also is everyone aware that the watch dog trick works on this board?

I noticed it playing around the other day.

If you get bios lock and system want start you can hold insert when you power it up and start tabbing delete.

It will post saying INS what held and overclock failed but like 7 out of 10 you get back into bios with out having to clear and in some cases all settings are still there...

Good point. AMD has posted the patch for errata 298 on the x86-64 mailing list here.
But looking at the source code the patch is a workaround for errata 254.:shrug:
Can be it are two TLB related problems, whom can both be fixed just by disabling the TLB.

Discount my results until I can pick up another since my chip is buggy at stock -> no boot, cannot up and down the NB and so on. This is supposed to be a stock option.

Works on my board @ times. Not always though but I hardly ever have to clear CMOS anyway but for the things that make it unbootable for 10 hours plus. :)

You don't need 1.6V for 3.3GHz on X2 5000 BE+. At 24A per core, many are getting 3.3GHz stock volts, I had mine at 3360MHz stock volts stable, which is 1.35V. If it's dual chips on one die they would both run the same at the same TDP. Like Kentsfield, the TDP is just double (65W x 2 = 130) for the MCM.

I know. :) Just want to add dual core k8/k10 values. The TDP calculations I made where for an theoretical overclocked dual core k10.
Looking at the dual core values I can understand why they focus on lower power consumption first, as the BE-2400 has a 45W TDP vs. the approximated 70W a dual-core K10 whould require atm.

I appreciate your comparison as the 65W TDP cpu compares better vs. the phenom due to the similar TDP. I'll order an 5000BE this week for an office-rig and put my 3800EE in it instead.

Had it a few weeks ago, it was DOA (never booted) and I've not had it back since. My procedure is quite lengthy since I don't buy them myself so it's not me dealing with the supplier or retailer, it'll me the IT management at my uncles firm dealing with their distributor or usually AMD, and so it takes longer for me to get something since they cover many queries at once i.e., I drop it back there when I get time (500 miles away), they then work something out with their distributor/AMD, then retake, redelivery to them, I get informed by whoever finds out and I have to wait to drive 1000miles there and back again to pick it up. :(

BTW, AMDs SB600 gives higher ATA133 IDE performance than P965, P35. However the SATAII performance is worse on my board than the UDMA6 IDE HD. :confused:
In 32MB sequential read using HDTach, I get 20MB/s more for the IDE HD than the 2x SATAII HDs I've tried.

TDP compare: No problem. :)
My main point is, clock per watt, oc'd clock per watt, at the same fab process, one revision earlier, K8 core still clocks higher within the released Phenom TDPs, whereas K10 core stops at a low point. Hence there is something with the K10 core stopping the clocks and it cannot be just design materials (SOI) since it's this same SOI with much worse transistor performance/leakage that can produce higher clocks at the same TDP in K8.

What is your average read speed? With an 500GB Sata II HD i get 56MB/s with my 8 year old 20GB IDE 12,5MB/s.

They had problems with higher clocks on the first K8's in 65nm too. Can be there is a leakage problem with the L2/L3 cache as there are no 2MB L2 65nm k8's also.

I also miss out on viewing any latest tech. they have there and since they have many large departments you can get to see some unreleased products being demo'd or tested at times. Companies send their reps there for presentations and demo's. Also I like to work with the engineers and the professor that's head of lab there along with my uncle and see what they're doing because they have much more knowledge and experience than I do, as well as the right contacts, industry feedback and resources to test. You usually get to learn a lot my being there than by hearing it over the phone and I usually want to meet my uncle anyway. He's an exciting man. ;)

Yeah but K8 is inferior to K10 nFET/pFET transistor performance, these have improved current leakage over K8 rev.G2.

KTE do you know if there is any information on the vreg stuff on the board. I was thinking on checking all my voltages via DMM. I would like to know what the readings for the following are via DMM compared to software

VIDs you can't check by measurement since they're values placed within the core for P-States. They're not voltages. Voltages you can check.

I tried 2.6GHz by just multiplier (1.52V 1.45VID) and absolutely no way on my system (unlike what I said to you earlier). The limit is 2.53GHz with or without multis. My system failed bootup for 10 hours and I kept pencil modding the resistors to change VCore values. It was 1.12V. :rolleyes:
After quick modding it only reached 1.19V max but that still did not get a boot. Super I/O chip at that time read wrong values compared to MOSFET measurements, it read 1.08VCore and 2.47VDIMM.

