Greetings!
I am new to over clocking, and setting up manual values in motherboards, for years i've been a simple system builder with no reason to over clock. It's time for me to upgrade my rig but unfortunately it's not possible for me to upgrade everything at this time.
I have a P5W-DH rev 1.02g
Does this board support 45nm technology?
If so, both dual and quad cores?
I was looking at a E8500 but might make the jump to a Q9400 for a longer life.
Also, I am new to setting values to bios settings / overclocking, i've always just set everything to auto. Is there an informative post where i can learn what to set the values to?
Thank you!
-Mike
Mw818, your board supports all 45nm CPUs. But you won't be able to set CPU voltage below 1,45V. Only Rev 1.04G supports voltages lower than 1,45V with 45nm CPUs. Ntvh, setting MCH voltage to 1,75V is more than enough to reach 445MHz. My board reached 450MHz with this voltage.
thanks for the reply tom, do you know how the lack of those voltages will affect me// what does that mean? sorry, very new here. Thanks, Mike
first i would like to say that the ppl in this thread probably know more about this board than ppl at ASUS do.
with that out of the way, here is my CPU-z

9.0 multi
Mike, if you set 1,45V in BIOS, you'll get 1,41V under load, which is quite safe for those 45nm CPUs. If you have good cooling, then you don't have to worry about this. I think you can reach 4GHz at this voltage using E8500. MaximumPig, it's quite strange. Try downgrading your BIOS to 2704 revision.
Hi tomcug, please could you tell me how did you change vcore?
I have a p5w dh deluxe 1.04g motherboard, bios 2801, and processor e7200 2.53ghz.
I've already tried clearing CMOS but nothing happend, and I tried with bios 2704 too :(
When I go to Jumper Settings, it says "VCORE: AUTO" and I can't change it!
Here's a photo:
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/9...3090ag5.th.jpg
Thanks man
Jpmermoz, I simply entered BIOS after installing E7200 and saved settigns. After that I could change CPU voltage. You problem is somehow strange. Try downgrading BIOS to 2602 revision which doesn't officially support E7200 and removing CMOS battery for few minutes. I think that should help you. Could you also post a photo from CPU Settings section in your BIOS?
I had sometimes such strange thing, that BIOS allow to set CPU Vcore only to Auto, it happens only after CMOS clearing or flashing new BIOS. Simply save settings in BIOS helps, and after second BIOS load, I can set my Vcore.
How can I downgrade BIOS to 2602?? Once I tried to do that but to version 2701, and I couldn't..
Should I use ASUS Flash Utility? Afudos?
And there won't be no problem after doing that right?
Here's the CPU Settings photo:

In order to get the 9.5 multi I switched to 2704 but that didn't do it. Then I cleared CMOS by not just using the jumper but also removing the battery, and then I had the 9.5 multi.
so I would recommend that anyone having problems --- remove the cmos battery and also use the jumper to be sure all the bios settings are cleared out. I suspect I could have gotten 9.5x with 2801 if I had cleared the CMOS and battery first before flashing back to 2704.
I can't seem to get stable above 367 fsb probably because I have 4 sticks of mediocre memory, 4x1GB of Corsair Twin2x2048-6400C4D
what type of CPU volts should I need to hit 400? 1.45 or so?
have anyone encountered this problem?
in vista ultimate im transfering files from one hdd to another both are 1tb 32mbcache
it just takes long on the calculating time remaining when moving files from the 1tb to another hence it should not be like that since im only transfering 1g of file
things ive done
tested all drives in xp and all are ok
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled - doesnt improve
Remote Differential Compression - doesnt improve
im using bios 2801
e6420 oc`ed to 3ghz
2x1g ddr2 800 team dark rams
seagate 320 16mb sata - vista os
seagate 750 32mb sata - files
seagate 1tb 32mb sata - files
seagate 1tb 32mb sata - files
seagate 320g 16mb ide - files
wd 320g ide 16mb- files
ibm 80g ide - xp back up os
Well I made a jump today and bought an E8500 with E0 stepping
here is an SS of my cpu-z
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/c...18/comp/ss.jpg
For the cooler i am using a ZALMAN CNPS9700 LED
I would like to overclock this PC, however i'm very new to overclocking. Anybody have some info i can read to educate myself? (basically what to tinker with, and how to test if its stable)
thanks!
