I'd lower you ram volts and set timing to 6-6-6-24 start 800mhz then try 1066mhz. I had my ram up to 1,104 @ 1.96 volts at one time.

235 x 13.5 = 3.17ghz

667 divider @ 235 x 13.5.. NB/HT set to 9x = 2115mhz
667 divider @ 240 x 13.5.. NB/HT set to 8x = 1920mhz
If this works then you can Raise the NB up more..
I would use 1.45- 1.5v for both CPU/NB and Vdd2.8v No ACC yet.
2x2gigs puts more staian on IMC than 2gigs. My Oc is with 2gigs. If i run 4gigs i gotta up the HTvolts more and even NB to compensate.
1.28v is plenty for you to run safe 24/7.. The main thing is CPU/NB volts. Try you Overclock with NO ACC being used first. Then try simalar OC with ACC +2 and so on. It will take time .
Youll get it.
I am have tempted to load Vista 64bit..Just to see if it kills my OC...Win 64Bit has proved better on OCing then 32bit Vista and XP. I wonder if Vista 64 is just that much of a pain..Quote:

The screenshot I posted is just the highest stable OC I've been able to get. When trying to go higher I've only had the NB/HT at 2000 and FSB at 200. Ram has been set to 800 @ 5-5-5-18 2T at 2.1v (Ram is stated to run at 800 @ 4-4-4-12 2T at 2.0-2.1v). I've currently just been using the multiplier when going above 3000mhz.
I don't understand what you mean by setting HT to 2.8v. The highest the BIOS says I can set HT volts to is 1.40v.
Also, when I turn ACC off, I can't even boot into Windows at 16x200, even with vcore and nb up to 1.525. When ACC is set to auto I can run OCCT for about a minute before Windows crashes, with max temps at 56C at 1.525.
EDIT: I'm also going to do a clean install of XP 64. When demonk asked my OS it reminded me that my Vista 64 is a bootleg install, so I want to eliminate that as a possible source of problems, esp since I don't care about running XP vs. Vista.

The whole time i thought it did. The one that Actually Helps the Ram slots and Max Freqency is (Core PCI-E) I run it @ 1.32volts when using High NB and CPUclocks to keep things stable.
If i set HT to 1.26v the HTchipset is 1.26v. So in Fact the HTvolts are 100% seperate volts than the CORE PCI-E (NBchipset volts). On Previous Mobo's ive had the HTvolts and NBchipset volts were usually set by HTvolts. i dont know why i didnt notice earlier..

Look at the settings AOD reports. Shows my CPU volts @ 1.49v.. But CPU-Z shows 1.73v. I know in MY bios its 1.73v in the Power Monitor menu.
the CPU/NBVID's are wrong too but HT //NB// Ram //southbridge read correct in AOD.. wierd stuff.

Ive been trying for 300 but this Bios nosedives after 293 . It will set CPU to 3900mhz no matter the CPU Multi or Ram divider i use. ive tried 8x and Low HT and Max HT :D even if i lower the Ram 294 is a no go ..
Patiently waiting for next Bios. im determined to get HTT300 . I have not been able to do HTT300 on ANY AM2+ Mobo yet with Phenom B3.

I think it's mainly because the CPU score. Unfortunately the CPU score has a pretty high influence on the final score. Compare the SM2.0 and HDR/SM3.0 scores only. ;)Quote:

yeah, got rid of my stability problems with HD4850, did VPU-recover very often when i was gaming.. the fault was NB-frequency, it was 2350MHz which was too much apparently, now 2250MHz and runned about an hour without problems. Also im running 11x282HTT now and seems to work fine, some performance gain is noticeable. Also little weird.. my temps have lowered from yesterday, its now idling 40C with CPU Tweak on, OFF gives 33C :D 3.1GHz@1.4Vcore
well my sm2 and sm3 scores are over 300-400 points with the CPU at 2.9 GHz compared to the Phenom at 3.4 GHz. Regardless this chip is just crazy! its fast as f**k. From the looks of it, the PHenom II won't be giving it a run neither, i've seen some benchmarks with the i7 920 with hyperthreading disabled, meaning on 4 threads, and it still murders the Phenom II scores at a much lower clock. What AMD needs is the Phenom FX!!!! Now that will definitely be a different story.Quote:

Yeah, bro I only shared some feedback from what i'm experiencing with the new setup. In no way was I bashing AMD or saying the Phenom was a bad CPU, I still have a phenom and will buy a Phenom II when released. If certain people cannot take handle some feedback, thats not my fault. and if I said that i am getting better scores with my i7 I only say that because it is true. While I had my phenom I did add lots of valuable benchmarks and have helped and continue to help anybody I Can trying to overclock a Phenom.Quote:

This is getting really weird! .. :D Just ran 1024M wprime bench and cinebench multicore bench with 287x11.5 = 3300MHz at 1.4Vcore without ACC. Little while ago it wasnt stable enough even to run superpi1m.. now all this, I think it doesnt like big multipliers, is this normal? Also ran 5hours aod stability test last night at 3240MHz with small multiplier.

All depends on How how the NB is . the Timing at 800 MHZ plays a role too.. 1066divider usually likes 5-5-5- or higher especially above 1100mhz. Some apps like it some dont. Ganged and Ganged is also a factor as some programs run better in ganged and some run better in unganged.Quote:

Its just little sad that I still cant get this 247 stable above 3.1GHz, still the rebooting issue.. it just comes under heavy cpu-load no matter what I try. :/ And the older bios wont boot at all if I try to clock.. even 15x200 fails to boot. Now I have got the settings about right for 3.1GHz and maxed the performance for that(all I can do for now). 3dmark06 cpu gives 4600-4610 now. Cinebench gives about 9950 and wprime 32M 12.4sec, superpi 1m 24.5sec. And this is for 24/7 stable.
Hmmm the NB could have been under stress @ 2400 when running 1140mhz..Thus can slow down the CPU L3 /Slower results if the NB is close to max . While @ 800mhz it can handle the lower freqency just fine with out slowing down the NB.Quote:

The cpu multi affects what multi the ram runs on. This could explain what your seeing happen when running 1140 vs 800 in the same Ganged or Unganged mode.

Update,, Using Vista32bit ,, it can run 5200HT total:D I tried with XP and didnt think i could get the same results. I havnt tried for High Clocks with HIGH HT since. I just wanted to see how much HT would go with High NB on this OS. Not too shabby .

Theres not to much more i can get with this 9950 and im waiting for 45nm before i bite on another chip.. This has been the Most Pleasing system for me out of all Phenom to date ive tested. It can truly Clock in more ways than one.. Phenom offers a lot to play with.
This ASUS 79-T is a real Joy to make boogy if ya know what i mean. I cant wait to see what newer Asus bioses will bring with B3 and the New 45's to boot:up:

LOL, man those are some sick nb/ht clocks. I cant say i've had mine over 2.2, mostly because i never felt the need. You think it has any effect on benchies? I wouldnt think it would too much, for the simple reason cpu-mem is on a dedicated bus outside of the htt/nb, so i usually drop my multis on them so they're dont interfere with anything. So far i've got this 9850 benching at 3450ish, highest cpuz valid was 3534, but given the fact that i ran at 3534, got the validation, and didnt crash right away, is telling me this chip has got some more balls, next stop, 3.6 :D
BTW, i figured out how to hit 1.9vcore, believe it or not, 1.7vcore from the bios is 1.5vid with +.2v boost from asus, AMD OD let me ramp the vid upto 1.55 with the +.2v boost. vcore from cpuz was showing ~1.83, with 2.8v VDD, running wPrime brought it up to just shy of 1.9, like 1.893 i think. Of course, everything shut down from a thermal overload, thought i bricked the chip for a minute, then it booted up lol. Checked my logs and the temps went from 33c to 84c in about 5 seconds, fried eggs anyone? :rofl:

The 3870x2 on Stock Air ASUS 79-T rocks..this card would not go above 918/1099mhz on any other mobo i tried @ 3.5ghz.. its way above that with no Voltmods.
Unbelievable, this Mobo let My Vidcard oc like Crazy even with cpu@3550mhz with high NB //HT. This hardware has never ran this High on any other Mobo to Date,, Including GX3/SB750 and 78-T. This is Night and day overclocks from all mobos ive used with 9950 and 3870x2.

