Correction to the statement about the locks on the Aopen card.
Posted this earlier about the pci lock: 33 do not work, the two others do.
Agp lock seems to be the same story. 66 do not work, the two others do.
3:4 2-2-2-5 will yield better results than 3:5 2,5-3-3-6.
Do not ever use the aopen software, see below. System is idling, the red arrow marks where the program was terminated.

I think (and this is just my thougths..maye be right and maye be wrong)...that somewhere around 160mhz is OK to aim for...at this fsb you´ll be able to settle down at 75/37 agp lock and both ATI and Nvidia cards will be able to run without any problems...also in the case of no working pci lock, most SATA and pci addoncards will do fine.
Only downside with 160fsb is that with 3:5 divider you need som very good ram to run at 2-5-2-2 and with 3:4 you´ll lack some memorybandwidht.
Dothan responds very well to low latencies and high mem.freq....you´ll see some gain in performance quickly when raising fsb and memory.
So I guess some good ol´e BH-5 or 6, OCZ VX or some other ram with Winbond UTT chips will do fine on this board...if you are doing vdimm modd ,that is.

On the plus side without even doing the vcore wire mod my 1.3GHz *banias* goes up to 1.8GHz stable (150 x 12, FSB : RAM = 1:1)... Will try the wire mod later (and my other CPUs - picked up 4 of them cheap :D)

i have a centrino notebook with the 855PM chipset and i just found out the DFI clockgen for the 855GM on www.cpuid.com works for me.
but my question is. if I have ddr400 that's only running at 166MHz (3:5, 100mhz fsb) then should i be able to get a)pretty high overclocks, heat allowing and b)pretty tight timings on my ram?
i tried the 855 tweaker just now and windows blue-screened when i tried to apply new timings. does that mean my ram can't take the tight timings or that the tweaker doesn't work for me? I used Bitpower's link. Online Crash Analysis said something about a driver device.
and yeah, where do you get the SSE2 patch? I just got 47sec SuperPi 1m and that feels somewhat lowly given what this chip is capable of.

whoa. when i take the fsb up to 115mhz it runs fine until i open any kind of app like superpi or a game and then it lags like a crackwhore. what's happening?

Sound goes *poff* as soon as you start upping the fsb. That is because it can't handle over stock pci speed. Since 66/33 lock don't work, onboard sound cant be used if you want to OC. Buy a cheap SB Live or something to get sound ;)

Thinking of doing exactly that... Have *any* of the AGP / PCI lock settings been confirmed to work on the AOpen? Is it at least setting dividers correctly? (i.e. could we pin mod the CPUs to a 133MHz FSB and that way at least force it to use a /2 divider for AGP and a /4 for PCI... Ought to give some more headroom if we can - especially for people with ATI cards like me!)Quote:

Thanks for that - setting it to 75/37 has made it prime AND 2k3 stable @ 12 x 150 - still can't get much more than that though. Have also shortened the retention frame for my copper heatsink (Akasa AK-370) so now running passive and still getting good temps even when overclocked (and all the case fans are running at reduced speeds)... With the case fan nearest the CPU on full it only reaches around 45 celcius at full load... You've gotta love these CPUs! Also - I was load testing with the case open and noticed that the NB heatsink is fairly warm @ 150MHz FSB whereas @ 100MHz it's cool so maybe some active NB cooling would help? Hint to malfunction... put the AGP/PCI to 88/44 when over ~150. Then you also have to get soundcard which can manage 44PCI clock. I was also about 150ish before i put the lock on.. now over 170fsb is easy. Only problem is that i don´t have sound yet because of the high PCI clock. Maybe have to buy on external USB -soundcard. :|
what board are you using? dfi or aopen? the cooler makes me think aopen with its retention module...

