don´t flash 0508 ;)
use 0511 or 0512
http://rapidshare.com/files/107112839/0512.zip.html
any logs of 0512?
but why i get invalid id anyway even trying to flash to a non beta bios
no changelog for 0512.
0508/0509 you can flash with awdflash.
0512 say invalid rom id to with ezflash. but awdflash works.
Pushed my hardware close to the limits and teh system worked just great! Surfed a while in the net with those settings after the benches and had no strange things happen! Love that board!

I can see some people are getting nice FSB. Also, whats up with this new BIOS? hopefully it is some fix to current problems that are going around.
Just out of curiosity what are some of you shooting for as far as 24/7 Frequencys on water? I'm really pretty new to Intel, and I'm not sure what I should shoot for for my 24/7 OC. I was thinking 4 GHZ... is that too steep? I have it running pretty stable, just need to work out a few kinks with WOW crashing, im Prime95 Stable for 12 hours so far.
Im looking at at least 4.5 I HAD A QX6700 AT 3.6 WITH NO PROBLEMS
THIS SETUP SHOULD DO FAR BETTER
IF I COULD GET SOME HELP WITH OVERCLOCKING IT
I'm hoping for 4.2-4.5 with my current water setup once I toss in this QX9650 and S2E. I'm currently priming a friend's 9650 at 3.82ghz under a Xigmatek, and it's running 70,70,75,75 degC. I needed 1.38 vcore for this. :( I hope the chip I just got for my rig does better than this.
I can't go in bios now on my xfx :( RMA ?

