Not much you can do about the ones on the back really... I've just ordered 8 copper heat-sinks I'm going to stick on to the ones on the top. It can't hurt!Quote:

I couldn't fit a dangerden maze 4 chipset block under my 6800 ultra...
I've just left the msi chipset cooler on and used some artic silver.
k thanks ..
also one more question
im about to order some ram for this board ..
the ram to get i guess is the
ocz pc3200 EL platinum rev2 ?? that along with a ddr booster ??
look here guys: http://www.lejabeach.com/MSIK8N/k8nneo2.html a new official 1.4 bios is out?? but it's not listed at the MSI page? any1 alrdy tried it?
jetjaguar
I am not a big guru around OCZ memory, but if I remember correctly the EL is CH-5 or some other useless crap like that. The booster is a good idea, though.
Th3__W00T_GuY__
Are you sure that's right? They have previous bios release saying "Support Sempr0n 1800+" - uh wtf is that :stick:
ocz pc3200 EL platinum rev2 is TCCD :p
i went with the vx .. and the booster

No more 18% as per the 1.36b & a few minor changes here & there but nothing special.
On the aircooled rig it's doing alright..
On my Vapo? well I ain't sure whether it's that cold bug or not but everytime I manage to install Windows & then start off with the drivers, I get freezes & then I have to manually reset my rig.
Sometimes when I have to reset my rig I'm confronted with this:
"System config blah blah blah is not there" please press "R" when installing windows to try & repair this...
Ouch... that error sucks dude... I hope for your sake you use Norton Ghost?Quote:

Mikee1de
I think 1.36 beta is pretty good on the CPU voltage side.
In the 1.4 Official i found this secret Options:
AGP Sideband Address
NV/ATI Speed Up
PCI Clock Auto Detect
What are you using for the options?
True... but you can also use CoreCenter for that ;)Quote:

Now it's no problem to start up @ default :toast:
btw I must get rid of this 0409... I'll go get a 0411
Couldn't even get to that part.Quote:

Reboot & I'm confronted with that dreaded "your XP install is farked" please reinstall XP & press "R" & maybe that'd fix your problems...
If I had the cold issues (where the mobo will not even boot) , my mobo/cpu wouldn't even start iirc.
WTF am i doing wrong??
Gonna try the new 1.5X beta bios to see if it fixes anything..
I'll be back
Minnyboy
@all
could you please tell me how the OCZ DDR Booster works and where i can buy it?
Beware!!!
1.5X bios is no good for aircooled machines.
Updated my bios last night & am confronted with a borked OS...
"I'm confronted with that dreaded "your XP install is farked" please reinstall XP & press "R" & maybe that'd fix your problems..."
Repaired XP but still no good
Gotta try & do a full reinstall yet again..
even trying to go back to the 1.36b or 1.4 official is no good...
Have yet to try it on my phase-change system but I don't think I'm about to give it a shot after this problem...
OS was working very smoothly until I updated to that 1.5X bios...
Even using phase-change, I recommend that you back up your rig before trying it out just in case the same thing happens to you...
then again, this problem might be just related to aircooled rigs & not phase-change.
Proceed at you own peril.
Again, this is just my experience with this bios.
Cheers,
Minnyboy
Lol! Something is really wrong with the Winchester + MSI combination!
There are so many different problems all over the internet .. One of this
two manufacters really make something wrong there ...!
Earlier MSI's or all MSI's ;)
All! Thats just luck! Had nothing to do with the nb-date or something else! ;)
I have an 0409 and it works perfect, better then much other Neo2s i've seen!
And i'm not the only one ... Others with 0411 boards and 0435+ nb have really hard problems
to get something stable!
are the later week msi k8n's starting to suck?
i thought they get better with time not worse?!
above post looks pessimistic so i ask this.
I boot 300+ with the newest revision. It's a korea board though.
IT's past 440a2, as that is taiwan, and I could only hit 290 htt with that.
viccyran
You couldn't get above 290 on the Taiwan board with the chipset voltage maxed out?
Arnt people with the Giga Byte NF boards haveing the same type problems with Winnies ? Seems like I read in some thread that they were.Quote:

What are the max VCores for the new BIOSes (1.41mod, 1.5x, 1.51)?!
I am kinda "stuck" @ 1.55V +10% (1.700V) with my 1.41 Bios.
Cant you make it 1.55 + 18%?Quote:

