Returned the Pro3 and got the Fatal1ty. Was considering UD4 but Asrock is bang for buck with features that the more expensive mobos have.

For the sound issue, try throwing a aluminium / copper HS on the sound chip, it'll help eliminate electronic cross-talk.
Any chance that skin can be changed? It looks like something out of the 80s :p:
Personally, I would return the fatality and get the Extreme6. Extreme6 has 99.9% the same stuff as the fatality with the added bonus on using better cooling (read: more efficient), is considerably cheaper, and you don't have to look at that ugly mug every time you go into the UEFI. IMO, the Extreme6 is just a better board and a better choice.
A small update for all of you eagerly awaiting it; I've been in touch with my Asrock contact and many of the devices you've all reported as having problems in the top USB3 ports at the back of the board are being looked into. We will get to the cause of the problem
http://tof.canardpc.com/preview2/cd4...bcc70cdcf5.jpg
Typo ... Fata1ty ... :D
hehe :D, indeed, but it is Asrock's original F-Stream Skin and i like it to stay that way :p for proprietary reasons ;) (i may try at a later time to use the AXTU's skin, no promise though)
some true, some false
indeed the differences between these 3 top asrock m/b are in terms of onboard devices.
Extreme4 => 8 vrm phases + 8 sata
Extreme6=> 16 vrm phases + 10 sata
Fatal1ty=> 16 vrm phases + 10 sata + 1 EIDE
to me, the last part in bold was the reason i bought it (no other high end p67 m/b exists with EIDE. Sure it's questionable if the IDE addition justifies the price premium.. To my eyes its more clear decision to select fatal1ty vs the other 2(only for that reason), the Extreme6 is the one difficult to choose as except the 8 vrm phases its identical to Extreme4 in terms of onboard devices (2 more sata, 1 lan, 2 usb3 more).A "Extreme4+" with IDE addition could have saved me some bucks :S. As for the cooling, allow me to disagree, beside the fancy logo and fatal1ty's sign :p, its cooling is sufficient + the mount mechanism with screws, instead of push-pins.
--------------------------
I started searching around for the DTS connect option, and following this post, i dont find any solid evidence that these two board have license for DD encode/decode... more of a marketing gimmick..
Asus Description :
"DTS
DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC
DTS Surround Sensation UltraPC delivers exceptional 5.1 surround experience through the most common PC audio setups - your existing stereo speakers or headphones. In addition to virtual surround, “Bass enhancement” provides stronger low frequency bass sound, and “Voice clarification” provides clear human dialogue even with loud background sound. With these technologies, you may experience a better home-theater audio with ease."
it's essential the same as TruStudio Pro (which in fact has the same effects like XFi-MB soundcard had some asus and msi m/b some time ago, with crystaliser and CMSS3D)
Gigabyte :
"Dolby Home Theater® - Enjoy a Rich Home Theater Surround Sound Experience
Dolby Home Theater® places listeners in the middle of the action, giving their PCs a powerful set of tools to deliver a cinema-style experience in vivid surround sound.
Delivers vivid surround sound for music, movies, and games, using two to eight speakers or any set of headphones
Designed to automatically deliver the best possible listening experience"
these two descriptions are carefully formed, as they do not contain any DTS connect, DDL, DD encode/decode words. Reading here and here i see i don't need it right now, CMSS3D/THX TruStudio Pro Surround is what i need in CoD2 :D, and that works just ok (along with alchemy)
@Olivon , nice eye :D:up:
this typo exists even in original F-Stream and hadn't noticed, i may try to correct later
I'll do this bullet style to keep the post short :p:
1. Thats why I said the Extreme6 is 99.9% the same as the Fatality ;) I don't have a single IDE device anymore, and I'm pretty sure most other people don't either. You still save money by getting the Extreme6 then buying a SATA DVD-RW drive : Not to mention I do genuinely believe the Extreme6 to be a far superior board to the Fatality.