NB CPU voltage = IMC voltage.
NB voltage = RD790 voltage.

On K9A2 Plat. you can measure at the MOSFET legs before the DIMM slots to find the real VDIMM. You can do the same for the CPU but it's better done at the inductors. I haven't found where to measure NB voltage since I never needed to change it from stock and at stock it's at 1.1V. Also it's too cramped in there to measure anyway.

CPU diode temperature at idle with Cool'n'Quiet enabled (throttles the voltage down to 1.3V and cuts the CPU speed in half at idle for each core) is 95F (35C), max load temp with 4x prime95 affinity large FFT is 122F (50C) with the Koolance on auto-fan (speed 3 out of 10) and the pump at about 1/3 speed. Pump at half speed + fan forced to speed 10, temp came down to 110F (43.3C).

People can still get that on water. He doesn't need high NB/HT/RAM volts and the BIOS he's using means 2.7GHz is like 2.3GHz, I hope someone tells him that. Thanks for the link though, all info helps. :)

Worked at a german car manufracture in an lab for virtual assembly manufacturing. We had an SGI Onxy II, datagloves and headsets with magentic tracing there. The sgi chefs themselfes stepped by and the chief developer of theit gfx system tought me tricks with the graphic cards. Beside that we had reps for new headsets, tracing and force feedback equipment there showing new stuff.
Unfortunately the lab got cancled together with the project cause it was unprofitable. So I can understand your causes. ;)

Must dig my benchmark tabulations think i have results from the m2a-vm. I have an asus barebone with an nvidia am2 mobo whom I can test.
I used non ahci mode here for sata II benchmarks, ahci locksup my system after a minute uptime, but that seems to be an sb600 issue.
But the UDMA6 results are really pretty good.

A heads up to anyone that decides to try the new beta bios A7376AMS.P0F, it auto set the ram to 1066mhz and i have 800mhz ram. I thought it was a bad flash untill i took one stick out and it did boot. It also would not save any settings. I tried setting the ram manually to 800mhz but it would then not reboot without a cmos reset. I finally got it working again by booting to usb and flashing back to the 1.13 bios. On the bright side their were some good new options, it allows you to enable or disable the tlb patch and change the multiplier without messing with p-states. Hopefully they will get the bugs worked out and release a similar official release.

Just a update I'm managing to run prime at a setting that gives 11953mbs in sandra on some pc6400 gskill 2x1gbhz...

Also it's at 272fsb.

My memory is ddr2/1000 I might actually give it a try if I'm feeling squirley later on tonight... ;)

I may try another AMD chip that overclocks better. Phenom overclocking is just depressing. Not to mention, I have been hanging around in the Intel section where folks are getting 4.7GHz with the new E8500s.

While C2 or the QX oc's far better air/water (there's no doubt about it since long) with retail <E8400/Q9550, I doubt it. Not what I'm seeing at all, stuck sub 3.7-4GHz <1.5V. I'll pick up a retail E8400 very soon if not this weekend anyway. Intel started the games again with this commanding position of offering crap locked multis even though the chips are capable of more with a higher multi. But E8500 here is no where found, none of them are yet and the E8500 is 200USD more than the 9500 here. <E8400 will be same price as 9500 here.

272MHz is very high. My chip did 270ish max and it ran 265HT perfectly at 10x, so try for more. Maybe you need better cooling.

Nope I haven't. Maybe I should try a 9x muilti tomorrow. Yes my temps do concern me at this point on air. I did however manage to run alittle lower vcore.

You know what... Phenom is mysterious, I've had it for almost 3 weeks, I've kinda treated it like a new car. I'll be nice to it most times, but I'm not afraid to take it out on the highway either, and I'm not gonna Drive 55! :D

I'm probably crazy... But I always feel like theres that little something missing that will make this chip shine, whether it be Bios, OS, Drivers, Software, SB700 or my Tweaking ability....

I can't find the link right now, but I think it was Tom's Hardware (Don't Hate!) that showed the Phenom kicking butt on UT3, seems like the programmers spent alot of time on multi-thread for that game and it did really well on Phenom.....

But your absolutely right.. That 5000 BE is looking pretty tempting for $99!