Kept Ram on Auto timing and Ganged but only used the Highest freqency My Ram would allow for all speeds achieved.
This is my 24/7 volts that i used with My Old TA770,,only differance is ACC+4 to achieve a 100+mhz Oc over the Ta770.Im Happy and Yes ACC really works. I just had to give it a chance after many mess ups with the 403 and 502 bios. The 602 is sweet.

i wanted to give amd a chance and sold the asus p5k pro, e6300 and some 3gb ram to a friend. i bought a m3a79-t, amd x2 5050e, 2x2gb ram which do around 475-500mhz cl5 with 2.1v.
now i'm messing around with this setup as my first amd system for overclocking since, ehm, ever ;-)
i'm really not familiar with it and can't find any overclocking results with this 5050e.
how much voltage can these cpu's take? is there any degrading noticed so far with amd chips? i read that this is a x2 with a phenom core, is this true? and if so can i compare the clocks/volts between the 5050e and phenoms?
what i really want to say is: is there anything i _must_ know to get good results from this board and/or the cpu?

hey, welcome to AMD..again..:) The 5050e is a Brisbane and is not based on the agena(Phenom) core. I run 1.44v through my X2 4200+ (Brisbane). sits at 3.0ghz from 2.3 stock. never went higher tho.Quote:

This is a 1.4v set in bios, which is the maximum voltage i can set for cpu vcore btw. why is this?
When do i have to raise the NB/HT voltage and when the NB/Core voltage?
When i raise the bus speed and lower the multi, do i have to raise voltage at all or do i only have to raise those voltages when the "HT Link" speed gets faster?
Do i have any advantage of a high bus speed with a low ht multi? and does this ht link effect the cpu so that i have to raise the cpu vcore?
so many questions, i hope i'm not already going on your nerves ;)
320htt is good! id bump the multi back up a few and lower ram/ht link and push the htt from there to see if you can get higher core clock

I Only Raise the HT voltage if the Sytem starts becoming unstable. I usually keep it @1.28v is a safe range. Stock is 1.26v

You will need to Disable Voltage monitoring in Power menu if you go above 1.6v.:D I usually set the VDD @2.8v and raise the CPUvolts first then when i Oc the NB i slowly raise the NBvoltage(cpu) as i raise the NB evey 200mhz..
Try to Clock with ACC off first. If i feel im at Max Clocks(unstable after a while) may need just a little volts ,,Ill then use ACC +2 or maybe +4.
Oops,,Note: NBvoltage and Freqency will only apply if you have Agena/Deneb..PhenomI PhenomII core type CPU's..You should not need to worry about setting those options. You will need to Raise the CORE/nbvolts ..thats the Chipset on the Mobo which controls the ram slots. it helps with all X2's and Phenoms. I would not have been able to Clock my 6000+ up to 3.5ghz F3 with out it on any mobo.
Make Shure your are using Manual Overclocking Mode NOT STANDARD MODE too.

So I've got my mobo/cpu/sheit up and running and I have a couple of questions. I've read through this thread (well, at least about 20 pages) and the manual etc and I'm not sure about the answer;
1) Is there a performance (or other) benefit to AHCI?
2) Can I simply enable AHCI although everything (WinXPx64) is installed already or will I "loose" my OS installation?
3) I find no info on the eSATA hot-swap. It only says it's possible. Is there any particular procedure for making it work?
Any help would be sexy!

oc junky, ht link afaik doesnt affect performance until it drops very low, and can help increase stability if kept around 1000, too high can cause instabilities. like gotvoltage said, keep the ram divider low and ht link low and see how high you can push your htt with your 13 multi. i think as long as your mem speeds stay in spec (they go up w/ htt) and your ht link stays around 1000 you should be able to find your max core clock (need to bump nbV, vdimm, vcore). then from there you can pick a multi/htt/mem combination to get you close to your max core clock and that will also oc your nb and ram
I too have the m3a79-t dlx board paired with a 9850BE. Im usuing crucial dominators with the stock 5-5-5-15-2t @2.2v and a visiontek 4850. Im having issues getting it to go above 3.2 (200 bus 16x mult @ 1.48v cpu/nb stock nb/ht speed ACC 4%) If i go above it, say to 17x mult my 3 and 4 cores fail at self test in prim 95.
Right now im running at 3420 with my mem timings at the above, the mem div at 1:2, mult at 15, bus at 228, acc still at 4% HT/NB @ 2280 with voltages at 1.6 for both CPU/NB running stable (to me stable is running WoW for over an hour :-D)but 3 and 4 core still failing.
I can never run half mults (i.e. 15.5) My cpu is h2o cooled.
Anyone have any pointers on how i can squeeze some more out of this thing? i'm seeing people get 3.5 - 3.6 What are you 9850 owners out there getting as far as settings??

