Is there gonna be a bios for the M2R to run the Phenom II's or will it need one???
And if it can, how crippled will it be with the 600SB??
Is there gonna be a bios for the M2R to run the Phenom II's or will it need one???
And if it can, how crippled will it be with the 600SB??
it is there, newest beta...
and i think sb600 with phenom II will be easier then sb600 with phenom I.. perhaps you loose 100-200mhz compared to sb750
i will keep the m2r and test with the new phenoms :D
Attention: New 10/2/2008 "Beta" Bios is Bugged
no idea, new component voltage control I think
Thats odd they pulled 5/5/2008 as well as 4/16/2008 Offcial Bios:confused:
They pulled the 10/2/2008 after I reported it bugged to RGone cant understand the reason for the 2 official file though.............Bizarre :brick:
ok will try 01/12/2008 sometime in preparation of phenom II.... big thanx DFI for still supporting this awesome board :D
Hey, Olli:) With the 10/2/2008 "Beta" you could not go past the 1800mhz NB clock speed on this chip. This was actually Posted by a fella on D.F.I Club with the same problem with his 9950 BE so I set out to duplicate the issue and got the same.
Please see if you have any problem going beyond rated NB Frequency on you chip with this new 12/1/2008 "Beta" and report back please.
Campbell;)
ye i'll try out as soon as possible...
12/01/2008 seems to be bugged with regards to the lan ports... i did not have time to check, it was someone on forumdeluxx and he is using vista (like me..)
Flashed to 12/1/2008 "Beta" LAN works fine on XP32 SP3 :)
Also New 12/1/2008 "Beta" Allows the NB Frequency to be changed above spec:up: Well at least they listened about this:)
The Add PWM Control is nothing more then a Enable\Disable Feature for the PWM Section:confused: WTF........Why Bother with stupid :banana::banana::banana: like that as it adds no relevance what so ever to.......Well........Anything:ROTF:
I see our Bios Team is Hot on the Trail for this board yet once again:shakes:.......C'Mon D.F.I ! Wtf ..is up with you guys in the AMD Bios Programming section these days?
lol brother i didnt believe the nb will only run below spec... what else, i wonder, did the nb prob mean the nb multi couldnt be upped? because thats of course impossible with a locked processor like mine.. and i think if lan works under xp it also will work under vista. but whatever i'll try.. think i'll flash now..
lol pwn disable/enable... i hope they disable it by default and i can enable... as a security type of function.. other way round it would be completely nonsense xD why should i disable that by myself in bios, especially as a dfi customer
ok i tested 12/01 beta and no network under vista64. everything else (overclock with nb @ 2,25ghz, raid etc) works. (it was 12/01 beta for which that was reported actually...)
irq is assigned to network adapters, but at first vista startup new pci bridge drivers are installed. then, the network adapters do not show up as network in the hardware manager, but as pci-to-pci bridge and it says "no ressources".
http://www.abload.de/thumb/networkkn15.jpg
but, freeing irq's does not help.
i dont know whats up there. driver reinstall does not help...
compared to earlier bios versions, there are just too many cpu-to-pci bridges... i could try disable some ;)
ok no use the pci bridges are installed again after restart and no network...
Guys, I just set up a new comp for a friend with this MB (m2r), fresh install of xp pro, everything is installed fine but the audio, i cant get any audio out of this MB. Checked bios to make sure it is enabled and it is, installed drivers from cd, tried drivers from site, no luck, downgraded bios, board came with 5/5/08 bios. The specs are 9950 be, corsair dominator ram, 2x2gb, asus 4830, coolmax 700w psu.
i should also add that i currently run another pc with this same motherboard without a problem.
please any info would be helpfull, thanx.
I'm having front audio issues too, although my rear panel audio ports work fine. Ideas on that would be great.
For DDR2 overclocking on 790FX-M2RS (SB600)
I have problems with Gskill DDR2-1000 5-5-5-15. For some reason I can't overclock this memory as good DDR-800.
If set it to 1066 Mhz it will hide options so I can't set it to 5-5-5-15-45 but 5-7-7-20-41 still can't get it to be stable like around 2.25v
If I set it to 800 Mhz I can't increase TRC higher than 26. This memory remains stable if I don't overclock HT higher than 230. It can boot but I can't do any memtest stress at all even though I lower multi for NB, HT, and CPU Nothing higher than 2.8 GHz, 2 GHz on NB and HT.