Time depends on clock speeds most, simple as that. If you want to see 1M times, then Wolfdale is the way because AMD is never been fast at it.
Throw a 2.8GHz clock speed and get your best 1M and post it back. ;)

RAM voltages still increment in 0.1V (In BIOS)

I've not had a Phenom boot since 14hrs now since flashing that BIOS and setting 200 13.5x (2700) @ 1.45V...

How many of you notice that your Phenom (like mine) has a problem with high VCore/VID and high multi specifically? :confused:

Meaning any of these at low CPU speed can cause a crash/no boot/freeze.

yep I have noticed that also with higher multi for sure.

I seem to have another issue when I set 2.3 for ram it changes in HWmonitor. when I set 2.2 it changes to that also but when I set 2.1 it doesn't change I haven't tried lower 2.05 or 2.0 but I thinking that I might be stuck at a 2.2vddim as my lowest allowable.



I would for sure like to see a more wide spread voltage pattern as I dont like changing ram with .1 increments.

Addition; you may also crash/freeze your system if you select a too low CPU/NB speed with a high CPU/NB VID. A balance needs to be achieved it seems.

I'm good Bro, Crucial RAM sticks do 4-4-4-4 600 easy at 2.2V on P35, so 2.2V 1066 boots 3-5-5-15. I mean 1.8V 1066 5-5-5-15 boots perfect. ;)

ATM this BIOS doesn't allow over 550 on RAM speed, it just reboots. And it seems RAM can only boot 2.1V and its setting bootup stock speed as oc'd (below).

Yeah, quick update part 5000: :(

*It 'aint the AMD CPU which is freezing. It's something other related to either MB/RD790/PLL/AOD. Because my chip has now started going whacko and boots stock (defaults) at 1.184V 2369MHz and 1.8V DIMMs. So when I try to underlock it to 2.3G after bootup, it freezes at 2.32G, 2.34, 2.35G. :confused:

This is why I said it's all just so flocked up and convoluted!!

*Also, I tried some cold at work v.quickly and whilst it booted -15C, the oc limit was still the same and now my temp sensors inside the cores have stopped working -> stuck at 0C. Even the internal tjunction sense is reading a little too low, usually it was at 33C idle in this environment 1.192V and now its at 23C, which is ambient. So its incorrect.

*And whilst my chip never booted 1.184V (reboot loops) I thought I'd get into Windows and P95 test and bench 1.184V idle/1.176V load 2.3G to see what happens. Well whadya know, it runs it perfectly fine, I gamed it after that:

*BIOS P0F even wth the patch disabled through the BIOS still degrades perf by a long margin. 1880KB/s compression to 666KB/s.

*People talk about "IPC" a lot but I don't know if they're unaware or not understanding enough but IPC is never constant and differs with every sort of software (instructions) used because some instructions are more complex and do more useful work than other simple ones, thus most software never utilizes max IPC capability of a core even for 1% of the runtime. Thus some software only utilize 0.8 i/c while others can get 2 i/c out of the same core. Those utilization near the maximum of the architectural limit show better perf. quite obviously and higher CPU power usage.

For instance. I ran benches and looked at IPC and L1/L2 accesses. Any benchmark/software which accesses L1 greatly with high IPC=higher power draw. As an example, Super Pi 32M only used maximum IPC of 0.8 i/c whilst EVEREST FPU Julia used 2.5 i/c and Prime95 utilized 1.7 i/c fixed (hence the power -> v.high each core utilization). Any software which can utilize near the maximum IPC limit with complex instructions will in effect perform far better than if it used simple instructions with low IPC usage. You can see P95 above and EVEREST FPU Julia here:

No idea about others but this is the case with mine. Writes to HD by SuperPi are being denied which is adding latency/wasting clock cycles because until that data is written the calculation doesn't move on. Out of 37,xxx events a minimum of 500 (v.reserved there) were write failures and another 500 were just rewrite attempts. Why? The reason given was "too fast I/O". See below for what I mean:

You might try running it from a ramdisk.

No higher with cold, it was a 10 minute test at work mainly to check for CB. In fact not even a hair over 2.5G this time. Dropping the chip off in 2 hours and starting my Q6600 G0 up instead.

Gained ~50MHz here lowering the load temps from 64&#176; to ~40&#176;. Have you tried it with a lower vddc?
EDIT: Saw you did in your other post
EDIT2: Have you tried the latest coretemp should handle temps in the range -49&#176; - 206&#176; maybe it's an everest issue.

