I wouldn't say that.

I take it the 3800 series clock down in 2D mode to save power right? I don't think the 8800GT is capable of this, I believe the 2D and 3D clocks are the same.
This may explain why the 3800 has much better idle power consumption, but is around 8800GT levels under load.
However, anyone with a 8800GT can use a 3rd party program to set seperate 2D/3D clocks, which should bring the idle power way down.
so basically put there is no point in taking water to these.
one thing that hasnt been mentioned is the possible driver improovements that could occur with this card the 2900 saw massive improvements from release day
but thinking about isnt the arch very similar to 2900 and therefore driver improvements wont help that much?
Any european shop with <150€ for 3850 256?
MoTiG,
There are some:
http://geizhals.at/eu/?fs=hd3850+256...n+&in=&x=0&y=0
yep, but it's mostly unavaliable except from alternate.de, selling at 169€ :(
It actually aint much lower. Those sites showing it is basicly a i680 vs P35 load. Huge difference.
So when actually testing it on the same board...

At stock settings the 3870 CF is a more viable option with current intel MBs.
good to know ;)
Just received my two 3870 from NCIX ... and my friend received is two GT ... He just suddenly when sick and I just used my free day off to bench those babies ... :)
Will keep you posted ...
Those scores are impressive for a dual core too, even if they are 4GHz considering a quad gets a ton more points w/ 3dMark06
Need some benches voltaire2030!

Hmm.. very interesting to see 3870 actually beat the 8800GT in Crysis: http://www.hexus.net/content/item.ph...=10415&page=11
Is it because of the 64-bit OS? Will be interesting to see 3870 Crysis XF with the hotfix now.

Does it perform better in games though? 3dmark isn't the best judge of character for these kind of things.