Mike, I see you bought a new CPU :). E8500 with E0 stepping is very good for overclocking so you should be able to overclock it to 3,9-4GHz at stock voltage. You should start with those settings:
CPU Frequency: 400MHz
DRAM Frequency: 800MHz
Performance Mode: Auto
PCI Express Frequency: 100MHz
PCI Clock Synchronization Mode: 33.33MHz
Memory Voltage: 2V
CPU VCore Voltage: Auto
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.3V
MCH Chipset Voltage: 1.65V
ICH Chipset Voltage: 1.05V
This will give you 3,8GHz and those settings should be stable with stock voltage. Don't forget to enable SPD Timings in BIOS, because your system won't be stable without that. You can use ORTHOS to test your system's stability. If those settigns will be stable, then you can try overclocking a bit more.
Jpmermoz, use ASUS Flash Utility in BIOS to downgrade to 2602 revision.
Tom, I've downgraded to 2602, and cleared CMOS, but i'm still having the problem :(
Do you know any other possible solution?
Thanks
did you remove your cmos battery and flip the jumper at the same time?
Hey Tom,
Thank you!
I set those settings in the bios and now here is what my CPU-Z looks like
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/c...mp/9-28-08.jpg
Looking at my voltage is everything OK?
Also I did set SPD to ENABLED it looks like this:
http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/c...-28-08-mem.jpg
I do have 4-4-4-12 ddr800 dual channel, why would SPD slow it down?
Sorry, i'm very new!
Also, What programs would you recommend to control my fans? I would like to have it software side and not bios side, i'm assuming its better because it's customizable
Thanks Tom! You're a HUGE HELP!
edit:
i forgot to mention i have a 450w power supply
and im running bios version 2801
Mike, if you set SPD timings, then you always get 5-6-6-18 timings. But you have to do that, because our motherboards have some troubles with custom timings and FSB speeds exceeding 370MHz. For controlling fans speed I'm using Asus PC Probe II.
ack now i'm realizing that when my pc awakes from sleep the multiplier has dropped to 9
i don't suppose anyone knows a workaround or fix? This is with BIOS 2704 and E8500, Vista x64.
I'm experiencing the same issue :). When my PC awakes from sleep mode, then multiplier drops to 9.0x. I don't think there is any fix available.
Hi,
First of all, I would like to say Thanks you to all members who help / educate me about how to OC. You guys are the best.
Second, I 'm trying to make my CPU E6600 2.4GHz 1066mhz FSB to the max.
here is my data Welcome all suggestion
Bios ver = 2801
CPU Freq = 423
CPU Mhz = 3.80
Mem v = 1.80v
Dram freq = 635
MCI v = 1.85v
FSB term..= 1.30v
What can I do to make the temp from the" core temp " progarm goes low right now the temp are c0= 53 c, c1 = 52 c
With that temp if I load or use Nero to work on movie, the temp at core temp program show me like 67 c or 68 c. Then Shut down
Please help Thanks:up:
Hey guy's, I don't know whether anybody has an similar problem, but..
I have an P5W DH Deluxe, E6600, 4 GB of Kingston 667, 2 WD 500 GB SATA2 disks in Raid 0, 1 DVD RW SATA drive, 550Wat PS unit, 5 more less regular coolers, now... whenever I'm trying to install the second DVD sata drive, in Bios this is recognized but when windows starts there is nothing, tried with updating bios, changing sata ports, install ide drive etc, nothing.
I tried the same thing in one of my friends PC, he has P5K Asus mobo, strange enough I had the same problem, when installing individually all the drives work fine, now I'm really confused, I suppose I'm missing something, don't know yet what.
So, if someone has encountered the same problem, could you please help, pleeeaaaseee, I'm really desperate to fix this issue.
Thanks in advance
Check, can be your DVD drive seen in Device Manager? Maybe it there, but haven't drive letter.
Also you can try to plug it to Jmicron SATA port.
Hi
Have been reading with interest many of the posts whilst waiting to get my account validated, which has just been done, thanks!
So here's my problem (and lack of knowledge!) if anyone can help.
I an trying to upgrade from E6600 to E8500 CO on BIOS 2801.
BIOS recognises the new processor fine however on booting into Vista I get a BSOD. With these errors:
0X000000D, (0X00000000, X00000002,0X00000001, 0X8CE020c0)
What if any changes do I need to make from the default BIOS settings to avoid this, or do I need to reinstall Vista? Or should I be using another BIOS version like 2704?
thanks in advance
another noob :)
Hi people!
