Wow, that's a sweet deal on those Q6600s man!
Team [XS] is on the verge of climbing two more placements to enter the TOP-50 on the world-wide F@H ladder! I can already feeeeeel the energy of our upward ascension!
All of you who are folding for our team - THANK YOU!
All of you watching from the sidelines - WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!
:cheer: LETS GO TEAM [XS]!! :cheer:
^^^ that is hair-essment, and im oh-fin-did. if you EVER wear a cheerleading uniform again, you can just FIRGIT about that beer i never said i;d buy you.
:toast: :wtf: First time i get to use that one :D
GO TEAM :woot:
Let's party Beautiful People :eleph:  :party2: :rocker:
pom poms for the... :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: :wasntme:
dude!!! 3052 SUCK
I'd be more positive and say that 3043,3050,3051,3052,3060,3062,3064 and 3065 do not blow out so much as 2653 ;) (IIRC... 3064 is worse on my machines)
I am seeing an awful barrage of assignment server errors and EUEs on 3xxx projects the last couple of days! GAAAARRRRGGGGHHH!!
:brick:
Hmm so far no issues here  Though I haven't gotten many 3xxx units lately. The one the client just downloaded is a 3062 though, we'll see what happens with it.
Strange request... does anyone have a socket AM2 CPU of some sort that they aren't using that I could borrow for a bit? I need to send in my phenom (unstable at idle, stable at full load :wth:) and I'd really rather not have to swap out board/cpu/mobo again, canibalizing fold6, and reinstall windows, just to go through it all yet again a couple weeks later when I get my replacement chip.
Just a few thoughts...
...you're sure have answered to this question "Allow receipt of work assignments and return of work results greater than 5MB in size (such work units may have large memory demands) (no/yes)" - yes?
And other projects than that p2653 are even more demanding, so hopefully you've upped cooling in every aspect. NB mounting is good to check (always), preferrably better (wc-)cooler to there, fan for mems... and so on
I know I should clean and bolt on properly my noctua nc-u6, giving few blue screens but yet not any EUEs  :D
Yup... referring to the readings of fahmon... while folding projects other than p2653... like now: taking total hit in PPD about -2300 :D (and I'm only a small folder)
I think i'm going to switch back to two consoles on my rig because the latest WUs i haven't been able to make before the Preferred deadline :( I pretty much have no time to game, or i come up short. Hopefully soon i'll have a Quad
What is your main rig? Even if you don't make the preferred you are still making the final deadline right? By how much are you missing the preferred deadline?
If it's making deadline very short a VM could be of help. Otherwise it's better sticking to two console's.
3.2ghz E4500, i've been thinking about lapping it and trying to go higher. My birthday is in 3 months so hopefully i get a Quad
A 50% OC isn't that bad for a E4500. And lapping probably wouldn't give enough extra OC, it's rather the cache which is holding it down. And off course if you regularly game on the same system, it gets hard for SMP's :)
And btw... I took my only quad down yesterday, so...
...
Oh ok, you had me worried there..
What I'm finding is that my folding rig can't make the preferred deadline running dual SMP (under 32-bit xp prof) when both WUs are 3xxx series projects. They are just too intensive.
And now that Stanford has "run out" of 2653 work...I think I'm going to just run a single SMP instance for now :(
Maybe it's time to get this 64-bit linux folding CD up and running...
I was just reading on another forum that they extended the preferred deadlines on several of the 3xxx series projects you might want to check to see if the wu's you are getting are some of them with the new extended preferred deadlines. But also setting up a Linux VMware dual Linux clients with SMP folding clients would increase the performance over the windows smp clients even at 3ghz speed my Quad cranks out little over 4.1k average ppd.
Sweet! Thanks Shadow....I clicked the "Download New Projects" function on Fahmon and got the new deadlines loaded. That helps a lot! Back to dual SMP  :D
Geez they did something to the preferred deadlines I just noticed. 24 hours from download is the preferred deadline on this WU! It takes my CPU just under 24 hours to do it too, I didn't realize that I'm barely making preferred deadlines now. That sucks. It used to be preferred 2 days and final 3 days.
No wonder some were commenting about missing preferred deadlines now. I guess it is a good thing I'm not running a dual core (even though I still need to RMA my phenom, just haven't gotten to it yet...) :shakes:
fold2 is down right now as my bro is gonna borrow the board, he's having issues and is trying to narrow down the problem. fold1 isn't hung, it says that a lot but I don't know why  fold3 and fold5 are on WCG..
That's what happened to me, it sucks:( Hoping for release version that properly utilizes four cores to run only 1 instance properly.
There is a "b" (fahmon)version thats out now

I don't know if I have been getting low point wu's or if my computer is messed up. Are anyone else's ppd dropping?

