DFI RDX200 CF-DR First look

I know someone asked this a while back but i never saw a response...i'm sure it got overlooked being that it was a tad OT:

Tony, do you have any word on when you'll be seeing a CF-BT? Also, being that you had so much input on the creation of that board, do you know if it too is tuned to 2x1gb and LL/BH or will it be a great clocker for ALL memory modules?

and to end - just wanted to say Tony that I, as do the rest of us i'm sure, really appreciate your thorough testing and diligence in trying to get this board to perform its best. Also of course for bringing us "the goods" as far as info goes on the boards well before anyone else - so Thanks! :toast:

CF-BT is either delayed or cancelled By DFI, hard to tell which. Expert is also delayed due to what i think is DFI having a rethink on the board.

CF-BT is a good clocker, had better features than the RDX so would still be a good board to release...i guess it comes down to time and money available, with Oskar looking to tweak the RDX maybe there is no time for the CF-BT....untimately who knows!

Bad news on all fronts for me, as I'm very interested in both of those boards.

where are you guys buying ur CF-DR's from in the usa ??/

also what is the difference between the cf-dr and the cf-bt ??

When will be released the CF-BT? and.. like jetjaguar said, what are the differences?

The difference was it was supposed to be created exactly like the ATI reference board. You could find info on it in the Grouper thread i guess :p:

B/c it supports crossfire as well. ATI reference CF board had different layout and design.

Yes. It is base on the halibut design, which is basically CF grouper.

Is there a pure grouper forthcoming from DFI then if the CF has been delayed?

Pure is made by sapphire, they list both single X16 and dual X16 boards, both are based on ATI reference boards.

DFI was also going to make a version called CF-BT, now it seems there are delays...why i don't know.

QUick question I tried to get 3.71 on the board but it only gives me 3.61-3.63
I have a ocz 520w.
I really dont want to change the psu but if I turn up the voltages will that help.

Tony, is there any chance of you getting Abit's AT8 to have a play with? (I thought I remembered you saying you could before). I would be very interested to see what Abit have done with the ATI chipset, and ULI southbridge combo.

I am still waiting to see how things pan out, but must admit I'm disapointed to hear that the BT might be cancelled...that was one of my options and the RDX doesn't feel like the right move for me personally.

Sorry that sounded confusing. I meant pure as in a ATI reference design grouper board. Not pure as in brand. My thought being that they made the NF4 in both SLI and single card versions. I was hoping they will be doing the same with this chip.

Tony have yo had a chance to run it with a 3000+ venice what wa sthe highest you got.
I seem to be stuck at 285 is the highest I can go with 9x multi,
Testing with 8x multi now.I also need to pump up the vcore to get it stable at 285 had to use 1.56v

ANother thing tony why is it the 180 divider is the only one that seems to work with bh5.
I can push the HTT but the board will not get into windows becuase of the memory.

Sup guys... well... i have some good and bad news, i got my computer together... but it won't let me install windows. I was wondering if anybody has had similar problems. I have the DFI crossfire board and my harddrive is a Maxtor Diamon Max 10 SATAII hard drive. I inserted the XP pro CD and went through the setup, but when trying to format it, it stays at 0% and then jumps to 100 before telling me that the drive cannot be formatted and it might be damaged. The hard drive is brand new, and i am getting activity LED's. I also got on maxtors website and downloaded their boot ISO's and formatted it that way and tried to install windowsa and it freezes at 75%. Does anybody have any idea what the problem might be????

See that floppy diskette that came with the mobo? Its the SATA drivers you need to load before XP prompts you to format the disk.

You said its a SATA 2 drive. Does it need to be jumpered or flashed to run in SATA 1 mode?

I have both boards and I purchased this board for a new build and to partly retire my nf4 to server status, but until the kinks are worked out it will sit on the benching table for a while.
I will say this chipset is faster that the nf4 if implemented correctly, it will need time to mature but all good things come to those who wait.

