Difference between C2D A's and B's
Ok. You are all pretty much screaming with great OC's.
This is what I've experienced. I'm using my second C2D/ The first was E6600: L628B368 and my second is L631A454. I got my fist up to 3600 easily on the setup in my sig. My second is seeming to be a different fish... I'm now at 2990 and it was a struggle with lots of tweeking. It seems that the B chip is taking less volts but is reluctant to go over 400 fsb.
What does the different batch numbers mean (L628B vs. L631A) and what are others experiences in switching CPU's?
Hello All I'm new to this forum and new to OC'ing..
..I got a new D975xbx2 last week and when I was in the bios I noticed a Performance tab that I've never seen before. I entered it and realized that it was related to overclocking. This raised my curiosity and the next thing you know I was on Google reasearching. Every query I posted on Google pointed me to XtremeSystems.org. :) So I've read a lot of post here. I attempted overclocking for the first time last night and managed 2.3GHz. I updated my bios today, played around in the bios and managed 2856.5MHz.
Couple of questions for you guys:
1. CPU-Z indicates I have a Conroe and Core Temp Beta indicates I have and Allendale?
2. I'm using Kingston DDR2 533, do you guys have a recommended type to use, ie. Crucial Ballistix DDR2 1000 for better overclocking?
3. Finally, all suggested bios setting for a noob(myself) are welcome
I can only get up to 408 before my system would error indicating a failed bios setting.
I'm going to run Orthos until I wake up, about 9 hours from now :D
