New Swiftech H20-X20 Edge cooling kits

Yeah they shouldn't really be compared to the H20-X20 performance-wise...
But if you're on a tight budget & realise that performance is only a bit better or equal to the best HSF's...
Then there's nothing wrong with a H70 or Eco C240, especially if internal space is an issue for your build.

Aw crap, just checked with the primary distributor for Australia (Mittoni)...
The new kits won't be with them until 4-6 wks, so add a few more before it's in most of the retail channel.
Sigh, anyone know of a reseller in NA who already has them, and can ship overseas?

Even though these kits are AIO aswell, imho there is no sense to put them in same category as those ones. These kits have almost all things common with serious self assembled LC sys - good component choice, good performance but unfortunately also higher price and bigger size. Only thing that's different from self assembled LC builds - is that one spends a bit more time to select these or similar components himself and possibly at different shops. All the rest - common with self-assembled ones and different from other AIO LC sys-s out there.
Hats off for swiftech for releasing serious product that can ease entry in LC without performance compromises. These truly can be advised for those firstimers at LC wishing for better cooling solution then top air coolers, unlike H50 alike subpar gimps that have LC only in name, not in expected performance.

One of the most substantial differences is the pump technology. One is derived from aquarium technology, the other is an industrial class pump. Manufacturing cost for these pumps is 1/4 that of ours. These low cost pumps are relatively unproven, with ~2 years of activity in the field. Ours have been around for 6 years. Another difference explaining the price is volume manufacturing. Because these devices were adopted by some very arge OEM's, the cost savings are now trickling down to the consummer, which is a good thing by the way; the biggest problem as I see it, is that these devices where designed for large OEM's who have much different requirements than the DIY users.

Another question I have in my mind, based on 10 years of experience in this field, is how really "maintenance free" these devices will end up being after a couple of years of operations.

Thanks Mr. Swiftech, say hello to the Mrs's. You bring up a very good point and that isn't something you would see in standard AIO LC reviews. Temps, temps, temps is all that seems to get posted and viewed. It's always good to know more about the product than just performance details.

I havn't really kept up on the latest low cost kits. I understand they are getting better, but the great thing about these is the parts. Everything they are made of is the same thing we all use in our day to day custom WC rigs clear up to the show rigs that can cost upwards of 20G. I've had experience with low cost pumps fail before.

Oh and WC is a sickness, you might start out with a kit...but it won't be long before you're adding something. If you find yourself tinkering with things, you should consider options that allow expansion. My 2c.:up:

God it is a sickness ... I started with a Thermal take Kandalf LCS $329 complete case and kit * shudder* the case was good kit not so much. Due to noise induced migraines and wanted quieter .. ended up completely replacing it with six months .. 3 years later my current builds hit 5k and that's without the actual computer.:shrug:

But as my wife put up on facebook every time a Box arrives his smile gets bigger and bigger.

Lower price and make the CPU block optional, then you have my business. Till then good luck.

Fans it depends on how cfm loud your willing to put up with , but I've haven't heard of anybody being unhappy with the current low noise cfm king Scythe gentle typhoon ap-15's (1850rpm model )

The radiator part of the kit is the same as any MCR ( brass tubes, copper fins ) except for the modified plenums. The block is a low-cost version of the Apogee XT which has a copper base.

Even with dissimilar metals there is some amount of controversy regarding galvanic corrosion within watercooling loops. The physics behind galvanic corrosion requires there to be an electrical connection between the metals in addition to the ionic conduction path. I'm not convinced that distilled deionized water is conductive enough for that, so I'm still confused how it's even possible for galvanic corrosion to occur within a watercooling loop. I wouldn't bother with corrosion inhibitor products, and some aftermarket coolants have been shown to create nasty deposits after a while. EDIT: I have no intention on derailing this thread. If anyone would like to discuss corrosion, use a PM

Gentle Typhoon AP15s are excellent fans for radiators given their low noise level. If you want more flow, you'll have to put up with more noise.

Okay so we're talking only copper & brass that could potentially mingle via water, what about this modified plenum you speak of?
Yes I did some further research and the biggest consensus by far was for the AP-15's.
Especially considering they're for a rad. which will be used on a HTPC/PVR build.

How would this perform in a case like the FT02 where you would lay the rad flat on the bottom (on top of the 180mm fans)??
