Thank you!
I picked mine up two days ago. For the life of me I can't get this thing to power down even if I hold the power button down for no matter how long. Windows shuts down, fans on, mobo lights stay lit.... I've read one solution is to do a HARDRESET of the cmos, but i'm not sure the right procedure to do a hard reset on this board. Seems the bios clear jumper is only for enabling/disabling the switch on the back. I've used the Clear Cmos button on the back but I'm not sure how to go about the normal steps of switching a jumper and removing the battery. Anyone aware of how to go about doing a hardreset without the normal bios jumpers. Perhaps I have a board that needs to be RMA'd if this doesnt fix the problem. The dx58so I upgraded from has no problems with shutdown.
Care package from Asus. They sent me an i7 975 to hold me over until they get me a 980X. They also sent an awesome Antec True Power 1200 watt PSU that I will use for my similar Star Wars build.

Going into this build:

My Rampage III build may not be the fastest, but it will be the sexiest.
thats going to be an awesome build DB
Just thinking... ive ordered mine and still w8ting =/
Is there any way to take off only HS from NB leaving rest in place?
Can someone please give me the exact dimensions of this board? From what I can see it's a bit bigger than the normal ATX standard?
No, there is no way to do that, as NB+SB parts are actually one heat sink and mosfet is connected via heat pipe. Still you can install fusion block on top of the stock cooler. My NB runs at 49° and SB at 45° according to Probe, while crunching 24/7 at 4.5Ghz with 215 bclk.

We are currently testing the R3E, initial results seems very promising.
ASUS are pushing it, the initial results with the board, backed up with briliant BIOS support, you got the bomb
ROG Connect is very usefull, debug / diagnostic / overview , along with voltage and clock controls, which changes very fast.

It appears to me that ppl are a bit confused regarding what is EATX in terms of dimensions. (incl. myself )
According to wiki:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATX
There it is stated that ATX is 12 in x 9.6 in ( 305 mm x 244 mm )
and that Extended ATX is 12 in x 13 in ( 305 mm x 330 mm )
Now, on Asus site they say the board is:
ATX Form Factor
12 in x 10.6 in ( 305 mm x 269 mm )
Can I join this thread now?

I used 1x 8 pin and 1 x 4 pin EATX power cables as thats what my PSU has, I dont have 2 x 8 pin :(
Great pictures bhavv
First time I've heard that. Me + Camera usually = epic fail.
I'll also confirm that you cant expose the NB on this board, as USZ showed.
The NB heatsink is a very very smooth and flat block that is connected to everything else, but it comes with two air coolers that you can install on top of it - the short passive one pre installed, and a bigger one to install if it will fit under your CPU cooler. You can also remove the fan off the larger block as well and just have a passive cooler 3x the size of the preinstalled one if you can fit it on, but the fan is silent.
For water cooling, you need a water block that fits on top of the smooth base.
Asus screwed up on the heat sink design. I guess mine is the worst case yet -- the IOH temperature was settling around 79 degrees C at idle. I discovered that the heat sink was making virtually no contact. The southbridge heatsink was only marginally better. I ended up filing down enough metal from the three support posts on the bootom of the IOH heat sink to ensure positive contact. Needless to say, I removed the sticky mess and replaced it with AS. Now I am running below 50 degrees at idle.

Royal Fail has messed up with my R3E delivery for today, apparently it headed off to Heathrow Airport to be shipped aboard... :shakes:
Should be coming tomorrow though... Getting a refund for the failed guarantee next day, can't really complain for 2 day free shipping I suppose.