I'm new here. My name is Miguel and i live in Portugal.
Well, i been reading lots of post to this interesting thread.
I have some problems to overclock my system. Here my system:
ASUS P5W DH DELUXE (bios 2801)
E8500
4 x 1GB OCZ DDR2 800 OPS EDITION
2 x WD320GB (AAKS) SINGLE PLATE IN RAID0
1 x WD 1TB GP
EVGA GTX280
PSU THERMALTAKE PURE POWER 680W
Well, i try some seetings (including Yolanda seetings) but no sucess to overclock my E8500.
To i can boot my pc, in the bios i defined:
FSB - 333
MEMORY - DDR834 (auto option)
MEM VOLTAGE - 2.00V (if i defined less, the windows was unstable)
Lnk to my memories:
http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...al_ops_edition
I try all the seetings that i read in this thread and i cannot boot from the pc.
I change the bios and when i make SAVE BIOS AND EXIT, the pc don't start and no image to the screen. I have to do clear cmos.
I try with only 2 x ddr2 memory and not sucess to.
I try this too:
CPU Frequency: 400MHz
DRAM Frequency: 800MHz
Performance Mode: Auto
PCI Express Frequency: 100MHz
PCI Clock Synchronization Mode: 33.33MHz
Memory Voltage: 2V
CPU VCore Voltage: Auto
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.3V
MCH Chipset Voltage: 1.65V
ICH Chipset Voltage: 1.05V
NO SUCESS! PC DON'T BOOT AND NO IMAGE. Clear cmos is necessary.
What a hell i have to do?
I only want to make this E8500 at 3.8ghz...
Sorry for my bad english and long text. I'm desesperated with this..
I hope that you people can help me there.
Thanks for everyone.
i have a clock stable e6600@3.6mhz two years on good h20 system
looking to upgrade but retain this p5w dh board i have bios 2801 in situ
what quad cpu route is going to produce the best oc results mp4 rendering is part of the upgrade and some game play.
i want to retain the board as i often use hackintosh software on my spare drive and the p5wdh suits this mac software.
looking at a q9550 but cant find many posts on this set up
will the q9550 overclock with this mobo?
Most posts suggest this mobo has problems with any quad over 3.2mhz stable.
any advice welcome if my thoughts with current cpu are worth following.
thanks
graylinghunter
Forget about quads on this mobo
What is its heal why are quad overclocks poor?
It's a great mobo but face it, it's long past its compatibility with the latest cpus. It was already old for overclocking conroes, not to mention wolfdales/yorkfields
so if you were going to upgrade this cpu on this board what would be your choice?
I am not going for any records just treating myself to a new shiny cpu to get another couple of years from this rig
I have checked, but it is not there, I have disabled jmicron controller
since I use Intel controller for raid 0, but nothing, strange can someone
at list confirm that they have more then 4 sata drives, be that HDD or
DVD installed on P5W DH mobo, or P5K.
thanks and cheers
armend,
Use the DVD in the EZRAID SATA connectors (Orange).
I use my 3 HDD SATA drivers in the 3 avaliable sata ports (with RAID by intel chipset) + 1 dvd sata drive in the EZBACKUP Orange connector 1. Work perfectly. (you need remove the jumper too make the EZRAID BACKUP connector work like a sata connector normal.
hello everyone, p5w dh deluxe is a great mobo, and ai tech is amazing.
But i cannot use my ai suite now. When i open ai suite, there is a messagebox: you cannot get default frequency. The program seems to be dead, it eats up 50% cpu resource and does not work at all. what's wrong?
my system: vista32, bios 2801(newest), 2704, pcb version 1.02g, e2160 overclock 3g(333*9), but 200*9 also have the problem.
another problem: p5w autostarts when power is on, i cann't stop it, it is normal before, i just have a remote on usb 3, no one on usb 4.
sorry for my chinese english, thanks to everyone here :)
So what is the best oc i will get out of the p5wdh on current quads and duals
without any hardware mod to p5w board.
As i say I dont want to throw the board yet!
any help welcome the 4ghz e8500 clocks look great but what is the best quad result stable on the p5w thanks
GH
Anyone to help me?
(please see my first post)
Ok, I am resigned to my current OC with my q6600. But I seem to have a new problem.
