As I see it at stock, the gtx titan and r290x are equals. They trade blows with each other enough times that there is no clear winner. AND if you warm of the cards before hand, it loses a few points to Titan. In addition, remove of couple gaming evolved titles from the testing suite(sleeping dogs or dirt showdown) and it becomes even more contestable what is fastest.
The only time it does become faster in most settings, is if you turn on a uber setting(which is not turned on by default) where it is uncomfortable loud and basically has an overclock on it.
I wasn't talking about overclocked cards beating stock cards either. I was talking taking cards to the max with ln2 with both cards. Since I thought aussie revhead was into benching and we are talking about world records and benchmarking, I think we should talk about max overclocks of both cards.
Titan from day 1, could reach past 1700mhz(they are well past this now closing in on 1900mhz). And with Titan and r9 290x being so similar clock for clock as seen from the hardware.de review, that advantage is enough to keep it as the worlds fastest from a benching overclockers standpoint.
