Got my 4400+ about 30 minutes ago. check out the pics !
I thought to myself, I'll go ahead and test it with the IHS on just to make sure it works ! but 2 mins later the IHS was off ! lol
I'm impressed with the heatsink that AMD includes ! pretty nice 4 heatpipe copper base.
Results later tonight! :D
My 4400+ is on the Fedex truck! Ordered yesterday from the Egg and I'm in FL (shipped from NJ location) one day it's here in Hollywood, FL does not say "On fedex truck for delivery" so maybe will be here tomorrow. Need my 7800 GTX due to not having any PCIe cards for testing.
BTW did you see that price on Newegg went from $632 free ship up to $699 + $4 ship overnight! This 4400+ must be in high demand and to think the MSRP is $581 ouch ouch ouch, that might have been the breaking point for me if it was higher price closer to FX-55 San Diego.
Please keep totally up to date on your successes, you running a DFI LP NF4?
I bet you're doing the happy dance right now
Grats  Now lets hope it overclocks like a champ right? and if mine does too we'll have a :toast:
Ok one screen shot b4 having to get back to the office
Rig is in sig (server)
This is default settings, running 2 instances of PI 8m just for a temp base line.
I'll start OCing things later after work, I've got 2gig of Crucial Ballistix coming tomorrow to play with too :D
lol, yeah I took mine off before installing also. By the way, I think the new stock heatsink probably looks better than it performs, but for any of you guys taking the spreader off. be warned that if you plan on using any sort of large clip down sink, there is a high risk of chiping a corner of the die. betest to use a even screw down type of sink or block, unless you are freezing of course.Quote:

I am without a doubt much too nervous to remove the IHS and clamp down with a risk of any damage, not because of the $$$ involved just because it would be a gross waste of $$$ is all.Quote:

This is very strange, my office is in Davie, FL near both FT Lauderdale and Hollywood, as you can see below goes from FTL to HLWD then somehow gets back to FTL ramp? Strange they could have put in on a truck in FTL or HLWD and would have been to me already lol, I guess maybe someone is giving my 4400+ an extra long Fedex ride?

The 623-3 should be fine to start with though.
BTW, most peeps "in the know" use the -2 bios with all ram types it seems to be the most stable. I always used -3 for TCCD but after trying 510-2 have been using the -2 since.
There is a revised or fixed version of that BIOS that Oskar did without the vcore errors. I'm running -2 version of that, has given me my best overclocks and most stable memory access BY FAR to this point.... my $0.02
here is the link for the 704-2 modded ;)

Thanks Major, couldn't find that again meself
I don't recall seeing that -2 bios on DFI's site, do I need to go into archives or something? The 623-3 was the newest certified is the 70x-2 beta?
basically all the BIOS in use around here(with the exception of user modded BIOS) is created by Oskar, a DFI employee/engineer..... having said that, it IS beta, but if you don't like it, reflash.

Ok but what cooling are you using? You say removing the IHS, but what kind of speeds did you get without removing it? I am looking to do Air only and leaving IHS on the chip with XP-120 and 114 CFM 120mm fanQuote:

Ok been playing with it for about 15minutes, went straight to 2750mhz 11x250 with 1.5v and both cores are stable right off the bat so I'm arleady pretty happy since this was my goal for chip with the Crucial Ballistix ;)
2.8ghz would be nice for me !
@xxmartin what cooling are you using ??
I have a 4400+ and a MSI K8n NEO2 plat. Im having issues with the 1.97b bios and voltage options. I have been able to overclock so far to 2.695mhz using 245x11 which isnt bad but the problem is my voltage options are screwy. I cant get more than 1.52v no matter what combo CPU Vid and percentages over that. If I choose !.45-1.5 with no pecentages it actually undervolts. The most ive been able to do I believe is 1.425+10% but no other combos yiled higher voltages at all. Anyone else see this??
Major,
Wow, I really hope I don't have to be jealous of your 4400+ I would be more than happy with air at 2750, are you using air right now??
You got me real damn excited about tomorrow with these results! If I can get that clock it will be a first for me to have a CPU that I was lucky with as far as satisfied overclock and my goal was 2.6-2.8 which was what I expected with FX-55, FX-57 just a waste of $$$ since 2.6-2.8 is plenty enough to push a single and most times SLI 7800 GTX
I'm using an Exos2 with GPU300-V10 block.Quote:

I'm running 2 instances of Prime95 right now while I type ;) my load temps after an hour are 39c with 1.52v 2750mhz. My SD @ 2.9ghz and 1.72v never got above 36c if that tells ya anything.
Edit: ok I'm tired of this, time to start pushing it ! :D
Ok, like everyone else i have one core that is much weaker than the other. I had to take it all the way to 1.68v (1.7v in bios which as high as I'm willing to go with an 8 hour old chip on my water :D ) to get both cores stable at 2.8ghz.
Me like this X2 a bunch ! :woot:
I might see if I can squeak anoher couple of mhz out of this Vcore though b4 I call it quits for the night.
Lord.... I am not even sure I want to put so much voltage on phase for X2... thats about +.4v from stock major :) I've just bumped up to 1.6v and getting dual prime 2.7ghz... I think you have better chip than me or taking the heatspread off is helping you tons on heat problem... :)Quote:

Ok, some final results b4 heading off to sleep.
Apartently my X2 likes the 10x multi better than 11x
I know I didn't let prime run very long, but running out of time to test and wanted to see what PI would do.

Try Large FFTs. See how the memory controller likes being stressed.
@Major
I got exactly the same chip like you :) .

CCBWE 0524RPMW

Your right about the heat issue, I got an XP-120 with an 92 cfm fan. I can't stress (two times prime 24,13) with my case closed @ 1,3V. With case open I can stress 1.375V (highest Vcore I tried with stressing), the heat is 44 degrees in Smartgardian.
I have not much time to play at the moment, but gonna try MP10 tonight like you and more Vcore.
I have a similar stepping:
CCBWE 0524RPMW
F50226
Having some memory issues though so havent tried overclocking yet.
@nicholarse
I'm running on VX PC3200, no probs for me. Sorry to hear.
I'm trying to tun 2GB Ballistix tracer but one stick is failing memtest (other is fine) not sure if one is just a dud or if I need to tweak the BIOS settings - everything is at stock atm with timings at SPD as I'm just installing all my software etc. I need to flash my BIOS as well as I'm still on 510-2 from when I was running BH5. Not sure which -3 BIOS to change to though? 704-3 perhaps?
Nice very nice, so your ballistix are doing that 280s speed? or is that other ram you have in there for testing?Quote:

I too am running ballistix tracer 2x1GB modules, after tomorrow it will be in a DFI UT LP Ultra-D for now they are in my P4 3.2@3.4 EE Asus P4C800-E Dlx I managed to run 210FSB @ 2-2-2-5 w/PAT on rock stable for 2 weeks, due to the EE chip and its not so wonderful overclock that's all I've been able to raise it for FSB speed, memtest was perfect.Quote:

Major, very good results. :toast:
Those 0524 RPMW seem to be very similar. Mine is running 2800 MHz easily with 1.52V but upping 40-60 MHz will need a huge VCore bump because of the worse core.
My 24/7 setting at the moment is 2800 MHz (10x280). Don't really need those extra 50-100 MHz at the cost of 0.1-0.2V higher VCore. ;)
I think, without heatspreader it is safe to stay below 1.7V. My SanDiegos were running fine with 1.75V, so nothing to worry about.

With case open, prime stable for 10 minutes and than changed Vcore:
2306 @ 1.30V
2405 @ 1.35V
2450 @ 1.375V
With my winnie I could put 1.65V (not that it helps, was a bad chip) and all fans at low speed, case closed, the temp was middle 30.
If your not gonna use WC, you should have a good airflow in your case :) .

