same as mine, 4.5Ghz @ 1.45V, and runs cool around 70C, batch 3850A796 .. need to try 4.6Ghz, but Im waiting for my mobo to be replaced from RMA
-
Man I wish mine ran that cool at 1.45v. That is what mine is at 1.35v prime95. I have an excellent overclocker but on the flip side runs a little hotter than the norm.
-
This classified board is finicky and I am not used to it yet, I came from a Gigabyte. I am slowly get a little better with it...

I hope mine gets here Friday sometime so I can test it on my newly acquired MSI Eclipse Plus (with the NF200 chipset). Aso just bought a new case (Cooler Master HAF 932). This case is big and wide. It's gonna be fun! Thinking of taking a few pictures if anyone's interested...

Can prime my 920 D0 with 4510 HT on for 30 minutes but temps are around 85-90C on water with room temp 26C.
This evening I will try a 1.5h prime session as the weather is cold today.

I saw today a 3902axxx batch out at the store. I was so close on grabbing it anyone tried a CPU from 09 yet?

I tried 3851Axxx and it was worse than 3850A795 which is a really nice CPU.
For comparison, whatever the 3850 did, the 3851 needed 0.1V more to do.
So maybe the batches are starting to degrade again, or its just that the first batches were 975 binned that were re-labeled to 920 due to lack of production unit and the new batches are lowered binned cpus.
Time will tell I guess.
Anyway, I Just got a D0 3850A795 and Bloodrage GTI, together with Kingston T1 (Elpidia Hyper chips), they make some very nice results.
http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/1420/32m7m52s.jpg
The Bloodrage is a very nice board, too bad it stopped at the famous 222 "wall".
-
Damn thats very nice OC, what sort of temp you getting ?
-
Didn't really looked at the temps much, I need to make a serious run with LinX and see.
With my current WC setup I should probably be going at around 75c-80c degrees.

My D0 CPU arrived and I just finished hooking everything up except the HD/CD Drives. I dialed it instantly to 200 bclk and it POSTs just fine. The IOH Temp is Super Hot! It got all the way to 85c and still climbing up! Man oh man...I need a fan to cool it down. What's the highest IOH temp before I start to worry about it? I took some pictures and will post them here as soon as I find my adapter so I can upload the pictures to Photobucket.

how do you check the IOH temperature? the MB temp under everest?

I'm seeing 90/87/89/81 in LinX, and 80~83c in Prime, ambient is also around 26~27C, HOT HOT HOT! :flame:

I think 4.51Ghz with HT enable is getting close to the limit of this chip for 24/7 with water. :yepp:

It's in the BIOS under Hardware Monitor. This is on Eclipse Plus so yours may be a little different.

Check the voltage for the IOH.
Should be 1.1v/1.5v(stock).

I got a 920 from him batch 3849A895 that is a worse chip than my 920 C0. This W3520 came from NewEgg, its a 3848A352...

namegt,
What mobo did you use for your 229x21 screen? Also, did you find that your max clock did or did not track well with Vcore? That is, many 920s, both C0 and D0 seem to reach their peak at relatively low voltage, so I'm wondering if you kept getting more CPU clock as you went to 1.45, 1.50, 1.55 etc.?

Yep, this one came from pao_revolt and is Batch# 3849B203. I ordered my Xeon yesterday from NewEgg. I was hopping to have it hooked up and ready to go today BUT it shipped from the New Jersey warehouse! Being in SoCal usually everything I order from NewEgg I get the next day. Anyway, I won't get my W3520 until Tuesday.

I hope mine performs as well as yours does. It would be cool to run that puppy at 4.4G's@~1.26v on my Classified.

Yes it is, I am going to try some DDR3 2000 in it today and tweak on it some more, I had to run 2.6 divider with the 1600...

I can't wait to test mine. Some other guys at hw.no got the same batch and they're all looking very good. Glad I went for an Xeon over the 920 D0.

Being a newbie somewhat I am still tweaking to get stable OC state. So I will post back as soon as I am able to obtain one. For now, I'm having stability issue, which may not indicate a bad chip, probably just something I'm not doing correctly.

Where are you at...4GHz + I would hope.
I have the same step as you so I'm really anxious to see how it does....just don't have my board and ram yet.

My Xeon W3520 is the Batch # 3848A352. I run 50nm Elpida Hypers. I am having excellent luck with it. Seems the Uncore is stable up to about 4200MHz or so as well. Very good batch IMO.
You can see my results here!