Mine gave Me Oc problems above 3.45ghz running on the 533 divider. Vipers with same settings can run cpu to 3.6ghz. The dominators really held me back and i had the D9 version.
Mater of fact im running@ 4-4-4-5 24 2t unganged with Vipers where the Dominators would only do 5-6-6-5 20 2T..
I can Run Unganged with tigh ttiming and faster overall speed at high Overclocks,,Where as Ganged would crash my nb or cause unstibilities at the same exact Clocks/freqency..It one big crapshoot i tell ya.
If two cores are failing and going at the same time i would say they dont have enuff Vcor for 3.4ghz. If it was just one core id say the chip is maxed:D.
Your Chip may like higher htt with low CPux more. Your water cooled so hopefully temps arnt the issue.

well i was doing some adjustments on the mutiplier... and im pretty sure my mobo just took a s***t on me... it restarted as normal after saving the changes, went to boot into windows, and just restarted, i got my asus splash screen, then... black screen. I tried to clear the cmos... nothing.
try a battery pull?
should i wait any specific amount of time before putting it back in?

Sometime that can happen if it dosnt like a HT or NB setting.. if CPU Multi or something does not set right it can happen. Do you have other Ram besides the Dominators to use?
When ever my Dominators would act up with this mobo it resulted in a black screen and No powering on .. Problem i had to remove ram and put in another Brand.
For some reason when ever the Oc reset the Bios it would reset the Ram volts to 1.8v (default jdec) It would no longer be 2.2v which is needed to run above 800mhz on the Dominators i had.
So i installed my 9600 Vipers and have never had to deal with anymore.
Yeah its not doing ANYTHING. i push the power, and my fans/pump turn on, HDD spin-up, optical spins and thats it. The two red LEDs on my 4850 that are usual lit stay on for a sec or two then shut off. Black screen on monitor. And yeah, the dominators are the only thing i have :-( I thought about getting http://microcenter.com/single_produc...uct_id=0288096 as they are my only option other than waiting till mid next week for them to arrive from newegg...
EDIT: im using the newest bios, the 602 which i just flashed earlier today.

I tried that. witching one out with the other and no go... and this point what would you guys think it is? Ram, CPU, or Mobo?
id try to unplug psu/flip switch so its off,,, clear cmos & pull battery for half hour or so, make sure all cables are in tight etc and try it again. if nothing happens still i'd lean toward cpu being the culprit as the mobo is still takin/sendin power but dont hold me to it :D
If your running the board outside of the case you can look at the underside of the board and see if you notice any hot spots under the FET's....
Did you hear a pop or notice a burning smell? As long as you weren't much over 1.55 on Vcore I doubt you killed the CPU (although the IMC's are kind of sensitive to high voltage). What PSU are you running? If the PSU died you can usually just put you nose by it and sniff, if it died it's usually pretty obvious..
FWIW, you can try running the system bare minimum (unless the PSU smells burnt, if thats the case I'd stop right now and not try anymore). By bare minimum, I mean just the boot drive, 1 stick of ram and the VC...
Personally, I'm not sure I would spend that much cash on those RAM's until I knew for sure what died..
I think its the CPU... the vcore was around 1.65-.68 i didnt hear any pops but when it tried to boot into windows is when it went blank and never came back... if thats the case hell i might as well let this damn thing sit untill the denebs come out in jan... no sence wasting another $200 on a chip to turn around and spend it again a month later...
sometimes when i have similar things happen w/ everything turning on but no signal to monitor i can get it back by hitting the reset button a few times on front of pc. may sound wierd but one day i didnt feel like pullin it out to clear cmos so i restarted it, same thing, restarted it, same thing, restarted it, same thing, hit the restart button a couple times quick before it could even try to post and then wah-lahh itll post and i get in and put my settings stable and get out quick or just set them to defaults quick and start over. not tryin to get your hopes up here lol but figure what do you got to lose

