ASUS P5B-Deluxe; Problems & Fixes

Hi guys,

I really need your help here.
I'm UNABLE to set the RAM setting at MANUAL at the rated timing (5-5-5-12)

basically i fail memtest.
If the settings are set to SPD i'm passing memtest. when continuing to boot into winXP , CPUZ shows 5-5-5-18.

I'm NOT overclocking in any way, everythign is on AUTO.

All the Voltage settings i have are set to AUTO, except the RAM which i set to 1.9V which is the Rated voltage for this pair per corsair datasheet.

i tried raising volatege up to 2.1v and didnt help. also tried disabling Legacy USB (as was suggested somewhere).
even trying to set 5-5-5-18 manually fials memtset at some point.

I'm quite desprate on this issue, i replaced my pair and still same thing.:confused:

If someone have this Corsair pair and was able top PASS memtest after he switched to manual settings, PLEASE post ALL the BIOS SETUP, or just LOAD the BIOS file here so i can try it myself

My H/W is as follows:

M.B : P5B Deluxe (non wifi)Bios 0711 and now 0804.
RAM : Twin2X2048-6400 (XMS6405v5.1 modules) (this is the CL5 modules)
Video : Gigabyte 6600GT
HDD: Seagate 250GB 16 Mb cache SATA-II
PSU : JSP-tech EZ-COOL 420W

I think u have the same issue with tapakah, u can see it in previous pages, havent found any solution i guess, maybe u better try putting your cpu on other mobo.
We use to call it................FSB WALL

Have u overclocked the cpu/ or at what freq. is the memory running?

Try this:
Set manually memory freq to 533 (=266= 1:1), set memory voltage at 1.8 (u d better set to 2.0V cuz of voltage drop), and let spd at auto.

C-fun - I posted a new topic in this thread but it got moved to the Info and Support forum and buried.

It seems to be a common issue with that RAM (I have the same) - set to SPD and live with the fact that you are at 5-5-5-18 instead of 5-5-5-12.

Some one discovered (I don't know how!) that if you use the following manual setting it is also stable:

5-5-5-12-6-42-3-11-5-14
Disable static read control.

Please post in the Corsair forums and send an email to Asus, maybe they can get this fixed...

The one person says it is 2 hours memtest stable now with those settings, I will try and test it overnight...

The funny thing is it's really not that off - I am Orthos stable at 3.2ghz, no problem for one hour with the "bad" settings.

anybody here who has PCIE 1X issue at 400FSB, but not at 401FSB ?

isn't there a strap thing past 400 fsb in bios ?

there is, so im wondering if that affects the pcie lane speed. seems when the NB is on higher stress it starts bananing

I have pci 1x at 400 and at 450 so dont think it is a strap thing

Well I am 1000% sure that all my drives are hot swappable cuz every single drive I have could be hot swapped on my older board, would be very odd that a newer board would leave out this feature. BTW I found a way to disconnect my drives now, I can do it via Device Manager and just click UNINSTALL on the detected harddrive and it will disconnect the drive, but thats not really using the hotswap green arrow feature like its supposed to. Also I installed audio drivers for the time being cuz I don't have a soundcard yet, now my windows loading bar goes 12,5x across:LOL:

I was wondering, can someone here tell me which soundcard gives the least amount of trouble and issues with this board, then I can buy this card and be done with this issue. I heard X-fi had major issues with this board, is that correct?? If not a X-fi then what other card runs without issues?

PS : To answer Heikis, I too had this PCI lane resetting to x1 but I have this fully fixed now, it never ever goes to 1x anymore. What I did was update my bios to 0711 and manually set voltages in JUMPERLESS CONFIGURATION to,

Manual
400
DDR-800Mhz
Auto
33,33Mhz
D
2,25v
1,3625v
1,4v
1,45v
1,50v
1,057v

I think it has to do something with something not getting enough voltage, cuz no matter what I set my FSB to it won't switch back to 1x anymore:)

swiftex: winxp sp2 does not support 4GB of ram. You might have more luck with a 64 bit OS like the ones mentioned above..

all kidding aside, I understand 32bit mem limitation but should show at least 3gb,

wonder if there is something I missed. my old p4p800e with xp acknowledged 3gb with 4 in.

Yes I have cpu speed set manually to 266. Auto voltages accept for memory which is 2.1. I can disable the multiplier setting or set it manually to 8. I have speedstep disabled. I have all NOS AI oc stuff turned off. I even uninstalled AI Tunner or whatever that asus crack was. No matter what I do it seems to be adjusting me multiplier depending on my load. This is ridiculous. Someone please help? There are no windows power profiles configured or turned on.

ok, this is actually my 2nd p5b board as i sold my first, didn't have any issues with it, but this one when I try to install windows xp, it loads up, I get to the point of installing raid drivers from my usb floppy and it just hangs, I also tried loading the drivers from the cd onto the floppy, same issue, just hangs, but if I connect it to any of my other systems, works fine and loads the drivers, any thoughts or suggestions? I've tried 2 diff disks, same issue, is my usb controller screwed up? no overclocking, changed usb to legacy support.

I have 4gig of ram. If I set the extended address in bios it registers it as 2gig, if I have it off (default if not mistaken) I get 3gig. You got 2 video cards? That might explain for another 512megs going missing.

As well I get 3gig in windows without any switches as well.

OK, two questions:

1. Using 0804 BIOS, why do my AHCI SATA HDDs still power cycle during "soft" Windows restarts? I thought this was fixed on the P5B D.

2. Using the RightMark CPU Clock utility, I'm trying to get C1E/Speedtech to drop the multi and voltage during idle. It only drops the multi - not the voltage, so my temp stays hot. This isn't an issue on my P5W DH.

Please help me. :)

Thanks allot , this solved my problem, how did u get those extra settings, this is very intresting and i would like to get to the bottom of this.
Btw i didnt need to disable Static control read - its just set to AUTO (dont know maybe default AUTO=Disabled ?)

Use memset to see what SPD assigns then input manually and adjust if needed...

Are you saying I can use memset to set values and then test it with 16M or 32M superpi runs if it is stable? Then if the settings from memset are fully stable I just manually enter them in bios and it will run perfectly fine?

I only use memset to determine what is assigned in auto then input manually. But yes, you can use it to change values in Windows and test...can't say it will run "perfectly fine" though :D As far as voltage, that's just somethig you have to try. Your memory will let you know if it doesn't like too little or too much. Longevity is another matter...

1. That problem isn't BIOS related. If you install the betaversion of Intel Matrix Storage Manager, your harddrives will no longer shut themselves off every time you reboot. They can be found here: http://www.station-drivers.com/telec...0.2002-all.exe

No more HDD power cycles! Will this also fix the problem on my P5W DH?

Yup - works on the P5W DH. Sorry if this is old news - I don't know how I missed this.

Ok so 2,35v would still be safe for memory rated at 2,2v? Maybe I can use that and see if I can get it to run at 3-3-3-8:) Will check, any ballistix users here, lemme know what voltage you guys are running, still learning all about c2d:)

Just start by running memtest from a floppy or CD and test test test :D I do believe before I shipped my board off to a fellow OC'er I tried some different voltages with my Corsair ram and it errored like crazy when I went up to a certain point (might have been 2.4ish) so again, test test test...

EDIT: We are all (most of us) still learning C2D ;)

Anyone hear anything about a BIOS to fix the hard boot? I heard the P5W has a beta out that fixes it.