there, now will you shut up already about the reference board being inferior to the Asus?
Hi guys,
I have some problem with OCZ PC12800, I'm not stable to 1600x9.5 and 1600 7-6-6-19, and RS to 1601x9.5 and 1600 7-7-7-19 with 0511
Today flash 0512 or flash ram spd.
Hi guys,
I am struggling with my newly bought hardware to get it stable.
I have s2e, tested with bios 0507 and 0512.
I cannot get any fsb > 375 and < 450 to be stable.
I just won't go past POST or get a BSOD while windows is loading.
FSB 450 is stable but I need to use high voltage:
PLL 1.5V
FSB 1.5V
MEM 2.0V
NB 1.7V
SB 1.5V
fsb 1800 with memory linked, CPU is 450*8 = 3.6GHz.
I could pass Orthos with no error for 6+ hours.
I tried to set the memory at 1800 unlinked (keeping the QDR at 1333) and the performance was awful: everest read give 8.3GB/s when I get 9.3GB/s with memory linked and synched at 1333 and 12.3GB/s with memory linked at 1800.
P1 and P2 are enabled.
Mateo
Oh nooes.
I ran memtest86+ to check that my corsair dominator dimms were ok.
And I get multiple errors for one of the 2 modules, always in the same range of adresses.
I tried to set fsb back at 1333, and reset the timings to auto (relaxed at 9-9-9-24), and no errors.
If I set memory at 1800, I get errors with 7-7-7-20 and even 8-8-8-24 timings. Memory voltage is 2.0V.
What the hell?! Arent the modules supposed to be tested in factory?!
What do you guys think? Did I get real bad modules or could it be something wrong with my OC on the 790i?
I'm confused.
is there some problem with data corruption in bios 0512? I want to put SIIE back to rig, but i am affraid about my another disk (i have one dead from SIIE).
nothing bad happened to me whilst using 0511 neither 0512. 0512 finally have P1/P2 options available :)
When are we going to get an official non-beta BIOS release?
P04 should be available tommorow
It should be out tommorow, no later than friday
so apparently evga seems to integrate and release updated code bits in a new beta now while asus... is waiting for more code updates from nvidia before they release a new beta?
I have plenty of BIOSes for the S2E from Asus as well.
How many releases do you have for the eVGA ?
I have 8 for the S2E.
[ not a e-p**is fight, and no offense meant ] { it's just my silly way of expressing it that makes it sound a tad bad }
Because he's making a fuzz about eVGA and their BIOS releases ( which are supposedly happening more often ) compared to the "poor" Asus S2E owners.
For real, both the eVGA 790i and the Asus S2E got released about the same time.
I have 8 BIOSes for the S2E already ( and I believe that somebody I know has more than I do :p: ).
How many BIOSes are there for the eVGA ?
p.s. Nice to hear the eVGA 790i Ultra SLI is treating you well.
lol 8xbioses
do they actually change something in those bioses or? j/k :D
Yeap, sure they do change stuff.
1) After a specific release ( I think from 0511 and on ) they added the P1 & P2 options.
2) Every now and then they swap bugs and/or invent new ones :p:
3) Not to forget, release BIOSes that can be flashed only 1 way....sometimes only via Asus Update... sometimes via EZ-Flash....sometimes via AWDflash... and sometimes... hard to rollback as well :D
At least it's way better in terms of b*tchiness over the first Striker.
P.S. Wow, they got the name right on their FTP now! ( the first striker is still shown as "Stricker" on their FTP :D )
haha, so more is better? i thought that meant that it was worse because there were more issues or they needed more tries to get things fixed :D
as of now, the P03R2 bios is absolutely bang on...for dual cores anyway, no idea bout quad users. they just have to fix the CL7 bug, leave P1/P2 adjustment in there, and perhaps clean up some of the POSTing issues. every now and then, a completely stable setup won't POST. it just hangs at 11 or some other random code. a quick reset, save & exit and she fires right up though.
that is one thing i have not heard mentioned...how easily the reference boards recover from failed clocks. no need to even turn the power off, just hit reset and your back to a safe boot. it is very handy.
Nope, that's not what I meant.
Anyways, let's drop this s**t, leads nowhere, and there's no point talking about how many BIOSes each board has seen, who gets the updates first, etc.
Ha! eVGA has CL7 issue, and Asus has CL5 issue :D
LOL. What kind of issues are you talking about with CL7 ?
It's good to see more and more mobos being able to recover from failed clocks easily.
to be honest, i'm not 100% sure. stability at CL7 is shyt...benching is fine at decent clocks but getting anything 24/7 stable much over 900MHz at CL7 was impossible in my testing. could just be the single kit i have tested with thus far or a FSB thing. the BIOS also doesn't recognize that CL7 is set on the POST screen and some guys are thinking CL7 doesn't even get set.
in windows everything picks up CL7 and SPi times go down with CL7 and bandwidth goes up so i'm not sure exactly what the issue is. they talk about the CL7 issue as being fixed at the EVGA site in the new BIOS though so who knows. it could just be the P03 official BIOS that doesn't actually set CL7...not sure.
i love that bit myself ;)
i get code 11 as well sometimes
sometimes while experiementing with crazy OCs i like to do a full cmos clear/battery....load up old settings and bang perfect...just to make sure there is no bad blood between me and this lovely lass :D
i donno man i am just as happy with mine but ppl shoot down anyone that's happy especially if you got the board from them lol..... 'sif
i am yet to have an actual corruption of the hard drive.....as in the whole drive goes or kill one....i seriously don't know wtf some of the review sites/users here were doing to kill their hard drives...maybe a PSU issue  :D
but it is annoying to corrupt windows when RAM is not stable......only cause i'm a tool and still don't know how to use Acronis or ghost or others........actually i think i've mainly given up in the past cause of lack of raid sata support and other things..........and i never successfully managed to reload acronis backups on a couple of mission critical machines at home
jody i know what you are saying about CL7 .> i also see CL8 when i set CL6 in bios during bootup >> so for me at least both CL7 and CL6 reporting issues need to be fixed >>> i didn't prime with these though so can't tell you about stability but all my DDR3 sticks >> 2GB and 4GB Corsair kits and 2GB Crucial kit tend to do the same
maaan i wish i could bench CL6-5-5 at 900+ on this board....that would be crazy fast lol.........it would be hideously fast and would even beat Bill's board in Superpi :D
the eVGA is rock solid at 450fsb with Q9450 P03 bios, but memory performance seems to be low............here is what i got..............