Quick question what's MSI's official warranty stance of boards returned/rma'd with black plate glue having been pryed off ???
Actually, the back plate is "double sided sticky taped" on... so when you pull off the backplate, keep it in a safe place and put it back on there if you have to return/rma. shouldn't be an issue at all... the tape comes off with the back plate and is reusable... :)Quote:

Any BGA ramsinks for videocards should fit ;)
Am i the only one that cant get agp cards to work with this board :O ?
Other than that it works pretty good accually :)
Murmlos
You got a fup'ed board. RMA/replace it ;)
wanted to update, I've been keeping my FX at stock for now, I've been using the 1.51 bios and I beleive its most likely my cpu maxing out but I'd like to know if anyone else is using an fx53 here, also here is my cpu spec:
http://intenseghetto.com/o/albums/mods/amd/dsc02108.jpg
uniacid,
it looks like more people have a similar cpu

What is the BEST bios for achieving HIGH HTT? 300x3 is not stable.
Hmm, 1000 is standard, why is it not stable? Try the 1.3b6!
I just received and tested my 0412, superb!!
Finally no more memory errors @ 260 with my BH-5
Now if I can bench 10x280... :D
sigh if only I could go above 2.6 :/
2 out of 3 boards of mine are FUBARed,
1st board had 2 smd resistors fall off from near the cpu.
That happened while changing CPU's. I did not put any pressure on those smd resistors. They were so badly soldered on that as soon as they were touched by accident, they fell off.
2nd board has 3 faulty dimm slots.
Using a 3200+ 0441, I tested using only 1 dimm & only slot 1 works. As soon as I place the same dimm in any of the other slots, my rig beeps its head off..
Funny thing is I had memtest running 20 hours+ @ 250MHz 1:1 (slots 1&2) & booster in slot4 & it ran fine. WTF??
Thinking it was a 90nm problem, I put in my 3500+ NewCastle & straight away got those damn beeps...
MSI have a good board if it's been through their Quality Testing Procedure . The only good board I have is the one I'm typing this on...
Still wondering why dual channel runs memtest fine but single channel beeps it's head off. Also, although dual channel ran fine, as soon as winxp loads up; it's only a matter of minutes before I get the infamous BSOD or my rig just freezes on me...
Oh well, looks like MSI are gonna be getting 2 of their "Platinum" Editions back .

I was running 1.36b when I said it's not stable. I am trying 1.37mod now.
How can u tell if your motherboard is having a problem with the powersupply? the reason i say this is because i think mine does. It detects certain things on the motherboard everytime i reboot, and if i change around the power connectors to the hardware it will detect new items...
also has anyone had problems with this power supply?
X-Connect 500W and the neo i plan to get this if it is indeed my psu.
donnydorko
I am not sure what you mean - can you be more specific?!
Well basically everytime i reboot it will detect new hardware, even though it was detected before. Always something different, alot of the onboard features get detected such as the onboard lan, or sound ect randomly.
Also i get this random beeping noise in windows at random times, a good amount of times... It makes the noise of disconnect device / connect device even though it doenst pop up any message. I even changed the noise in sounds in control panel and it will play that sound instead everytime . So i know windows is for some reason detecting something new...
Any help :D
Sounds like a driver issue to me. Just disable ALL the onboard stuff you are not using in the bios and install 5.10 drivers after a clean install of windows.
What bios, BTW?
1.3 can u link me too those drivers please?
I want to flash my current BIOS (1.3), to the official 1.41 I downloaded from Chralie's thread over "Best Of AMD". But when I press the Live Update, an Explorer window shows up and nothing happens (adressbar shows - "file:///c:/Program%20Files/MSI/Live%20Update%203/MSI.htm") :(
What should I do flash it (I DON'T have a floppy!) so I can start my tweaks?! :(
And there are any other 1.41? beta/official/mod? if so can some1 link me?
Thanks in advnace.
Best regards,
Swing
did you use this prog?
1.41 is a beta bios.Quote:
C:\Program Files\MSI\Live Update 3\FlashUty\Award\WinFlash.exe
Just execute and select bios... wait one minute, reboot and you're done
There also is a modded 1.41 bios.
Take a look here
Jack, we need more people like you in our forums  :toast: :D ;)
So which bios will be better? 1.40 official, 1.41 beta or 1.41 mod?
Thanks in advance.
i'm just glad i can help others out :)
but i don't know which bios is better.
I'm currently running 1.36 since it seems to work nice with my BH-5.
just flash one of those 3 biosses and test which one works best :)
In 1.41mod, do the voltage options above 10% work?
bachus_anonym found a way to raise Vcore to 1.78V max, no matter what bios. :)
1.41 Beta mod bios, anyone try it?
Hi!
Some Neo2 settings question, BIOS @ 1.4:
Sideband Adressing - On/Off?
FastWrites - On/Off?
Spread Spectrum - On/Off?
LDT Multi @ 5x/4x/3x?
Dynamic OCing - On/Off?
Cool&Quiet - On/Off?
And it seems that I can't enter the Advanced options.
I press SHIFT+F2 for few secs, then ALT+F3 and nothing happens.
The red blank goes from Cell menu to "Standart Bios Features".
Thanks in advance, :D