Those above tests were with the Promise controller in IDE mode (AHCI causes BSOD). I don't remember the perf. with SB600 and I can't find any saved pics of it either. I'll give it a try soon. ;)

Lol, just tried it here and gained 3s in sp1m at stock, ~1s in xs sp1m.
EDIT: Had CnQ enabled, without it this difference is marginal ~0,1s. Do you know if super pi counts while disc operations?
Make shure you set Start=1 for the FastFat Service in the registy (HKLM\System\CurrectControlSet\services\FastFat).

Installed system with the drivers integrated and sata in ahci mode. It worked and I can boot into windows but it freezes after ~1 minute. Did not yet look into it again, as ide mode worked.

TBH, I preferred the GFX and the temps on the Phenom platform but I prefer the consistency, ease and overclock performance on the C2Q one. It's at 3GHz now with 1.28V passing 12hr load testing with ease. ;)

Also, I don't really see it as some onliners seem to. To me, they're just two companies. I choose and use what I want. At home I use a laptop nearly all the time anyway, and at the work places I use both alternatingly. They both cost different and Phenoms are selling like hot cakes here just because of the low platform costs. OEM is where all the majority desktop sales take place and those customers don't oc, they look at cost before anything. I'll still keep up with the news here since I'll have another BE very soon. :)

This actually puts my memory at a slight OC (rather than underclocked) and the NB/HTT at 2Ghz... I haven't done any benchies yet, just testing for stability right now, but so far it's looking pretty good. :D

It seems like the cores just don't want to go much over 2.5 regardless of how many V's I put to it, Heat has never been a real problem even @ 1.4v on the cores they never went over 40c at load. I may drop the CPU to 9.5 and try for a little higher on the HT Ref though...

A little off topic, but has anyone found a way to improve SATA HD performance, it seems pretty weak but it may just be a limitation of the SB600.

I noticed the 2.5ghz thing also which is why I'm at 2.45 ATM.

the regular winsmp you can manage to get it to about 2.6 stable but as soon as I start using vmware 2.5+ isn't much of a option. I have played with this thing alot and I have to try and gain some ground on my folding team as rank 130 just isn't gonna cut it.


prime/memtest/vmware/toast/32mb super/3dmark looping is all something I want this thing to pass. I don't want to have to downclock just to be able to run a app and as it seems there is a few that I have to do this with.


and I think your right for some reason I had better luck with 10.5x, 10x, 9.5x over 11x but I think as you stated 9.5 may be where it's at. I really wish I could figure this thing out. I mean it will post and go to the windows loading screen at 2.8ghz 14x200 but freezed at loading screen, and this is with about 1.425 vcore. If I up that to 1.5 is still does the same thing even at 13 x instead of 14.

Just out of curiosity, have you tried lowering the V's across the board?

I've had mine since the end of December and it's been my experience that higher voltages seem to cause more instability... IDK if it's current leakage or crosstalk or what but that's what I've been seeing with my chip..

As an example, when I was first playing with the HT clock I set the CPU VDDC to 1.3, took it up to 242ht (unstable), bumped vddc to 1.35 and it would freeze at Windows boot screen. So, I lowered vddc to 1.26 and dropped all other v's (expect Mem vddq) 1 bump down in bios, and managed to inch everything up to where it is now.... Which seems stable!

I've been around long enough to know that no 2 chips act the same, but it might be worth a shot for ya...

Which ports are you using for your drives?

In IDE mode SATA II perf. on the MSI board is ~16MB/s better in Av.R than on a P35/ICH9R board. I've tested both recently. For AHCI, install the drivers properly with the set procedure and you can find out. Achim outlined it a few posts back if you didn't install the SATA drivers at Windows install.

On my last BE, 13x, 14x and 15x (200HT) posted and loaded windows but then failed when the OS desktop is supposed to be showing up (just stayed black).

At dave I have not tried that yet but I did notice the same thing maybe I should try lower then 1.392 as that is the lowest I have tried so far :D

I just didn't want the vcore to be a limiting factor but by all means as you stated and as we have all seen it is possible to run a high clock with lower vcore on some cpus / computer part.... (tccd ring a bell)

Same thing. If the chip will post at 2.8 or 2.9 or 3.0 but then crashes while tring to load the desktop then IMO there is some form of error happening here (TLB). It doesn't matter what voltage you add to it or how much you take away it pretty much does the same thing and freezes on desktop or at login screen.


