i would imagine it's the same as the stock top, you can, but it's not recommend to do that.
Really? I checked both Laing's and Swiftech's sites and didn't see anything about recommending against the output facing down.
However, I did see the stock EK top's diagram in the installation manual showing it wasn't OK to have the input facing down which is obvious, but again nothing about the output facing down as long as the input remained in one of the correct orientations.
On the dual top, even with the output facing down, the input is still facing straight ahead level, and that's what I was asking about, the output, not the input just to clarify. Based on that can you confirm it's still not recommended to orient the pumps this way? Thanks!
the output facing down is OK, just not the input, it would have to suck the water up and pumps arent good at that. besides that the impeller will be pulled down by gravity, increasing wear on the parts.
Are you sure about this? The way I see it, the pump does not have to suck because the water loop exists and the pump is usually at the bottom of the loop. Is there a chance that the electromagnetic field of the pump stator keeps the impeller always in the same position axially?

the water sucking part is mainly of importance when bleeding. after thats done and the res is properly sealed, the pump will just push into itself, but the main part is that while the magnetic field will keep the impeller up, it wont do so sufficiently i guess... all i know is that there are very specific mentions of not to mount your pump like that. there may be some other reason but i think these are the most likely ones. or maybe extra resistance burning it out or something but thats all i can think of.

Since this is about dual tops, it is somewhat similar.
In the near future I am planning to add second loop for GPU since I'd like to keep CPU loop dedicated. In the process, I am certainly going to need larger res
since I have the smallest one form EK which has capacity od 150ml for that. I saw this 5.25" dual bay reservoir from XSPC, this is the product - link.
Now, I'm wondering are these bay reservoirs better or worse compared to standalone reservoirs, and is this a good idea since pump is not going to be the lowest component in the loop?
Until I add second loop, only one chamber will be used, so, is it going to affect loop's performance compared to this setup with standalone reservoir? And how much liquid this
reservoir takes since XSPC does not mention this number?

Eddy, your picture of the DDC dual top V2 doesn't show an input port on the same side as the output. Will there be one on the same side as the output or will the only input be from the top of the block where the res is shown in your picture? Thx!
