Elpida Hyper IC based DRAM is being pulled off the market atm, at least by responsible manufacturers. So that's that for failure rates. Just one link...

Kingston, OCZ, and Corsair are taking the same action with the Elpida Hyper chips. Hopefully the new samsung chips will kick ass.

What a pitty for those that have this ram and they just die without saying goodbye, at least Corsair show that is a great company and asume the responsability... Well, Im feeling like sad and happy at the same time. Sad because I was really in love with this mems and was going to buy a kit, but happy because I havent bought them and dont have to be afraid to waste time and money :D
Hope they can resolve things fast and place the GT's in the market again, obviusly with everything ok!

Initially I thought this to be an issue with the i7 IMC, see Hwbot.

1.) How did the memory die?
While surfing the net, doing facebook stuff, etc. Nothing stressy. At the time, the sticks had been in my rig for about two weeks, performing well. Peaked at about 2200c8 @ 1.73vdimm/1.47vtt for a short time. Second kit displayed the missing stick-error after 3 days.
2.) What exactly happened?
BSOD followed by reboot, from then on only two sticks was detected. One of the sticks is acting up, not totally dead. Running auto will at times get it working again, same with reseating the kit after full power off.
3.) What board, pcb rev and bios version did you use?
Asrock X58 Deluxe 1.70

imo thats the saddest part... they ARE still around! :(
they just dont make highend dram anymore...
its horrible management at it once again... similar to micron they had top end chips, the best performance chips, but sales was selling them at dumping prices and trying to use their designs as cheap mass production chips... which obviously didnt work... its a shame... :(

mhhhh wait... so ocz is basically saying there is no problem but since anandtech and some people complained they will withdraw all their elpida hyper based stuff? that doesnt make a whole lot of sense to me :D
I had my OCZ Reapers die after one week with 1.66volts with loose timings at 1600 mhz. RMA and I still get the same revision of Reapers. Well If they die I'll just get another ;)

Just had one stick of my OCZ 787 20 Blades die.:( Never pushed to extreme, max volts 1.67...tried in Classified and BloodRage. If its in slot 1 or 3, can't boot at all, in slot 5 the spd that shows up is Canon? I read somewhere that this spd was on there and not to worry?? Anyway, is there anyway to flash DDR3? Could I try and reflash the bad stick with the spd from one of the working sticks? When is this new Samsung hitting the market?
Edit....stick in slot 3 now acting up, sometimes there, sometimes not.

10 of the sets died in use during the first 1-2 weeks of use. These were running at 1.65v and had never pushed beyond 1.7v. 5 of the sets were just DOA junk that newegg continued to send out in open packages from previous other RMA's.
2.) Did you stress it a lot? (memtest/orthos/gaming)
I usually stressed them with memtest right when I got them to see what sort of timings each was capable of producing. They would all die during regular use surfing xs and crunching. 1 set actually died during my installation of W7.
3.) How did the memory die? Idle, load, reboot?
Most died in regular use.
4.) What exactly happened? freeze, errors, crash, system turned off, system rebooted, blue screen, black screen
BSOD most of the time, the pc would just lock up. When trying to reboot, it would get to the windows logo and BSOD over and over.

Rampage II Extreme and Evga Classified 759. All flavors of bios.

1740mhz, 7-7-7-20-1t 1.65v
Usually these sets were all capable when I got them of running 2000mhz at 7-8-7-20-1t with between 1.65v to 1.70v.

All of these were kingston hyperx 3x2gb sets. Since this whole issue is a production date related problem with elpida chips, the kingston sets that came in the cardboard boxes early on do not have these issues. Way back when andre ordered 10 sets from the egg, they had the cardboard boxes. I got one of those sets and they ran fine for months. I was the first to get the new plastic package ones from the egg, and those were the sets when the issues started. Ever since then, every set of kingstons have had problems, although nowadays, most are just DOA because newegg doesn't have any new sets left to send anyone, just recycled RMA junk. Usually the stick in DIMM5 was the one that failed on me, don't know why. I did make mix match sets of ram though after the single sticks would die, and those living sticks seemed to be unaffected and they were strong as the day I bought them. I never had 2 sticks from a set die, every set only had 1 that would die.

Hey Killer K, I think you mistook VTT for VMEM.
If you were running 1.65V VTT your chip would have likely crapped out before the modules did :D
IIRC 1.65 is spec'ed VTT for the 2000C7's...dunno about Kingston. I think it's somewhat dangerous as well though.

Intel CPUs are pretty resilient. i seriously cant recall CPU deaths in Nehalem range on these forums (Aside form that freak death in GOOC :rofl: and Andre saying FF mean CPU dead recently in Michigan)

Pretty sure. I was told they were and I did open them up and am pretty sure I saw the Elpida logo on it.
heat could have something to do with it, but i sort of doubt it.... at least if they die again this time i will be sure it wasnt heat, they now have 2 fans, and im currently running them all at 2000 mhz on 1.64 volts.. . which at the moment is below spec voltage of 1.65 +- 5 percent or something

1600's are not going to be Elpida.
