It's not technically a delay if they are shipping the drives but selling out before everyone gets one. That's more of a lack of supply wouldn't you think?
Brace yourselves for TRIMday.... ooops I meant Tuesday...
2 X25-M G2 running raid 0 aligned 128k stripe on LSI 9260-8i
http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...08200904-4.png
Not quite sure about the low 4K and 4K 64 scores here but sequential looks fine and access times (for an LSI card) are pretty good...
Hopefully a firmware update will speed up the 4k side of things but I don't mind atm as the G2's are not OS they are a gamedrive :)
That's interesting- here's 3 x25-M G1 RAID 0 on ICH10R. Very different results, my drives seem much weaker in areas, but much stronger in others. Or it could all be just the controller, or many other hundreds of factors... guess we'll never know.

Against Single G2.
http://recore.info/images/intelg2.jpg
Those things are incredibly fast in Raid0, although Access reading times seem high
Yep.
Access time is high because i'm using a dedicated raid card, which will always introduce extra latency vs. onboard....
Not sure what is going on with the 4K though :D
Probably raid card firmwre...
The expectations are astronomical and somehow I think a lot of people are going to be disappointed. The only thing that is interesting me is the possibility of Intel adding a fw tweak at the same time to increase speed. There have been consistent rumours that intel limited the speed of the M version, so it will be interesting to see if TRIM and competitor improvements mean they take the brake off.
I don't suppose you can run an iometer run using the test file found here.
http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/fo...32&postcount=1
but set the 'number of outstanding I/Os' to 64.
They are back in stock right now at the Egg, hurry guys:
Intel X25-M Mainstream SSDSA2MH080G2C1 2.5" 80GB
1 per customer @ 250 a piece. Still a good deal, but what a pain if you want more than 1.
Out of stock at newegg, but mwave has some.
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch...iteria=BA32332
talk about price gouging. I'll wait.
For comparison I RAN the same array on ICH10R (yayy! If you set up the paramaters exactly right then arrays are transferrable between ICH10R and LSI :D)
First up ICH10R:
http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...08200903-1.png
Next my run with the same array on the LSI 9260-8i:
http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...08200904-4.png
Looking at the results you can see that sequential writes suffer using onboard but seq reads are still very good and both random reads and writes are much improved...
As for access times, well, you can see the SAS overheads at play right there :)
Both arrays were running on my sigged system with 128k stripe and 64k offset.
Thoughts: Could one of you nice manufacturers get out a PCI-e 2.0 8x SATA only RAID card asap please :D
Still didn't get it and the price keep going, not happy!!!
$280 @ the egg and 10% Bing cashback is gone, I'll pass.
now thats some BS
been waiting for over a month to buy one and they raise the price from 219 to 280 and I was going to buy one for work its now $500
Prices goes up and still can't buy it screw this noise just get a corsair now Who knows when the 22% price increase will come back down :(
Don't feel bad man, just gotto realize that the price on newegg reflect how many they have left in stock. Due to such high demand for this SSD, I wouldn't be surprise but still very disappointed since I've been waiting just for this to complete my new build. You might consider talking to newegg rep since I did and they give me $25 off if I order it.
They gave me the discount since they said I'm a value customer which is obvious since I bought a bunch of stuff from them. And don't bother to ask them about the availability of any item since they will just tell you to look at the ETA. This SSD sells like hot cake and sold out really fast, I was only 2 clicks away to submit my order and it's gone.
off topic which SSD's support TRIM ?? in 64 and 128 sizes?
Well, so did u ask them to give you the discount or they just offer it to u, I been spending on newegg for like over 4k value of stuff, I think I should be able to get some discount for these price growning drives.
Was gonna ask the same thing, what else support TRIM and works well like these X-25, corsair or vertex?
AFAIK the only drives to current support TRIM is Vertex.
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/skusearch...iteria=BA32330
in stock for 249, hurry
Hmmm do I need to spend an xtra 20 dollars right now just to have it?
Newegg has it in stock... But they are taking price gouging to an all time high.
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/8...ure5tzl.th.png
This is just F'ed up.
i'm in for 2 (160s)
HOLY :banana::banana::banana:! http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...82E16820167016 That is ridiculous, $522 CAD for one, it was 279 yesterday and that was high. Isn't this illegal on some level? I hope no one is buying these at this price.... Anyone know when NCIX will be replenishing their stocks? I have one on preorder for 279.