I was testing NCQ with my 150GB Raptor, and now I seem to have occasional random system freezes. Like the hard disk light will go solid, and for one minute my computer will not respond. I am not sure of all the settings in the BIOS under AHCI, but I enabled all of the ones that seemed relevant based on definition. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Is one of those two settings that pop up once you enable AHCI problematic?
I searched and saw the closest similar symptom in this thread is that WIFI freeze, so I disabled the WIFI. I also read that it helps to enable "enable advanced performance" for the hard disk under the device manager properties. I have done both and have not had a freeze yet but am wondering if NCQ is flighty on this board.
Anyone else have any of these issues? Worst case I will turn off AHCI, but I have read of other P5WDH users enjoying their NCQ.
Hi,
It kind of crazy when I turn my system on the screen only can allow me to move the mouse in 2 second then it freez. If I try to open any application it does the same thing. I have to wait for 4 hrs or may more than that to see my computer working nornal again. What is the cause of that Problem
All of this happen at Stock, My Bios 2601 after OC at 3.8
1- is iit my mem is gone or going to...
2- I c/o out two CPU- (A E8400, OC at 3.8 )and (E8500, run at stock) and start my Gig and it post the Blue screen come on and restart the whole thing again. What went wrong?
3- I go back to E8300, 2,4 GHz and run It is run seem OK , but have to wait for long time so my nouse can move.
4- OR OR My computer have virus or spyware?
What the cause of all these?
Please help. Thanks:confused::confused:
Swap two new sticks Ram.....it still hunng for second the problem still there.
please help
Hi again,
Here my screenshots of my bios:

Well, i already try this:
CPU:400
DRAM: 800
CPU VOLTAGE: (i try AUTO and 1.45v **** THE BIOS DON'T LET ME DECIDED MORE LOWER THAN 1.45v... ONLY 1.45 UNTIL 7.00V)
PERFOR: AUTO
PCI FREQ.: 100
PCI CLOCK: 33.33
MEM VOLT.: (i try: AUTO, 1.8,1.9, 2.00, 2.1 and 2.2V)
FSB VOLT: 1.3V
MCH CHIPSET: (i try: 1.55V, 1.65v)
ICH CHIPSET: 1.05v
SPD ENABLED: 5-5-5-12 (default timmings)
After save in the bios, still no boot. Is necessary turn OFF the computer and turn ON again.
What a hell i have to do?
In my CPUZ my motherboard revision appears 1.xx
I downgrade to a 2704 bios.
Still no have boot.. I only want FSB400 and ddr 800 (1:1)
Someone with more help?
Need help BADLY, After waiting for 6 HRs, My computer is seem run normal but when I turn on the Coretemp program...at the freq ..it show only 1.8Ghz? What is wrong? Is My MB is gone or the CPU is gone? Please help. Thanks
Run CPU-Z from www.cpuid.com to verify CPU freq. and all related settings.
No Clue at all . I reload the whole system now is seem running fine, except when I turn on the emule program..my whole computer frooze. Don't know what is going on. Will report back for for info. Thanks
Well, after many configuration, and a big thanks to my friend Tom, here my stable seetings :
With 4 x 1GB DDR2 800 the max that i can get is, 370FSB & DDR2 740Mhz:
CPU Frequency: 370MHz
DRAM Frequency: 740MHz
Performance Mode: Auto
PCI Express Frequency: 100MHz
PCI Clock Synchronization Mode: 33.33MHz
Memory Voltage: 1.8V
CPU VCore Voltage: Auto
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.3V
MCH Chipset Voltage: 1.65V
ICH Chipset Voltage: 1.05V
SPD - Enable (timmings - 5-6-6-18)
With 2 x 1GB DDR2 800 at least i can get , 380FSB & DDR2 760Mhz:
CPU Frequency: 370MHz
DRAM Frequency: 740MHz
Performance Mode: Auto
PCI Express Frequency: 100MHz
PCI Clock Synchronization Mode: 33.33MHz
Memory Voltage: 1.8V
CPU VCore Voltage: Auto
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.3V
MCH Chipset Voltage: 1.65V
ICH Chipset Voltage: 1.05V
SPD - Enable (timmings - 5-6-6-18)
Anyone with OCZ DDR2 800 OPS EDITION with manual timmings?
http://www.ocztechnology.com/product...al_ops_edition
EDIT:
Anyone reach 380FSB with 4 stick memory? If yes, How?
