Xtreme Twinmos Memory!

seems TwinMOS simply speed bin ALL chips at 2.5-3-3 (or whatever the rated timings are) and then label them accordingly... Eg, 44D, 50D, 60D, etc.
Some chips may be good for 4.4ns (227 MHz) but not for 2-2-2 timings... eg Hynix 43B or whatever...

the date code ending in "4" may be what TwinMOS do in house to label Winbond chips... makes tracking down common errors with a certain supplier easier if they know where the chips were made.

AADT vs AA4T definately relates to the last digit of the date code by the looks...

Sounds like we should cross our fingers the new stock they just got in is the "new" stuff.

yes I also think that if the date ends with 4 it's winbond ! I have 2 sticks of 256mb twinmos at the moment. one is AA4T other is AADT. the AA4T stick's date ends with 4 and the AADT stick's date ends with D. I can't look at my 512mb sticks because they have heatspreaders on them. but as soon as possible I'm gonna look at them ;)

afaik only twinmos/m.tec (not all) and twinmos speed premium (newer ones with lets say "winbond dots") have winbond utt. normal twinmos/twinmos is psc, former speed premium was selected psc...

well my 2nd 256 does only 261 mhz 2-2-2 so it's slightly slower than my 1st stick. SO 261 with 2x256 is my high right now. need to do some burning in. I think it's safe to say newegg has the good 512 sticks now. My vx is still faster and it's a whole gig. 2x512 @264 but they were $260 at the time.

I said that the 4 in the date code correlated with the 4 in the P/N which also correlated with good overclockers back on pages 10 & 12....

TwinMOS , like much bought on the internet, was never garunteed of anything (except working at the default spped settings)... We were just following a lead on the product...

If you are having trouble figuring out if you want to open the package or not look at the p/n code if it ends in AA4T, open it and overclock at 2-2-2. If it has a "D", "D"on't open it!!!! IT WILL NOT OVERCLOCK AS WELL AS THE AA4T.

If you want it even more general, look at the chips.. If there is no Letters on the 2 row , (the row that has 5 digits on it *the same number as how many fingers you should have on one hand*) then you have a good stick of memory. Be happy.

Speaking of OCZ...has anyone seen a post from them on this topic since all of this M.tec stuff got out? I sure haven't.

Back to TwinMOS...I am going to hold off on those Speed Premiums at newegg until either the picture changes or someone else orders. My fellow member at OC Forums is holding 2 of the OCZ value line PC2700 with the M.tec chips and BP PCB so I think I'll get those. He hit his cpu's limit of 255 (a 3.2 P4) before without being limited by the ram and one of the guys here got 275 on a A64 with the same 60D (PC2700) chips, both at 2-2-2-x, using 3.6-3.7v, so that is plenty good for me.

BTW Tictac's friend that got 267MHz 2-2-2, does not have AADT in the p/n, his date codes end with a 4.....

TicTac got the AADT p/n and was dissapointed in his overclock but wanted to show the successes of his friends using the AA4T (the ones with 4 at the end of the date code)



PS ... What are these chips doing on 3.2v... I only just got a DFi 250Gb and the max volts without tweaks is 3.2v...

I knew that someone else had already posted that about the date and the 4 vs D but couldn't remember who had done it. Good call on that.

Also, thanks for the clarification about tictac's friend. It just didn't seem right, after all the fact finding that we've done, for those sticks to do well and be AADTs. It would have put large holes in our theories. Glad you cleared that up.

Our theories are still valid so far.

Actually, that is not a bad idea...if the picture has just not been updated (they did that with the Buffalo Tech PC3700 and Winbond) but the ram has the new ones they will sell a ton of them. With the old pictures the only way we are going to know is if someone takes the plunge.

If we call and ask them to check the product codes and not say anything about dates or the pictures, we will get all the info we need. I will try that and report back.

Trans AM already got in contact with them. It is an old pic. I really doubt that they would be like that.

That buffalo bh-5 and that is the correct pic?

so the buffulo pc3700 on the egg isn't bh-5, bummer. 88$ woulnd't be bad at all for a 512mb dimm.

The pic is old, there is no BT with BH-5 at newegg unless you get lucky with a refurb.

Well, I called them and the person that I spoke with attempted to help me, but in the end their supervisor told them that because they have 7 warehouses across the country they could not help me. They did verify that they will NOT change the picture, even if it no longer reflects the correct part # because it is still the same item, as far as they are concerned. And no one got upset with me for asking. I just told them that I had one stick with the AA4T part # and was trying to match it with another.

As they say nothing ventured...nothing gained.

We are right back to where we were which is someone needing to order from newegg to see what they are shipping.

That or finding KVR with the right chips at the local BB or CC or whatever store is near your area.

I've got a guaranteed in 2 OCZ PC2700 being held for me with the M.tec chips, so I will not be ordering from the egg. Someone else will have to be the one.

Brand new shipment, just became available at 6:00 P.M. US Eastern time. I called them and they said that they would not update the picture as long as the product was the same thing (TwiNMOS Speed Premium PC3200).

One of the guys from OC Forums got OCZ's Value line PC2700 in 512 sticks with the M.tec chips like those pictured above (except his have the "-50" after the date like some of those that have been pictured already) and they did 255 with 2-2-2-6 at 3.6v on his 3.2 P4 rig. He feels like he maxed his cpu and not the ram.