Should I just get it replace and exactly 1066 memory?
its normal that you cant use certain timings when in 800 or in 1066 mode.
for htt overclocking use 800 mode otherwise your ram will clock too high.
and yes, i think for 1066 you need ram with 1066 spd, or you will have to boot in 800mode, set all timings manually, reboot and switch to 1066...
I flashed to 12/1 bios and I too had that issue with LAN.
Same as Oese...except Im on Vista 32 sp1.
Went back to 3/7/08 cause they pulled alot of bios files.
Bought a Toliman 8750 and seems it wont boot at 1066 with this bios.
Its been a real pain just to get it boot at 800.
Had to pull out reapers and use another set of OCZ gold I just had laying around. Now it boots with reapers but wont run at 1066.
Just for the notice, BIOS from 01/DEC/2008 has been upgraded to official
Thanks. Just found out it was a bad stick. When I tried DDR2-800 from my Intel system that was clock to 1100 Mhz @ 5-5-5-15. So I used that on my AMD system with Phenom with settings 5-5-5-16-25 it was stable unlike the DDR2-1000 @ 1066 with similar timings with Intel system.
I transfer the stick to system with Athlon X2 5000 BE and use 10x250 failed the memtest on 2nd stick. HTT is under 1000 Mhz so it shouldn't be a problem. 1st stick can boot run couple for one hour while 2nd stick didn't boot at all. 5-5-5-15-25 @ 2.2v on both test.
I tried doing that what you said on switching between them for some reason it will change it 5-7-7-20 if my previous was DDR800 5-5-5-15-25
ok so you figured it out ;)
with the ddr1066 mode, the internal phenom registers are limited to a number of possible timings, and with ddr1066 mode these are higher. So nothing unusual there, it simply changes to the lowest possible timing in ddr1066 mode if you switch over from 800... unfortunately no way to get tighter timings in ddr1066 mode as this is kinda hardware (microcode) limited.
Hope you get your system running nicely whatever ;)
@ brother esau: Could you report the LAN port problem with the last (12/01) beta to the DFI bios crew? Most of the people at hwluxx germany do have these problems (vista64 mostly) except one guy who uses vista64 as well and did not encounter it...
Hi, Olli:) See if the 12/01/2008 Official gives same issue please.
It's kind of hard to test the Bios Releases with this 9600 BE (B2) Revision chip , well because it sucks and will not overclock so I leave it at stock.
Anyone that has VISTA 64 bit Please see if the 12/01/2008 Official Bios kills your LAN if that is the case still then it definitely needs to be Fixed A.S.A.P for Upcoming Phenom 2 Release.
Campbell;)
yeh i've tested with 12/01.. that was actually the version that was reported to give that result with vista64...
that problem occurs for everyone at forumdeluxx with vista but interestingly except 1 guy... but we were'nt able to figure it out^^
edit: my fault, i didnt test official. was not out a few days ago..
but already someone at forumdeluxx tested it with vista 32bit and same problem..
edit 2: flashed the official version and did long cmos clear, no use.. same thing.
will try brand new install tomorrow on a spare hd...
Hey Campbell,
i actually tried 12/01 official now, long overnight clear cmos, load optimal defaults, brandnew fresh install of vista64 business, installed network drivers and same thing.
Now I can confirm really that there's something wrong with this bios with respect to vista and network.
i see the network ports during bootup, they get an irq assigned and so they are not defective or disabled, but they are not recognized in windows.. same picture in hw manager as i posted already, many many cpu-pci-bridges but no network... really strange.
And i think i figured it out why the one guy has it working under vista: He does not have a phenom but a dualcore. Thus, there are not that many cpu-pci bridge devices and thus, his system has enough ressources for the marvell lan chips to be recognized correctly...
this MUST be fixed to provide full functionality when the new phenoms come out.... I planned to get one early january if they are not too expensive...
edit: ok it does not seem to be x2 vs x4 related.. some ppl with x2 do experience that problem also..