How do you check the history?
im gonna go ahead and vote myself in for an ep1c milestone. you see, i just did the dishes. Among being the greatest milestones of my life, i proved and disproved many theories. for instance, the sink is in fact stainless steel, however what was growing in it was hardly intelligent life. it took me almost three hours for me just to teach it it's name, therefore shan't be considered anything above a mac user. i would like to dedicate this important moment in history to black angus beef, which without i would never have needed a solid platform on which to place the fine bovine (unrelatedly named karl) for the utmost in precision beef slicage. id also like to thank the mormons, if it wasn't for them i;d have sent the cutco door to door salesmen on his way, but since he was the first non elder to knock on my door, i bought the knives in spite. Lastly i;d like to thank dixie utensils, though they always come second to metal cutleries, they made a huge sacrifice for the cause. lay waste are several knives two forks, and probly 20 or so plates. may they rest well, havening been killed in action before being able to serve their purpose.
Controlled substances much?

wow sc00p you actually delidded a q6600??
how did you do it?
That last pic, the only thing that seems wrong is the paste on the MCW60 isn't very uniform :p: Wait... where is the step in that MCW60? D'oh! Swapped bases between the apogee and the MCW60 I take it?
Dang sc00p, you're making me want to remove the IHS on one of mine now. Under heavy stress I get up to 10C difference in cores, but then again I need to lap my TRUE as well. Finals will be over in 3 weeks then I 'll have plenty of time to work on these little projects :D
Sheesh, if we can't trust INTEL to get it right, who can we trust
Sparky won a :hump: again :D Actually GT-top needs a little spacer between base and top with that mcw60-base (I made it chemical resistant 3mm thick sheet of PUR). It has longer pins inside you know ;) And Gpu has a much better contact area with GT-base (in theory :ROTF: )
Removal was in fact much easier than racalled since 6420. Rubber and solder were somewhat softer at q6600 than on 6420. Used a little pencil-type of gas torch... flame on it needed to be only at half of the maximum. Keeping chip on the press with all the blades wounding from aside to through rubber... IHS comes off quite easily. Used a flat screwdriver as a lever from corner of the IHS while heating aswell. Only very faint force can be applyed otherwise cores could poop off.
BTW: heated that already removed IHS and clocked... around 30-40 secs should be enough for burn. It took me 38 secs, solder fransformes in blip of an eye to almost liquid form.
Do it  But do not blow up your cpu. There's always a good chance to :banana::banana::banana:-up it
Trust no-one
Nice de-lidding, did it help in temps overclock though ( couldn't see anything in the other post :p )
Thanks for the invite btw
I'm afraid that that there's something gone slightly wrong. Cannot confirm it until I overhaul the system again :( But if you know structure of my cube... it's not going to happen very soon. IIHC is on and it's HTPC too.
Won't post anything about temps yet then.
Let's just say temps are not what they should/I expect. Could be numerous reasons for that...
...btw: I think riptide invited all of us.
I recently got the rest of my parts so those 2 Q6600s I picked up at Fry's a while back should be coming online soon. :D I've only had time to plug in one of them so far and it's VID is 1.325, but it does 3.0Ghz without too much trouble so I guess I can't really complain. Both are from the exact same batch so I assume the other's performance will be similar.
Looks like Barnacle's new rigs are online!

The FAH site says there is plenty of work for GPU clients, wtf?
Any ideas?
It isn't trying to use IE settings is it?
Sometimes Stanford gets a server glitch and that throws stuff off. Only thing you can really do is keep waiting in that case :(
The other machines were having the same problem, but eventually "picked up"
some work.Guess the trouble here is the fact that GPU client needs the work server every hour, unlike CPU clients where it's more like once a day.:)
************************************************** *****
Another issue is this Crucial kit:which seem to be missing the Jedec spec
and also running in single channel only, giving "SPD byte 23 or 25 is missing on the boot up:(
Has anyone came across something similar? I know most people here have Intel
rigs and this might be an "AMD issue".
I've not heard of that happening before with the memory..
It's my first 4gb kit and just like the saying goes there is first time for everything:eek:
I might put it up in AMD forums later on- and see what happens ;)

