this is from my frd, luckily I still own a pair of double side which can run at DDR 1400.

Well, maybe if you're still having the live chat, you could ask the representative about the chips. But I hope r00n will know what they are ( and he should change his RAMlist about the product number ending 8FE5 or 16FD?, don't know the last digit/letter ).
I still hope my set of 5300 will use D9GMH, but shipping from the US will take some time.
Just bought 2 sets of Crucial Ballistix 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 from newegg
I think they are D9 chips they can do DDR2 1066 at 5-5-5-15 at 2.2V
BL12864AA663.16FD4
One of the heat spreaders was barely attached so I took a picture for you guys.
i heard something like Micron has stop producing D9GMH's is that real ?
had a set of old micron d9gmh ballistix (8500) and wanted another set for 4gb and received .8FE5 (8500) new revision and started testing with them with 4dimms for a 24/7 o/c.
so far completely stable:
Q6600 450x8 1.37v
P5k-e
4dimm: 5:6 540mhz 55515 2.0v Plvl 1
subtimings auto
nb: 1.4v (lowest)
nb ref: auto

I used to have the exact same memory configuration as you, had about the same results. Actually comfortably got to 555 @ 2.19v and ran trouble free for 2 weeks and then the new revisions started to give me errors.
single side can't go to 1200CL5 no matter what voltage
not to mention CL4......................
got a refund from crucial already!
I can just say their service is good!
Man, You ain't kiddin. I have had two sets of 8500 8FE"x"'s in the last two months and called tech support. They said they are sending me a new batch. We'll see when they get here. Funny thing "Brad" at Tech support told me when I asked about which D9's they were having problems with and he said that "they are not all D9's." WHAT?! I thought they were all Micron D9's i said. No they are all Micron but not D9's. Guys, what's Brad talking about? Does Micron make other model IC's?
hmm wonder how long mine will hold out at 2v lol. such crappy ic's on their high performance ram.. looking preemptively like a bad revision and worth steering clear of if you want over 2.1v (1100+) 24/7.
had my good old gmh at 2.15v 600mhz 54410 for a year before this.
here is my good old pair!
http://i95.photobucket.com/albums/l1...stix600CL5.jpg
I have gone thru 6 sets of this ram so far with no luck, all single sided PC8500. I am now testing sets 7 & 8 and for a couple of hours I thought I had found something that worked both sets seem to have the same bin# on all 4 sticks CL1118N.NX I left the timings on auto as that is the only way it will set the timings correctly on my board.
wouldnt run at 800mhz without memtest errors, switched to 1066 and ran fine with memtest for 4 hrs, then ran P95 small fft for 2+hrs as soon as it got to 40K test got the BSOD  now have errors at 1066 in memtest. same pattern of degradation as the other 6 sets. I have tried voltages from 1.9 to 2.25 it doesnt make a difference, tried changing FSB & NB voltage, but, at some point you have to say enough is enough. I have 2 more sets arriving tomorrow which will probably be single sided and if those dont test out, then I am switching to G.Skill, Crucial has been good for a while, but these latest single sided dimms are junk and shouldnt have been released, I know DDR2 prices have dropped like a rock and the suppliers are trying to move inventory but this is rediculous
That's exactly what happened to me. At what point is Crucial going to do the right thing? I hate being stuck in this rma loop of theirs. If this new set doesn't work I might just sit on them for a while till they fix this issue they are having. I'll go ahead and buy a new set of something else. Anyone got a good recomendation for a set of 8500 or 9600's
damn shame makes me wanna put my mushkins back in n save the ballistix for a rainy day
yep, basically that's what I did when I talked to Brad on the phone at Tech Support. I told him that the last two sets which were the 8FE"x"'s both failed within 2-4 days of use @ stock settings. He said they were going to send me different batch. I hope that means back to the double sided set. Though I had one of those 16FDX sets go bad on me first which started this whole process. Maybe this new set will work. At this point I'm seriously thinking about a different brand. The G.Skill 2x2GB 8000's look good. And Cheap. Any other recommendations?
