the funny thing is there are probably people out there who do the exact opposite (having little to no experience then claiming to be an expert - I have seen them on places like the Nvidia forums, you guys probably remember that). Even going so far as to give out quantum physics formulas that are not even applicable hoping to wow everyone with brilliance when we all see the brown turds smothering every post. LOL. Good times.
***disclaimer: not referencing what I am not supposed to talk about, since now everyone micro-analyzes everything I post looking for ANY possible reference, get a life and get off my back folks
mcoffey your rig is pretty wild. Where do you see yourself on the H20 builder scale?
Can you delineate pro modder vs pro LC'er or so you see a distinction? Do you see the LC setup as integral to the mod? This is of particular interest to me as I get shot down in the modding community when I try to stress paying attention to the function and performance of the build as equal to the appearance which means LCing as almost a must for a higher-level build (not just vanilla LCing either but pushing the envelope stuff like your build or extremely well executed stuff like Coolermeister or Malik's stuff just to name a few . . .and NO, my stuff CLEARLY does not fall into this class, I am just another n00b who happens to excel at marketing).
I think the pro has to excel in the case mod, originality and a well executed and thought out LC system.
apply those categories to Andy's recent build:
-Incredibly functional and outstanding loop setup.
-No casemod, used the mountainmods out of necessity.
I think that builds like andy's fall into a parallel but equal category to the best of the best mods because obviously he could not do what he did in a modded lian-li, but at the same time he was extremely efficient with his space in conception and execution.
like how you come straight out and attack. show your true colors. Funny thing is I never claimed to be a pro. That is the title others have tacked onto me but I do not want. As I said I am probably the best here at marketing what I do pull of which includes pulling together varying skill sets. If you want to try to deny that just look at my list of sponsors. There in lies the jealousy so many exhibit. Imagine if I had your skills what I could pull off ;)
You can continue to slam me all you want bud, I will still give you respect for your work and will not treat you the same way.
actually under the definition DB would be considered a pro.
a Pro is also one who gets major vendors to sponsor you on build for there advertisement.. (DB has a godly selection of NDA stuff)
I dont like the title avid hobbiest andy..
Can we call our class enthusiast? (because we'll go allmost all out on that perfect build?)
I believe thats what they call our niche in the computer market as well.
OK let's ease up guys. OK. Easy man. I think we're splitting hairs on words here. This is the Internet, and you cannot hear the empahsis on words, and their intent sometimes through wirtten words verses spoken words.
A pro gets paid. That's pretty much it. That doesn't in any way belittle the people who are highly skilled and don't get paid. They are just as valued. I used to design, and test rocket motors for a living, but now I do it as a hobby. I still get paid, but I'm semi-retired. I don't really do it for the money anymore, so i don't consider myself a pro eventhough others might. I do it and basically cover my costs to give back to that hobby what it gave to me when I was very young. I try to support the hobby.
It's the same way here. I respect the people here who do these amazing builds. Guys, please...nobody is insulting naybody here. We're talking about Xtreme Systems that are Xtreme for every definition of the word. Be proud of that.
Whether somebody is a pro or not, or a new person (don't like the word n00b), everybody has something to add to this forum. Everybody should be proud of what they have here, and be grateful for it. I mean, how mnay people actually do this kind of stuff? Not many. Everybody that does this loves it, or they wouldn't mess with it. You have to love it and enjoy it to take the time to learn how to do this stuff right, and put water in close proximity to electricity.
Let's all get along. There are only a couple 1000 of us. :)
i'll never be pro, i don't want to lose my amateur eligibility.
I am sure it is all clear to most people here bud. Plain and clear. Thanks ;)
So to get this back on a good note: I really was hoping to see some common ground with you about the LC and modding thing since that is one thing I want to have the modding community in general agree on.
I think the problem is we all seem to be A type personalities as least the more vocal of us. If we were in person we would probably all be friendly at least to each other (at least the ones who survived) ;) As I said, I have nothing for respect for McCoffey and his work. I understand respect is earned and not given so someday hopefully I will gain his (if I can ever learn wire management damn it and maybe less bling and more zing). Anyways, he is teaching me big time with his current project. If he decides to market himself he could easily get sponsorships and probably even get paid for doing killer builds.
That's me too. I'v got a splitting headache and am sitting here with the hair of the Dog that bit me lastnight, and don't wanna tie one on again like I did lastnight. So, please don't drive T_Flight to drinking. :D