In my pass experience I have always test max cpu by what it would load windows at. ie max SS :D but for some reason we seem to have a problem via/ driver/mobo/bios/setting/etc.


I'm thinking it could have a great part to do with the ram but for some reason I get better clocks at auto. Since the cpu/ram latency is so tight then maybe we are trying to high(tight) memory settings. I'm at around 245 fsb with ram at 815 or something like that as I notice errors (crashes) with ram above 1000....

I'm using ports 1(HD)+2(DVD) on the SB600, I tried it on the Promise T3 and it was even worse. I must have missed that post by Achim, I'll go back and look for it... My drive has NCQ so it would be nice to be able to use AHCI.

I cant get back to my 272 fsb as I was gonna try higher with a lower muilt but for some reason 9 want take at that fsb 9.5 will however but that puts my cpu out of range.

It was running 1t as thats what auto was setting it to. I'm testing max cpu/fsb not just one but both as I'm ready to let this thing start folding 21/7.

Well actually It was nothing atm. Its weird if you run to high of vcore at high clocks core 3 fails if you run to low of vcore core 1 or 4 fails...

I have managed to get back where I wanted it at around 2.56 stable but above that is fishy.

If I use 5 5 5 15 19 2t timings I get worse results then with 4 4 4 13 24 2t. Not sure whats going on here fixing to play with it alitte as for last night I had to drop the vcore down below 1.4 to get above 2.6 to run over 5 mins in prime 95. Also droped the ht and NB voltage helped. There has to be some sort of setting that makes the cpu get to it's max....

Ok got my hands on some HyperX ramies

I got myself 2 1 gig sticks. KHX8500D2K2/2GR they are rated 1066mhz 5-5-5-5-15 2.2V

Same problem no boot with 2 sticks in the machine. I've tried turning the timings up with the ram. Put voltage at 2.2 no post with two sticks. Post fine with 1 stick. Didnt try 1066 yet, with this stick

The timngs on the stick by spd auto puts this stick noticable slower then the cosair dominators.

So think I should just buy some lower 6400 ram. The only ram MSI sent me compabitable with this board was Value ram from kingston. I was hoping to get a high preformance ram with this high performance board.

I just want a post, then of course working system. I'm going to play with this system alittle more and then send back these HyperX. Could it be that this board doesnt like 8500 ram? The SPD on CPUID gives it a go at 400mhz 5-5-5-5-15. So it should work for two stick in this board.

I'm thinking it's the board. Or the CPU

I havent bumped up the HT or CPU to get the ram working would that do anything? If so what.

2 problems..........


1. If I run a 1:2 ratio on my ram I can run a 9 or 9.5 x multi and get to around or above 270 fsb and around a 2.6ghz clocks speed.

2. If i run 1:1.66 (I think the lower on not higher) I can't run a 9x at all hardly without bios hang, and I can get about 261x9.5 (262 want load and anything higher forget it) and it will error out in prime in less then a min. SO with this ram divider the max cpu clock I can get is about 2.45ghz.


All other setting stay the same. I don't get this if the ram is at ddr2 1000+ it runs fine if I try to drop the muilt to get it to around the ram specs the cpu has issues can anyone verify this?






I don't want to shot 2.3vddim into my ram to max out the board/cpu but this looks like my only option atm ( i do have another set :D)

What tRC are they rated for? Make sure you get that right at bootup and set tRFC to 105ns. My MB was setting tRC to 15 and I had no boot for a while.

Brain, that's dreadful. Which BIOS are you using?

Have you tried different RAM slots with one and two DIMMs installed? Is there any one slot that won't work?

Have you tried Ganged and Unganged mode with two sticks?
Which slots are you insering two sticks in?
Have you tried insering them in the same color slots?

Boot with one DIMM installed and then post back your CPUZ SPD tab info (screenshot).
Also, at the same time check the voltage it sets for CPU, RAm in AOD and check the VIDs it sets for CPU and NB (AMD Power Monitor). Post back an image of what you find.

Mine ran fine, but, when you say "ran fine" what do you mean exactly, did you stability test? :p:

The ram only thing I change was the 4 setting on each to 195ns and put it to 2t.