Man...I just had a terrible thought...what if the 4x256 that I ordered earlier in the week come back as AADT because they are shipped from a different w/h than the others. I ordered those based on the picture and now there is no guarantee that (AA4T) is what I'm getting. Crap!

i guess ill be the gunie pig, from what it looks like the newer chips are the utt's. Hopefully ill get lucky.

I was kind thinking the same route there.

Shroomalistic. you have a very good chance of the newer date. since we cleared newegg's stock. 99.999999% chance THey should have latest from twinmos.
If it comes back as old, you can always contact twinmos directly and see if they will take them in exchange for new ones. This is the safest bet, and I doubt they would say no.

I just realized something...you and I would be receiving stock from the same NJ distribution center of newegg's so that improves my chances of getting the AA4T in my 4x256 Speed Premium order. Provided it was sent from there and not one of the others, of course. I hope to get mine tomorrow and test over the weekend.

Anybody had any luck with Kingston value ram. My fellow member at OC Forums says the sticks are flying out the door because of the rebate but I haven't even heard of anybody here or at OCF having bought any. He says their sticks have 66 legs so those that I have with 54 legs must be something else. I'm quite sure those are going back to CC.

all my sticks came from California warehouse. The person you need to call at twinmos is XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX are you planning on using all 4 256 sticks on one board? make sure your board can handle 4, most only handle 3.

I have several mobos to play with, none of these sticks are for 24/7 use. I'll play on A64 (MSI K8N Neo2 w/Winchester 3000) as well as P4 (Epox 4PDA2 Rev2 w/2.4/2.6/3.0). I also have a couple of NF7-S with mobile XPs that might play nice with these 256 sticks. I am trying to get my nerves up and my hand steady enough to try some volt mods on one of them. I've bought them cheap enough that it won't kill me if I fry one.

I don't usually (ok...ever) get stellar results, pretty much middle of the road, but I like to play around with it when the wife and kids have gone to bed.

well not exactly, he didnt want it as he bought an NF7-S2 (read:crap) and he got stuck with it, so i took a torch to it and removed all the caps/chokes, then i soldered/desoldered a resisor to about five different places on the mobo, then i practiced removing SMD's, and soldering to the empty solder pads... i tried to remove some mosfets but i couldnt figue out how to get the long edge up...

im going to cut a few traces next chance i get and practice soldering in those...

my biggest problem was getting the resistors to stick the the SMD's, ive done a few vmods on videocards before this, but this was some pretty tight space for a soldering iron, im still far from where i need to be for that kind of mod...

The thing is with the 512mb sticks at newegg, all the pics show AADT not 4T.

I've pulled it out and put it back so many times in the last couple of hours that I think I've just about worn it out. :)

I am waiting to see what I get when I receive my 4x256 (I've already gambled somewhat) before I decide how much more I want to get into this.

I have a "sure thing" in the OCZ PC2700 that one of the members at OCF is holding for me so I will probably go that route. He has tested one of them and it maxed his cpu at 255 with 3.6v and they use the Brainpower PCB so I have very little to gain by gambling on the TwinMOS. One of the guys reported having hit 270 on an A64 with the PC2700 rated M.tec chips. Anything between 255-270 at 2-2-2-x is better than what I currently have.

The first link is less of a gamble if you agree with the theory that since newegg sold out of those and we've been told that the newer Speed Premiums will have the Winbond UTT, it would make sense that the new stock would be the ones with the AA4T product codes (which denotes the Winbond chips).

The second link is more of a gamble because it is still old stock and it shows the AADT code Plus I'm not even sure that anyone has bought these.

At 3.3v is erroring at 217mhz 2,2,2,x and will reboot randomly at 220mhz .
( Neo2 with 1.41mod)

still the badwidth is slightly higher then the TCCD at 200 2,2,2,5 .

Might try in my P4m IS7e later today.

Seems the -44 is the stuff to find.

maybe you need to bump up the voltage, if you didn't get the right chips i don't think they had any chance of going 2-2-2 at any timings really.

The sticks are utter garbage,

AADT model numbers

but they have a mixture of 03 model Twinmos branded 50D winbond chips and another non-descript unknown chip, also branded by twinmos as 50D

what gets me is the winbond blanks have date codes of 03104

The unknowns have 0343D, so the chips have obviously all come from a "grab bin"

It must be warned that Komplett cannot be regarded as a reliable source. I guess we must simply wait until speed premium comes to the UK.

I'm not even testing these chips, they are going straight into the business computer (which allows me to sell my 2x512 of 3700EB which has been standing in on my business computer until I got some cheap ram ;)).

The proceeds from the EB will allow me to buy some speed premium when it becomes available.

Same here GazC, Mine showed up from Komplett this morning, AADT model number and the IC's were a mix of 0343D & 0348D.

What about the winbond modules, komplett sell, surely theymust be UTT???

My question is. Can you order from Newegg, and if the picture doesn't match the product.... can you return it without a rest:banana::banana::banana::banana:ing fee? If so, I'll take my chances with the AA4T pictures... and if they send me anything else I'll ask for a refund.

Don't confuse this with the -TT at the end of the Model Number

2. Date (second line on mem chips) after 0444
3. 4 following the date (related to number 1)
4. chip serial code (3rd line on mem chips) starts with TMD