Aye, I've got 4x1 gig sticks of GEiL DDR2-800 RAM, and it won't run at 800 mhz at all :( I've got a 400mhz FSB with my E8400 and I really want to run the RAM at its rated speed at 1:1 ratio :(
I was told earlier on in the thread that 975X has problems with 4 RAM slots being filled.
Using SPD timing doesn't help, nor does increasing the volts :(
Yes, it's very difficult to run 4 sticks of memory at stock speeds. Not only 975X has such problems. Same problems happen with 650i or 680i with 4 memory slots filled.
Dunno. Mine ran fine with 4x1 sticks up to rated 1066 although it is possible that they prevented me from achieving FSB over 400
hi all
I have problems when trying to run 4 sticks of ram on the p5w. System is:
(p5w) - BIOS 2704
Intel e6600 stock with thermalright 120 ultra extreme
2x1G Corsair 6400C4
2x1G Crucial Balistix Tracer 6400
4x750 + 1x640 HDDs with various raid volumes
Digitalnow quattro s-t tv capture card
Creative Audigy 2 zs platinum
Coolermaster Real power 850W psu
Symptoms vary, but usually what happens is:
0. (computer is off - has been off for at least 15 minutes)
1. Turn on computer
2. Video card posts
3. You hear a single beep indicating normal post
3. Mobo hangs on post (you see the p5w splash graphic, but nothing happens - have waited for hours)
Other symptoms i have had include:
- no post at all - this only seems to happen when the crucial sticks are in the orange slots and the corsair sticks are in the black slots
Eventually i can make the mobo post and load the OS etc by LEAVING the computer frozen in post for at least 10 min (if I only leave it a short time, it doesn't tend to work) and then powering off and powering back on (reset doesn't seem to work at all). When the mobo does eventually post, it sometimes tells me that "overclocking has failed" and I have to go into the bios (changing nothing doesn't stop the OS loading next time), but at other times it just loads the operating system straight away. This procedure doesn't always work (ie. the computer won't always get to the OS on the second attempt), but eventually after enough powering off and powering on it will 'randomly' work.
The interesting thing is that once I have got into the OS, I can shut down the computer and it will always work first time if I try turning on the computer again after no more that 1 or 2 minutes. It is almost like the RAM needs to warm up!
How do I know this is caused by the RAM? I am not 100% certain, but here are a few points and questions:
1. If I use less than 4 sticks, the computer will always work first time.
2. I can get rid of the splash screen, and when I do this i see that the last thing shown in the printout is something about usb device detection. The next thing that should come up is the ram detection stage.
3. I usually run my ram at 2.2V 800mhz 4-4-4-12-4 - I am currently trying to run slower speeds and looser timings, but this doesn't seem to help. I haven't tried "default to spd".
4. I wonder whether the bios battery could be dying
5. I wonder whether this could be caused by a hardware incompatibility. I haven't actually gone to the length of pulling out all my expansion cards and trying to post with 1 hdd, vid card, and the 4 sticks of ram, but at various times I have had each of the cards out individually with no change.
6. PSU should be more than adequate - to ensure this i pulled out all power except mobo and still had issues.
7. bios memory setting?
8. could be a memory seating issue, except that i have had the sticks in and out often and whenever it is only 2 or 3 sticks it always works
9. dodgy memory stick - when the mobo gets through post I've been able to run memtest through and I get no errors at all.
10. the cpu and vid card are *NOT overclocked*
So in summary I'm looking for advice from people who might have come across similar issues to what i am encountering. I keep hearing of people who are able to run 4 sticks in this board without any issues so i wonder whether it is something that I'm doing wrong. Any advice or constructive comments would be appreciated.
uomenothing
Well first thing to do, I think, would be to put two sticks in, run memtest (built into Vista if you have it) and see if it reports any errors. Then put in the other two and run it.
Hi Radlord
Thanks for your comment. As I said in my first post, memtest runs and finds no errors with all four sticks in at 800MHz 4-4-4-12-4 - obviously I can only run memtest on four sticks after it has got through post though. I have also tested the sticks individually at this setting (and higher) and they check out fine.
Since I posted last I have tried setting bios to use spd, as well as trying manual settings at 533MHz 6-6-6-18-6 - neither of these settings worked...
hmmmm. How weird.
Maybe try bumping the volts up on the Northbridge a wee bit?