2. The mounting used on the Extreme4/6 are screws as well ;) Its just the PCH that uses pushpins (a odd decision I know)
3. The cooling on the Extreme4/6 is far better because its actually designed to dissipate heat and not trap it like the "cooling" will do on the Fatality board. If you want more details earlier in this thread I went into more specifics about thermodynamics and what makes a good heatsink
4. DTS is a very nice feature to have, I remember using it on my 1988B CODEC on the very first Crosshair board, it worked like a charm and made a lot of things sound great has DTS has more low end than THX or Prologic does  Its why I'd like to add it with a unofficial driver if I ever find the time to sit down and look things over properly.
DTS connect, DDL doesnt rely on driver i think.. as trustudio worked like charm even with 2.58 from realtek's site. It's the license that need for creative's trustudio app (and earlier, with x-fi mod on AD1988 i used) that matters, and i suppose the same applies to DTS connect licensing.
as for the 3), you seriously need to revise :p (at least on heat-trap :p), i haven't disassembled extreme4/6's cooling solution to check how much dissipation surface they have, but even if they do have larger, there is no problem at all in fatal1ty, as the heatsink fins are "open to the air" without a cover plate that actually traps heat, and only needed (like on 3 MBs) is a slow 12cm fan on rear case, to move the heat from vrm (which is low to be honest - ~90watt reported from aida64 during prime95 avx 8 threads at 4.2/1.2v, combine it with its digital pwm, should be how much? ~5?~10? watt wasted due to not 100% efficiency, not big deal ;) )
The cover plates easily peel off on Extreme4/6 VRM heatsinks, and under there is some seriously meaty heatsinkage. Oh and no, the thick "fins" on the Fatality board are not efficient. Part of a good heatsink design is many, thin fins. Not the heat-trap style cooling the Fatality uses ;) Heres some heatsink :banana::banana::banana: :p:
See now THATS a VRM heatsink!
@Ket, I would have gone extreme6 easily, but it's not readily available in my country. I suspect because of the pullout of B2 versions but what do I know? Hehe.. It was either the Fatal1ty or Asus P8P67 LE, and I'm not really familiar with that version. UD7 is too expensive, and I'm not going the buy Asus P67 Sabertooth lol. I thought there was a modded bios that erased Fatal1ty's face on the UEFI?
And I'm not using the onboard audio, I'm using an old but reliable XiFi Xtreme Gamer. :)
I've just checked my mail again guys and Asrock have now got at least some of the devices on hand that are reportedly causing problems and R&D are sinking their teeth into the problem as I type :up: As I know more information I'll let you all know. If you are having problems with the TOP USB3 ports at the BACK of your Asrock Extreme4/6 or Fatality please try the following;
- Download and install the EtronTech EJ168 v.1.00.0000.0098 driver
- Try the device again
- If theres still problems with the device in the TOP USB3 ports on the back of the board move the device to another USB3 port
If problems persist or the device works correctly when moved to another USB3 port please send me a PM telling me the device which has problems in the TOP USB3 ports at the back of the board, or in the case of the device working correctly when moved to a different USB3 port on the board please tell me which USB3 port the device functions properly in.
Oh I didn't quite mean it like that ;) The Fatality is a fine board, I'm just pointing out that from a cooling standpoint the cooling used on the Fatality is very much for "bling", and it won't provide optimal cooling performance like the heatsinks on the Extreme4/6 will. Then theres of course the ugly mug you have to endure with the UEFI on the Fatality, I can't remember a single review where the reviewer didn't bring that up as one of the biggest "problems" with the UEFI lol.
Yeah, I'm gonna spend a lot of time tweaking the UEFI. Hey, just unfocus your eyes and Fatal1ty's face will be a blur, ala Depth of Field lol...
About the cooling: I hope it won't be too much of a factor... I think the mobo temp sensor in FSteam is 1degree hotter than the Pro3... Let see if it can give me a better overclock than the Pro3 with lesser voltage. :)
I choose Extreme4 instead of Extreme6 because you can't insert long PCI-E cards into the first PCI-E 1x slot of the Extreme6.
I have replaced my HDD enclosure with a Raidsonic Icy Box IB-250StU3-B, Asmedia ASM1051 chipset. (Same as papatsonis has.) No issues with this device.
I'm thinking that the device with JMicron chipset could have caused the stalling (mentioned in previous posts). Using this device might have affected also the other ports, not only the one to which it was connected.
While we're on about cooling how about this for the PCH?