Yes prime95 is what I'm referring to.

If I run a 1:1.66 at the same timings I cant get over a 2.46ish clock on the cpu. If I run a 1:2 on the ram (same timings) I can get 270ish and above. Y would the chip be limited with a lower ram divider? or the board.


AOD no thanks haven't used it but maybe 3-5 times all of which cause the system 2 freeze and I'm not looking for that memset dunno about it :D

hey im having problems with mine, i load up everest cpuid and it locks the program up. i cant view temperatures, do i just need to reinstall the mobo drivers?

you can use coretemp or Hardwaremonitor to check the temps of all the cores.

Hi Dave,

I installed wxp with a cd who hda driver packs integrated with discs in AHCI mode. So the AHCI drivers where installed during installation.
I can boot into windows but the system freezes after a minute so i had to switch back to compatibility mode.
You can prepare yourself a floppy with the ahci drivers and use it during windows installation if you don't want to make a customized windows cd.

A good basic starting procedure when you want to overclock. Fine tuning timings does help many times.

I have been reading this and the Overclocking the 9600 BE thread and waiting for a MOD to update my account..

Here is my Phenom 9600 BE story.

I have

k9a2 platinum, Phenom 9600 BE.
I was able to get to 2.7G stable (multiple days of seti, folding, other BOINC stuff, prime95) at 100% processor load.

I am using the msi ver 1.2 bios (I updated from 1.1 but I haven't tried any of the others).

To get to 2.7G I had to up my CPU VID setting to 1.3 volts but that is all.

Now I am running at stock HT ref freq and memory freq (800MHz).

When I try to get the memory to 1066 MHz (I am using 1066 crucial mem) It will not boot.

I will post photos later (I am at work right now).

Ah, well then, you need to keep the RAM sticks at stock best possible. You need to test your RAMs capability before you start oc'ing because in your case, it sounds like your RAM is holding you back (settings found in Memset fully).

Find a setting with timings/subtimings/volts (sub 2.25V IMO) which makes your RAM fully stable (Memtest/Prime95blend/Systool 32M) at sub DDR2-1000. Then drop to a low RAM divider (1:1.33 is good) with those volts/settings and start oc'ing to find the max HT ref/GHz.

My RAM boots CAS5 DDR2-1450 at 2.35V perfectly, so when I'm testing HT ref./NB/HT/CPU I'm well clear of its limits, thus can know where the problem lies. ;)

1066 memory won't run, don't even try it, it will give you no boot and make yu clear CMOS before booting. Only some BETA BIOSes run it.

1.2 BIOS has the TLB errata patch enabled. If you want to try the latest BETA BIOS, it allows you to turn the TLB patch off (better performance) and allows running 1066 RAM. However, it won't run anything below 1066 RAM at stock HT ref. bootup, I'll warn you that much.

2.7G for 1.3V looks very promising although rare so far, sadly.

I want to try the newer BIOSses sometime. I just haven't had the time

I really don't want to revert to 1:1.66 divider as I said cpu clock is to far off with that divider. However I will be testing it again and post the SS of 1:1.66 in a few hours maybe.

for those trying to help me, aka jonspd.

i installed using the cd it came with, this is a new OS and it worked fine on the last one that ended up dying due to hard drive corruption. loading up cpuz is fine, with everest's cpuid, memory testing, or any other part of everest locks the program up. i can run the stress test but i leaves the temp graph blank and the cpu load one works fine, but i cannot click on preferances, its greyed out.

also speedfan does not detect cpu temps either, core temp is working fine however.

either way it seems windows is not detecting motherboard sensors properly and i would like to reinstall them, but since its the mobo were talking about, i wanna make sure i dont screw things up in the process.

I was thinking of getting the DFi board but after reading this thread looks like I am gonna own a Platty again.

The everest is a beta and not an official release. There is a few problem with it and some of the stuff doesn't work in it however I don't have a problem with it reading my temp in the temp graph make sure you have that check under that tab.

ok weird, i loaded up some other apps and was gonna do some OCing without everest, and then i said screw it ill still use it to stress the system. and everything was working just fine. i dont care all i know is things are weird for my comp and always will be

It is a partial switch off, it restores ~70% of the performance in some software but not in others. Performance will still be slow, especially anything which depends on memory bandwidth/latency.