New Core2 E7400 is released with very high 10.5 ratio and on new R0 stepping, making it possible to get 4.2GHz at only 400FSB.
I wonder how that R0 stepping overclocks :). I think it should be much better than M0, just it was in case of E0 compared to C0.
Well people, after change my PSU to a new Corsair TX750W, i can reach the 380FSB easy, as you can see:
http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/3...0fsbredft7.jpg
http://img510.imageshack.us/img510/o...pg/1/w1024.png
It's a weird, but with my old PSU (thermaltake pure power 680w) i not pass orthos for more than 1H.
Seems that the PSU is a very important thing to oc sucess.
So, for now, 3.6ghz in cpu with 2.1V in 4 x 1GB DDR2 is not so bad. :D
CPU Frequency: 380MHz
DRAM Frequency: 760MHz
Performance Mode: Auto
PCI Express Frequency: 100MHz
PCI Clock Synchronization Mode: 33.33MHz
Memory Voltage: 2.1V (if have 2x1GB, only 1.8V)
CPU VCore Voltage: Auto
FSB Termination Voltage: 1.3V
MCH Chipset Voltage: 1.65V
ICH Chipset Voltage: 1.05V
SPD - Enable (timmings - 5-6-6-18)
Good and old motherboard :clap::clap:
this mobo served me well, glad to see it's still going strong : ) *salutes*
designed for 2 stick dual channel, 4 stick imagine is unstable? :/
I'm still using Bios 2004.
Using it overclocked now for over a year. It is stable. Do you guys recommend upgrading or will there be no difference noticable. "If it ain't broken.... " ??
The reason i'm thinking about upgrading is that i'm seeing "only" 2gb in stead of 3.2gb in Vista 32bit. Do you think it is because i have a 640mb videocard ?
Using it with
E6600
4x1gb HyperX mem.
8800GTS 640MB
Paul, i use a good Noctua cooler as you can see in the image of my computer:
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/7595/th02vp6.jpg
http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/t...pg/1/w1024.png
EDIT: Paul your temps i think is fine. I have the cpu in 26º at IDLE, and 38º-40º FULL
So, after 3:30H of orthos, i run one 3dmark06 test with my 380FSB and my new Corsair 750W.
Test are fine and after finish the test i played in GRID game.
Well, first racing, in the second lap , have a BSDO (machine_check_exception)....
Seems , that 380FSB with 4 x 1GB, is to forget with this board... Or should i put some vcore voltage in cpu?
I still have the problem in vcore cpu - bios allow me in 1.45v - 7V. Less than 1.45v i cannot define.
So, back another time to 370FSB with my 4 x 1GB. - STABLE LIKE A ROCK AGAIN.
In the future i will change my memories, and put some 2 x 2GB DDR2 800 KIT.
For now, i still have a little happy with this OC.
Finally got an E8600 to replace the E6600 but without changing the good old P5W DH, here is the result:

My easiest overclock ever! Thanks to all that helped me before getting the 400 fsb bootable and stable :)
My board revision is the same as yours and I also can not set the voltage bellow 1.45v but it's no problem because it's a very good value for a moderate overclock.
Surprising with this CPU for the first time ever I'm able to boot this motherboard above 400 mhz fsb, I'm benchig at 10x 420 = 4.2 Ghz at the moment and it looks stable but I still have to test it with Orthos and after I'll try even more but I'm more than happy with 420 :D I never expect to go beyond 400...
Hello i'm from Portugal and like u all a proud owner of an p5w. Although i think it's a good board i'm havin' problems with my OC. here is my rig:
Q9450
Corsair 2GbX2 (1066Mhz)
HD3870X2
P5W DH Deluxe (bios 2704)
Asus Silent Knight II cooler
I've tried to set FSB to 385Mhz and the mem to 976Mhz, everything ran smooth, crysis ran better than ever but it always kept crashin' (BSOD). I don't know a lot about voltages but everytime i changed them i had too clear cmos.
Can someone help me?
Hi guys,
I have problems with A-data Vitesta Extreme Edition DDR2-800+ 2x2 GB . It's unstable at various settings. I'm using 1506 BIOS. Do you think that i should upgrade it ?
Try turning on Memory remap feature in BIOS (or turn it off if it is on). The videocard does not have anything to do with this.
i think that every ram selection above 2 x 1gb could cause problems (combined with overclock) with this board.