Somewhat good news. I recieved an email from Crucial with my order number concerning the new parts they shipp 3 day UPS yesterday. I checked on the part and they are confirmed BL12864AA1065.16FD5. Those are the double sided ic's aren't they? Wonder which D9's they are? Is there a way to tell without pulling the heatsinks off? Wouldn't that void warranty? At least they aren't the 8FE"x"'s. Sorry for the questions.
Well after throwing in the towel (tested 10 sets total with all the RMA's), I just shipped my 4 sets of Crucial DDR2 1066 ram back to the egg for a full refund (they are awesome about that) and ordered the new
G.Skill F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK R - Retail, got 2 sets so I can run 8gig on my Maximus Formula
I will let you know how it works out, there are limited reviews on the new 8500 sticks but I'm guessing that they will work better than the ballistix
how can u tell if u 16 pcb layer ram?
Are there ram made with 16 layer pcb ?
Hmm. Are you sure it's not 11.5x8mm? If it's really 12 and not 11.5 it would indicate much older Micron ICs.
Yes. In terms of 1Gbit ICs you would need 16 of them to create a 2GB memory module, which is a common amount.Quote:
they use these chips coz they can make 2GB stick?
Recieved my new replacements today. Double sided 16FD5 8500's. Past 5 passes of memtest at rated 2.2v @ 1066. We'll see how long this batch lasts.
I love my current set, 16FD5, running them @ 1066Mhz -- 4-4-4-12 2T 2.17vDIMM (set 2.12 BIOS)
I could run mine @ 1008 Cas 4 2.13Volts, 1120 5-4-4-9 2T 2.15Volts and 1200 2T 5-5-5-15 2.17Volts.
Best freaking DDR2 set Ive ever used!!!
Only had them for a couple of months... Im running them under the "recommended" voltage and I have VERY good case cooling. My CPU heat sink is a downdraft type (SI-128 SE), which means Im getting some air flow on the DIMMs. Also, my side panel case fan blows fresh air on a portion of the motherboard. So far everything seems good. If my RAM dies, I guess, Ill have to RMA and hope I get another 16FDx batch...
Theses are soo much better than the Corsair XMS2 rev2.1s I had.
I have great airflow. Intake cosists of 3x120mm in front and 1 pci slot fan for my on vga and 1x120mm, 1x92mm, 1x80mm for exhaust. I also have a 80mm spot fan blowing directly on my ram and NB. I also have the Tuniq's 120mm aiding in the flow through the case. A direct line from front to back. Not to mention the 140mm in my psu exhaust. So plenty of air moving around in there.
I had my first set of 16FDx's for 2.5 months before death. Then I got the single sided mods which died within a few weeks, both sets. I asked for the double sided ic's this time around. They had no prob giving me those.
I hope you don't have probs with yours.
That is really unlucky... I wish you better luck with your current set. Hopefully mine lasts as long as possible:P
Are those red tracers available yet?
Also, will they use D9GMHs?'
I hope they do, no more sucky ct chips plz crucial...
And now i'm starting to regret why din't i get some crucial earlier on...
Those red rams will be cherry pick will they??
My DDR-800 (PC2-6400) V1, and my New DDR-1066(PC2-8500) Version 2 sticks love working together. I didn't need to up the northbridge at all, so a easy 4GB now. that makes me so happy.
Well finally had a little time to work with my new double sided Ballistix back from RMA. They are so far performing well. Hopefully will get some life out of them. We'll see.

Is there any way to tighten this up to gain in my write or copy scores?
which direction? A divider that would allow me to lower my performance lvl would mean I would loose speed. If I raise speed I will have to raise voltage. I gotta be honest with you I don't want to burn these up and have to go through rma again. Or am I misunderstanding you?
I've been banging my head against the wall trying to get my Blood Iron mobo to crack 600mhz on the memory side, with what I thought were some nice Tracer 8500 sticks that I got on close out sale late last year. Finally took out my old PB5-D for a run and seems like they like that mobo more. Easy 600 at mostly auto and 2.15v.
http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/6...defaultwj4.jpg
Will go to 620 with 2.25v but moving off strap at 400 bus speed sends Pi performance into crapper. :(
I have another pair I need to test before I try 4x1Gb set-up.
With setfsb you should be able to keep strap up to about 440~450mhz FSB i guess?
Yeppers. Thanks for the heads up. Times are going in the right direction now. :D