Well Olli I have no way to verify this on mt end so the best thing to do is start a thread about it on DFI Club and have others with the same problem post up so its just not you making a Beef about the bios. I agree they do need that fixed A.S.A.P:)
jep i'm already posted on DFI club but not in a dedicated thread. Will do that....
Hello I have the following system
AMD 9950 BE (125watt I think) (FSB 232 with CnQ, CPU special add +.75) @3Ghz
DFI 790FX M2RS with bios A01
3GB Geil Black Dragon 1066 4 4 4 10 @793mhz
PowerColor 4870 850/1050
Thermaltake Armour case
Thermaltake Toughpower 700w
very good waterblock and twin 120mm rad
Idle with CnQ 13-16 degrees, load ~35
Here is the issue,
How can I get my Phenom over 3.1GHz,
Ive tried various ways upping the FSB or standard FSB and just increasing the multi, but it refuses to load into windows above 3.1Ghz. ANd ive tried upping the voltage to nearly 1.6V on the 'special add' bios setting.
I have the NB core and NB-HT link voltages increased 1 step.
Do I NEED to mess about with the CPU settings(P states etc, dont really understand them)
Do I need more chipset voltage, considering chipset and PWM run at ~50 degrees C.
Are there any settings in the bios that will limit my OCing headroom, Id like to think I have a good idea on how to OC, and when OCing the CPU I have downclocked my RAM etc.
any suggestions?
Oh yea and Ive tried 2 different boards and both give me high-pitch noise form the PWM's (I think), sometimes more audiable than others.
Thanks alot
the high pitched noise is normal.
i think your cpu is just not good enough... or try only 2gb of ram 3gb is odd and no dualchannel then as well....
I see some crazy voltages in some other AMD Athlon64 x2 OC threads, with people bumping past 1.5V... I wonder if anyone could actually use it at that voltage setting 24/7, or would it shorten component life by a LOT (say to less than 2 to 3 years)? I have mine at 1.456V but wondering if it's safer to go higher since my chip barely touches 50C during stress tests.
Also, many OC guides do not give very specific instructions as to how to increase voltages on things. They most often only say a few words at the very end of articles like "increase voltages for stability" and that's it! As if voltage increases were an afterthought of some kind. Isn't there a specific order to the chaos, like for example give volts to CPU first, then NB, then others? I don't want to continue to go around increasing voltages randomly like a headless chicken :P
I'm starting to looking for actually getting some help because I just could not get my 3.5GHz Windsor 5600+ OC stable (i.e. running things other than just 3DMark and games). I'll list specific settings later after I get this voltage thing straight.
Motherboard: DK 790FX-M2RS
more volts! and when it pops,,, deneb :D
Bios 45nm problem is cared about now...Quote:

after all, i'll suppose try it and if it fails -> crazy has given the answer xD Perhaps it's stable at 1,52v or something, then you could leave it that way...
Is it still worth the money? Im stuck with some sort of HP motherboard.
I would say yes.... DFI M2R + DENEB = Kick Ass Platform if you dont want to wait for new high end DDR3 DFI boards...
no kidding, i'm totally convinced that in terms of reliability and bios maturity as well as pwm section design no other board still comes close. Only drawback is the lack of sb750 and ACC, but with the upcoming phenom II that does not really matter...
I had been checking in on the status of what was going on with the issue submitted on DFI Club , glad to see its getting sorted out.:)
As for the DFI LanParty UT 790FX-M2R I would say its superior to the current generation of AMD offerings from DFI. The only thing that I have bad to say about this board is the HDD performance on the SB600 Chipset is absolutely horid. But on my end I am not affected because I run a dedicated Raid Controller. I have had this Board since before it was available on the Market the first one I had for about a week and it was Flaky somewhat so I sent it in and got another which was actually delivered on Dec 13th my Birthday and have not had 1 Single issue with it period:up: This Board is Rock Solid and stable like a Server Board the only issue is that I have been waiting on a worthy Processor to put in it:yepp:
Personally I thing the only thing the SB750 brings to the table that is really neede is the much warranted and needed HDD Performance and USB Performance;)
My system runs 24/7 pretty much since I have built it!
 good luck!
