
I tried that, Windows does start but after a few seconds in prime Windows freezes and I have to restart manually.

OK thought I had mine stable and then I rebooted :(
Very strange thing I could reboot 5 times just fine and then the next time the overclock beeps go nuts.
I can change a few things and it will boot up just fine, then go back and change to 20x200 and it works great. Then I could reboot a few times and
all of a sudden it does the same thing.
Anyone else getting odd stuff like that with the new Bios F6a?
what did u use to check the stability before the beeps came in the picture.
i have had similar problem with other motherboards, but i found out that it was not fully stable to start with.
f6a is not bad, but my gut says Gigabyte is gonna kick off a new bios soon.
I did linX overnight 8+ Hours, before that I had rebooted a few times for Virus updates etc. with no problems.
Then in the morning after I shut down linX and checked my mail, surfed for a bit and rebooted then it went all nuts.
Right now I have it backed down to 3.8 and I am going to play around for a few days and see if it does it again.
OK bud, lets try this to get your oc working.
load f6a using qflash
load optimized settings, restart and go back into bios
change HDD to first boot, adjust hdd priority
take off the splash screen
put in ram timings and voltage manually
rest of the settings are basic as u tried previously,
this time lower the base clock to 190, and slowly work your way up working on the vcore, qpi/vtt, may be even cpu pll.
for testing you can go start the vcore a little higher then tighten slowly while checking the stability.
i have noticed that my 920 tends to require a little higher voltage then some of the others on here.
PLEASE BAN ME, or put me on probation for 2 weeks, i have the most important exam of my life coming up for graduate school and i cannot stop coming here and tweaking my board. I need help, I am too addicted to this
Anyone have a personal opinion between this board and the EVGA?