I know that you dismissed 54mm spacing but this also does 59mm too

Fatal1ty allowed me UEFI tweaking much better than the Pro3.. Vcore is better and my cpu is much cooler despite my V8 lol

Gonna test it more later, I had to sleep because that was 2am :)
^^there's little point running IBT (to test max heat??) on sandybridge unless you've applied W7 SP1 and updated to intel AvX instruction set.
Else just run Prim95 Blend for 2-3hours.
I've W7 sp1 and I don't know about the intel avx instruction set, gotta read up on it first.
Yup, I'll just run Prime and if everything's ok I'm gonna go for higher clocks.
edit: these tests prevents me from playing my steam games! oh well, overclocking is a game also
Install W7 SP1.
Download the pack here:-
http://software.intel.com/en-us/arti...pack-download/
The unpack and swap the linpack_xeon64 with the one in your IBT software. Just replace and rename for what IBT expects. So for me was it was swapping the new pack into IBT/lindata/x64/Linpack64.
And watch the TEMPS!
That should do fine. I used the Evercool gpu chipset cooler that I had previously on my Expert board. The pins on the Evercool match up well with the holes on the E4. I used MX-2 paste and the Evercool keeps the PCH very cool. I do not need to use the fan on the Evercool. The Evercool does not even get hot to the touch, unlike the stock solution. I measured the E4 PCH hole spacing and it's 2-1/8" or 50.8 mm.
I've had a chat with a few of my contacts at Asrock and so far R&D can't duplicate the problems you guys are saying you are having with your USB devices, so heres what I'm going to do; Below is a list I've compiled of devices people have reported as being problematic, fixed, or potentially problematic. If your device is listed in the problematic or potentially problematic sections can you make a post telling me what device is causing a problem, its model number, and as clear and as detailed problem description as possible.
Likewise, if the Etron v0.98 driver fixes your device problems and those devices are listed under the problematic / potentially problematic sections can you please post saying your device is now fixed so I can update the list.

hey guys...
any tips for new overclocker with this board :)
Check my settings.

You may have to play a little bit with offset that fits yours particular CPU.
Do i need to set 1st desired fixed voltage and then offset ?
10x in advance.
No. Either use LLC4 with offset voltage or LLC2 with fixed voltage.
One more thing just to ensure i have figured it out:
Raising positive offset is lowering vcore and on the contrary, rising negative offset is rising the vcore ?
10x in advance.
In fact, it's directly opposite.
No.
1,328 is result of VID + offset.
Basically VID +/- offset = vCore
Is the difference between VTT and DIMM voltage of <0.45 a myth in SB platform.
Or a reality ?
myth
wish came true :p:

Guys, does anyone has noticed problems with USB 3.0 HDD cases and the problematic USB 3.0 ports on the back of the board ?
@ket no need to mess with driver editing (for Trustudio Pro) , as it seems, all generic drivers work ok, you just need the THX Trustudio Pro RC1 from asrock's site, which worked fine, you just need to activate it(included in zip)
also, keep an eye here ;)
for now i haven't found any activator/license for asus's X-FI MB2, which adds EAX5.0
edit : if it installs correctly (mine couldn't get licensed..), theoretically in AIDA64 you should see in OpenAL, up to EAX4.0 (not emulated)
@radier,
do you touch theadvanced tab. I mean C1 c3 c6 EIST etc. what are you enabling and what are you disabling?!
for now my 2600K is +0.05 Offset LLC2 4.6GHz 8gb ram
Enable all.
I just purchased another 4 gig of memory for a total of 8 Gig. I am using the Extreme4, with the i2500k. The ram are GSkill Ripjaws 2133 Cas 7. I cannot get past the bios screen when all 8 gig are inserted. When everything is set in bios, it just tries multiple reboots, then goes into the bios screen. Please help!!!!!!!!!!
There's a reason memory manufacturers sell memory as kits..
Its pot luck getting two 4gb kits to run as 8gb (at max ratings). Assuming its only the memory that's at issue (you're booting at default bios settings?) ramp down the speed/timings and find the best they'll do together.
Otherwise consider selling the kits separately and buying a manufacturer's 'matched 8gb kit'. You'd be better off with x2 4gb dimms anyway.
