have you disabled aggresive chipset timings? That really causes problems at HTTs beyond 240-250Quote:

Update
OK, Disabled IDE Controllers + Enable SATA DMA
I tested with HD Tach 3, gives 2% CPU Utilization | Random Access 12.9ms | Avg read 47.2
So it seems that HDTach270 doesnt compatible with nVIDIA nForce3 controller
New 1.51b beta bios...
So far so good...
Before you ask or PM me for the bios, I am under "NDA" :D...
If you would like to test the bios, please PM OnePageBook or conrad.maranan & I'm sure they'd email the bios to ya or link you to the 1.51 beta bios...
Only thing I am not happy with the 1.51 bios is that VID is still only 10% max...
Minor problem only, I just use CoreCenter & get up to 1.75v (when set at 1.85 in CoreCenter)...
So far so good... Update this post/thread after a day or two to see if there's any problems that arise...
More info on the 1.51 bios 1.51b bios thread

Minnyboy
Any info about what has been updated on the 1.51 bios ?
Cheers,

where is the VDimm Read point, on this board?
does the zalman cnps 7000B Cu fits one the msi?
Yep, but don't use the MSI backplate.Quote:

I also tried sticking it in other pci slots and sticking my ethernet card in the pci slots, it also doenst get detected.
So my question is why isnt anything getting detected in my pci slots?? am i missing something????? They work on my old computer...
Just making sure i dont have to do anythign special for the pci slots to work, they should work once i pop them in right? windows should detect some new hardware... Anyways just checking before i rma it back.
sorry for the noob question , but where can i turn LDT down to 3x ? i can't find it ...
The BIOS lists it as "HT Frequency" ... same thing.
I have heard that the temp reporting on the Neo 2 is inaccurate. Just how inaccurate is it? I have readings of 60C+ in CoreCenter and would really be upset if I were to fry this CPU. Running 265 x 10 @ 1.55 + 15% to see if I can get Prime stable.
I don't know how off it is on air, but under a Mach 1 my 3 GHz load temps are shown in the +50's, lol. It's off a lot.Quote:

make sure you have plug n play enabled... it might be an irq problem, contact the msi support and check the msi support forums first for similar problem.Quote:

I think using 3x HTT is not good 4 260x10. mine max with HTT 4x @ 276x10 and very stable @260x10@ Vcore 1.45v (winy 3200+, K8N Neo2 on Air.. )
i think its your cpu maxing out, not the board... try a lower multi.
what vcore what cpu load temps?
or maybe its the memory... what timings?