Can some one give me good timing for QUAD 6600 at 333 with crucial ballistix tracer 8500 2gb?
Wewt, my set should be here on monday.
Can't wait to see what kind of clocks I can pull on these things with a QX9650 and ASUS Maximus Formula... Will be sure to post my results.
2x 1GB Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500 (double-sided) @1200Mhz 5-5-5-15 2T ,2.225V :yepp:
need some help:
Q6600 at 3.6ghz, 450x8 (trying 3.8ghz stalble 24/7)
maximus formula BIOS 505
4x1gb Crucial Ballistix 1066mhz, Brand new, still in sealed box :D)
it's one-sided memo's
hope my X38 don't kill them...................:(
wich timings, Vdimm, and AUTO things should I do?
just need some @1100-1150mhz stable
should I try multi X9? wich would sound better?
i just yesterday god one more kit tracers 1066 2x1Gb , hopping to receive dual side memo's but no luck, the bullistix i got is single side and not good for overclocking at all, they can't even run @ 1000 4-4-4-4 2.2V as the old ones :( i'am going to sell them :(
A few weeks ago i recommended Ballistix pc500 to a friend of mine. After 2 weeks struggling with a bad stick he decided to go to the shop where he bought them and ask for a new pair. The old ones he had where dualsided. The store didn't want to replace both modules and gave him one new singlesided ramstick. So now he a dualsided and singlesided. He runs them on a P5k-E, but he can't get them to work properly. The board says "Overclocking failed" no matter what is configured in the bios. Does anyone have experience with running a dualsided and singlesided stick in the same channel?
I saw some1 posted before about running singlesided along with dualsided and he had the same problem as your friend, i ques your friend got no choice, to get another single sided or replace both.....
It says overclock failed even after cmos reset and loaded defaults in bios? Did you try the other dimm slots? If it still says o/c failed run the ram at 1:1 with 55515 and 2.2v and go from there. Also maybe try just resuming the post and see if you can get into windows and, if you can, run some stability tests. Also, which bios is he on? If he has flashed to another bios did he flash correctly (ie. run at default settings, flash, reset cmos, load default + save and exit)?
I'm running 4x1gb on a P5k-e, one 2x1gb set is double-sided and the other is single-sided and they having been running fine on stock and o/c'd.
Am running my double side PC8500 Tracer 4x1Go @
1000mhz 4-4-4-12 2T running fine on memtest with 2.2V
What's the lowest main timings register values possible with DDR2, say 800?
IIRC, 3-3-3-3 1T is actually lowest there is and below it doesn't change any parameter, even though you may see 2s and 1s.
How will 4 blocks of theese do with an IP35 pro?
i have problems too with 2 singles and 2 duals i cant set timmgs 4-4-4-4 @ 1000Mhz as the dual sides could and everything lower than 5-5-5-12 @ 1000 results no boot :(
fine if you are planning to set them @ 1066 5-5-5-15 i have 4 of then on that board :) but it is better to have dual or single side mem's only
with cachmem 4 of them ( 2 single 2 duals ) @ 1000Mhz 5-5-5-12 they have ~ 9800Mb/s read transfer
with 2 @ 1200 4-4-4-4 i had ~ 10700Mb/s read transfer :(
i found out that the new ballistix wont work fine with the old duals :( i run them on i955 chipset and this is the best i could do :( with the old ones i couldn't set those frequency's WTF !!!
Thanks. They're all of the same kind :)
@mjhieu: can u show us ur picture??? are u lier???:D
Yea true that this isnt hardforum!, not that I really got sumtin to hardforum tho:P
someone who knows when crucial start to send single side ballistix from the factory ?
Just got a pair and i have to say i felt something was wrong from the ones i saw on youtube,... and something is wrong indeed. I got an .8FE5 part and it only has one row of the bling lights which is a disappointment because it doesnt look as cool as the one with two rows of leds.
Oh btw, to the guys who has these.. do the lights dance around in perfect accord with each other or is the other more active than the other... cuz mine is which is pretty weird. Added to that i had to make sure it was in dual channel set up.. everest says yes, bios says yes, manual says yes.. but why are they not dancing together????
And oh have i already said, im still pissed with the fact that theres only one rwo of lights on mine one
someone who know if the problem is only with ballistix tracer or with all ballistix? (800 and 1066?) or the problem is only with Maximus formula?
cuz, i have eVGA 780i SLI and i want buy and i dont know which buy =/
.8FE5 or .16FD5
thank you
the lights are much cooler on the 16, they say 8 is a newer revision.. dunno which ones better though
Well, my Maximus is now a perfect 6/6, eating my last two sticks of PC8500.
It ran fine at 510 for a couple of weeks at default voltage, then I started seeing random BSODs, intermittent system restarts, and got countless MEMTEST errors. (Even when running at only 400) Even my cheapie ADATA and Transcend DDR2-800 work better and are more stable.
I hope that the 4 cheap sticks of Kingston HyperX PC8500 that I just ordered will last a bit longer than the 4 weeks that my last couple of sticks did.
I'm done with Ballistix.
just ordered a new set and they are single sided cant even do 4-4-4-12 @ 500mhz 1.8-2.2v, old double sided set could do 4-4-4-12 @ 500mhz 1.9v easily.
might call up crucial and see if they will take these pos single sided sticks back and replace them with doubles.
this means its worse than one which has two rows of leds?
Yeah, that's what it means.
I fried a pair of Ballistix last week, shame they were 8500 16FD5 :( I didn't want to risk getting a single sided pair though so I went for some Mushkin PC2-8500 DDR2-1066 instead, 2 x 2 GB but they at least run at their rated speed...
aaaaaaaaaaaarrrgh !!
just got as a RMA a single sided pair !! - they are appauling !
I was running 4x1gb at 1066 5-5-5-15 2.1V
these are shocking
885 CAS5 .... 2.15V ... memtest ran for 2 seconds ! - then PC started beeping continusouly
>1000 CAS5 -- up to 2.25V won't even boot !
the only way I could get memtest to run properly was to run them at 700 MHz 2.1V CAS5 ! CAS4 would boot but memtest would not even run !!
very angry call to Crucial on Monday as I could tell even without putting them in my machine that this were nothing build quality wise to my old ones ! I struggled to even fit them in the slots
re-visiting my double sided and still got what it takes 652mhz 5-5-5-8 at 2.35v 32M and 682mhz 5-5-5-8 at 2.35v cpuz validation!