So my PC froze again, it seems to hate running cooler for some dumb reason? It cools off in the room (school finally turned the AC on yay, no more 80+ degree F room temps!) and th system has fits of freeze-ups. I've gotten tired of this, pulling my rig down (again :() and ripping the CPU out so I can give AMD a call tomorrow and get this thing sent in for replacement. Has to be the CPU, I already sent the board in, ram checks out fine, and the rest of the hardware is the same as when I had my old opteron. Sigh... this had better fix it or so help me I'll blow this thing to smithereens....
Hey Sparky, sorry for your troubles. I know you're an AMD loyal customer, (so was I) but it's time to surrender to the corporate giant, and get yourself a Q6600 :D
Heh well I've spent the money on this stuff already anyway, so I'm not really out anything more (except a few bucks shipping and some time I guess) to send this one in and get a fully functional one. Switching would cost me more $$$$.
Who knows... I might get a B3 in return, that would be sweet.
Sorry to hear that man,:(
could also be a "combination" of cpu/board/ram/bios/OS - Phenom is a "different beast", you that. Let us know if AMD is giving you some hard time, like saying: Well, thats
cause you overclocked it ! We'll send in our $10.000.000 man or just that many spam letters.;)
Overclock? You kid right? I haven't even gotten that far with it  I prefer to get a fully stable system first before overclocking and this system hasn't been that at all.
Perhaps I should try flashing the bios first to a newer one, doubt that has anything to do with it though since others have had no issues with the 9600BE and this board.
No I didn't get around to pulling the CPU today, didn't feel like tearing down the system to get to it
I was "paraphrasing" someone who was dealing with DFI Europe (yes the DFI that posts their "over clocking" awards on their top page) and was told, that he "broke it" if he over clocked it:rolleyes:
was trying to cheer you up , got an 9850 myself could be a full time job I know that.
Edit*****
Do you have a link for the phenom system?(mobo/ram/psu/vga) Some boards like an MSI K9a2 turns on HPET under PCIe config (high precision /"event?"/ timing) by default and WinXP does not support it.
You never know could be one of those "meaningless" "little" settings that is making the mess.
Can also try running it at the lowest RAM setting possible (400ddr) to see if it stays stable.
Hey Socketman, as long as you'll keep having issues like this I'll be able to keep ahead off you the next year ( according to EOC stats atleast )
I'm thinking you should easilly outrun me when the gpu wu's get sorted properly, don't think I'll be adding much if something at all to what's folding now the coming year :(
Anyway :wtf:
Sparky gl with the phenom, neighbour of me bought a 9400 and is thinking it's better then what I got :S Sorry to sound like an Intel fan lol but actually atm I am a fan, always liked that which gave the best bang for buck.
I haven't mobilized all my sockets just yet:devil:
It's hard to (cpu) fold with AMD,all things concidered, Sparky is a brave brave man.
Nothing wrong with having a "blue-green" mix either.
The way it stands at the moment for every GPU you need a separate PC. Hopefully it will get to a point where people can run 4 gpu's on a QC.:yepp:
Not directly relevant, but I do have a 4-GPU (soon to be 6) PC in my cluster. It has 2 QC CPU, though, so not quite the scenario you describe.
dude is this freals? my 3870 is getting 2300 ppd now. woo WOOO
birds the word!
i wonder what a quad core with 4 gpus and 4 vmwares does, agra what do you think?
http://efegs.com/someguy/pics/xs/3870.JPG
lol at this.... check it out, 0.3 PPD on this work unit! :wth:
i dunno what it was, but hte .3 ppd and the great googly moogly face made lose it. i had spatted thy shasta beer of root upon thy board of keys.
Yea looks like they've put out 2 new (gpu) projects today :4711,4712
504 & 592 credits respectively. They are larger as well (10000 "steps")