hi,
I have now my new pc since a week and i travelled around the net to have answers for the several problems i encountered. Now my pc is running so-so but he is running. I have :
Msi k8n neo2 platinum (bios v1.3)
a64 3500+ @220*11 (ht 4*) (don't know if its a 0.13 or 0.09 i'll explain later but he is working with 1.525 v now)
Zalman cnps 7000b cu with artic silver 5
2*512 ocz el 2-3-2-6
Gainward 2600 golden sample
Audigy 2 zs
I'm facing strange problems and hope anyone could help me with it.
1) I have a temperature problem . With mbm 5 or the core center. Sometimes the proc is 37°idle at bootup and sometimes it is at 48°!!!! I saw that there is a temperature issue with the board that is strange is that when i bootup at 37° everything works fine but when it's 48° i keep having freeze in any tests 3dmark or so. C&q is not activated in bios and i have not installed the c&q patche for a64 (i uninstalled it cause with it it took 1min to restart the system each time).
2) I have the 1.3 bios and what is strange is that each time i reset it by clearing cmos or removing the battery, he identifies the proc as an a64 3500+ but sometimes <with a 1.4v and sometimes with a 1.5. It's strange...
I have noted the information on the proc it read :
ADA3500DEP4AW
CBAEC0429RPMW
1062954G40449
If anyone knows if its a 0.9 or a 0.13 it would be nice to tell me.
3) I also have issues with the soundblaster in games such as fifa2005 the sounds sometimes stop and by just quitting and restarting it works. (the sound chip is disable)
4) What is strange is that my pc worked all night running memtest with no errors (11 hours) and the night before running prime95 (7hours) with absolutely no errors. I even tested the memory with a fsb at 250 with crap timing just to see if the meory stands the 1:1 ratio at 250 (i tried ht 4x fsb 250 *8 to be sure there wont be issues with the proc ) and everything works well but it seems my proco is becoming too hot with a voltage >1.525, so i cant make a 10*250. I though is was a Thermal paste problem and i reapplied Artic silver 5 but the prob is still here. I cant go above 11*220 is this normal ? 1.55 seems not a very high voltage and i find it so strange i have such temperature and heating problems, anyone as an idea?
Thanks a lot for reading and hope anyone could help me.
Welcome to Xtremesystems.org jeffstet.
Download this one http://www.cpuid.com/download/cpu-z-125.zip
then you see if it recongnize your cpu as Winchester(90nmn) or Newcastle(130nm).
Try ht ratio 3x for higher clocks. Yeah is a known problem with the temp, speedfan says my cpu is at 117C which isnt right of course :D Hope I could help you out with something.
thanks i used it already and cpuz tells me its a 0.13, but the last mem test version (1.4) says its a 0.09 and since voltage keep moving each time i reset it i had a doubt.
For the temp issue what is strange is that it seems that whem temp idle is around 37° everything runs fine and when it boots 48° i have freezes, so i think there is a real random temperature at startup even if the temperature reading is false.
this is at the max fsb I've tried
http://intenseghetto.com/o/albums/be...300cpuzmem.JPG
my vcore I've been trying 1.50-1.525 w/ +10% so its around 1.70
I guess you know about half multipliers. Memory's not working at 300MHz.
300 * 8.5 = 2550
2550 / 9 = 283.3p
Remember, when using half multipliers the memory rounds up .5 .
See ya!
I can run 265x10 stable, 280x10, 279x10 benchable with HTT 4x...
hey guys, try bios 1.51! :D
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=47325
fixes nvraid issues and seems to give some people higher ocs :)
hmm... seems interesting... i will check it out... hopefully it doesnt have voltage issues like 1.41 did for me... had to go back to 1.36 just to fix the problems...
And saaya, go get urself a s939 board... or get a cpu for ur dfi board ur poor shmuck!

huh, i'm definitely having a hard time wth that board....
I just downloaded and flashed the 1.41 bios linked in the 1rst page and i'm having strange voltage values in corecell or mbm 5. It says 3.xx v for the vcore !!!! I went back in the bios and read 1.45 +10%vid which should be 1.6 or something, definitely strange. Also a strange thing i could not get more than 1.55 vcore voltage....
After fighting a lot to avoid freezes, blue screens and artifacts on the screen, i had to remove nv speed up and agp fastwrites so that the board is stable in 3d graphics. I have a gainward 2600 gs and i can't get more that the defaut frequencies (430/1200) and removing fast write let me loose 200 points in 3dmark 05 falling from 5501 to 5325....
I also have difficulties with o/c since i cannot have more than 220 fsb with htt 4*. The memory runs stable (11hours of memtest) at 2.5-3-2-6 2t but fails at 2-3-2-6. I have the ocz pc3200 el and when i tried to max the fsb to try and be as high possible 1-1 with proco. I was stuck at 260 * 9 * 3htt but with horrible timing (i dont remember but it was horrible like 3-4-4-12 2T). 10 * 260 fails, and i don't know if its a temperature issue or simply a voltage limitation.
Any issue with the 1.41 bios and voltage ? Any new possibility to activate fast write, and why is it failing ? I also search a good bios for my 2600 gs and how i could raise the voltage and have a try to o/c a bit more.
Well, went back to 1.4B1 bios.
Regarding some tips that Pedro Rocha gave us in another forum, I can now get 300HTT and more in my Neo2 with chipset week 10 of 2004.
I raise the AGP voltage to 1.8, I take off the vcore mod and use the core cell for that instead.
With my Mushkin BH5 PC3500 @2:2:2:6 and 2T disabled, configured in AUTO and 166Mhz in bios, and with my Vapo LS I get these values:
Benchable in some way...:
http://clientes.netvisao.pt/ratax/300HTT.JPG
Not benchable, yet :P
http://clientes.netvisao.pt/ratax/310HTT.JPG
I made few tests that were not enough to test rock stability, but will run some more and see what I can get with this chip...
that's what i'm getting so far....
3200+ , bios 1.37beta , adata bh5