I tried the DDR3 2000 its crucial and takes 2v is what it says on it, I have not had any luck with it. I put the DDR-1600 Corsair Dominator back in it and hooked the OCZ Cryo Z to it running it on 2:6 divider. I have only had it going a few minutes but having trouble getting to 230, I guess I need to tweak on it a little more or this may be all she has captain...

If I up my PCI-E frequency to 105 or 110, I can get my D0 to POST at 225 blck, but it won't boot any OS. When it finishes POSTing and it tries to go the next step (booting from an OS), the screen just becomes blank, nothing on the screen. I haven't tried anything higher than 225, so I don't know if it would work or not. Gotta give it a shot.

The fact that you can do a prime run at 235.5x21 tells me you have a lot of headroom, especially with better RAM. As I recall, you have a 3845B027, right? Do you find it's vcore setting tops out relatively low? Also, is your val screen with DICE, water, something else?

That is still way too far for me. Some how my D0 would not go past 210 bclk without having stability issue. It may just be something I'm not doing correctly.

No its the 3848A352, I started out on water to get used to the motherboard and all and see how far I could push it, then I put it on the OCZ Cryo Z single stage. Next will be LN2 or DICE, I am having to give it 1.425 volts to make it through the cpu test in 06 @ 4.9Ghz.
The phase change only holds it at about -2 - -0c under load. I am having trouble getting 237, I can get 236 but not 237. I am going to have to tweak on it a little more and see if I can get passed 236.
I did manage 33183 in 06 and 42841 in 05 today, I cant figure out how to upload the saved results but I do have a SS. I need to get my water cooling back on the 4870x2s... :D

I don't understand why using two kits of tri-channel memory, my Corsair is able to boot and run just fine at 9-9-9-24 2N while my OCZ Platinum just simply cannot do it. It can't boot. Both are DDR3-1600Mhz speed with the OCZ's timing of 7-7-7-24 (1.65V) and Corsair's timing of 9-9-9-24 (1.65V). On both kits, I can POST and run fine at 21x200. As soon as I up the bclk to 205, the OCZ can POST, but can't load the OS. The Corsair can that just fine. I've tried (on the OCZ) both manual timing and auto timing, no luck, the PC crashes every single time. The Corsair works just fine.

About 4655mhz but I took it off water cooling before I ever tried changing the PCIE frequency past about 102/103 so I am sure I could have got a lot more out of it than that...

Generally not , many do 4.0GHz HT on more than 1.2v. But angelreaper got a nice one:up:. But they do run a bit cooler

Mem freq is 1640
Uncore is at Auto (same as 8), result in a 3280
The Corsair works just fine using this setting, but the OCZ craps out each time even though it has the better timing than the Corsair. Time for RMA?
BTW, what does Uncore freq do anyway?
On the 222+ blck, I can run stable at 16x225 (3.6Ghz) but any higher than that the PC craps out. Vcore is all the way up to 1.35v something. Is this D0 a bad overclocker or is it just something I'm not doing correctly here?

IIRC you are using a MSI board correct? Are you running a multi video card setup? I would bump the IOH Voltage up to 1.35v to see if that adds any stability. On both my EX58 and Classified board I need around 1.3v-1.35v for any Bclock above 210. The suggestion to bump up the vDimm and VTT sound good to me as well.

My first i7 920 D0 stepping cpu and bclk wise, it has alot of potential on plain water. Although, vcore wise it's a mixed bag > http://i4memory.com/f80/first-i7-920...results-17703/ heh.

want to see the fastest i7 920 on the planet courtesy of Windows 7 and CPUZ flakiness during Hyper Pi 8x 32M Pi test ? How about 12200Mhz - 61x200bclk LOL
http://fileshosts.com/intel/DFI/DFI_...m_8x_12200.png
Update: interesting the vcore required for HyperPi 8x 32M PI test might be just for that, as I started testing Prime95 small FFTs 1hr stable at 20x200 = 4000Mhz at 1.312v and Prime95 Blend custom 5.4GB test at same 1.312v and it's running without problems. So HyperPi 8x32M Pi test might come down to memory/voltage related settings. Will try lower vcore after the custom Blend test and then LinX.
You guys should try HyperPi v0.99b 8x 32M pi test to compare against your prime95/linx runs ;)

Thanks for that. Did you by chance try 110, or did you go straigt from 105 to 112?