For example my cpu/system is stable at 420 FSB with 2 x 1gb
But with
2 x 2gb i can only run stable at 400 FSB
(no matter mch etc. voltage i use)
I tried to change the mem voltage to 1.95. Its more stable but i still get the BSOD.
I'm having with my memory too: it only recognizes 2.6Gb.Quote:

Using it with
E6600
4x1gb HyperX mem.
8800GTS 640MB
Update on my E8600 - Now 4100 Mhz rock solid!

BTW, from what I read ppl use very low memory voltages, is there a reason for that? I use 2.25v since 2 and half years with no problems and good results (considering the 5-6-6 timmings limited by this board).
I've had a couple of follow-up calls this week from ASUS Tech Support about my August call. Problem is, the detail of 1.02G boards not getting as wide a range of vCore values as other board revisions is still not being accepted as a "Hey. lets fix that" issue. Or at least not by the techs manning the phones.
So I'm supposed to call in once I'm at my computer, and someone will talk me through trying to get stable operation at 1333Mhz FSB. That's ALL they'll guarantee, and only if that doesn't work would they MAYBE consider it a warranty issue. Maybe.
I'm aiming for tonight...
The guy I talked to didn't think the exercise of changing settings again would get me anywhere, so he talked to his supervisor. I was told that a form would be emailed to me to fill out, with my specs like MB revision and CPU, and they'd set up the same system there for testing. My comment that searching Google would reveal others with the same problem was accepted but not with any excitement. I did volunteer to work closely with a Taiwan BIOS engineer to get the settings fixed, which was also acknowledged as having been heard.
Always willing to believe the semi-believable, I'm now waiting for that form so things can continue moving forward...
FWIW: I kept my P5W-DH because it works well with my E6400 Allendale and makes a nice media box.. I couldn't OC 4x1GB sticks for crap and barely could run stock speeds, but I can run 392FSB 1:1 with 2x2GB OCZ Reaper DDR800CL4 sticks, I have it set at 4-4-4-15 and in Sandra it actually has better bandwidth than my previous 2x1GB kits (at least 8 different kits on this particular board).
I am hoping someone can finally put me out of my misery. I had a Q6600 G0 given to me and I thought its worth having because of what I have seen as its overclocking qualities. Well I have tried everything and the best I get is 3.0ghz or if I use the 30% clock profile in the BIOS I can get up to 3.11.
I would be really grateful if anyone could give me some settings to try as I have been up and down the various changes and everytime I run orime it falls over on thread 4 within seconds.
I have an arctic freezer pro 7 and at 3.00 idle CPU temps are around 35.
Running Vista 64-bit with 4gb of 6400C5DHX RAM (timings at 5-5-5-18)
BIOS version 27.04
Like I said, if I am told thats as good as it gets, so be it, wait for a new motherboard
Thanks
Paul
Thats a blow :( I was hoping to hit the heady hights of at least 3.4 Presumably the only way is by investing in a new MOBO...what a bummer, just when you get something for nothing :)
I was told that MAYBE I'd hear back by Wednesday, but I do have the extension for the first tech I talked to if things drag on without feedback.
The trick of still finding a 1.02G around their office is likely the big hurdle. I doubt anyone who is in charge of testing the BIOS has one...
I agree that is the problem, but surely they can find a 1.02G (or original 1.01?) to reproduce the issue. I do remember reading about someone else being told by ASUS that they couldn't find an early revision board around the office at the moment but that the latest revision board changed vcore just fine!
Still, you have taken things further by escalating and formalizing issue so let's hope ASUS takes it more seriously this time.
I am an owner of a 1.02g revision board. I hope that a new bios version will eventually come up so i can install a 45nm cpu.
I think asus has to focus more on the problem and not just telling that they don't have a similar board to test...
Today, I finally got my desktop running again and am now having problems with my motherboard fan headers. About 4 months ago, I took apart my computer with my FAN1 and FAN2 headers working fine. Now, neither of them work while all the others work.
Is there a feature that disables headers or does it seem that my motherboard is crapping out on me? I bought this motherboard 1 and 1/2 years ago and expected longer life from this :(
Hi, I'm new here
I'm currently running my E8400 at P5W DH (rev 1.02G + 1,85 vmch) board , because my P5K Deluxe has broken. :( Cpu worked stable @ 4,0Ghz, 1,34vcore at P5K deluxe board.
