I've been a bit lazy lately (very little spare time) so I'm running the chip 334x9 with 1.525v. I can bench, surf, do anything but prime. I just leave the window open all the time in my computer room with a fan sucking the hot air out. Gets to around 64-66F at Night and around 72-74 during the day.

I wont pop the IHS on this chip until 2 things happen. 1 I buy a complete watercooling setup.. 2.. The warrenty runs out from Monarch.

Im a tad disappointed that I cant get my memory stable at a 166 divider (268) I had to back it down to a 150 divider (246) and tightened up the timings a bit.

Went from 28.641s to around 28.9 in SPI 1M. Guess I have to trade off for memory stabiltiy. It passed 32M with flying colors at 150 Divider.

My opti 165 is dual prime stable at 2900 @ 1.4 V with 2.5-3-3-6 timings @204 mhz. I get around 32s in SPI 1m.

I know, my ram sux, and my mobo sux, because it has :banana::banana::banana::banana:ty divider settings (only 100,133,166,200).

I also think if the chip is dual prime stable for 20-30 minutes, it will be stable for anything.

sheesh man, no air conditioning?

i keep my entire house 68-71*F all day, anything above 72-73*F and i feel horrible

my house sometimes gets up to 81f upstairs..and thats where my computer is at. its a good test for stability. :)

i do turn on the a/c if it gets above 85f outside though.

I have it but I don't really use it unless its hot outside. I grew up without it so it really doesn't bother me.

And yea I'm trying to enjoy a coulpe of months of fairly low electric bills.

Thanks for the input. If I open the window temps rise up to 26c (dunno in F). I think I'll remove the IHS and see what happens, as my chip is retail from ebay so no warranty. It helped with my 0551.

That's why I love my BH-5, I run 246-250 2-2-2-5 1T. The bad side is I need 3.3v -> PWMIC and case temps are higher.

Here's a CBB1E 0608 that I got from Monarch a few weeks ago. On water cool.

Prime stable for 6 hours so far. Core 0 failed prime at 1.328V so I bumped it to 1.344.

I am in 100% agreement with you man. I've said it before and i stand by it, prime fails because it gets hotter than everything else. Priming for extended periods of time gets to be wasteful because after an initial stability check, it pretty much becomes temp limited. I've seen 1-2 degrees make the difference between priming for 10 minutes and priming for over an hour.

I notice when i prime past stability point and get too hot, stuff fails, even FireFox locks up for a few seconds and i have to go play with task manager. Without prime, but at the same speed, it's like 10c cooler, i imagine if it were loading at that temp (say 33c) it would be totally stable there. Only the heat generated from priming makes things fail :)

Exactly! With my comp usage (surf, movie play and gaming) the CPU never gets so stressed. Of course it will hang someday some way, but I don't bother. I'm not coding for the NASA (and we got used to random hangs thanks to Windows :D).

isn't that the point of using prime to stability test? to find the maximum stability under the most demanding loads? or did i totally miss your point?

My point is that just about nothing but prime will give the "Most demanding loads" so running it for more than like 30 minutes is a waste. I can game forever at speeds that fail prime, because the only reason prime fails is due to heat, and no game gets as hot.

Right now, i'm running at 3 Ghz with 1.45v, it takes 1.48v to be stable here. Prime fails in 5 minutes. But i've been folding all night... it's been running strong for the last 12 hours.

The only reason i prime for more than 30 minutes is because people b1tch when i post 30 minutes of prime.

Hello ppl. Mine 165 CCB1E 0609FPBW with a 63oC maxTcase is running very HOT. And as you see its standard Vcore here. Look at the pics below. I have a custom watercooling system as you see below. 1rst pic is without tha fans installed. Anyway i have a way high PWMIC temperature whicj worries me the most. In the same system i used an 146 running at 2950 and it idles 26-27 temp with the radiator fans turning at 600RPm only. Load temp is around 42. SO MUCH DIFFERENCE;;;;

Even a fraction of a degree can do it. I notice sometimes i'll prime and it fails. Open up the window, just a minute later while smartguardian still reads basically the same temps, it will prime longer. **Pretty much only applies to coldbugged Opterons at high speeds.

Man, the MSI software is soooo messed up lol. I remember on my K8N Neo Platty it used to say my 3200+ Newcastle was loading at 64c : /

I used a glue gun and attached a 60mm fan over the PWMIC Area. Mine use to get in the 60's since I game and run SLI.