I'm aware of the Sapphire board..I hear it has a tendency to blow capacitors after several hours of prime..my question is whether or not DFI has a grouper board planned anytime soon.

well actually you heard about a bad bios that blew caps... i dont think the board going to turn out too bad especially now that sapphire decided to change the caps out anyways for something of higher quality.

Good. That must be the reason for the delay. Then my only concern about that board would be the location of the cpu socket and how big a sink it will take. It seems to be right along the northern edge.

yeah, im really hoping for sapphire to deliver on this, i was hoping for DFI on the halibut release, and im really dissapointed because the DFI halibut would have bee nright up my alley.

You might want to try Systool. It has complete ocing capability for the Sapphire PURE board. It may work on this one too for that reason.

It should work i used it on grouper and I have used an internal clockgen on the RDX200 without issue.

Tony any word on how to get higher that 3.6 on this board

Yes, there are actually :D

They only get recognized as 512MB though (that's the max per bank for the mem controller it seems).

It's always been a possibility to run 4x512 single sided though....but that wouldn't get the 8-way interleave.

How did we go from 2x512 DS running 2-way to 4x512 DS running all the way up to 8-way? Shouldn't the 2-way just have doubled?

And if you are right....then it's 4-way interleave with 4xDS that this board can do 1T with a few other select parameters.

With the NF4 DFI mobo it only gives you 2-way with 1 gig of mem. Either 2x512 or 4x256 and this is with DS ram. I'm not sure how single sided would work.

Does not rely on ranks, it works on ram density.So 2x512 may give you 4 way and 2x1024 should then give you 8 way.

4x512 at 1t is faster than 2x512 but about the same speed as 2x1024, now if you can run 4x1024 you should have the ultimate speed as long as you are at 1t.

fact is on the A64 we have 4 options of interleaving, 2way, 4 way, 8 way and off. I actually think:
2x256 or single channel = off
2x512 = 2way
2x1024=4way
4x512 and 4x1024=8 way

Hard to say whats actually correct but i know a man who can help.

Please remember it depends on density, not the ranks.

I'm curious about it, since i just got this board yesterday, and it does not boot with Ballistix at all, no matter what slot combo's, 1 stick, 2, ect. But it does boot with my TCCD, but i haven't been able to find any setting that will boot my Ballisitx (and it's a pain to keep switching ram, back and forth, to tweak settings hoping to get the Ballistix to boot).

My advise for anyone that owns just Ballistix memory, and thinking of getting this board, is to wait. Cause you won't be able to play without another set of ram that works with this MB. And if a bios fixes it, you'll need different ram just to flash it as well!)

The issue is im not 100% sure on 8 way with 4x1024 dimms. I do know running 4x512 1t is faster than 2x512, and 4x512 1t is about the same as 2x1024 1t. So, i need to ask some questions and get back to you.

My RDX CF-DR arrived today. In answer to someone else's question earlier, I got it because I hope to be using X1800XT in crossfire mode ASAP and this is one part of the equation done.

I'll probably just play around benching with it until I can actually get an X1800XT. It would be very cool if I could get a master card first day of release but I'm not holding my breath, I'll be happy to find the XT's in quantity.

I just built my 7800 GT SLI rig this week and I've managed 12260 in 3dMark05 so far.

That will be my main rig till the X1800XT starts to materialize in crossfire.

any problems, cold boots, or bugs yet.

Sapphire look to be releasing a version of halibut, they will not have tweaked it like DFI would have but im sure it will still be good.

CF-BT looks to be sidelined while they sort out the EXpert NF4, so this means it probably will not be released with a dfi logo on it.

Now...this does not mean someone else will not pick up on the design, and remember stories are now surfacing about RD580 which is dual16x and pin compatible with the RD480 i hear so we may have a dual 16x halibut sometime soon.

I was hoping to see CF-BT but in reality just seeing grouper and halibut on the market is pleasing enough for me. I suggested many aspects of these boards and ATI had the balls to just go with me and do them all.

I hope you enjoy the boards which ever name they have on them.