Before I installed E8400, I had updated BIOS to ver 2801. With E8400, the lowest voltage available to me is 1.3625. When vcore is set to AUTO, bios HW monitor show 1,19V, but when I set manually cpu voltage to 1.400, the bios hardware monitor show 0.968. I checked 1,500v - HW monitor show 1,08V.
I need 1,3V real for my cpu at P5W...
I checked 2602, 2704 bios ver too, but it is not working too... still have the same problem.
Yesterday I talked with one user of this forum and he said that 1.02g owners can only use AUTO voltage setting with 45nm cpus.
Is there another way to resolve this problem or should I wait for new bios from Asus?
If you want a new BIOS, you should call or write ASUS just as mikepaul did above and report the problem. And no, there is no other solution for manual vcore settings for 45nm cpus on 1.02g revision boards.
My p5w can do 8*400 but I can't get into windows when I'm on 400*9 with
1.5 Vcore?? my e6600 is l641f ..should I try 1.55?

Thanks
Hkuve, my old E6600 cpu can run stable @ 3,6ghz with 1,600 vcore in BIOS (~1,56v real). I think 400x9 setting needs higher voltage if 400fsb works properly with 8x multipler. Check 1,55v but don't forget to check cpu's temperature.

Now your ram may not run a the same specs as mine so I would start with the timmings loose and conservative. Then once your CPU is stable @ 3.4ghz I would start to try and tighten them up.
Hi guys, i have this board at the moment with latest bios and im running a e8400 @ stock, i can also get it up to 3.8. But my problem is getting this board to boot with my gtx280 @ pciex16, anybody know how to do this ? if i try to boot up with the gtx280 in the orange pcie slot then it just doesnt turn on. if this is a bios setting then can somebody please tell me what i need to change in the bios, as i cant see anything relating to pcie speed. thanks in advance,

Question, are people here running the 8gb black dragon kit on this board? I'm running 4x1gb regular ( red ihs ) geil sticks atm but I need more ram in both this system as my other one so I'm about to order the black dragon kit so I can move this 4x1 to the other system and put the black dragon here. The manual/page says 8gb is supported, but there is no qualified vendor list I can find so I'm aksing you all.
Already looked if I could afford a new mobo, the increase in possible fsb would make it worthwhile but I can't spend the money atm. This will be my christmas gift for myself if I hear it will do fine :yepp:
I recently replaced my 6600 with an 8500 CPU on my 1.02g P5WDH (summer 2006 vintage).
It went fairly smoothly. I had to run BIOS 1801 to get rid of a microcode update error, and it took a few installs and a CMOS clear to make that work, and also to get back the 9.5 multiplier.
The CPU voltage has to be left on auto (CPU-Z reads 1.18V) as the lowest manual voltage in the menu is above the rated 1.26V maximum for this CPU. I also left C1E enabled since the voltage is auto.
The limitation to overclocking with my board is the north bridge (MCH). First, HyperPath3 must be disabled. Second, it needs a good heat sink (I use a tower HR-05). Third, it maxes out at 375 with 4-4-4-12-4 timing and 385 with SPD timing (375 at 1.60V, 385 at 1.65V).
I settled on the 375 timing (CPU at 3.567 GHz), which runs the NB a bit cooler and gives slightly better system performance due to better memory timings.
I have an original Ninja on the CPU with a slow Nexus fan. At idle, the fan is set at 44% (630 RPM - silent) and the CPU is 48C. Under Orthos, the fan speeds up to 65% and the CPU is 63C (the SpeedFan set point). The room ambient was 25C when these temperatures were measured.
Although this wonderful motherboard is very near end of life, it ain't quite dead yet!
I have a single 9800GT video card. It works fine in the top PCI-e slot. To make it silent, I replaced its heat sink with an Accelero S1 rev 2, and strapped on a slow fan.
The second PCI-e slot can never run x16 on this board. The only way to get x16 is with a single card plugged into the top slot. If you populate the second slot (whether running one card or two), both slots drop to x8.
The system wont boot with my gtx280 in the first slot, fans start to blow then slow down then blow again then slow down, but no post to the bios ??? any ideas why
Just a guess: sounds to me like one of the 12V rails on your power supply is overloaded and shutting down. You may need a bigger/better supply for this graphics card.
Really wild guess: did you attach the auxiliary 6-pin power cable to the video card? This card draws more than 75W which is the maximum the PCI-e connector will supply.