Any tips on getting windows 7 to see my marvel data raid?
I stripped down the PC to route some cables for my new Xonar Dx and since rebooting it refuses to see my non os data raid. Usually a few reboot as it shows up, do I need to run some drivers off the CD? I've cleared the CMOS and tried just about every thing in the bios. Every thing is on ACHI the raid itself is always on the marvel ports. Is there a boot key to get into the Marvel controller?
/cheers
hi all..
i should be getting the xtreme4 + 2400 processor ...
is there anything i should look out for ?
On Fatal1ty download page latest driver for Marvell SATA3 controller is available:
Marvell SATA3 driver ver:1.2.0.1002
LINK
Looks exactly the same as my P67 :p: :D I still won't get a Z68 though unless there is a way to use the on-die GPU for physics, its the only thing that would make getting a Z68 worthwhile.
Oh, and whoever said it; you can OC a 2400 its just "limited" to 4 speed bins above its clock frequency.
Guys, I've just realized that my Extreme 4 AXTU fan controlling doesnt work at all, no matter what level I tried in the setting, my CPU fan speed(1+2) + chassis fan 1-3 RPM still remain unchanged. I'm using 1.5 Bios, is there any difference with BIOS setting ? I need more airflow for my case (HAF922), I've 6 fans totally, 4 connected to the mobo (Cpu and chassis).
Also, do you think the mobo fan headers provide sufficient power to those fans ? cause I think they run at quite slow speed, do I need to get a separate fan controller for higher RPM ?
I'm using latest SpeedFan beta and I can control my 2 fans (CPU 2 and chassis one).
Thx buddy, do you know anyway to add more fan controller to speedfan since it only has 3 ?
I have a feeling that some chassis fans are tied together to one speed so changing one speed will affect two (ore more) chassis fans.
I cannot try that because I don't need more fans in my case. :)
As you see I'm fanless, so I use CPU2 3 pin fan header for a case fan non-PWM just to be sure that my MB doesn't warn me about no CPU fan attached at every boot. :)
I had already bought the motherboard, havn bought the processor yet..
Hmmm.. wait , i go see whether I can squeeze in more cash into the budget to buy at least a 2500K.
anything else I need to look out for ?
but I wont be overclocking that high... at most 4ghz should be enough for me. which processor is suitable for me.. new to this kind of processor.
Anybody here experienced a debug 45 code? I can't seem to run my gskills in dual channel now. If I put them in the black ram slots the pc just hangs and displays code 45. This is after installing a venomous x but I haven't even used the pressure plates yet! What gives? :(
Does anyone know or has already tried to run an Intel Xeon E3 (for example 1230 or 1240) on an Asrock P67 mainboard??
On some H67 boards it does run but I would be interested to run it on my Extreme4....
so if u guys dont mind me asking....if someone were to build a new rig for gaming and wanted to "future proof"..is the extreme 6 worth the extra money over the extreme 4? thank you
If you only want 4GHz, the 2400 will let you have that easily.
Black DIMM slots? The Extreme boards have white and blue DIMM slots..
No idea, if you already have it, try it :D
Extreme 4 will give you everything you need. Only reason to get the Extreme 6 would be for the 2 extra SATA ports, and e-peen rights if you just want to say you have a 16-phase mobo. Do remember if you opt for the Extreme 6 you can't use a full length PCI-E card in the top PCI-E slot (which is why I went for the Extreme 4)
wow thanks...that was quick! thanks!
Hi! Have asked at other forums this and nothing have helped. When i boot up my comp it goes to bios logo screen where u can choose do u want go to bios or to windows, its open about 30sec every time and its enoying.
Have done:
-reset cmos
-bios updates
-bios settings
-usb things (all kind of)
Nothing have helped... eny ideas?
Extreme 4 + 2500k + hyperX grey 2133 + gtx 560
Thanks
Edit: Oh and when it does do that it gives code 05 on dr. debug.
Going to need more details and better English than that to get a good idea of whats happening :p:
Sry bad english^^ :P
So when i start my compurer it stays 30sec`s at this screen:
http://www.asrock.com/news/events/201102ex/IDB3-3.png
And when it stays there, on motherboard is that dr.debug light and it says codes 05 and 06.