The Corsair works just fine using this setting, but the OCZ craps out each time even though it has the better timing than the Corsair. Time for RMA?
BTW, what does Uncore freq do anyway?
On the 222+ blck, I can run stable at 16x225 (3.6Ghz) but any higher than that the PC craps out. Vcore is all the way up to 1.35v something. Is this D0 a bad overclocker or is it just something I'm not doing correctly here?
Have you tried the 6x memory multi? I can't get my 920 stable too far over 4.2 with the memory on 8x. With the multi at 6x, it goes to 4.4 no problem even with the same uncore frequency.

Xeon W3520 Batch# 3848A352
First boot @4.4GHZ 1.328v(Idle) :yepp: . This is not primestable for 24/7 yet (gotta work more on it), but I'm pretty happy with my D0-babe's first attempt.

Heres mine, still working with it have a leaky radiator so can't leave prime on for very long :ROTF: New radiator tommorow or next day and will try to push more.

So you ended up with an Xeon, Sam? You may not recognise me here, but I posted a few times in the i7 thread at hw.no before you got banned with a different nickname. Same batch as me, I assume you got it from Digital Impuls?

I am still playing with my D0. mine is watercooled
12GB of ram is a pain to get settled down

Great result Sam.
Please not get banned here.. :D

RR, you obviously have great skill in OCing, only Anand Tech with a well stocked scientific lab and big budget has bested you. If you want to keep your hard-earned secrets to yourself, I wouldn't blame you, but if you want to share whatever magic settings you've discovered, I'd love to learn from you cause I'm stuck at 234.4x21 at low volts so I think there's more progress I can make. Anyhow, I sincerely hope you get all the accolades you deserve.

LOL, Thanks, but this not final yet. The best part is to follow (hopefully :) ), but over here, it is harder to get banned for good results, LOL. :D

Yes the more PCIE the farther I could go, I saw it was on 114 today when I cranked up the OCZ Cyro Z. I do not remember the volts and I took it apart earlier to make sure there is no condensation in the cpu, everything looked great and dry. I know all settings are in the green shaded settings and some are not even in the green, no need to go into the red zone. I know the RAM was 1,66, PLL 1.8 - 1.9 does not make much difference, vtt 1.3v I bump it to 1.4 or 1.425 with the utilility, ICH was 1.3 or 1.275, I boot a 220 and then use the eleet overclock tool. Seems I can vary the voltages one way or the other a few increments does not really matter, this is a great motherboard...

Road,
I googled the OCZ cryo z and found it at Central Computers for just $399. The only validation I've seen higher than yours was from Anand tech, and he went through 15 liters of LN2, and got temps down to -186C, so to say he had more resources than you is an understatement. Your validation is positively shocking, especially considerng how you achieved it, hope to see more numbers in the future. And thanks for the tips, I'll try them out.

Just got my 920 d0, did a quick 06 run at 4.2ghz at 1.3v (Just a wild stab, no idea what it actually needs). My batch is 3849B028, wonder if its any good or not as I haven't seen anybody else with this stepping. Will get to real testing on wednesday, after my finals are over.

Where did you order yours? Seems like batch B0?? OCs the best out of the bunch.

I got it at a computer store near me (jandr).

Where's Jandr?
Now, if I understand it correct, on the i7 system, there is no real benefit running high bclk vs. low bclk. The real benefit is gained when a higher speed is obtained. In other words, the higher the speed, the more benefici regardless of bclk, speed? So, that means if I can obtain a stable speed at 4.305Ghz (21x205) vs. 4.275Ghz (19x225), the higher speed (in this case
t is the 4.305Ghz) that is more beneficial, correct?

What would you recommend for air overclocking (TRUE) on a medium budget, Q9650 or 920 D0? I do not wish to spend much money on motherboards, it would be from the Gigabyte UD3 or UD4 series for both CPUs. I do not wish to bench them, I just need a 24/7 stable system for rendering and 3D animation. Is it possible to run these guys over in the 4.2-4.5 range for stability on air, or it's about the 4.0 range, which you might recommend.

Your Ram/uncore/qpi speed will suffer a little bit, but cpu speed trumps all as you'll have more bandwidth than you'll actually need.

That’s the same batch # as my D0 and it came from Micro Center (the price is down to $199.99 now). I hope it clocks better than my C0 (4263MHz 21X203)? I’ll find out in a couple of days.
Good luck with yours.

Did you buy yours locally or through internet order? I know my local Micro Center still has only C0/C1. I hope they still have the $199.99 price when the D0 shows up.

I'm just curious what are your temps? idle and load and what cooling you have.

I bought my D0 in the store Sunday. The salesman said they had at least ten more D0’s at that time the rest were C0’s.

I test mine at so many speeds, I will double-check a few and let you know.

What's the location of your store?