and @ be: my experience with this board is exactly the same i never experienced any oddities as they are unfortunately common even to high end hardware nowadays. and compared with other brands even bios and support are superb. not only best dfi board i ever had but best board ever. and much more lucky even because deneb will run on this
about hdd performance: i think these increased with the more mature biosses with updated raid bios versions. but i dont know really. with raid0, i'm totally pleased now even if using sb600. only thing is the problems with sata dvd drives... but that doesnt matter to me as i'm always a bit late in such things so that my ide dvd-rw is just right ;)
of course, sometime we will need am3 boards from dfi which come close to this or are even better. and now with phenom II i think dfi will design something really well suited for their high class segment again with good bios support and everything just like in the dfi intel section... amd section and support was crippled somewhat during poor overall amd sales.. but we came along quite well if you compare with asus's biosses for example. they only run good if you allow them to have their own will, whereas dfi gives me to have the opportunity of full control (mostly) and thats what tweaking is about...
What is this issue with sata dvd drives u speak of?
I seem to have some flaky things going on and cant figure it out.
Im leaning towards bios issue but Im still unsure, what it may actually be.
dont know exactly, never had one, but it seems like random erratic things going on with sata optical drives.
if you experience such, simply disconnect that drive and see if things improve...
new beta bios for the guys with lan problems

link
cool will be tested tomorrow :D
very nice LAN Ports work now :D
further testing ;)
So this newer M2RS boards works perfectly fine with the latest bios? are there any drawbacks at all?
I now the M2R was buggy as hell for many people, but what about the S version? or even more the 790FXB-M2RSH?
m2r (sb600) WAS bugged with the first bios versions, its the stablest, most UNbugged board i ever had (since i oc..) now since bios 01/30...
m2rs (sb600) i dont know, its budget version of the m2r but rather good and not really bugged.
m2rsh (sb750, dont mix with the sb600 boards) is good too but bios still needs to mature is my impression..
@ be: bios passed the first stability tests on my side, i'm pleased. ram voltage needs one notch higher then with 05/05 (03/07 too needs more volts for me on ram then 05/05), but i didnt test if 05/05 is possibly more overvolting then the other versions...
All is working good so far on Vista 32 bit.
LAN ports are working like they should.
Running stable on stock settings.
OK seems I'm running on two cylinders only?
Screenshot
Using 12/18/08 Beta Bios.
One good thing tho I somehow have a full 4gb of mem on 32 bit os:D
Oh ya u guys think its safe 4 me to use this bios still?
i have all 4 cores running definitely
Ok did some more testing due to curiosity.
I never did bother to check while on 12/01/08 Beta bios.
But I flashed 12/01/08 Official and my results on LAN was the same.
And the same goes for my cpu...only 2 cores  Screenshot
went back 9 months:rofl: to 3/31/08 Beta and all 3 cores work fine.
Dont think DFI has that option....Im kinda new to k-10's
But I tried just loading defaults and thats how it ran.
i never saw that option either. mmh only 3 cores on that new biosses is not good. I ll ask one of my forumdeluxx guys for testing with a x3.
you can test with a new install on a spare hd eventually?
SAB, about the bios release, 2008-10-01, I just flashed to it and lost one of my cores, did the same as you and flashed to an older one and problem solved.
Apart from that little dilemma I'm loving this board :D, can't wait to start overclocking it :D.
mate on forumdeluxx with x3 has the problem also... only 2 cores left with the newer biosses...
I am not following these posts Olli , SAB which bios are you speaking of 12/01/2008 Official or.........12/18/2008 "Beta"????
Is the New 12/18/2008 "Beta" Disabling a CPU Core??????
What the hell are the DFI BIOS developers guys doing?!? It's ridiculous... :shakes:
Been wondering the same thing for over a year now:shakes: Very frustrating and disappointing coming from D.F.I and hard to believe that these guys were the ones that turned out the NF4 939 Bios:( (OSKAR) Please start Programming Bios Again I'm begging you Fire your staff and work 24/7:yepp:
Where has Oskar been?????
OSKAR is the head of the Bios Team. I suppose that he just supervises
I'll do it again. Because try to report any error to asus and wait for a bios.. it will not take only 3 days till it is fixed.
the problem is too low sales of amd in general in the last two years. so how many high end dfi boards do you think have been purchased and will that cover development costs?
i seriously hope this will be another deal with new phenom II the next years.. there could be a good amount of real good oc boards (some from dfi as well) needed for amd phenom oc...
thats also the cause for the rather mid-class sb750 lineup dfi presented
Look at the DFI web site and count how many AMD boards there are.
then count the Intel u will see they are most definitely geared towards them.