Mobo Aopen, memory Kingston KHX3000/512MB BH5@2-2-2-5 wit DDR-Booster sittin´on the other slot. Modded the Zalmans retention system a little. Put some 1mm plastic plate under the retention latch. Showed the knife to some cellulite lotion tube of my babe, fortunately shes used to my ways wit the computer :p: :banana:
Got the sound workin allright also! Old SB live woke up only when i put the "Spread Sprectum" option ON in the bios. Now at 0,7% down settin´ ...when it was on OFF or 0,5% center settin´the computer would hang soon after the post before windows loading. But now everything is workin´just swell.
Also before my PATA Hitachi 7k250 HD would only get about 73MB/s in HD-Tach wit 88/44 lock-setting but now after applyin´ the spread srectum the burst is at normal level 95MB/s :p:
It has been some exiting couple of days learning the secrets of the board. First i was thinkin if this was a wise decicion at all to buy the setup. There are after all many gimmics because of the not so good AGP/PCI -locks. Now i can say that this combo is worth every cent... i´m afraid to think what this setup will do under my Zalman waterblock ..i still have 17X multi in the warehouse ..over 2800 with water should be a walk in the park.
There will still be many enjoyable days tuning this rig up... maybe a Vdimm mod so i can put 1GB of mem in. At this moment the saying "Indecent speed" comes somehow in to my mind... :slobber:
hm got an interesting offer today. dothan 715 (1.5ghz, 2mb) with 478 pins? wtf. it's said to run in socket 479 boards, but also in the p4m based boards. also being an intel-noob, where's the difference in socket-layout with the p4 regarding this chip? i know it's a whole different stoy with 479 pin dothans, but what is this? a crossbreed? or just a regular 479 dothan minus a pin? also it isn't the normalsocket 478 pin layout... so what gives? and what p4m boards are there - any decent chipsets, dual channel anybody?

Yesterday installed first game (HL2) to this rig. The overal smoothines is something else... i mean A64 3200+ Winnie S939@2500MHz didn´t even come close to the experience. Resolution 1600X1200 AA4X, AF8X, wit high details my X800 Pro VIVO@XT PE spitted out grafics at the level that the maps felt like they were on quick silver :D
New bios for Aopen 1.07 ..flashed it straight away and it seems to work ok.
Did the Vdimm mod so now i could free the other mem slot which was formerly occupied by DDR Booster. Now running 2 X 512MB OCZ3700EB CL2,5-2-2-5 on the board. Divider 3:4, FSB 179MHz MEM 239MHz, Multi X16 = 2690MHz. 512MB for HL2 wasn´t clearly enough but now this thing flies. Tomorrow will try some KHX BH5 to get CL2 and more performance :cool:
will those be khx3200/512, those doublesided thingies? if so,make them fly. mine never really took off with my abit nf2 boards (nf7s & an7). also what's the max vdimm you've been feeding your aopen (via vdimm / booster)?

New bios seemed to reorganize the hardware resources somehow... all the chipset drivers were reinstalled when windows came up.. had to restart 2 times because of the drivers.
Wit Vdimm mod 3.3V is normally the max... maybe if the Powersuplys +3.3V line is adjustable you can get more?
With OCZ -booster i feeded KHX and OCZ EB 3.5V according to the Booster leds... didn´t bother to check wit the meter if those volts vere correct. Have been reading some info that in some cases Booster has been showing more voltage than actually has been suplied to the memories.
BH5 (2-2-2-5) I have are: 1x KHX3000/512 (ds)which does 240MHz with 3.2-3.3Vdimm and 3x KHX3200/256 (ss)which all do 250MHz with 3.3Vdimm

Would be a better idea to find a more reliable solder point that had larger traces and would allow the voltage to be filtered somewhat before getting to the ram (ie: the output leg of the vdimm mosfet).

I can pick up a used Pentium4 1.6ghz M 1mb cache model stepping code is SL6FA tested working with 30day warranty for £30.
Do you think this a chip of this type would clock to over 2000mhz on the Aopen mobo. At present I have a winchester 3000 skt939 cpu that clocks upto 2300mhz, do you think I would see a speed improvement or would I be better of sticking with the Winnie?
Need some views and opinions before I shell out the wonga on this cpu and finance the skt479 board next month after payday!!