use the 1.36b or 1.37 bios is 1.41 doesnt work for you, or try the 1.51... ;)
only 2.36b and 1.37 allow for 1.9v vcore afaik, 1.8v for newcastles that is i guess...
and why do you want to activate fast writes?
Ratax, did you get a higher oc by removing the vcore mod and adjusting the vcore in bios? or a more stable vcore? what did you set it to in bios before? the lowest value and then rose it with the mod?
j0j0, what memory and what timings? what ht multi?
memory 2*256 adata bh5 week 42 , ht @4 , timings @ auto
280 with 4x multi  nice! 1150HT speed, should give you nice numbers in 2k1 :)
@saaya : hi, i have the 2600 golden sample from gainward. Its a 6800ultra board @ 430/1200 with 1.6 memory. I was just wondering why we had to disable fastwrite since i used it with my old fx5900, and that it increases global perfs ? Well anyway i decided to disable it as it was the only way to after a so-so stable PC.
Yestrday i flashed to 1.36bios and averything went much better. I'm currently at 11*225 and ran 6 hours of prime 95 and 5 hours memtest and played 2 hours doom. Everything seemed to be working well. This early morning i decided to reboot the pc, and wanted to run a few more tests and crashes in 10 mins of prime. It's so strange.
My temperatures are 32 idle and 58-60 in burn. The core voltage is at 1.67v and i can't go down unless instability. My memory is at 2.7v. My zalman cnps7000b cu runs at full and i have put artic silver 5 thermal paste. I know the temps are strange with this board and i hope these are not the real one. I definitely have a problem but where? voltage ? temps ? cpu limit ?
Initially i thought there were not enough thermal paste 'cause from 32° idle to 58°-60 (a pike at 62) it seems really a lot !!! More than 25° difference... So i had some more but the problem stayed the same....
post your complete system specs so we can help you.
and about fast writes, many people tested it and it gave them a really small performence boost. well you decide, fast write enabled+low oc+instability or fast write disabled+high oc+stability :D
and the second one is much faster than the first :D
@saya : For sure i'll take the second....In fact i was just wondering what makes fast write so instable. With my a7n8x e-deluxe and my asus FX5900 board i had good o/c and fast write enable. Is this a 6800u issue ? A mb issue ? A chipset issue ?
I was wondering if it was not an issue with the mobo since i had ( and still have a few) many problems with this mobo (unstable voltage (before bios 1.36b, crazy temps, blue screens, reboot, artefacts in 3d games, sound suddenly stopping in games and comes back by just quitting games, etc...). Most of these problems disappeared when i flashed to 1.36b disabled fw and nv speedup but i still have some issues : Temps, not so stable voltage (with my a7n8x and with the same PSU : no problems) e.G. : 11.87-12.26 at +12v 4.5-5.05 at +5 v 3.03-3.25 at 3.3v, memory with bios v1.2 or v1.3 could just stand 2-3-2-6 at 200 fsb and above 220 i had horrible timings such as 4-4-11-4 (before 1.36b). Now with 1.36b its much better my ram runs fine (6hours mem test + 4hours prime95 @ 2.5-3-6-2 which is good for me).
But when i say its instable i meant this morning for example i just booted the pc and ran a single prime just to test and it fails in less than 5mins (with the same settings 6 hours memtest + 4 prime95 +2 hours of doom+ 1 game of fifa and during that i had to quit 1 time doom and 1 time fifa for sound issues. With the mobo chipset i have no prob and the sound drivers are up to date). I just rebooted the pc and prime is carrying on (i started this morning 8 o'clock) and i just connected to my pc and he is still running. That's really strange.
I won't activate fast write nor nvsppedup and idecided to try and o/c a bit, let say up to 2.6 would be great if my proc can get there...
My system specs are :
PSU ENERMAX 600W Noisetaker EG701AX-VE

I hope you have everything you need.
P.S. : i forgot to say that cool and quiet is disabled in bios and that i had to uninstall the a64 C&Q driver because with it i took me 1min for each rebbot in windows. I have tried the 66.81 66.93 and 67.03 drivers and my pc is best with these last ones. I also have the 5.10 nforce drivers installed. W2k is up to date (sp4 and all the hotfixes).