Just an info for you those who are concerned by heat issues
I have throw a hr05 sli ifx on NB and evercool cooper on SB

I got the reference 790i now en only 1 stick at the time works thats F*ckud up
And yes i use the black 1's
slot 4 works 2 is down
That can't be software related or not?
Mems i did test on the 790i
Kingston 1066 mhz Cl7 1.5v
Corsair 1800 mhz Cl7 2.0v
Cellshock 1800 mhz Cl8 1.9
 Seems to be bad. Just take a look what i got...

I have no idea why you took this so serious but I respect what you think about the case and Im not going to deal with anything because Im here for solutions, not more problems.
The reason why I said this was because eVGA has at least an admin in the forums who answers questions to problems and tells users about the new upcoming BIOS releases. Something ASUS doesnt have.
Also, there is something called "changelog" which ASUS for some reason doesnt include in the beta BIOS files, why? I would like to know why too.
Whats so amazing/useful about a new beta BIOS if we dont know the changelog? Why leave the task of finding changes to the user?
And NO, Im not been an eVGA fanboy neither an ASUS fanboy. I dont own neither boards but this has ALWAYS been the case with this companies since 680i. Currently I own an ASUS Striker Extreme but that doesnt cover my eyes from the reality which is evga>asus in support which has been said enough times already.
I took it as serious as I take everything.
However I was affected a little by the way you expressed your impatience about the new BIOS for eVGA.
It sounded like you were expecting miracles ( just like everybody expected with the newer BIOSes for the 680i's ).
That's not bad.
The key however is delivering a good update.
Asus doesn't have lots of things, but... they have a huge market share.
I'm not concerned about the changelog-less BIOSes... I'm mostly concerned about the new bugs ( a text file with a line "Fixed 13x CPU Ratio bug" is ok, but I'd rather have the big list...the list with their latest mistakes :p: ).
I'm quite sure sometimes they've got nothing to say for the new BIOS... wonder if there's any real difference between 0507 and 0508 [ apart from the broken ID :D ]
Never accused you of being a fanboy.
I'm not a fanboy as well.
Or actually... I am a fanboy of... performance ;)
Sure thing.
If Asus can't reach sky...bottom, who would ? ;)
But arent we all impatient for a new BIOS? We expect a working product from a $350 purchase dont we?Quote:

eVGA does it most of the times or at least tells you what to expect from the next update so you wont be dissapointed in case is not what you are expecting :cool:Quote:

What can we do about it? Yes it is 100% true and even when they do great motherboards, is always the user that has to find the way to make it work like it should (or at least most of the cases).Quote:

Well yeah me too, but you know there are always useless BIOS releases (for some not all) like useless fixes for some people and we dont want to waste time doing a pointless upgrade unless is something critic, hey I use BIOS 1004 for my Striker :rolleyes:Quote:

We pay OUR money to expect that, not data corruption and stuff...
Wow, what a nice review (or should I say terrific  )Quote:
And now BenchZ, like you said before, lets stay on topic?
Let's corrupt the topic ( in a 790i fashion :p: )
[ just kidding :D ]
That would be sort of like spam (since 790i has sooo many different stories from all of us) :ROTF:
Btw, there is not much activity in the ASUS forum. At eVGA, people are desperate. Over here, Im still waiting for the price to drop.
BTW, I asked this on the other topic but I would like to ask this here as well, is anybody besides OBR using a RAID with nvidia Mediashield and Getting corruptions?
I might be getting another Raptor but killing them, hell nah I wouldnt tolerate that. I might use my old 100gb drive to test the 790i whenever I get it.
For ntune to work