EDIT: That's $3 more than the gen1 160gb!
hopefilly its just a pricing error, but... agreed, HOLY :banana::banana::banana:
Doubt its an error, the 160gb is priced over $1k. They really are milking this low supply situation aren't they?
Some crazy prices fo sho....
Get mine from mwave for 500 for 2 of the 80G include shipping, in this case, I think you guys should just backorder on mwave
Plenty of 80GB UK stock still at Scan and NO gouge yet (at least compared to the price they originally offered it at)...
LOL newegg must be hurting or something I keep getting freaking Sale Sale ads from them everyday saying BIG SALE. I go to it and it is all crap stuff and they know it but yet they still try.. I was talking with a rep at Microcenter and he said the new G2 will be soon around $220.00..
now thats REALLY SOME BULLLLLLLLL SHIIIIIITTTT !!!!!!!
what upsets me most is I have bought TONS of stuff at reasonable prices and this is utter price gouging.
the G1s they even raised to over 300.00 and the 160g to 997.00 LMAO
I sure hope everyone boycots Newegg for the next 30 days
Glad I picked up a G1 last week at 190.00 after some cashback stuff. Newlow for Newegg. They can charge what they want, nothing illegal about it, but to not offer a better price for their customer's is very telling of what their priorities are.
Meh and NewEgg removed them once again... So their either about to put them back up for sale at a different price or their pulling random ****
Oh and note the advanced search price ranges.... They don't list an exact price but even the 80gb falls in the $400-$500 range.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...5-m+g2&x=0&y=0
Oh and WTF is up with this price?!
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820167005
SSDSA2MH080G1 $359.00... That's COMPLETE BS
I really want a single 80GB G2 to put in my new 13" MBP but I got tired of waiting so I picked up a 60GB Vertex Turbo. Should do the job just fine until the G2's are readily in stock and I can buy one along with a second 60GB Vertex Turbo and RAID the VT's in my Mac Pro.
Certainly will be looking places besides Newegg though. I *hate* price gouging.
I did do some testing with my two new 80GB Intel SSDīs.
http://kotisivu.dnainternet.net/bull...G2GC_write.jpg
Single drive connected to Intel ICH10R
http://kotisivu.dnainternet.net/bull...G2GC_write.jpg
Then two drives on RAID 0 and with stripe size set on default 128KB.
http://kotisivu.dnainternet.net/bull...G2GC_write.jpg
Best performing stripe setting seems to be 32KB one.
Than read tests:
http://kotisivu.dnainternet.net/bull...A2M080G2GC.jpg
Again single Intel 80GB 34nm SSD.
http://kotisivu.dnainternet.net/bull...SSDSA2M080G2GC
RAID 0 with stripe set to default 128KB.
http://kotisivu.dnainternet.net/bull...SSDSA2M080G2GC
RAID 0 with stripe set to 32KB.
So my conclusion is that testing those different stripe sizes did pay off fine :)
32KB Stripe size is winner in every aspect, at least when using ICH10R.
Rest of my test results are here.(CrystalDishBench, HD Tach and PCMark05 HDD Suite.
Nice benchmarks! Really tempting now, since my laptop's harddrive only averages 52 MB/s, and of course seek time is a slow 14.6 ms.
BulldogPO - you are testing with flawed benchmarks and with the cache off. They can not test RAID setups properly.
I just got my 2 160 drives in .
@ BulldogPO : Thanks for the tip on 32k stripesize , because i wanted to go 128k at first .
Got my two 80G, haven't install them
I've got 5 160Gb drives in stock (and I'm not gouging ;) )
Had some 80's, sold out quick, but I'm working in getting more ASAP!
The stripe size is absolutely meaningless the way you're "benching" it. WAY, WAY, WAY more things to consider than an HDTach screen.
350$ at newegg for the 80gb btw
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820167016
Lol @ the people who buy them for this price. That is disgusting.
Brahmzy: Thatīs funny as all other programs that I used tell similar results (CrystalDiskBench, HD Tune and PCMark05).
Hello guys,
Ive got a question about TRIM. I just managed to purchase a x25m 160gb gen2 drive, while im waiting for it i read around that there will be some firmware update from intel to actually enable TRIM?
Is there a way to use TRIM already , im planning to install a fresh w7 64bit on that drive, on Anandtech they say to use trim you must use the microsoft default driver instead of intel matrix/chipset. Is that the case or i must wait for intel to release their firmware update.
Thanks !
Anyone noticed huge performance drops when the disk is full? My system became real laggy. I had to delete a few ISO's, to make it stable again.
