Have not seen a baord yet that gives accurate V-core readings - you can only use them as a guide.

I know what you mean I have read hundreds, if not thousands of posts now trying to figure this all out, but I think the issue is as stated before every chip/MB/Memory is different that is why everyone has different settings. I was able to get to 3.8, (multiple LinX 20 runs and no crashes ever) with the setting in my signature under 3.8. As you can see I am using mostly auto settings and really only changing the multi to 19x, Bclk to 200, Turbo off, and Vcore to 1.33125. Everything else is auto. I hit a real wall trying to get to 4.0 ghz from both a temp and BSD/POST perspective. Only switching to the F5 series Bios made this possible but I am sure I could go higher if I go down the water cooling path as SteveRo did.
Finally got the GTZ block got tired of waiting on dtek, messed with my 920 a little last night...

temps at load??
My mobo is doing weird things...
Turn on and off constantly without posting... and then if post... reset every bios setting... thought it was a corrupted bios... so tried to put other bios versions (f3, f4j, f4m & f5e) but still happen...
Also when it was working... EIST is not working...

check this thread. it's got some good info... pretty much you should only need to hard set your memory timings and the only voltages to adjust should be vcore, vdimm, and qpi with the kind of OC you are shooting for.. anyways.. check the settings others posted for the desired clocks you want.
hey guys i am almost done setting up the rig, the threat has gone over a 75 pages. I would really appreciate it if some one could post bios settings which would help me push i920 to around 3.8ghz, i am sure a lot have already been posted, if anyone would be kind enough to link me to a post with good stable bios settings.
I really need the help because i am a complete noob to i7 ocing.
Thank you so much guys, appreciate it.
These first biosīs, F3 & F4 seem very unstable atm!? I have same issues as others have posted. With weird restarts, or for an example: If I cold boot my computer it starts for 2 seconds, then turns off for 2secīs, and then posts and boots? Every time i start the computer it does this. I know it should happen if you put wrong settings and the board resets the settings and behaving this way, but the settings are fine and it never requests new settings or so on?? I really hope someone here can direct me to the best UD5 bios, if not I really hope G-B soon released a better, many better biosīs. As there have only been released two official bios files since release? I mean cmon!? What is going on? And Thx btw in advance for any help!
didja miss my reply to your earlier comment? ;)
this is my config, it's with HT off for cooler temps since I only game on this machine, you might want to leave HT on if you are doing any video encoding or other math heavy stuff
HT off
base clock = 200 x cpu multi = 19 (3800)
qpi = 36x
mem = 8x (1600)
uncore = 3200
vcore = 1.300 in bios (w LLC on)
vdimm = 1.60
qpi = 1.340
cpu pll = 1.80
all other voltages left alone... I hard set my mem timings to 9-9-9-24 1t and disabled pretty much everything in the "advanced cpu settings" area.. these settings may or may not work with your board / cpu / mem but it should help you along the way... if you intend to leave HT on, you'll likely need a little more vcore than I am using.. like 1.325 or so.. maybe higher even.. you'll have to test it out. your mem might like a little more vdimm also.. I see lots of people using 1.66 vdimm, but I didn't need to run mine that high.. ymmv
good luck!
you guys are freaking so awesome man, i mean i just freaking love you guys. I will apply the settings as soon as I get the memory. thanks again doggies.
how f5g working out
I have a new toy to play with over the coming weeks.
Need to insulate the mobo and cpu first, planning on going subambient, at least for testing.
Flat out and sweating I expect the boreas to get cpu temps down close to single digit C at idle and ??? at load.
I will probably start a new thread over in the tec cooling forum, first pics :) -
SteveRo, interested to see what it will do for your clocks and vcore requirement, keep us posted.
I have been on F5f bios for extreme since last night....all memory secondary timings for my memory are same as F5e, vcore requirement for 4.2 is same, same stability on prime, dont see any noticeable cosmetic differences. I can only assume some bug fixes, dont know about any resume fix since my computer never sleeps, just the monitor, but it works as well as F5e did, so will keep it on mine.
haha SteveRo that is really nice, I can't wait to see the results.
How do I flash my bios without a floppy with Qflash? I've tried it and will not detect my usb stick.
anyone ?
thanks
You need to make it botable
I am now testing the UD5 with Raid 0. I am using PCMark05's "XP Startup" as a bench. With MFT.
Intel ICH10R:
XP - 4200 MB/s
Vista x64 - 2200 MB/s
Gigabyte Raid
Vista x64 - 126 MB/s
I asume MFT doesn't work on GB's solution, but even then the scores are crap for a ramdisk (acard 9010).
Is the GB solution really so bad?
Cool it's stuff isnt that good. That one in the picture didnt get good reviews.
maxpc and canucks both rated it well - see -

So is anyone using the AHCI for their drives, or is it not worthwhile? I have had it both ways, not sure there is really any performance bonus to speak of. I know that the AHCI bios detecting drives BS is getting on my nerves, why the hell can't it remember what drives are connected instead of making my boot time 15 sec longer :mad:
I haven't had a lot of time to play around, 180x20 went pretty smooth, but getting to 190 has been a mass of BSODs. I've never seen this many blue screens trying to tune a board. On all my other boards the stress testing app would let me know there was an error, this board just gives a BSOD or reboots itself :( It's kind of frustrating, tuning is a lot harder when the machine hides information from you. Maybe I am having more trouble since I am using 6GB with HT still turned on, it seems a lot of folks are only running 3GB.