It looks like your radiator is dumping it's heat into the case. Is this so? In other words with the radiator on the bottom of the case and the fans blowing in, system temp will be high.

Yeah basically i still advocate dual prime with the proper affinities set as THE way to stress test. It's just i think that 3 hours, 5 hours, 12 hours etc. is all very over rated and pretty useless.

Some people just don't think something is stable unless it has primed for over 8 hours, and as i said, i'm running a speed that fails prime in 5 minutes flat and it's been stable here for the last 14 hours, 100% Rosetta load too gettin nearly as hot as prime...

So basically it boils down to me disagreeing with the people who call screenshots worthless unless they've got X hours of prime. This is about overclocking, not priming. I am just tired of seeing useless one-line posts that read something like "45 minutes, that's not stable, try running longer :stick:" Posts like that don't contribute.

Just some random OT thoughts.

Have I mentioned I F’n love this system? If I haven’t I just wanted to say, “I F’n love this system!” Runs the :banana::banana::banana::banana::banana: out of CS|S, BF2, Photoshop.

The MB is still a little wacky, tells me I installed a new CPU everytime a change a setting in the bios. I have to turn the PS on and off to reboot, so I never reboot unless I am changing something in the bios.

eVGA shipped me another 7900GTX though the step up program they offer. It cost me $169 plus the trade in of a 7800GS (agp card) I bought in January for my XP2500 barton system. The XP2500 system is going to replace my PII based linux file/web server. The onboard SATA raid will be a nice upgrade.

I bought a Li-lan 7077 case two weeks ago, but still haven't put the system in it. I kind of like it sitting on the desk top. It's quit, cool (as in temp), and nice to look at. The girly friend keeps ask'en, "when are you gona put it in the case?" I figure I'll get to it in the next week or two. Definitly before setting up water cooling.

So your CCB1E at 3.15 fails prime after 5 mins, bud?

Im having the same problems with my CCBWE at 2.7 itll fail after 5 mins on core 1.

good point, maybe i'll stop wasting time priming for so long. i just do it for so long because i get frustrated when i OC and then find what i think is a stable setup, and then two weeks later it freezes, or shuts off, but i guess, thats all part of the game, if it really bothered me i would just buy a faster cpu :)

Hell no lol, my 170 is prime and everything stable at 3.15 Ghz.

Check some of my previous posts, ATM i am running a 165 @ 3 Ghz with 1.45v when it takes 1.48v to prime here. So this isn't prime stable, but it's everthing else stable.

Thx for your answer. Yes i have them blowing inside but i always have the side open. And also this situation stands for the 146 also. But the PWMIC temp is not exceeding 50 C.

A full hour huh lol? An hour is hardly enough time to even get started with all the random combinations tested with small FFTs. A CPU that will handle an hour of Prime95/SP2004 is probably able to run applications alright without crashing for the most part but it certainly is NOT stable if it can't pass at least 8 hours. You certainly wouldn't want to be running any important scientific applications on a system like that or anything like Folding@Home cause likely you'd just be doing more harm then good with outputting incorrect data. An overclock that isn't rock stable is a farely worthless overclock IMO. But of course thats just my opinion :D.

Agreed. So I used to think my s ystem was s table at 1.45 volts 2.7 GHz. So it primes for 20 min? Whoah. OCCT 30 min? Ok come on. If we don't establish a STANDARD as what is stable, this is pointless

24 hr prime s table is a good standard. If we abide by 2 min prime, I think we will start seeing 3Ghz @ 1.45 volts by almost everyone. Versus if you had 24 hr prime, 3 GHz @ 1.45 volts and stock cooling would be godlike. Correct?

All programs use the CPU differently, and 1 hr is a joke. Just because today you can live doesn't mean it's a good system. We are basically clueless about the status of the CPU without a prime test. It's like you built a house of cards and you magically put a piece of candy somewhere in there. Would you declare that house of cards safe to put something heavier in there? Hell no, it's a house of cards and it will fall any moment because it is so weak. Well so is your 3 GHz on 1.45 volts that primes for 1 hr only. It's a worthless achievement if it can crash any second.