well, 939-systems can be very strange...my combo (3200+, Neo2, TCCD) gets lots of errors in memtest @ 8x275 and 9X275. While 10x275 is completely stable!! an a higher multi on A64 actually increases the memory bandwith so it should be less stable at a higher multi. On my old Abit AV8-board the memory wouldn't even boot at 260, while 275 worked flawlessly.Quote:

I have found what is my problem precisely but not the answer. In the bios the voltage of the cpu is 1.65. Each time i boot up the pc it seems the voltage get crazy. I open mbm in windows and find that the voltage is 3.3 !!!!!! I thought it was just a visual bug so i try to lauchn prime95 and he fails in less then 5min ===>reboot. Since the pc was not stopped but rebooted i went in the bios to see the voltage and it says 1.65 right!!! then windows boot and mbm shows the right voltage 1.65. So i tried to stop the pc again left it for 5-10 min and booted back and you know what mbm showed me te 3.3 v for core cpu again. I then rebooted directly this time whiyhout going in the bios and mbm shows me 1.65 rightly.
After cold boot i have 3.3v and i need to reboot to have the correct one.... Anybody has an answer for this?
i've a big problem with this motherboard when i insert a floppy disk and i read this appear a message "this disk is not formatted" but the disk function in other system there are a solution for a floppy problem in k8n neo2??? help me!
i've a big problem too, if i want to use my ocz booster and 2*256 A-Date nh5 it doesen't work but if i put one stick in , the ocz booster works fine , need help!
that means , i can increase the voltage on the two stick but nothing happend , no difference between 2.6v and ~3.9v , but with one stick and ~3.7v i can boot and run 32m without problems, and it makes no difference which stick i use.
bios is 1.36b
the QOS thing did not help,
I know you guys think I should just use a NIC, but i spent $130 on a product and it should work like its supposed to :p
Best bios for crap memory on Micron chips (obviously a ratio) with a 3200+ winch, good water? The board is relatively new - 0438 chipset.
0432 - OK week for a winch, or should I look for a later one?
from what i hear Ivan, its just the luck of the draw. but i think week 41+ have higher chances
Can someone explain to me why when using .5 multi the Hyper transport
doesn't increase while upping the htt speed. In bios i set 4xhtt and i set my
memory to run 333mhz , using clockgen in windows i set 10.5x250htt but my
HT still remains 800 instead of 1000, 4x250htt. Right? Could it be that .5
multi locks the HT so it gives u the ability to only oc your memory and cpu
frequency.
plz need help :(Quote:

Went I switch it on, flames was shooting from the MOSFET! I saw it because the mobo was right next to me. Luckily the NEO2 was the only casualty.
My question is, what could have caused the MOSFET to burn? Vcore too high? Inadequet cooling on the MOSFET?
Next to the cpu, where exactly ???
Got any pics ?
I wouldn't mind if my board blew up... damn thing isn't stable @ 2.5Ghz and over :(
That's what you get with a 0409 :(
Hello Xtreme! So this is my first post here but I've read this forum for over 2 years :).
I have a problem with my 6 day-old board; when trying to put more vcore than 1.55+10% the comp won't post till end, it freezes after showed memory speed and settings. Why does this happen?? In windows with corecenter I can up vcore till 1.8 and it is very stable, although it does not help me very much to get higher mhz. I use 1.41mod bios, same problem with 1.36b bios. Is there any other program than corecenter to up vcore on windows? Corecenter does the upping upside down :D but who cares, but upping the vcore at the xp login automatically would be great. Now I'm stuck with 1.65vc.
I also noticed today that the common procedure to get the comp to boot by pressing Insert-key when booting works with Neo2 :). For example today I had to clear cmos every time after I tried over +10% but after I tryed the insert key I booted straight to safe mode, nice :)!
1. The first thing I would like to say is less of a question, more like an observation.
I have a 3200 Winchester /w Corsair HydroCool 200EX setup.
Prior to this setup I had a 3.0e Prescott P4 @ 3.5GHz.
Intel Setup Temps.
Idle on Water Block 26-28c idle
Idle 34-37c
Load 42c
Now with my A64 setup.
Waterblock idle 24.5-26c
Idle 40c
Load 43c
It almost seems like my CPU temp is almost 9c off?
I had/have Artic Silver 5 applied to both setups.
2. I have MBM installed per instructions on first page. I have 3 temps listed by having my mouse pointer hover over the taskbar icon.
Case 21c. CPU 40c Sensor 30c
What is the third reading of?
3. I tried seeing the hidden features in my bios per these instructions.
In the bios press and hold Shift+F2 and then press ALT+F3 to unlock "hidden" features within the BIOS
I don't see anything else in the bios? BTW, I have 1.3.
Thanks for any help
HAving huge problems...
I'm on bios 1.51 and ocz powerstream rails are like 12.20v on the 12v 3.35 on the 3.3 line and 5v rail is even 5v. I don't have a multimeter to test, but this is what I get from the bios, I'm not sure how acurate it really is. my cpu temps are around 35-39c load. 3 sets of tccd all work fine in memtest. but as soon as I overclock past stock and go into windows, problems occur. For example I tried 2.6ghz and lowered ht link to 3x. agp/pci lock is set at 66, but it seems to lock fine in clockgen. I am using sata 3and4 in raid0, and that seems ok. I ran prime 95 at stock almost 18hrs on small fft torture test, didn't get a single error, but I ran the same test after setting to 2.6 and passed up to test 3 and then system reboot and windows xp screen just hangs until I hold power button. Normally you would get an error and prime will automatically stop, but in this case system just randomly reboots itself. I am really out of ideas here and I'm begging for advice. neo2 is week 41 on nf3 chip. could this be a bad bios? or is board just shot from too much ddr booster? I never ran booster over 3.5v mostly it was between 3v and 3.3v. cooling is not really an issue here, so it's either bios, power flux., or faulty board. I thought it might be the cpu at first, but how do you explain 18hrs of prime with no errors f the cpu was at fault? i tried low vcore and vcore up to 1.72, fastwrites is off, everything else like nv/ati is disabled, I read the msi 939 thread and I'm following all the advice. I also lowered oc to 2.4 and 2.5 and adjusted ram voltage and vcore acordingly.

devilsrejection.. That is really quite funny. MSI made it so that it locks it when you set it to 67mhz. Its part of the way the board works. You can run pci bus a few mhz out of spec and it wont do anything. IN FACT.. the fluctuation allowed by the crystal that generates the mhz is probably within 1mhz. if you notice with cpuz sometimes your fsb will go up or down by .5 or so. well 1.0 isnt that far off.
Anyway, to quote the good doctor "its all within respectabe limits"
Guys, bios is 1.51. No need to set at 67 anymore to lock!!! if you don't believe me you can try it yourselves with clockgen.
you mean bios 1.51 beta? so how do you set the lock then?Quote:

any bios after 1.37 I believe.. look in the 939 tips and tricks thread for the bios'sQuote:

Small FFTs only stress a small part of the CPU (I fergit -maybe just the float point parts?)
Blend starts by stressing the memory controller (1024M) and memory subsystem. 18hrs of small ffts means nothing (except that it can run 18hrs of small ffts....)
When I do custom, I go from 1024-4096 so as to burnin the memory subsystem in a more/different way than memtest can.......
(No I can't get prime to do it right @ 2650 either so there! (need nyeah smiley) :brick:
MSI K8N Neo2-939
TIP: bios 1.36b and 1.37 and modded variants seem to work best for bh5/bh6
Is bios 1.36b the same as 1.36 ?
I do not see a 1.36a
Dudes, the Insert procedure have today again saved me more than 10 cmos jumper clear hulabaloo does it work with your comps too? If it does work it should be a tip at the beginning of this thread as there is nothing about it written in the manual ;).
Saulous
Pretty much common knowledge :) But I don't see how adding it would hurt.
Gee.. finals be over, new CPUs be in-stock!

Will this board work with my 550W True Control?
I don't see why not :)Quote:

I've seen somebody post they had problems with Antec PSUs. Anybody have it working with a TrueControl/TruePower PSU?
I have been runing mine with a True Control 550 for months @260x11 1:1 with out issue.

