I can confirm this also, it only happens on a reboot/restart. If i lose the X-Fi i have to shut down and power up, the X-Fi is back again.

are you using the updated F7 bios dated Oct 12?Quote:

a simple mistake though.
actually the updated bios file is dated Oct 12 NOT Oct 13. The archive is dated Oct 13 (probably due to the autoexec.bat being dated Oct 13). The original bios file was dated Oct 11.Quote:

thats the first place people would look dont you think. you and i and some others might looka t the bios file directly but other might not, thats why i mentioned that the way i did.
its confusing to say the least.
but the updated F7 did something i cant explain, my 8x and 7x overclocks are not working anymore, i was doing higher clocks and now it wont, not even when i go back to the original F7 or the F6,,,
one thing i have never asked anyone, when flashing via DOS have any of you used the "Flash Bootblock" feature ? i have yet to do that..
this is something tha maybe some people with issues may try as it shouldnt hurt as each bios contains the bootblock, but if its not told to flash the bootblock it wont, and if your blootblock is corrupted... well you can see where you could be getting some nasty issues.
I am still having a problem with losing my X-Fi even after updating to bios of 10/12/06.Quote:

ok and have you swapped pci slots
are you disabling the option "keep dmi data"
have you checked to see how many other devices are sharing that same IRQ
and your SURE you grabbed the NEW F7... the one that we talked about just above. the website shows its date as 10/13 the bios date when you right click it and look at properties is actually 10/12 and the autoexec.bat as he mentioend is 10/13
be sure your using the NEW F7
i would suggest uninstalling all drivers and software, delete the creative folder, and change it to a different slot see what happens.
There's obviously something broken with the board/bios when so many people have the same problem. though, i haven't had any trouble since updating to the original F7 bios, which i'm still using.
I actually blame creative... for not giving us a PCIE variant :)
So thats that then, new E6600 ordered + a Scythe Ninja Plus Rev. B. God willing this new combo will improve things a little.
Wonder if anyone has installed a Ninja Plus on the DQ6?
Good luck with it, Richard, I hope it all comes together for you.
Can I just recommend that when you first put it together you do a minimalist build ie CPU, one stick of RAM, Mobo, vid card and one HDD for a start. Then add your extra components one at a time, whilst continally testing your (hopefully probable) overclock, so if any problems crop up you'll be able to identify the source immediately.
(and I'd leave that buggy X-Fi till last :D )
X-Fi...bloody Creative, looked great on paper didn't it?
I'm sure it will be OK once they sort the drivers out. Even their initial release drivers had problems with random crackling and popping. Creative are usually better than that.
Ok, the updated F7 Bios let me boot at 402x7 but not stable, I couldn't even post at that before with this crap OCZ ram. But Im sitting at 375x7 now stable, before i was at 350x7.
I didn't play around with any settings to try and get 400 stable, I just put it at 400 and booted, Ill mess with it later.
Getting tired of waiting. What other cheap RAM kicks ass with the DS3? I paid $199 for my TEAM D9 kit.Quote:

have you guys heard of any other baords that have these issues ? i havent.
I don't blame Creative for this one. Not at all. I'm still on F4 and my X-Fi is running great.Quote:

Sure they make great hardware (my x-fi was seconded to none on sq and features when it worked) but their drivers suck Lestat's balls. And their technical support staff must have trained gigabytes or something cause neither of them seem to be able to even read a problem report never mind fix anything.
Also note that the x-fi disappearing act is not only on gigabyte boards, when I was testing mine I observed the behavior on an asus board (865p) and a Hp board (815e) and on many different os'es (vista rc1, rc2, xp pro, and server 2003) . So to blame gigabyte 100% is not accurate. Now that is not to say some bios miracle wont lessen the appearance of this issue but It simply will not solve creative cards issues all together.
So in short dump the X-FI for a mature card with mature drivers from creative or the onboard sound until creative solves THEIR issues.

you guys do realize that there are much better cards out there.
for the same price or cheaper then creative's cards.
what would those be?!
bluegears b-Enspirer 7.1
check the reviews from a few websites on google.
there are also a multitude of auiophile sound cards that would make the creative cards look like childs play.
M-Audio makes some killer Audiophile cards too

I have a DQ6 that I have been trying out with Vista x86 (now on 5744).
The good news is that HD Audio works over SPD/IF (the Asus P5B Deluxe produced only silence) and the system works reasonably well as an HTPC. The LynxTWO-B sound card also works OK with XP drivers, although it is not part of the HD audio system.
Outstanding issues:
- Using a Samsung SATA DVD drive is tricky. In AHCI mode, on the JMicron controller, it works only as a reader. To get writing capabilities needs IDE mode, which is a pity as reading is much faster in AHCI mode;
- In earlier BIOS revisions at least, the SATA DVD was not recognised on the ICH8R in AHCI mode;
- Fast forwarding through a DVD is not as smooth as under XP/MCE2005 (with a LiteOn IDE DVD writer)
- S1 power saving mode seems to work (winking power light) although the system does not always wake from it cleanly. S3 mode seems result in a deeper sleep that wakes up less reliably (eg, cpu fan warning sounds persitently);
- Not sure what the best memory settings are. The SPD settings on the OCZ Platinum PC-6400 (800) 5-4-5-15 / 2.1v RAM are v conservative. Not sure what the optimal manual settings are (eg, voltage). I don't need to overclock, but memory bandwidth is the lowest factor in Vista's experience index. (Cpu is a E6300)
- The ATI control centre crashes Vista on startup (1600XT). Probably a driver issue, but may be a bios one;
I have yet to try the x64 version.
Like I said the last time you posted the exact same thing, please give us another card with full EAX and OpenAL acceleration, 128 voices, and an equivalent 3DHeadphone mode. There are other cards that outperform the X-Fi for home theater and audio use, but the X-Fi is the best gaming card out there.Quote:

Only way is to ask or check the mobo before buying.