I'm not too far behind ya ! I'm testing right now at 2860mhz using 10x with my ballistix at 260mhz but my chip is taking 1.75v to do it ! hehe
Now I'm starting to get itchy idle fingers... so far I'm resisting the urge to water cool..
nice results ;)
my 4400+ does 2915 @ 1.600v, and runs even cooler after removing the heatspreader, and adding waterwetter lowered the temps even more, the cpu is idle @ 32C and load @ 48C after burn-in in sandra, the temp is even better in smartguardian, 29C-30C idle and 38C load hehe
Farmer 2450 was best overclock on your XP-120? I saw you mentioned 1.375 but did you try to push higher Vcore? Or have you not have enough time to experiment yet.
My 4400+ is sitting at the office and my 7800 should be arriving today so I'll be most likely busy tonight and tomorrow with testing. Will post my results, say a little CPU OC chant for me please my luck historically has never been the "average" overclock always lower.
2450 is my best so far, I really don't have much time. Next week I'm free and will try higher Vcore, yesterday I only try 1.40V but same max as 1.375V. I can internet @ 2,6Ghz with 1.40V, didn't try higher.Quote:

hehe maybe, I believe I can go down even more since it's fully benchable at only 1.55v and 2.92GHz aswell, so a bit of burning in should do it, we'll see ;)
What stepping did you have on your cpu?
EDIT: I belive smart guardian is a bit worthless since it gives me pretty low temperatures, ex. in bios the idle temp is 31C-32C and in smartguardian it
s 29C, how about you? tried sandras burn-in to se temps over there?
Greetings all,
I would be most appreciative if someone could give me some "gotchyas" to lookout for from start to finish with a clean XP Pro SP2 install. Here is a brief synopsis of what I have as of today:
1. X2 4400+ Retail boxed CCBWE 0524RPMW
2. DFI UT LP Ultra-D (which bios is best in your opinion)
3. 2x1GB Crucial Ballistix Tracer
4. XP Pro SP2 load with Raid 0 2xSATA Raptors 74GB what drivers should I need for the board? CPU etc? I want to make sure my clean load has all the drivers that are needed but nothing that will hinder performance.
Is everyone using the Marvell NIC due to high CPU OR was the high CPU only when that stupid firewall software was installed (I run my own external astaro firewall) I would like to run the primary Nvidia NIC if CPU usage isn't an issue.
Notes:
- I do want the best overclocks with CPU and the best timings and highest FSB, obviously I want it all duh.
- What HTT should I run I am guessing 250x4 for 1000 would be perfectly fine.
- XFX 7800 GTX will be installed
- XP-120 HSF with 120mm 114CFM fan
- Server style case that is much longer than tall (where HDDs are far from mainboard etc. with 2 exhaust 80mm & 3x92mm intakes
I apologize if any of these questions seem stupid  , I am a Senior Engineer in a 19 yr old company but we are unfortunately Intel Premier Providers and while I have always been an Intel guy (did you guess from the nick?) I can't ignore the obvious when it is in black and white staring me in the face AMD is #1 right now. If I were to ignore this FACT what kind of professional would I be?
This is my first of hopefully many AMD builds!
What do the third set of numbers mean?
IE:
CCBWE 0524RPMW
F50540 <----- This number I've seen posted
First AMD CPU just want to compare to other's for stepping and possible overclocking potential
Benchable and dual-primestable with version 24.13 is a huge difference. ;)Quote:

hm...jepp, it seems it's 2-4C+ than what it's saying, so a temp of 40-42C load isn't bad for me then at 1.6v :D

Well actually this board has been awesome for me untill the X2 cpu's. Its really only the voltage options IM dissapointed with really. I had a 55 that rocked, and I know this chip has some more room. As far as the DFI, Id have to also pick up a PCIex video card and I dont see any real performance gains from this over AGP yet. Id hate to have to get rid of my X800XT PE which still rocks.Quote:

Got single phase in but still need more work done. @ 1.52v I can only dual prime @ 2.83ghz -_-; CPU temp is @ 3c so I think more tweaking on charge, etc is in order (I did put more volt in temporarily to see how much more room I got only to find that temp do go up bit more than I thought -> actually reducing overclock).
Once I get matters resolved (different compressor to reduce noise and live tuning it with 1.7v or so to give it good temp under high voltage) I might have 3ghz dual prime rig... One thing is for sure, frigging thing is hot (My chipset temp gets to 52c, PWM around 60c at one point... gotta figure out ways to reduce this as it might be chipset temp that is preventing further overclocking..)
Gonna try out my 4400+ this weekend ... they finally arrived in Finland too.
*Edit* Picked it up... CCBWE 2505 UPMW. No testing untill tomorrow thou.
PTK
I think with that temp the best oc you get with Vcore between 1.5-1.6VQuote:

Thanks

For me: blow air down onto the HS.Quote:

2850 MHz (11*259) was with 1.450*110% (1.552V), memory @ 259 MHz and 2.7V + 0.03V, chipset 1.6V, ht voltage at 1.2V and LDT 3x.Quote:

I'm going to try it and see if it makes any difference.Quote:

Ready with your new sys? I'm waiting for your results, I wonna know how your setup will handle the heat.
It puts an entry in boot.ini that at least ocmark 05 looks for and maybe others. Doesn't hurt anything so might as well do it. (the exe version)Quote:

I've replaced the front intake with my panaflow 104 CFM 120mm, I was so impressed with the case I ordered 1 more and am going to use it instead of my server case.
I did also mount the X2 4400+ and got some AS5 on there with the massive XP-120, had to run a full backup last night of my box was 81GB so when I get home (5 hrs or so) I will be taking my main rig in the server case apart immediately, removing my OCZ 520 Powerstream and installing it into the Tsunami. I am hoping to get 5 more 120mm fans ordered today 2 for HSF for my rig and wife's rig and then 3 more to cover our intake and exhausts, only 41.5db so not too bad at all.
Unfortunately to my anger today Western Digital did not get my 74GB raptors to me for evaluation so I'm stuck with 36GB raptor, what I will most likely do is run a XP SP2 install tonight and fool around this weekend until Monday when they get here, so expect a lot of results this weekend. I am a noob to the DFI board so I don't even know how to tweak at all, most likely this will consume a lot of my time just learning all the ram settings etc. Plus coupled with being a noob AMD owner lol
I do believe I will have excellent cooling once all the fans are installed but we'll see how it does tonight with the ones I have available.
nicholarse,
How is that chip clocking right now? You said you are using the same air right? I will be finding out how good of a chip I received tonight.
10x260 on my x2 4200+ with a zalman 7000cu
With 2xPrime running, what Vcore and what are you're temps?Quote:

Hi guys Just got my X2 4400..Stepping CCBWE 0524RPMW .
It will sit in the DFI Sli DR board with a Swifty 6002, bonniville rad, and the mcp 600 pump..A 7800GTX and 74 Gig raptor with some GSkill 4400 ram..Just waitin on ram and Video card ...
So far it appears no one has the same stepping processor..Any one notice that ?
Any one notice the heat pipe heat sink weighs a fraction more then the Processor LMAO...First time I felt a chip so heavy..And a heat sink so close to it in weight...Personally I think it is a junk sink, but thats just my opinion...
Any way I will have it set up mid week provided the last bit of stuff arrives by then and will post results of speeds and benchies ect..Bye Bye Dual Xeon...Hello X2...
:woot: :woot: :woot: :woot:
X2 4400+ @ 10x270, 1.535v with a Koolance EXOS and H06 block. Each core is 12.5+ hours P95 stable.
Damn thing won't budge above 2.7 at all though, even with 1.7v