Excellent! One more question - what voltages are you getting? Especially the 12V line.
Im trying to flash my bios but cant seem to get it right
What am i doing wrong?? please dont give link to msi's description
This is what im typing and then the error comes up at the bottom
I have a boot disk and the other disk has awfl833d.exe and w7025nms_141mod
thx

orker, try adding the extension of the file.
Its ok ive successfully flashed.. The file i was using from http://www.lejabeach.com/MSIK8N/k8nneo2.html wasnt working
I used the one in post#1 of this thread instead :)
WHen i boot it says "141" so its worked but i dont have the extra voltage options of 13 and 15% for instance.. It also remembered my oc'ed settings which i thought was strange
Measured with a Fluke 88 at the 20 pin molex.Quote:

Now ask me if I'm happy with the True Control
Blue078
Sure. Are you happy with the True Control
I sure am, since it was $15 for me to upgrade from a 460W Enermax!
i'm using 1.37 modded bios and when i set the VID to +13%, 15% + 18% and then save and exit the volatge goes back to default? but +10% works anyone having the same problem?
Yup, common problem with that bios.
If you want up to 1.75Vcore try 1.36 or 1.35 or 1.33.
ok thanks Bryon, guess i'll give 1.36 a go.
I would be for what you payed for it :DQuote:

has there been any success with additional NB cooling on this mobo? i know of the lack of STOCK thermal paste on the NB, (which mine didnt)...but it looks "flat" and seems to make good contact with the stock cooler...
i can tell right off that a taller HS (like the NB-1C) AINT going to work on this (way too close to the AGP slot  )
additionally, has anyone noticed any need to "sink" any chips or MOSFETS? the 3 FETS on the "back" of the mobo worry me...not a whole lot of air gets back there
thats 2 strikes against this MSI layout...but if it OC's better than this Abit i guess ill work around the layout :toast:
preping this pup for the FX-55/MachII/OCZBooster :bananal:THRASHING :bananal: its going to get... :D
I don't think any aditional cooling on the chipset is necessary. just clean off the stock paste and use your own. I think I killed mine with the booster so you may want to put some sinks on there in strategic areas.
such as...?Quote:

flipping that AGP lock will be "fun"...
well, i see :worship: OPP :worship: is running a MCX159 ... ;)Quote:

Another chip that gets a bit hot is a small one on the down left side of the cpu area, if you've the stock heatsink installed you won't be able to see it but because its surface is small i doubt that a heatsink can be fitted there, only by using artic silver epoxy. Also a set of the vcore mosfets get hot when i use 1.75Vcore but haven't use any extra cooling on those.
so, the things ive circled in the pic get hot?Quote:

yup, thing is that the mosfets on the left (the ones for the vcore) only the bottom set seems to get hotter than the top ones.
Are you sure that there are mosfets at the back side of the mobo ??
yep :(
i drew in *ABOUT* where the FETS on the front are in relation the the ones on the back...it cant be a coincidence that they are spaced like that and NOT related...
EDIT:
just so you know who/what your dealing with, here is a pic of what i put on my sig-rig NF7-s...i am the GAWD of OVERKILL!!
ah, i see... hell how can we cool those mosfies ...?!
Had a similar mosfet cooling on my nf7 :D
not like urs tho man! WoW :p:
btw, did you add a fan on top of them? because without a fan the heatsinks work as insulators since the nf7's vcore mosfets are getting EXTREMELY hot when you run more than 1.8vcore ;)
Tend to measure them when i had that babe before and they were hitting 100oC +++ my temp probe couldn't go more than 99oC :D
getting off topic a bit, but yes, 2x 60mm fans (see sig)
as for cooling the "back" FETS...thats strike 3 against MSI's layout...
ummmm...epoxy on "spacers" so that they will touch the mobo tray...
Good idea but, what if something goes wrong and something sorts out the leg of the mosfets :D
Bring on the bbq's!!! :D
ya, wouldnt that be GREAT way to kill a FX-55 :slap:Quote:

ill be running my first set of tests on air and "out-of-case" but my 55 wont be here till late in the week...
i don't think that cooling those mosfets (the ones at the back side of the mobo) will offer much, only stable vcore IF they get very hot!
