Hmmz... Kinda weird... If I pay no attention at all to those offsets all my DC's run dualprime at the same temps. No one knows the story behind the offset? :stick: :slap:Quote:

too bad good probes cost more than i want to spend.
So true... But hell, I wanna know :rolleyes:Quote:

First time, 9 layers, 30C idle but no boot into windows. Second time, 7 layers, but same thing. Third time the block got stuck on a capacitor, so absolutely NO contact whatsoever and it shut down within seconds of being turned on. the ASC wasn't even disturbed  So I just remounted, pushed the damn capacitor out of the way but same thing. Finally 5 layers worked, temps haven't gone down too much though :( 1-4 degrees at most, damn thing fluctuates so much.
I was so nervous, thought it was dead after it shut down immediately
What wb are you using? I still don't understand what you used electrical tape for..?Quote:

Not sure.. with the screws torqued down it should have been ok, but anyways.. even with a 7c thermal offset my temps seem amazingly better.. still and all, waiting for AS5 to cure.. but have to have my machine off this weekend as my video cards ship out tonight and my new ones don't arrive until Tuesday.. doh!
The tubing from my video card to MP-05 CPU block is a bit on the long side, so it tends to bend the video card down and push the CPU block up. The CPU block contacts the socket, so there is no pressure on the lower part of the core unless I put electrical tape on the raised part of the socket so compensate a little. 9 layers was too much, no contact on the top of the core, as was 7 layers but 5 did the trick.Quote:

an ok one. still sucks though. 3ghz@ 1.6v @ 14*c idle stable (just about, 12*c is)
CCBWE 0602 BPMW
at 1.54v 2.7 is possible, but not much higher.
at 1.6v 2.8-2.88 is possible on water.
im soo unlucky. this is like the 6th cpu in a row with a bad setpping. the only good one ive had was a 3700, which i killed atfter 6 days. lol

One you definately should add to the avoid list cuz its probably the worst 170 in existance is the CCBWE 0541RPMW. I had one at one point and it was 2550 or so tops with 1.55v. If you search around you will find other results with these chips.
I changed from AS5 to ceramique and load temps dropped 3-4C. Ambient temp is the same. I used a plastic baggie to spread it, since it's too thin for the credit card method. IHS still intact on my 0550vpmw. Gained an extra 50mhz!
That's interesting. Was the AS5 "set in"?Quote:

I had it on there for a long time. Does ceramique also benefit from being "set in"?Quote:

Sounds like it was just a bad mount, or maybe ambient temp change.
Ceramique works good with an IHS just place a small drop in the center and let the compression of the HS spread it. Cant do it that way with a naked core though, have to spread it.

since this is discussion thread #2, would it possible to add a spreadsheet with results of different steppings rather then just a rough average of what each does? i would love to know how people are getting 2.9 with my stepping.
SOrry but I can't keep quiet. If no one posts their results, there wouldn't be a discussion now would there? If 10 people got this chip and one posts and the other stay quiet, there wouldn't be a discussion. Discussion forums are for discussions. Nothing wrong with a few people getting great chips and compare with each other. It's not like they are making fun of the people with no so great steppings. Btw, I will not reply to any comments as I do not wish to have this thread closed.Quote:

I had a 0530 TPMW. With the IHS on, max was about 2.75 on water. Took the thing off and 2.9ghz at 1.55vcore no problems. Still shoots up to 48c on full load. THese things are H-O-T.
0530TPMW owners are long gone. Besides, if your chip performs poorly, then regardless of the stepping, it's time to get a new one:p:
ive already tried the 0546XPMW and not going to buy unless its a CCB1E :)
Then find one! It's not that hard :cool:Quote:

Worried about chipping the core? Worry no more!