Do u now get it? :P
I believe that he means that the post screen (where the asrock logo is showing) is on for 30secs without doing anything, right? And jiiper, was it so that when you OCed your chip, the post screen was showing only for a few seconds (as it should be)? I don't even have this board yet, so I can't help, but hopefully Ket, or somebody else, can!
Ok, with pictorial aid and a translator (eGGe86) :D you are saying the board doesn't continue to POST for 30 seconds after turning it on, right? Firstly I would advise updating the UEFI 1.6 (if it isn't already) and if it already has 1.6 update to UEFI 1.62 (see first page) also, what is your full system specs? By what I can tell, the board is taking its time detecting your optical drives and/or HDDs, so it would be worth checking all connections and if possible using different cables in case you have a SATA cable going bad or something.
full spec at signature and have already 1.62 bios...
Ok ill check connectors soon and tell u what happened :P
An thanks for helping to translate my english :P
Ok, checking your sig the only couple things that stand out is I've never heard of "Cougar", so your PSU might be a factor. The other thing is the intel SSD, have you checked it to make sure its functioning properly?
psu should be good (what i have heard) and yes ssd is running fine.
Hmmm... Feeling kind a lucky today^^ First thing i tried and its working.
My cd-rom drive was "faulty" or something? took it off and now its running fine.
Looks like i need to buy new one.
Thanks for helping ket :P
Ok, just the link would have been fine, no need for a mega-collossal-big picture :) http://hw-lab.com/intel-updates-chipset-roadmap.html
"Users willing to have Ivy Bridge based system will have a choice between motherboards based on Z77, Z75 or H77 chipsets. First two will replace Z68 and P67, while H77 will take H67 place targeted to masses."
So Z77 and Z75 is Ivy Bridge and will replace Z68 and P67. Ok
@ket, I'm using the fatal1ty board.
Yet another surprise. I read in another forum that Asrock has confirmed, that PCIe RAID Controllers are not supported on Asrock P67.
Is this a general Intel P67 problem, or is this concerning only the Asrock P67 motherboards?
Cougar series should be HEC's high-end retail units. Decent PSU's to very good (GX series). A little bit pricey though (at least here).
I must have taken stupid pills today...
How do I turn off turbo mode (or whatever)? Every time I go to run a burn in test for stability it drops the damn multi down to 37-38x (from 46)
Fixed my ram issues. The Thermalright Venomous X was screwed to the board too tight. It warped the board and made mem slot 3 and 4 useless. The PCB of the Fatal1ty might be too thin for big coolers. But I never had a problem with the V8 and it was big and heavy.
Without reading where that claim come from its hard to put any merit in it. I would think if it was a problem with either Asrocks boards or the P67 chip itself there would be many people complaining about it. I don't see any, do you? ;)
Sure would be easier if a actual Asrock rep dropped a word in this thread from time to time instead of me doing all the work for them, they owe me. :shakes:
The claim comes from the following forum:
http://forums.tweaktown.com/asrock/4...rollers-2.html
Thats not exactly the most detailed of descriptions from the user. I think you are blowing that way out of proportion, its ONE user, asking about ONE issue, with ONE RAID card. The user didn't even state if a different RAID card was tried. The problem could of entirely been with the RAID card itself and needing to be issued a firmware update.
Hi there , just set up my rig ...
bought the 2500 processor..
using the thermalright ultra 120 cooler ..
but in the hw monitor , it say core 0 and core 1 , is idle at 36 but my core 2 and core 3 idle at 42 .. using the hw monitor to check. but in the bios , it said the cpu temp is 46 ... it that too high... let me know.. I can resit the cooler again.
Temps seem fine. 4-6c delta between some of the cores is normal. I'd not pay too much attention to the UEFI CPU temp reading, I suspect its uncalibrated or it measures actual core temp, and not IHS surface temp.
okay .. thanks for the quick reply. hmm.. Im using third party cooler... the the load temp were good.. using the OCCT and prime95 to test.. . never even went past 60c... mostly in the range of 54-58c for all for core ..
may I know which temp monitor software as of current is able to give the correct temp of these sandybridge..
I realized that the realtemp 3.60 was like outdated.. last year oct.