It's the same with thre BETA BIOS I mentioned actually. Perf. isn't the same with a BIOS without the patch at all (like BETA 1.3 and earlier)

So you're at +520 on 400 RAM? Have you tested Memest to see if your RAM is stable at that speed? I hope you have good RAM that can run that stable, ProMOS and Elpida chips won't, however Microns will run that and higher with ease.

The values I'm looking at are tRC and MaxAsyncLatency. They usually would need to be higher for stability of 400MHz RAM.

That's the same problem with my use of EVEREST too. I don't recommend using it apart from preliminary testing though, it doesn't test CPU/RAM as rigorously and properly as done by P95/OCCT/Memtest/gaming/Videoing and the temps/power don't reach what they do with P95/some benches/OCCT neither did it catch easy errors caught by others, so its not an ideal reflection of common day to day loads. Because when load testing, you need to simulate max core load to show the core is stable no matter what as the core load-line voltage willl fluctuate under arious loads and thats what will decide if your core is stable/unstable.

Opening these software made EVEREST start reading incorrect values?
If so, what exactly is being read incorrect?

Which EVEREST test did you run?

Opening AOD before oher monitoring tools is a regular thing I did because its buggy and unstable if another hardware monitoring s/w is opened before it -> not when after it though.

Same thing with many softwares, even HWMonitor. ;)

Max Async latency.... not sure how those stick go exactly, but 40-42 should be easily fully stable. :)

Cool and plus memset will help me figure out the difference between the 2 different ram ratios :D

Ok this is to help me get my HyperX ram working in this board

I have bios 1.2 offical. I have just one stick installed in slot one right now.

I have not tried placing the sticks in the same color slot. The manual does say to do that. But I'm all for trying it if it will help. That would make it run in just single channel correct?

So here goes some pic of my settings

First of all, a few quick pointers to you oc maniacs. :p: :D

Try these HT*Multi, if booting these then surely wait at least 3 minutes before resetting if it doesn't boot 1st time.

1. Keep NB 8x multi and try 240 x 11 (2640)

2. Keep NB multi 7x multi and try 265 x 10 (2650)

3. Keep NB multi 7x and try 260 x 10.5 (2730)

4. Keep NB multi 8x and try 250 x 11 (2750)

Now I know you're probably thinking "WTF, we can't even get 2.5G stable or plus 230HT so what's he talkin about??" -> but wait. :D

When I tried oc, Phenom had holes and hotspots. Those above combinations were the most stable and best for me and they worked with very good volts/temps.

Make sure to put 1.2VID or 1.25VID and try 1.475VCore too until you get it stable, then try lower. I'd like to see if those combinations run good for others (see the RAM though, it will be plus DDR2-1000)

I usually had 75ns but for high HT ref. you'll probably need 1st DIMM at 105ns and the rest at 75ns should be fine. MaxAsyncLatency affects bandwidth.. a lot.

12.5k should be quite easy. ;)

Different color slots is dual channel, they wrote the manual incorrectly. ;)

Your tRAS should be higher to 18 and your tRC should be 23 at 1.8V to stay inside rated specs. Those may add instabilty to your system unless you know it can do better.

Could I jump in here and ask how you got the Mem VVT not to be grayed out in AOD? thanks

That is true those were not default spd settings. I tighten them up because the game were a bit laggy with only one stick of ram. I ran prime95 for 15 minutes with no errors or warnings and played a little Call of duty 4 and Crysis with no problems with those timings.

What I really want to know is a good number to throw the HT at to make these ram work. That is the only thing I havent tried. I will try tomorrow. If nothing. I'm going to switch processors to see if the board is bad and cant handle 2 sticks.

You'll first have to run defaults and then oc>test each component individually or you just won't know what to blame and guessing will make you error when judging. Find your RAM limits or CPU limits first, whiever way you want to do it. :)

Probably will, never tried 1.32 or P0H. The performance with <1.3 BETA was just not there with any other BIOS since then, they all slowed everything down even when the patch was disabled through the BIOS. IDK why that is, frankly.

I mean, in the P0F BIOS with TLB patch off, WinRAR gave me 666KB/s at a speed (possibly 2.3G/2500/1066) whilst 2.2G/1800/800 gave me 1901KB/s in 1.3 BETA. :shrug:

Same pattern with Sandra, with wPrime and with EVEREST.
