Hm, so what's the news on this, not enough interest (or enough cases it can fit in) to make it viable? I only ask as things seem to have changed a bit, 120.4 rads were unheard of for me back when this thread was kicking the idea around, seems to be plenty more 140mm fans out now as well.
I'd think a PA140.3 would barely squeeze into a MM Cube... they have the space, might as well use it. :D
so is this actually coming out? or is it just like something they were thinking of trying because they were bored with 120mm fans?

Why?.....GT Stealths are the worst copper/brass rad you can buy. The fact that they made it bigger is only going to enhance the suck. It might actually match the MCR x20's now. Save your money and go with MCR's or BIP if you need a thin rad. Right now, there are NO good 140mm format rads.
Sigh... Thank you for bursting my bubble:p: Thing is, I'm going to get myself another MCR320 pretty soon, but if a 140x3 came out that was any good, I'd go for that in a heartbeat. I would hate to buy the MCR320, and a month later sell it 'cause the 140s start coming out. .
I'd buy a coupe 2x 140mm rads.
I'm not worried about space cause I use an external rad box.
This is a terrible idea. The industry is moving to smaller scales and you guys are going bigger. Why not do a triple pass 80mm rad? Smaller is better.
Ok, to sum things up, from peoples responses, it will merely be a personal preference at this point in time. BUT!! If it shows an increase in performance against its sister PA120.X, people WILL buy it.

Well, CPU's are getting cooler. The 45nm chips seem to have gone down the temp range a bit and I can only expect the same from the 32nm. Gpu's are still problematic as they can't get the power usage down enough.
If thermochill could make a rad that was 80mm x 3 and had at least 80% of the cooling capacity of the 120.3, I would buy it immediately. This is why I suggest triple pass, to make up for the face loss.
Not enough though, unless you just look at how hot they run at stock non OC'd speeds. Overall they don't seem to get much cooler, they have a new format which runs hot, then a die shrink which runs a bit cooler, then a newer faster format that runs hot again, then another die shrink, etc.
true, but again, if we can get the same cooling capacity on a smaller platform, i would def buy it.
Id still go with the 120.3
It has 20% more colling capacity and is less restrictive(than ur fictional 80.3 rad)
Who says im only going to cool 1 cpu with the rad? Gpus are hot as hell too. And while they are moving on to 45nm and smaller and thus reducing heat we get more cores making more heat again.
I think it will be a looooong time untill a 80.3 rad is enough for 1 high end computer.
Edit: Oh and another thing. The bigger rad i can get the more silent fans i can use (with the same heatload), Thus i will always go for the largest i can get. 140mm wide rad is a very good step in the right direction. Most cases is 200mm+++ wide, so 120mm is wasting alot of unused area. 140mm will fit perfectly in the drivebay.
We already got rads long enough, i want wider rads!
Like eXa said, things always get hotter with new cores before they go down again, not to mention GPU's are outrageously hot nowadays. A dual 80mm might cool a 1GHz P3 and a VooDoo2 card though.