All above done at 2.35v bios set :)
eva2000 - nice speeds :)
shows how poor the new stuff is !! how can they justify it as the same product !!
just ordered a pair of ballistix 8500's from dell and got them in 2 days and there doubled sided. cost a lil over $100. not bad imo but could be better. i see rebates for these but didnt want to mess with them.
wow SO angry
just got off the phone with Crucial
no dual sided RAM parts left ....
and there is nothing they can do. I told them that its not the same part (different heatsink, different ICs etc) - but they said it is the same product as its rated at the same speed - I'm not sure I agree with this. If I bought say a Mercedes and it could do 140mph .. I then had problems with it and they replaced it with a Skoda that had a top speed of 140mph ... excellent its the same product as it has one headline spec that is the same ...
They've said that as all 4 1gb modules don't form a kit - then there is nothing they can do.
VERY annoyed - asked to speak to a manager there later.
I'm left with 2 pairs of incompatible RAM - as Crucial have changed their part, that now works in my mobo at a maximum of 740 CAS5 - vs 1100 CAS5 that I had before.
I'll never buy another Crucial product again
Mark.
ah - thanks
I just feel disappointed and slightly screwed over :( - Crucial support to me has always been 10/10 - and the turn-around is great on RMAs - but this has really left a sour taste in my mouth
I've ordered some OCZ 8500 Reaper (2x2gb) now
Here's my best run so far...
@2.1v
One of the last double sided sets, bought in december last year.

http://picasaweb.google.com/d.hopero...22194728894130
well just tested my single sided stuff on their own ....
1000 CAS5 - 2.25V would not post!! what a joke
new OCZ Reaper HTPC - 2x2gb arrived today though ... passed memtest at
1140 CAS5 - 2.05V :) nice
My last result was kinda lame, and not very xtreme.
This one is much better:

I think that's about all of the fsb this board can handle.