I think its safe to expect that bioscoders have tried to improve the new version somehow... so propably good. Everythin seems to work as before... also my External USB2.0 HD doesn´t still get regognized yet... when on 1.1 setting it works but dam slow :mad: ...maybe have to open a case to Aopens helpdesk.Quote:

also be careful. pentium 4 m != pentium m... different thingy! so if it really is a pentium m, it's a banias, not something we're talking about. might try it anyway, but i would expect it to deliver less due to (amongst other things) half the l2cache...
I'm using a 1.3GHz Banias. Without the wire mod to increase vcore it clocks up to 1.8GHz (12 x150) quite happily. It will POST higher but is unstable so I reckon it will top out aroud 2-2.1GHz with higher vcore.Quote:

yea, really impressive, especially the fsb that 133fsb dothan could reach 190!! now imagine that at 3:4... banging 253 mhz (ddr 506). but anyway.. you need to get the fsb pretty high to have any decent overall speed. with an 15x multi you need to get it to 180 to run 2.7g.. hmmm ... too expensive for now... also wait what the 915gm will bring :D
hey guys, i've been reading this thread and gradually becoming more and more impressed.
my current rig is in spec, but im really intrigued by these dothans, would say a 1.7 dothan and dfi/aopen board be worthy for a 24/7 rig? Mildy overclocked say to 2.1ghz?

Hi, I received my DFI855 + PM755 a few days ago, I vmodded the mobo (vddr/vagp) and did the pin mod to have 1.6V to feed the cpu. I use X86's D06 bios, but I think there's an issue with the PCI lock. When I set it to 33/66Mhz, It lilmits my O/C, and if I set it to fsb/4, the issue disappears, have you ever saw that ?
now it's stable at 2.86Ghz, max screen at 2911Mhz (under single stage phase chage unit ;))
the agp isn't locked on the dfi.
Why mildly? ...1.7 Dottie very probably does easy ~2,5GHz wit default Vcore and this doesn´t even raise the temps at all. Why not realize the overhead to the limit... free power no extra cost. :stick:Quote:

Yep, they showed it off recently. By the way, the current model is now $239 at Newegg (about $30 less than it was).
for those who don't currently have a dothan board, it's worth waiting, but this new rev is not a revolution, it just makes overclocking easier :)
so is that dfi board out yet? sure sounds like it. also did anyone try it yet and can report on the locks working or not working? else the aopen is still king (in that respect) for now

same here, The P-m seem to be the way to go now. People here seem to knwo their stuff. I was woundering what's everyone's .02 of th enew P-m w/533fsb. The multi will be lower, so if it is still board limited, then the new ones seem the way not to go. I've been reading about the new Aopen board, and i thought i read somewhere when it said 4oomhz FSB, and compatible with the 400/533 p-m. Maybe it was a bad translations, but will the new CPU's run at 400mhz? So the new boards will work with the older cpu's (the 400fsb version with DDR2 Duel channel and PCIe)?
the new cpus like 760, etc. will be running 133 quadpumped (=533) where the old (or better current ones) do 100 quadpumped (=400). the boards to come based upon the 915gm & pm chipsets will be capable of running the 400 and 533 mhz types. it wouldn't make much sense otherwise, locking out not that old stuff... they are designed to handle 533 and dc ddr2 plus pci-e

Ordered the DFI board, a Dothan 1.8, a gig of ch-5 kingston hyperX (ram was only A$250 so might as well). I'll take the 6800GT from my a64 rig cause that thing doesnt mind high agp speeds. All should arrive monday.

btw - can anyone tell me the diagonal distance between the mounting holes on the DFI board? Wondering if my chipset waterblock will fit.