One thing to try for getting a viewable screen,,
If Your using DVI unplug it from card and unplug monitor. Use a DVI to anolog connector if you can and see itf it boots that way.. By swiching from DVI to anolog or vise versa can unlock a stuck or confused Monitor or Video card.
You havnt mentioned anything about any beep errors so i presume its booting with just blank screen (No Signal) If you wait like two minutes after powering on do you hear a single beep for windows? You know the lenth of boot up into windows then a single beep with HD light going and fans?
Also When Clear CMOS make shure the jump pin is back at the 1-2 setting not 2-3 setting... I Clear it with the PSU OFF and UNPLUGGED.. I leave it in the Clear MODE 2-3clear for a few Minutes and then set back to 1-2keep .
You may even want to pull the 4850 and reseat it..Tricks Mobo to resetting IRQ's if something went wacko in the boot department.

Ive had bad days plenty of em... I Even had two days last week were i couldnt boot (though my old 3870x2 was toast(all lit up). Only to find i had a broken PCI-E pin on the Plug from my PSU cable(wire snapped from pin at solder under sleave). I guess i pulled to hard Removing the 3870x2 one day swapping the GTX260:D
Has anyone seen a waterblock on this board on the NB on top of the stock cooler unit? How it would be connnected I am not sure, but I thought I saw pictures on other boards people doing this?
Am I seeing things and/or are these people crazy?
I would think cooling that huge copper block which is attached to the SB/Mosfet would be reasonable.

You 'could' attach something over the top of the NB by taking out the little clips that hold the stock nb in place, and going through the wholes with some threaded rod, and bolting it down that way. I doubt any stock mounting gear that you would get would have long enough studs to account for the extra height of the stock heatsink. I think most of them assume your going to go directly on the die, though you might luck out. But ya, anything is possible with the right tools ;)
Although im not sure exactly how practical it would be. Obviously it would help some, but just looking at mine, there's not really alot of surface area as the top of the stock NB blocks isnt flat across, its just those two side strips of copper. I think for the most part the design is meant to pull the heat away, upto the mosfet sink, to get blown off by the cpu heatsink or some other fan and out the back of the case. Your still way better off to get rid of the stock setup and put any blocks directly onto the nb.
Ordered one M3A79-T Deluxe for Deneb, till then im sure i can find a use for this mobo .....

I assumed that would be the best approach is to remove, but when looking at the chip that is under the stock block it is so small and the block surface is much bigger and then you have to contend with the little chips that are lower then the chip that the stock cooler had a pad stuck to it to also worry about. Its the Koolance GPU-200 and the screws were long enough barely.
The block is a bit big and the screws are at a angle.
I have the M3A79-T coming today so i might just take the heatsink off the m3a32-mvp and shave it down some so the block makes contact with the center of the heatsink. whats touching the block is just the sides of the heatsink .Same contact points it makes with the heatpipes.

i think i found the reason for the weird "downclocking" iīm experiencing when running prime95 for a few minutes.
itīs the mosfet/nb cooling...
even at 3.2ghz idling itīs getting so hot that u canīt really touch it.
just for fun i tried putting the stock amd coolerfan that came with my 9950 on the mosfet heatsink. that way i could pass 3dmark vantage runs at 3.4ghz without having those weird hiccups during the cpu-test (guess that was because of the "downclocking" when the mosfets or the nb exceeded a certain temp). that lil 90mm fan went up to 4900rpm during the benchmark so that heatpipe thing getīs really hot and i think i need to put it under water too.
iīm going to use a watercool sw-17 on the mosfets and nsb-3 on both the nb and sb. iīm hoping my 3x120mm rad can take all that heat (cpu,4870x2,mosfets,nb,sb).
i was seeing my NB temps go into the 50šs with the factory heat pipes on my board, the M3A32 had the same issue, once I watercooled it, never saw 50šs again, the NB on these boards tend to run a bit hot I would say. Just for kicks, here is a pic of when I had the M3A32 running on waterQuote:

Going to give wife the MSI DK790GX plat and pick up an ASUS.
Last build was NF2 A7N8X and I had hell of a time getting Corsair mem to work and chipset was extremely flaky. Bad ASUS because they made board seem like it overclock MB. So I'm very timid about this board. but keep hearing so many good reviews, aahh what the hell, I'll go for it.
But must be very black :D
