I need that vdrop mod, this GA-P35-DS3R rev1 board has a huge vdrop in my opinion, even with this e2160, and in just a few days I get my Q6600 G0 :confused2 soon I have a lot of fun (and hopefully some certain games wonīt drop in fps...)
Iīm not afraid of those vmods introduced by sham but if thereīs a easier mod available I think I should go with that.

It's a circuit writer pen. I ordered mine online. They are not exactly rare. Kinda expensive but the easiest way to do this. You could probably use that rear window defroster repair paint too though (I got some at an autozone store once). Maybe pencil lead, but that stuff will vaporize over time with current going thru it so resistance will slowly rise.

LOL. Yeah you can't get any easier than just bypassing a single resistor with some conductive paint or whatever. It seems to be working fine. I am stable at 3.2 GHz with stock volts now. I also found a mod for my 965P-DS3 3.3 that covers the same resistor.
I have to say that I'm rather confused as to why Gigabyte lowered the voltage like that in the first place, if it can be fixed by just bypassing that single resistor.

A little FYI here on my previously posted voltmod for the vdroop: I undid it. It seemed to have caused a very distinct buzz from the voltage regulator area of the board. Not all that nice to hear. I have no idea what it meant, but I decided to undo the mod because of it.
Perhaps it was overloading a part of the vreg circuitry? No idea honestly. The sound got louder with higher volts and load, and is completely nonexistent without the mod.
:confused: now thatīs weird. By bypassing that resistor, it should just rise the voltage a bit, but I donīt think that it would cause the regulator(s) to "hum" or "buzz".
Maybe if the "undoing" the mod made the "humm/buzz" sound(s) go away, there must be somthing related in those sound(s) and bypassing that resistor....sound pretty odd to me. The sound(s) are now gone when you undid that mod, arenīt they?
Faulty board? Something broken?
Oh one thing that I know for sure can make those "humming/buzzing" sounds are inductors. But they are all ferrite core ones, can they "humm/buzz"? Havenīt thought about that. (blah rather obvious they can...)
That's kinda why i'm concerned about the exact reason as to what this mod does bypass.. Sure it fixes the issue, but it could be preventing an overload on the vRegs or something.. *shrug*
AS5 will be slightly capacitive but it's not conductive, if the arctic silver website is true (well, at least it said that a few years ago last time I checked).
That is a little concerning. I haven't heard anything on mine thus far. I'm not really fussed with my board to be honest. If it goes, no big deal as it was a cheapie.

Is this mod available (or any other worthwhile mods) for the GA-P35-S3 (Rev 2)? I get bad vdroop when overclocking too. Currently set at 1.5v in bios, real voltage is ~1.40-1.42v
Stable @ 3.3ghz though at this voltage (E4400 10 x 330)
Also, what's with the lack of bios updates on the GB site? There's only F5 & F6
Yeah I'm sure it was coming from an inductor. Hard to determine with this board's closed inductors because you can't stop their vibrations with your finger like with cheapie open inductors.
Ah well. It would be interesting to hear if anyone else gets that sound if they do the mod. It really did fix up the vdroop in a big way. 1.40v BIOS = 1.38v sensor. Without the mod I have to do like 1.50v BIOS to get 1.40v sensor, and at idle the volts are ~0.05v higher than load. Dumb stuff with these boards.
My 965P-DS3 rev 3.3 got a very similar mod. Hell, I think I covered the same resistor in the same spot lol. No bad sounds from it.
Do they fans need to be 4 pin fans to be controlled with SpeedFan? This was not a requirement on my P5B Deluxe
Or do you mean only the two 4 pin headers can be controlled with either a 4 or 3 pin fan?

I didn't know how well 9500 would fit versus 9700 and all benchmarks I saw showed less than 3C difference in typical situations.
I meant to ask a couple of questions:
How do I set the memory ratio to 1:1, I believe in Giga boards it's "2.0" option under the memory divider in the overclocking menu (CTRL+F1 -- been using that since GA-7VAXP KT400 board!!)
Can you confirm 1:1 = 2.0?
I basically plan to set CPU ratio at 8x, memory at 1:1 (voltage at 2.1 obviously), FSB at 400 and voltage somewhere close to 1.375-1.40 and begin Orthosing all four cores. I know how to overclock, I've just used ASUS boards since my KT400 Giga board blew its caps.
Also, how is best method to flash BIOS from USB stick. I must apply latest BIOS flash due to 1TB hard drive (some issue??). I know how to use Q-Flash from reading manual I downloaded but do I just put the BIOS .bin file in root directory of USB drive or do I need to use HP formatting tool?
Yup just set it to 2.0 and it'll be 1:1.
I couldn't ever get the HP boot tool working for me - but you don't need it if you're flashing the BIOS :) Make sure USB Legacy mode is enabled, then enter Q-Flash once you're in the BIOS setup (F9 I think it was). Then your USB stick should show up as a HDD in there. All you need on the stick is the bin file you want to flash with.
Probably the most painless BIOS update process i've come across actually. Quite happy with it :)