Edit: @ Angra
Thats what I have in mind :eek2::shock: (see pic) Should keep anyone warm in the winter too.
I'm pulling my main rig apart today :( gonna use fold6 as my main pc for now, I need to RMA this phenom chip soon because it is driving me nuts with the instability. Sigh :(
Wait, just thought of something... if I buy a cheap AM2 X2 CPU then I could keep running while my phenom is in RMA... then I got to thinking, hey I could pair that up with a cheap biostar board for after I get my quad back so I don't have a CPU lying around... then I realized I'd need memory so I priced out some DDR2...
$134 from newegg for an X2 4400+ brisbane, Biostar NF61S-M2 TE board, and 1GB kingston DDR2-800 memory. Oh mighty tempting....
Nice! It might just keep you out of reach till 1 Million ;)
I am at 890000 and counting come on guys you both need to crank it up some more to beat me to 1mil. :p::wave:
I really doubt I will be able to make it, but I've got all four of my quads going strong. These new work units just don't produce as many points as the 2653s we've all come to love.:poke:
I was getting around 8-9k ppd with 2 quads and a laptop, then I upped it to one more quad about the same time as all the 3065s came out and ppd went to 10k. Now I've got one more and with all the 2665s I'm still barely above 10k...

The good news: our average PPD is MAAASSSHIV! 1,800!! :woot:
Keep it up team - we are doing some serious good work here!
Well... quad core is coming out now. X2 is going in :( HOPEFULLY though this will ensure that yes my CPU is borked and I can get a new, fully functional quad CPU back, perhaps even a B3 revision, man that would be nice...
So whoever is ready to steamroll me, well, your job just got easier ;)
:(
Sorry man, but hopefully it all works out for the better...
Well so far I think I've proven my DFI board is fine and all my troubles have been that CPU. I dropped the 4400+ brisbane in the board and it booted right up, so I rebooted, set the HTT to 261MHz so CPU = 3GHz (adjusted mem accordingly) and it booted right up, priming right now. Previously I couldn't get it to boot right up with the phenom, it would take some coaxing, and playing with any CPU setting at all would make it hate my guts.
So I guess I contact AMD soon, in the meantime we'll see what this brisbane is capable of
Sparky, you may want to contact the board manufacturer and see if there's another bios available (upon request). I had issues with my Q9450 locking up with an official bios release that was fine while running dual core cpus folding. Since my update with a unreleased bios, no issues. Just a thought since they're always working on these things, plus any info you could give may help them in development.
That's a thought Sir Loin, but the thing is others have used this board model with this CPU model with the same bios and no issues, so I doubt that the bios is the problem
I'm keeping the brisbane at 3GHz, I think I could get it higher if I really wanted to spend the time working my way up there, but 3GHz was easy, now I'm just dropping volts down as low as they will go and still keep 3GHz stable. I'm hoping that once I get my phenom back its stock quad heatpipe heatsink can keep the CPU cool enough at 3GHz, that would be sweet.
*edit* blah, prime failed at 4 minutes, guess I need to bump the volts up slightly, it didn't like this drop I did.
Don't forget to put it a little bit higher before you start folding. I've seen systems hang on folding that were stable for prime but never the other way around.
Brisbane 4400+ @ 3GHz 1.425V as set in bios, everything seems happy at this setting. Going to find the vcore measure point when I get around to it so I know how accurate the bios setting vs actual voltage is. Definitely slower crunching SMP units than my phenom at 2.3GHz though. Hopefully AMD has a quick turnaround.
But if they don't send you back a 50 I doubt you'll be able to get 3GHz, that's going to demand an insane amount of power.
Right now I'm getting 2653's.
Look at this.
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.c...hp?s=&u=317103
ouch! What's going on?
Must be something with your machines. I'm running a 2653 and it's giving me 1880ppd. Win XP, dual SMP on Q6600 @ 3.3GHz. The other two cores are doing a 3064.
Threw some spare parts I had lying around together and now fold7 is up and running :D
No box for it yet though so it is just an open air system right now.
Have you checked the logfile? My guess is you are getting units that are borking early (EUEs), and the client will try them 3x before dumping the WU and core for something new. Sucks, I know. However, you may want to make certain all is good with your board with that OC, because I've had boards going south make WUs end early too. Cover your bases. :)
I ran msconfig and cleaned up a bunch of crap. When I had nothing going on memory usage was at 1gb. I got it down to 300mb or so by shutting stuff down. Shut down both clients a few days ago I went to start them back up today and now I have no internet. Effin Comcast and their crappy lines. I have no digital cable either.
I think it would be cool if we added a Windows Vista guide into the giant client installation thread. I had to run around all over the place to figure it out.
I like the idea. Most of it is similar to setting it up in XP, but there are a few things I figured out that needed adjusted. SMP can't be in program files (IIRC), UAC needs turned off... that's two differences off the top of my head.
