P-M to C-M multiplier problem

I have been useing a 1.6 P-M at 2.5ghz 24/7 for 6 months now on my asus P4C800-E Deluxe whith the stock CT-479 cooler.

well i got a celeron -M laptop on black friday for $380.00 - 5% back in a gift card from circuit city credit card, well i did the pin mod on it , and the celery ran 2.0ghz, but it was not completely stable, probably because of the low 1.2volts core that i can not change.

so i am putting the 1.6 P-M in the laptop and just put the 1.5 celery in the Asus board.

my problem is i can't change the multiplier of the celeron, is this normal, is there something i can do to get use of the multipliers.

it is curretnly running 15 x 166fsb and ddr 166 pc2700 at 2.5ghz, seam perfectly stable, but i want 800fsb with a lower multiplier maybe.

anybody know how to change the multiplier, or is it not possible???

Celeron M's aren't enabled to do Speedstep, so the multi isn't adjustable.

Can anybody tell me how to mod oz. what to do with power connector and jumpers. Like solder on other side or sth.

Yeah no multi change, but have you tried doing the u-wire trick for vCore ?

In the boot options, disable the option to halt on errors. I think that it runs along the following line "Display F1 if there's an error." I disabled it because the fans that I use don't have rpm sensors, and the mobo considers no rpm on the CPU fan connector to be an error.

So what BIOS's allow multiplier adjustment? I wanted to get my P4P800-E DLX to be able to change the multiplier in BIOS for my higher multi Dothans. I flashed the BIOS with the 1024.001 BIOS for the P4C800-E DLX and it worked after the first restart but then it wouldn't post again until I reset the CMOS. Why would it post only after the CMOS has been reset? I flashed the bootblock per the instructions on the first page "afudos /iromname.rom /n /pbnc".

So I have basically two questions:

Why would the MB post only after a CMOS reset?
What BIOS can I use on the P4P800-E DLX that will give me multiplier adjustments in the BIOS?

1. Sometimes that happens to me. I'm just glad that it posts after I pull and replace the battery.

2. I don't think there is a BIOS for that board that will adjust the multi. There is for the P4P800SE, and the non-E P4P800's (DLX and non) can get multi adjustment if you flash them to the SE BIOS. With the -E I think the only thing that will work are the Windows based utilities (which, of course, don't help if you need to lower the multi to get into Windows).

No, the P4C800-E Deluxe was one of the early ones to receive the multiplier adjust! I have tried both 1023 and 1024 and both ALLOW it :D

My starting error was due to a bad connection, so check all the pins on CPU and Ct-479, and replace carefully :)

I can now adjust the multiplier in the BIOS on my P4P800-E DLX using the latest BIOS for the P4P800 SE, 1010. I haven't noticed any problems using the BIOS other than the Promise controller not working but I use the ICH5R southbridge anyway.

So if you have a P4P800-E DLX and you want to be able to adjust the CPU multiplier in the BIOS, use the P4P800 SE.

That's good to hear. Sorry for misinforming others; I don't know why it wouldn't work for me, and now I've sold the board.

Ah, glad to see it's all been cleared up :D

Just booted in at 3GHz, gets 24Sec SuperPi...
Will try faster soon, but still have to burn in the RAM write a couple of articles and finish the system off! :rolleyes:

thanks for making that clear, i have been thinking about flashing a bios from a different board into it, but didn't because i was unsure if it would work.
Do you need bootblock with that bios??

Yes, you need to use the older AFUDOS.

Yes. Using the version of AFUDOS on the first page, type afudos /iromname.rom /n /pbnc.

Has anyone tried mounting a CNPS9500 onto their board yet ? I've got some of the legs left over from my CU7000 and am thinking it might work.

It seems like there are new bios for both P4P800 (1021.006 beta) and P4P800SE (1010 official)
Has anyone tried them out? Notice anything new?

Also, anyone here has a spare shim or wouldn't mind making a few more?
I would be happy to pay for some nice shim so I can use my zalman cnps7000alcu.
I sorta messed up foam from stock hsf really bad, so that's out of the question.
Really like those shims some of you have made from 0.8mm aluminum stocks.

buy old northwood, williamette or tualatin :) they all have IHSes compatible with dothan..

Thanks TXAG ... my PM scales much better now after flashing my P4P800-E with the P4P800SE BIOS ... I did notice my X800 doesn't oc as high but I need to flash back to test that ...

i also just flashed my p4p800-e to se, and i noticed my proc behaves much more normal now, it just becomes unstable instead of hitting a wall a certain speed.