Ok Here you go Striker II Extreme Owners, I have collected every single BIOS out (except for 0101 and 0402), try AT YOUR OWN RISK. All this BIOS files here came from users that posted them here in XtremeSystems.org so they should work with no problems but again since I dont own the SIIE I havent tried them. I TAKE NO RESPONSABILITY. Remember all of this are BETA BIOS files!.
ASUS Striker II Extreme BIOS 0507
ASUS Striker II Extreme BIOS 0508
ASUS Striker II Extreme BIOS 0509
ASUS Striker II Extreme BIOS 0511
ASUS Striker II Extreme BIOS 0512
Hopefully this will save the time of many people looking for specific BIOS releases :)
I've got something better :D
BIOS collection ( sorry I can't include 1 specific BIOS ) and a bugs-list attached with each BIOS ( bugs that I've found ).

i subscribe the thread.....
running sometimes (when I have time..:() the Evga 790i + Cellshock 1800....really great rams
http://news.tecnocomputer.it/stuff/F...dm03_68773.JPG
didn' tested BW and have to upgrade to P03r2 to see if something changes.
My problem right now is to pass 400 Mhz fsb...there seems to have a wall in my configuration ( Q6600 G0)...really strange...
CapFTP, read this:
http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=...1&key=񌤘
EVGA's new bios should be out soon fixing the problem with the Q6600 G0.
thnx Gylen, hope I can test soon....(quite) happy to know i'm not alone.
Ok, why would you do that :( 2 posts with the exact same thing (except that you dont point you dont guarantee anthing, so there is a warranty with your BIOSes :D )
Only 0511 and 0512 have "bugs-list" -.-!
And I would have rather prefere that you didnt mention that misterious BIOS instead of mentioning it and saying I CANT POST IT... :para:
No signs of P04 as of 4:17pm (FL time)
You know it takes time to test all the BIOSes thoroughly.
The bugs-list will get populated as soon as I find bugs.
Apart from that... I have a life, a job, and lots of reviews to do ( just FYI it takes me about 170 to 190 hours for a motherboard review, and I've got three of them here for review ;) )
Simply put, I can't focus on finding all the bugs for every S2E BIOS right now.
Got it a few days ago and did most of the build today.
http://mysite.verizon.net/drose20619...StrikerIIX.jpg
Put it in a Lian-Li case, Ultra 1000W power supply, and Lightspeed phase cooler.
Starting with a QX9650 CPU, OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 FlexXLC Edition and FireGL V7600.
Will use Koolance Exos 2.5 for auxiliary cooling.
Plan to upgrade to a Nvidia 9800 GX2 when blocks are available.
Will probably be setup enough to start benchmarking next week.
Appearantly you don't have full collection heheh :)) Also you don't have lastest 0601 release :D
Full releases list:
0601,0512,0511,0510,0509,0508,0507,0506,0505,0504, 0503,0502,0501,0402,0401,0301,0205,0204,0203,0202, 0201,0106,0105,0104,0103,0102,0101
List of corrected issues, is nice :)

