If thats what happened after tweaking the DRAM settings then its likely a memory issue. I'm starting to become convinced that this UCCC based memory has an affect on overclocks for certain memory controllers and that the Opteron memory controllers are picky about settings and weak at high speeds. Your memory controller may be even weaker then some of the other 0610's and thats why its taking a lot of voltage to get it stable. When you overclock an Athlon 64 the memory controller runs the same speed as the processor so that can pose a problem when you are doing 1GHz+ overclocks on processor meant to run at 1.8GHz. Then again you may just have a weak core that doesn't overclock well.

I agree, weak memory controller=hard :banana::banana::banana::banana:ing time tweaking memory(especially UCCC).:slap:

I guess the 170 CCB1E 0609 FPAW memory controllers aren't that good, cuz we're both pretty much stuck around 2.8ghz. I think cooling is the only reason I get it @1.4 instead of 1.475. I use TCCD & BH-5 it made no difference.

does this sound good? or g.skill be better? only have experiance with corsair 3200xl's and these...

not sure if it's bios problems or something with the mem ctrlers (using corsair VS UCCC rams)
i experienced some big problems with the bios just now when i was overclocking my rams.

it was rated at 3-4-4-8 at 1/10 dividers as i was testing my cpu limits. the rams managed to run at 275mhz but i didnt have the time to run memtest86 on it/

so i set the dividers to run the rams at 277mhz and attempted to tighten the timings to 3-4-3-8 and the rest of the timings as per advised in the oc guide.

it failed when loading into windows and while booting up by just freezing without any warning signs. even while i was trying to loosen back the timings it would just hang in the bios.

immediately after reseting the bios, i loaded the last stable settings but the moment i set the dividers at 9/10 to run the rams at 277mhz at 3-4-4-8 the com would just freeze up.

many times the booting up would freeze up before it detected the IDE devices or after checking the backup cmos. it got so back that sometimes reseting the bios wouldnt solve the problem.

each time the com booted up, there would be this long delay plus repeated beeps before anything was displayed.

at 1 point, even my gfx card was affected. the last of the diagnostic leds would remain lighted up and sometimes it would display the words " radeon x550xt" on the screen with a blinking cursor.

on certain occasions, the bios screen looked weird, some of the words looked abit scrambled.

i resorted to unplugging the power and leaving it for hours before it would boot properly.

the rams ran at 270mhz before and i am not sure why the system just died on me.
while on 270mhz i tried to tighten the timings but it simply wouldnt work and the bios kept crashing at different stages of booting up.

just now it happened again.
it was fine since the first post and suddenly just hanged, the same thing happened again. now while windows is loading, it would either lock up or reboot continuously.

Stepping I am not sure. Temp are high i think its due to the high ambiant temp which is ard 33-35 degree. I am using the scythe ninja plus with its default fan. By the way I am using the expert so is the voltage reported in cpuz accurate?

Even though your temps are way better than mine, I'm assuming water absorbs heat better or something & is allowing me the same clock with less volts. I don't think heat is your or my problem getting above 2.8ghz prime stable. I think our chips just won't do it. I have another 170 on the way I ordered it from the ebay listing mentioned a few posts back. Supposedly I'm to recieve a ccb1e so we'll see if it clocks better if its the same stepping. He said he had ccbbe's in 170's too. I might just order another though I've not heard of 170's being ccbbe.

hmm...ive never heard of a 170 CCBBE ever. sounds too good to be true?

im getting a lapping kit soon so maybe lapping will help with temps. arg....

yeah especially since it's been game and rosetta stable here for the last week :fact: I think it's just one specific calculation in prime that it doesn't like, because it also fails after 3 minutes at 2898 even. But it's stable in everything else up to 2915.

@Seufar his chip fails at the exact same point in prime every time @ that frequency.

I have 2620MHz with standard VCore and I've reached 2718MHz with VCore 1.39V (standard + 4%) but I cant go faster... I've tried 2800 at even 1.5V but I have still error in SP... Maybe I shoul change my AC (Ninja + 2x Delta 120mm fans) for WC.

That's not a bad overclock for a CCBWE. Most simply won't do 2.8ghz. 2.7ghz @ 1.408vcore is very good for that stepping and probably its limit. I wouldn't invest in water cooling with that chip, I'd sell it and invest in a better chip first. CCBBE or CCB1E stepping.

Maybe You have right but I bought my CPU from second hand and his previous owner reached 2.8GHz at 1.47VCore and 2.7 at 1.42v with WC. I have 2.7@1.39 (it's almost stable with 1.37 VCore - SP falls after about 30 min) with my AC but I cant go faster :( Maybe I should change LTD Voltage? What is LTD Voltage?
and last question what is max safe VCore for daily use?

man seems like its gonna be a hot summer :) :( lots of partying but bad for oc
28c inside today and soon the sun will be up 24/7 , i live close to the artic circle so gonna have a hard time keeping my current settings :(

a little off topic, but been playing with this 4800 before i decide to replace it with a 165/170... 2500-42deg load @1.39 :(

also, had my 4400 at 1.4 @2.64 booted fine (up to 38 in windows on boot(36 on sensor), run fine for normal use. started up dual sp... 5 mins and it was off... (had climbed to 45 then quickly run to get a drink, back in time to hear the fans wind down.. starts fine. but going to ditch it for an opty...

Did you receive tracking info yet on your 165's? I ordered a 170 Friday got tracking info today. I guess its okay if it took time to sort threw 19 cpus to find the stepping I requested. LMK when u get yours. We're both guinnie pigs:rolleyes:

ill amend that, it's climbed to 44-45 after 2+1/2 hours (and it's a cold-assed day in melbourne today... 3t+jumper day :P

CCB1E 0550VPMW, he said he had CCB1E's & CCBBE's though most people have said they've not heard of 170's having CCBBE. I asked for CCB1E 0550VPMW specifically, then any CCBBE, then any CCB1E. Would love to see a 170 CCBBE though. If I get a CCB1E 0550VPMW, or CCBBE I'll let you know, right after I order two more:D