But that is just smart business, cant blame DFI for that.
I hold AMD responsible, not only 4 the lame southbridge's they have.
But these CPU's that are poor clockers....Thuse resulting in poor sales.
Hopefully that will change with this next release of CPU's.
What bios is everyone running on their M2RS? So far I've ran the 2008-10-01 official and lost a core with my 8750 x3, and currently I'm using 03/05/2008 and I it doesn't seem to be saving the voltages 0.o
he's talking about the dk m2rs, not the ut m2r
Doh ,missed that. Anyhow u may wanna report that to Rgone over at DFI club
What I meant was report that the bios wont use all 3 cores.
And here is a thread I ran across while reporting that the 12/01/08 Official and the 12/18/08 Beta only used 2 cores on my UT 790FX with X3 Phenom.
I tried the newest AMD overdrive and I found that my volts didnt change as well.
Most of us overclockers hate overdrive cause its so unstable, best to stick with bios to OC.
new beta solves this problem:
http://csd.dficlub.org/forum/showpos...73&postcount=7
Lets hope this post is true and Oskar is indeed working on it in his spare time:clap:
http://www.csd.dficlub.org/forum/sho...7&postcount=12
did u uninstall it?
And can u post your OC settings as we both have same cpu.
help please - now i'm testing Phenom II 940 with 790FXB-M2RS
but i can't set Multiplier > x25 T_T
any new bios for this mobo ??
isnt the max multiplier 25 ??
"NEW" D.F.I UT 790FX-M2R Alpha Bios 12/26/2008 >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Alpah/Beta anyway a bios that enables all three cores on a Triple Core
Cpu on the LP UT 790FX-T2R motherboard. 12_26_2008 mm/dd/yy date
code.
Should be flashed only with Floppy disk, Usb stick or by CD.
Has anyone tested this board recently for 3-way crossfire?
Plan on getting back into F@H and want to throw 3x3870's in with a 9950 probably :). Already have the MB and 2x3870's sitting around. Last I heard on this board, it doesn't support SLI any changes that I haven't heard about?
It runs TRI XFIRE fine no Nvidia SLI though,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,bleh
does it look like it will be capable of running Phenom II?
Any way to flash these DFI bioses to Sapphire´s board as they are same.
I was Hoping Oskar would see my post in here a couple of pages back and get this resolved personally. I guess I got my wish;)
P.S...........Olli ....get friends from Germany to test ALPHA 12/26/2008 Bios and report results at DFI Club please. SAB please do the same.
Campbell
Yup it has been 1 bad bios after another.
Lets Hope 2009 is a better year for us.
I have a question about k-10 and half dividers.
Is memory bandwidth hurt, when running half multi.
Yea whole Year of Bad AMD Bios from D.F.I ....WTF....is up with that?
This Message is for Oskar Wu
Really Oskar you gotta do something about this its quite appalling and very Disappointing to say the least. I know D.F.I inc Financial mainstay currently resides in Intel Boards and that's fine in a Business perspective considering where AMD has been in the Past couple of years but 20 different :banana::banana::banana:ty Bios for this board in the Past year that's absolutely ridiculous! I Know you guys know how much time I have put into testing these past years Bios even offering Free Re-Programming for Beta Testers in the Event of Bad Flash/ start giving us something solid to work with and stop wasting my time and everyone elses with this drivel .
No disrespect intended towards you in the slightest Oskar with what I just said but think about it, time is the one thing you cannot get back in life. I have no problem doing testing but the reason I stopped is because well the Bios coming out for this board were a complete waste of time .
Now on with the "New" >> Oskar I speak with the heart I hope you can see that? Please now that we have great Processors coming from AMD once more can we please kick the Bios Quality up to the Standards that made D.F.I Legendary with The Expert , Venus, SLI-DR and we can Re- Crown D.F.I with the Best AMD Oveclocking Platform Once More?
We want You Programming these Bios not your Protege's!:clap:
Thank you Oskar............Campbell
Does the NB get very hot when you overclock the board, or can you stick with the stock cooling on it?
you can stick with it..