I heard you have to keep empty disk space when using an SSD, but is it really that important?
Got two drives for $290 a piece! One for me and one for my friend. Stores here in Swedonia are getting them in stock finally.
paid $440USD shipped for a 160GB...
OMG Where??!!?!?! I am dying here in Canada. I need one for my new build. I was considering the 120GB vertex because they have a pretty sweet sale on one. $330 CAD after MIR.
NCIX also has a good sale on the Agility, 120GB for $300 after MIR.
Decisions decisions...
Although not sluggish, basically the same thing happened to me when my X25-M 80GB G1 was over 80% full. After I deleted some stuff the speed came back. You can read about it below:
http://anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=3631&p=4
Got a few PMs people asking me where I got it. You gotta have a friend who owns a small retail hardware business. Intel helps out the small business guys A LOT so if an owner asks his Intel sales rep very nicely for a product, they will usually sell it to him even if there is no stock all around. They have extra stock reserved for this sort of thing that doesn't go to major retailers like newegg.
That is how I got mine. A have several friends who own retail outlets and one of them got it for me. I always get my hardware way cheaper than the normal prices too ;). I will have it in a few hours. Next day shipping FTW.
Connections are everything.
here is what they sent me on the september 1st I lost a lot of respect for newegg and will now do business elsewhere as much as possiable, I just spent 1200.00 with them too in the last month :shakes:
Auto-Notify List:

Yeah something is seriously wrong. We get stock in the UK before the USA and it's cheaper. Guess there is a first for everything.
Edit: I believe new egg etc optimise price based on supply and demand with all kinds of clever software running in the background. Looks like they have taken it way to far though. That kind of greed leaves a bad taste.
$379.99 @ Egg.ca for the 80GB version, still pretty pathetic, really.
my values seem low compared to others . please give me some pointers to improve them .
The setup is a fresh install of windows 7 , stripesize 64k , clustersize default , 2x intel 160gb G2 in raid 0 .
I tried windows raid driver and intel raid driver , same results .
this is on a ICH10R chipset .
http://www.skybed.be/temp/HDTune_Ben...d_0_Volume.png
80GB In stock @ Amazon right now 1:50pm MST for $229 free shipping.
Your ssd seams to be degraded, I had the same problem with a brand new supertalent too. Use hdderase 3.3 to wipe out your disk and you should get better results.
Here's my HDTune (ICH10) with 3 cheap Super Talent out of eBay for $60 each:
http://i31.tinypic.com/35crkv8.jpg
BTW, my benches were done on P55 PCH, not ICH10R (although they are the same, almost)
I payed 192EUR per piece of my drives.
Out of stock already. Got another haha. I've been able to snatch a few up here and there as they come available...
I hate this. I don't have a computer right now besides my laptop and I've been waiting for 2 weeks to get this drive. This is rediculous.
Ran a few tests of my two X25Es in R0 versus this 160 single drive. COD4 launches instantly on my es and seems to hang 0.5s-1s before launching on the M. Once in game, there is no difference. L4D is the same idea. Getting into the game the first time seems a bit quicker on the Es. If I wanted to start a server however, the load time is once again identical. Also tried heroes of newerth beta and there was no different in anything between the two setups.
The 40app launch test finishes in 9.5sec on the Es and 10.6sec on the M.
So basically, the M is 95% as fast as a 2 x25-e raid 0 array. And that is with a 4.5ghz cpu.
Wouldn't the fact that they are raid'ed cause that 5% increase?
I gave up with the G2, been waiting for week and I don't feel like waiting no more, just grab an OCZ Agility 120GB for cheap and I'm good.
Done some testing now with 64k and 128 stripesize , with default win7 install and ICH10R . RAID0 with 2 160gb intel SSD G2 .
this is 128k http://www.skybed.be/temp/SSD/128k%2...-ssd-bench.png
64k was a bit faster in certain tests , but in others it was slower .
all screenshots here , for the ones who are interested (hdtune , crystaldiskmark,win7 performance test) :
http://www.skybed.be/temp/SSD/
This may be a really stupid suggestion, but are you sure you're definitely using SATA II class cables? The SATA I cables don't go much faster than 150MB/s, which would add up to the 300MB/s you're seeing in RAID.
With the number of motherboards I've been through I have a real dolly mixture of SATA cables.
Sorry if this is nonsense.
Edit: I think this IS nonsense :-). I was sure I'd read something about lower transfer speeds in SATA I cables on wiki but now I can't find it. Sorry, must be having a stroke. Does anyone else smell toast?