This is far and away the best bios to date. EZ flash won't work, use AwdFlash.
fsb holes have been filled in, I'm currently playing with an E8500 and ALL of my low multi/high fsb overclocks that were metastable or wouldn't boot properly with 0511 now perform flawlessly.
You da man PMP...
Mmm tried to flash it using Asus Update 0601.bin and it says "The model of the BIOS image doesn't match the BIOS ROM currently present. Press [EXIT] button to exit."
You need to flash the new BIOS with awdflash ( bootable FDD/CD/DVD/USB )
so 601 is a winner?
Je ne sais pas ( I don't know )
I'm packing my stuff for a move.
I'll start testing stuff again this Saturday.
Im glad to hear that. Please report us with some results asap so we can have an idea how well this BIOS is performing.
Good luck my friend! Nice clocks and no data corruptions is what we need to hear :)
Like Benchz said, use awflash (old school)
So far, I hear good stuff, lets give it a couple of days...
You had to move in the most intense moment! :p:
WARNING DONOT FLASH WITH 0601...
Great now I have a dead motherboard, thanks for 0601, looks like I'm not the only sucker that got nailed....
Errr I feel your pain. Some other guy on ASUS forums also got his board screwed.
I could flash to 0601 using EZ flash (from 0512).
It seems that some of the fsb holes I had are gone: at least I can go past POST more often, getting everything stable is another story.
I might not be the right person to assess 0601 improvements:
I have really had no luck with the parts I got for my nw rig: my QX9650 hardly goes above 3.6GHz (vcore 1.325V) and my brand new cellshocks do 1800MHz 8-7-6-21 1T only at vdimm 1.9V (1.7V gives me memtests errors), so no margin to overclock :-(
Hardcase, how did you flash? ISO? floppy?
Hmmm I dont think this might have happened but prob the fiile you guys downloaded got to your pcs corrupted. Half-way download or something, Dont think so but you know sh*t happens.
I flashed with 0601.bin and running "stable" so far...
Yeah, it took around 5 min just reading the 0601 BIOS from the floppy drive, then another few minute flashing. Was going to press the reset button but had to go to the toilet! when I came back it done reading... :D
Running at 450FSB x8 on Q6600, seems stable so far, much better then the 0507 I had before.
lets just hope these issues can be fixed with a bios update, and we dont have to get a new board, even tho eVGA has the best support of any company.
P04 is supposed to be released friday, lets hope it comes tommorow.
I knew this was coming after reading this thread. I have nothing but problems w/ S2E. Corruption all the way after any change in bios, even if I set the timings manually as advertised by OCZ. I've installed Windows so many times in the last couple of days I memorized the serial # LOL!!! Tried bios 402, 508, 511, 512 and 601. I requested a RMA from egg. Only 1 question to the people who were in the same wagon as me, after you guys got a new replacement, did it change anything or the problems continued??
If you have the striker II extreme you can use the motherboard drive, throw the awdflash program on a flash drive with the bios file, boot to CD and select dos prompt, then run the awdflash tool its easy. Im on 0601 without any problems so far, going to start pushing the FSB and see what happens
Here are some pictures of my bios-settings with P03R2. Maybe it is useful for someone. This are my 24\7-Settings with 4x1GB D9GTR. When i have 2x1GB installed i just change 2T to 1T and 1600MHz to 1800MHz.

Believe me or not, but i would never intend anybody to damage bios by giving bad file...
Now - why some of us got error message (Invalid BIOS ID...) while trying to flash from EZ Flash 2.
Answer is below (changelog, for 0508). So - those who will try to use EZ Flash 2 from any BIOS earlier that 0508 - just will got that message about incompatibility, and needs to flash via AWDFLASH instead of EZ Flash 2.

still need to find P03R2 for Evga - can someone please help me find it?
What's the influence of P1/P2 on performance, and what does those options really do ?
I didn't noticed any copy/write changes (or maybe within measurment error) if i set it at Auto/Enabled/Disabled.
nVidia engineer didn't answered my question :(
have a look at the testing notes about P1 and P2 in my thread

Thank you. Definitely will spend some free time today to find out how does it affects 4x2GB configurations.
where are you guys getting this new 0601 bios from when asus dont have it available on their site ? they only have 0508 ??

also, seems that this bios disables P1 and P2 sooned than 511 did. Running 601, my r/w/c and latency dropped considerably at my 24/7 oc @ 460 fsb. had to manually enable P1 and P2 to get the performance back.
not sure I'm a fan of this new bios - back to 511 for me
i am on 0507 and still trying to get a stable o/c at 3.4mhz currently at vcore 1.4875 with pcie at 105 as this seemed to allow me to actually boot at this speed and now running prime95 for an hour so far so good failed before mind you but i upped the vcore to the new 1.4875 so hope that does the trick any suggestions anyone ?
funkflix,
Not really much help for my setup, but thanks for sharing your settings.

Hey Dinos
Do you know if 790i is able to run OC w/ 4 RAM sticks at 1T?
Also, when enabled, does P1 and P2 cause inestability with 4 Ram sticks?
