I say we go for the 8400GS. I think most of the brands have almost the same design, so I would suggest that it's up to you folks wich brand you choose.

I'm down with the 8400GS also. 8500GT increases the risk(cost of losing the card) which will keep me from seriously bashing this card.
zakelwe, please make a decision and we can get started soon :)
seems all the guys are in favour of these 8400 cards
why not just stick to that
i can compete with laptops here on stock air  :ROTF: :D
actually i did some benchmarks a while back on a sony laptop heheheh
have a look at the clocks i reached in a freaking laptop  (~68% OC on both core and RAM eek 756/999)

I'll use whatever card... ;)
Sick laptop clocks Dinos, taking benching to the next level in a hilarious fashion. Now just need to create an LN2 pop for mobile GPUs, have fun insulating :p:
haha i so remember the times where i had the 8400gs page on hwbot all to myself! haha
count me in!
Was bored at work so i bought an 8400GS... Preparing mods for it as we speak :D
Which brand?
Look here what an 8400GS can do on water :D
And thats nothing, you should see what other dutch guys did with there cards :D
nice man :D
looks like it will be a fun comp
i was always wondering why ppl don't use those PCI extenders and then just use the GFX cards horizontally with a normal CPU pot :D
the ATI 3450 is out too and it's a 50 dollar card no one has had the chance to blow up on this scale before....

US site is a little cheaper
sign me in , as long as someone will give me a friggin tool for Overclocking and HP Pavillion DV6500 nv 8400GS (HP bios probably locked 0_o)
This is a fantastic idea, i might be down depending on deadlines.
Ok, 8400GS it is.
I think the general concensus is that you can use any 8400GS as some people already have them and secondly we need to get this rolling now.
Rules, as I seem to remember are
1) Competition runs the month of February ( but you can start tonight if you wish)
2) Card is 8400GS, can be any brand, 256Mb or 512MB.
3) The competition will be in 3dmark001 and 3dmark03. Drivers must be Futuremark approved.
4) You can change LOD setting.
5) Classes will be Anything Goes and Air cooled vga (air or water cooling on cpu)
Have I forgotten anything?
Some recommendations
a) Please don't cheat, this is supposed to be fun and the person who comes bottom is not the worst overclocker in the the world, just the unluckiest. There are no prizes :D
b) When submitting your scores on the ORB please put in your XS name and also mention the competition so we can spot you swarming all over the ORB
c) Maximum card clocks for vga and mem will be fun to see.
d) Please share any volt mod info
OK, people sign up below and I will add you to the first post in this thread.

Woohoo! I'm in with an EVGA 8400GS with a whopping 256MB of blazing fast DDR2. Need to find some volt-mods for this poor card and give it some pain :D
Found some potential help with voltage mods. On my 8400GS, a quick google search yields this PDF for the PWM controller.
http://www.intersil.com/data/fn/FN9168.pdf
and here's a thread also talking about the same controller for 8400GS using the same feedback pin, looks like a winner.
Yup, a quick google search will yield the correct PDF for your specific controller. It looks like on my EVGA 8400GS the 4th pin is the feedback pin, now time to find a better place to solder to than the actual IC.
8400gs, I'm in, card ordered
yeah why not I'm game :)
