We've got the same RAM I see but I paid $179 for it at newegg back in the good ol' days. :) So what chips are on these things?

I've had the best luck running it at 4-4-4-12 at any speed up to 488mhz. Dropping it to 4-4-4-9 didn't add any speed and made it a little more unstable. I was running it +.3v at 450mhz 1:1 for days. F8A doesn't seem to like that so I'm sneaking up on it again. It runs 440mhz at +.2v, I'm working on 445 now.

I've got an e6400 and Ultra-120, my main concern is Tcore. Once I figure out what it'll do I'm going to cut it back to 430x8 or so just to drop the heat a little, the GF mentioned the computer room is getting warm.

yeah the F8a is definately not an improvement.
not sure what they are claiming they fixed but i dont see anything fixed.

even the XFi is still showing issues.

Well, yes and no. I'm still able to get a 60+% O/C so can't complain too much and it's as stable as any board I've had. O/Cing is easy compared to the old AMD Barton days, I've not once had to reset anything, just let it reboot into stock settings and have another go at it.

I could spend $100 more and get features I don't need and maybe a little more headroom but I'm happy with my DS3. At least I was until F8A came out....

Dammit, I ran 450x8 Vdimm +.3, Vcore 1.55v Orthos stable until I stopped it just now. Rebooted and now the thing won't post with those settings. I'm letting it (and me) cool down and giving it another try. It ran those settings for 3 days with F7 bios.

The F8a bios fixed ny issues with the X-Fi completely. That was the only problem I wanted fixed and got it.

HamidFull: I wouldn't be able to know. I dare not rip off the heatsinks ...

I think i have better components than a8(insert random combo of letters of that guy's username) ... My ram always could post at 450fsb ... only it was never stable because i dunno what timings to use.

Just got an s3 and 6300; currently using 8500hz gskill. Dead solid at 440 fsb (orthos, wcg crunching for 18 hours). Will not post at 450, even though there is plenty of headroom in chip and RAM.

Is this the D9 issue? Is there a work around? I can get other ram for it (and use gskill somewhere else). Any recos for ram for the s3 that will take me near 500fsb?

just cuz it cant post at 450 is in no way shape or form any indication that its the ram issue.

and you have no way of knowing that the mobo and cpu have more headroom in them unless you have tried that cpu on another baord that has allowed you to take it higher.. and same for the board.

your also dealing with an S3 not a DS3

i have not heard, and i do not know if the S3 suffers the same issues with the D9 ram, although i suspect it does. but as far as i know the DS3 is the one. i do know the DS4 and DQ6 do not suffer the same fate.

so thats a good thing there.

but the D9 still isnt fixed not that i have seen yet.

personally i am happier to see the XFi fixed as thats a pretty serious issue to have your video card always disappear

Try the "turbo" setting in the bios for the memory... I was having a problem getting past 445 but am at 450 now...

The ram has been been running 495 in p5b. This would be the first c2d i've built (i've built 4 others) that runs orthos @ 1.4 at x speed, but at x + 10 refuses to post. Generally when they reach their limit and you move them up slowly, they will fail orthos, or sp or even have trouble getting into windows.
But this is simply failing to post. But you're right, I can't be 100% sure till i put in a p5b and take it up to around 500, where I'm guessing it will go based on my previous experience with the other c2d's.

i am not sure if the S3 suffers from the D9 issue as i mentioned.

given you affinity for the P5B why spend time and money on a S3 ?
thats kind of the pot calling the kettle black considering i just purchased the biostar 965PT which i will have int he morning and will be reporting my findings this weekend.

Exactly, price. I really like the s3 so far. A fellow cruncher has his @475 24/7 and got it to 510+. 440's not bad for a 6400, but I was hoping to push the 6300 a little further. When I read your post about d9 conflict, it just seemed to add up with what I am seeing.

I am looking forward to hearing about your upcoming experience with the biostar.

what are you doing man!!!! 58 with easytune = 73-75 in CoreTemp!!! your babe may die soon! use CoreTemp or TAT to find exact temp of each core you shouldnt go over 65C by CoreTemp DL it here :