Stable in terms of physics and engineering means the potential energy well. If you push the object left and right it wil fall back to its original state. If you prime test a 3 ghz it should heat up but in the end it will be back to its original state. that is stable. Unstable is when you push it and all hell breaks loose (i.e. Prime 95 crashes).

they can afford a $130,000 house, a brand spankin' new Eddie Bauer Expedition and a pool

yet when the Eddie needs tires, he goes to a "guy he knows" who gets him nearly worn out tires that he calls having "life still in them" and gets them for $40 for 4 tires......but in 6 months he has to take the time to go get 4 more + pay for mounting and balancing.........seems stupid to me and he's taking a huge chance of being on the interstate doing 80mph and having a second hand tire blow out or go flat........with kids in the car...i just dont get it

then when it's 85* outside, they are sitting in their nice new couches watching TV and sweating all the while because "they can't afford to run the A/C" LOL

what a life! i couldn't stand it! in the summer i get $300 monthly electric bills, but it's worth every penny, i simply refuse to be uncomfortable in my own house, let alone let my expensive PC meltdown :nono:

Finally got a chance to do some work on my 0610DPMW. This is with a crappy HSF as the water cooling isn't installed yet, but it shows some promise. Been running R@H for hours on this too.

2727 @ 1.4v

Hopefully i'll get my overclocking results soon with my opty 165 CCB1E 0608MPMW after i remove the ihs and get my watercooling going as well. I had one of those 0607's and yes they are horrible. I was getting all excited when it was doing 2.4ghz stock volts, but anything slightly past that and it all goes downhill. If you get a 0607 sell it if you plan on getting past 2.6ghz. I personally like to keep my volts within the 10% overvolt range.

0.2v is my range for the athlon 64s, same situation with you as me bigkr

Got my CCB1E 0609FPMW from monarch. It's good, but not nearly as good as I hoped.. so far 2.74 has failed on stock voltage, 2.7 is going ok. Keep in mind it's about 80-85F out today, that could have something to do with it

Why did you get another chip repo? That CC1BE you have now is awsome.

That 0609 seems to be performing worse that the 0610.

It's fun to test them, then if it's good I can make a quick buck off of it. I know I saw one good 0609 that had 2.96@1.4v, so they're not all that bad.

BTW 0534 on 170 is bad, on 165 it was great for the time. I had one at 2.7@1.45v

Do you have a DMM compgeek? You can measure your actual vcore with it.. plus I'm curious to see how far it overvolts :p: Some people say there's only does an extra .01v under load, mine does .04

small update now.
crushed one corner of the core (had a sleepless night) and decided the next morning to re test and try seating it and all that, and it still lives:eek: .
now ive managed to lower my voltage from 1.61v 2.925ghz stable to 1.48v stable realy dont know how that happened. its not stable at 1.45v.
but it defenatly wasnt stable before below 1.55v.

once my new pump turns up(dumb ass courier carnt find my house) i shall be going for new highs again hopefully 3.3ghz.(chilled)(well ice on the insulation chilled):D

Burning in really works. Two DC opties I've burned for high clock speeds. I got this CCB1E 0608 MPMW from Monarch. I booted up at the speed where it just is able to run windows and nothing much at 1.375vcore (is this default?). I crank up two instances of cpuburn and let it run around 8hrs or so overnight. Shut it down for the day. THe following night, I crank the htt up by one or two and burn it again. Each night crank it up one or two htt at a time. As you get near the absolute limit at that vcore, it is limited to about 1htt jumps at a time. Be patient. My watercooling is in pieces so I'm stuck on air. I can't raise vcore pass 1.375 since temps are already at 57c. I can only raise HTT slowly and max out my air that way. BTW I started at around 306*9 (totally unstable). I'm up to 314*9 and burning in as I type this. This method is used on a new unabused chip. I think people that claim it doesn't work is just too impatient. BTW, still at 1.375vcore. I hope I won't max out the board.

ok its official now 2.8 with 1.5 volts. i think it was like 8 hours primed before i wanted to reboot and play a game. on water as well. 45 C around there....... not bad right? my motherboard cuts off there.

your PWMIC temps are too HIGH . Before I also had that temps ( around 52c) but i put a 80mm FAN near the mosfets and my PWMIC temps went down to 35c :D :

Removed & reseated the waterblock. Reapplied AS5, lowered vcore to 1.4v (1.4 +104% in bios) set chipset & LDT voltage to default. My ambient is still around 80'F & Nautilus fan is on high. How are these temps & results.

I bought it @ http://www.tankguys.com/ last weekend. Pretty neat spot where you can chat with the sales rep/owners. They also have a forum where you can request steppings and they'll post when they're available.

I just downloaded SP2004's new version dated April. Gonna try it out now:)

Yes I'm using the Corsair Nautilus 500. I also have an evercool vga cooler on my chipset and a 60mm fan glued to the PWMIC area.:D