Yes I read it
But I just want to be sure before I change anything,
Also I don't know what BIOS ver. those Tips are regarding, the optimal settings can be different from ver. to ver. As for the hidden options... It really didn't work for me.
bachus_anonym
Jack
OK, sounds good ;) I have to say, stability is much better with CoreCenter now. MSI is working on it.
Very nice thread! Thanks!
hey guys,
just read through the entire 31 pages. took about 45 min.. :)
sooo.. just went to monarch and ordered me a k8n neo2, 3500+ winchester, zalman 7000B-AlCu, and ddr booster. what bios should I give a shot first? 1.36b??
/goes off to read the entire "S939 mobos - known bugs, tweaks and fixes" thread
im trying to get the damn raid to work. WHY ISN"T IT WORKING!!!!!!!!!
Yeah do that. Otherwise just use the latest official 1.4 bios & once you're into Windows, then use Core Center to adjust voltages up to 1.76v-1.8v for Winnies..Quote:

i got a 0412, flashed to 1.36 but my ocz vx is broke so now im going to have to wait for an RMA.
In the hidden options:
DRAM Drive Strength (???) - Should I leave it Off/On?
PCI Auto Detect - On/Off?
Thanks! :banana4:
One more question:
Which bios will be better - 1.36BETA or 1.36Mod?

Thanks, but what does DRAM Drive Strength do?
You might want to try giving a new BIOS a shot. That can definately fix overclocking errors like you described. 1.36b seems to be a very good one, take a look at it.
As for the 6800, I can't help ya there. :(
Silly did you read the first post of this topic?
Several usefull tips there :)
Did you disable Aggresive Timings?
What serialnumber is your mobo?
And you can always try some other drivers for the vga,
maybe that'll help :)
I have PC4800 TCCD. Problem is that I can only boot my computer at 300fsb, with one memory installed, if i try 2 memorys it won´t boot.
The motherboard is instable at 280fsb with 2 momorys installed.
Have tried several different timings, voltage and so on.
Try sticking that ram in the first 2 slots closest to the cpu. They are different colors, one green one purple... It should boot. :) and be dual channel ;)Quote:

Bad with my bh6´s
I can run at 1T only around 210mhz and around 240 2T with booster 3,4-3,7v. Tried bios 1.36 and 1.37 but cant pass this, any Tips?...
1:1 means running synchronous
RAM fequency:fsb frequency
example: RAM=200Mhz (DDR400) : fsb=200Mhz
is what people call 1:1
(ASUS makes is more correct and more difficult to understand as they call it in their bios 2:1, DDR400:fsb200)
ClockGen doesn't work with the MSI ?
http://www.cpuid.com/download/CG-ICS950403.zip
Cant have the clock menu :(
And can i have a link for the 1.3x bios, i cant run my BH at 2/2/2/5
So is mine is not running 1:1 then ? and is 1:1 better or just more balance and stable ?Quote:

From your experience, by how much the K8N Neo2 undervolt? Does it change from BIOS to BIOS? Also, I want to know which value I should put in "AGP Aparture Size", my card is 6800GT and currently it's 256MB.
Thanks! :D
mine under volts BAD!!! at 1.55v and 5.0% over vid i get a mere 1.552v?? im going to try diff bioses but i dont expect it to help much right now im using the 1.41 bios...
peace perc,
Neo2 do not undervolts! The max. settings u can use in Bios is 1,475 + x%!
Anything higher then 1,475V do not work, and switch back to the 1,475V!
As for ur example : 1,475 + 5% = 1,548V
Under load the Neo2 even overvolt a bit! Idle 1,600V Load 1,616V , for
example.
:)
