More anomalies: OCCT reports 1.46v while idle (BIOS setting 1.45 LLC enabled) and 1.47v (!!!) load.
Also the max load temp reported by OCCT is 4C higher than RealTemp or CoreTemp. I am running BIOS 904, no one else has this problem? Is this normal for this board? And what vcore to trust?

Yes, but the CPU is well cooled, max 70C on load with 32C ambient (this summer), and it's a C0 stepping, it needs more vcore than a D0.
Anyway, after doing some more testing, I suppose I should trust the BIOS most. I was just surprised since the behaviour of LLC is very different from the P6T Deluxe. With the P6T and LLC activated the max vcore on load is the value you set in the BIOS. With the RII Gene the min vcore on load seems to be what you set in the BIOS.
Other than that it's a terrific board, maybe the best X58 board I've tried yet, just change the NB heatsink :).
I need help guys. I just got Gene and i am using it with 920 , but even on stock clock NB/SB temp is like 88'C is that normal? i am afraid to do anything with this mobo. my CPU cooling is H50, but whats worries me is the temp of the NB/SB...
Buy an extra fan mate and put it over the NB, then it will be fine (60°C or such is my tempwhen priming with an Antec spotcool ) We all have been experiencing this, the IOH heatsink is underdimensioned, plus when you use the H50 unit you will cut airflow in ya case. So give it some extra air and all will be fine
I figure that out, i put one fan blowing on top of it temps went down with 35-40'C.... I was just wondering how is that possible. And why Asus doesn't fixed somehow...
You need to change the NB heatsink. Asus's is very poor and pretty much useless.

Noctua has/had one too (NC-U6), I can't find it on their site.
I think Thermalright HR-05 is too big.
They work well passively and will improve the NB temp a lot.
If you use an air cooler you will still have some airflow over the IOH heatsink, also the case's air flow will be optimal. The heatsink is designed to be used for that purpose. I've had this board at 4ghz daily with a TRUE 120 in an Antec P160 case. No issue with the stock heatsink at 75°C. But when you start using watercooling and co and especially the H50 unit you are cutting airflow, even dumping hot air inside the case... then you are required to give it some aid. same for it's bigger brother
Well i guess ill just stick with a fan blowing air on top of it... I admit , i was a little scare at the beginning...
Do what I did, put a Noctua U6 chipset heat-sink on the NB area. Take off (unscrew) Asus's finned modular piece, then buy two M3 x 10mm screws, some compound (I used Noctua NT-H1) and install the U6. My temperature under load never goes above 49 C, and that's passively cooled as well.Quote:

Depends on what's the cooler that you're using. But i7 920 starts to throttle at 100°C (been there, seen that at 4GHz with AXP-140).
But it shouldn't throttle at 65°C unless there are heat spikes that mess readings. But i doubt it.
Any advice for OC for gene and C0 920 my target as i said i am using Corsair H50 and my target is 3.4-3.6GHz but never overclocked i7 before...

I think so for the price.. All the stuff you get like X-Fi sound built in, LCD Poster. I find this board to be my favorite out all boards I tried.. It is worth it compared to the other micro x58 boards out there.Quote:

This board is making for HTPC, it's so small to compare to big brother 2 extreme, and also cheaper alot.
It's using a software version of X-Fi. The audio chip is indeed from Analog Devices AD2000B, but the software on top of it is from Creative Labs, providing EAX 4.0, Crystalizer and CMSS-3D functionality. All these features are run on CPU and not X-Fi chip. We can directly compare this to X-F Xtreme Audio soundcard. It's the same thing really. It's not great but in general far better than most of integrated soundcards. You can also use default BlackHawk panel that has few nice effects to boost sound clarity or bass in a similar way as Crystalizer.Quote:

I guess the last BIOS update 1033 was really messed up, thank god i haven't forced it in any way. Tried latest 1104 BISO and it flashed it without any problems.
Works fine and i also noticed few small but nice changes in BIOS. Slightly better designed menus and stuff.
Will this board run a Intel Xeon W3520? Also have a new board replacement cross shipping to me as we speak from problem above.

That's difficult problem to analyze. At first thought it could be the PSU over-loading, but on the other hand it could have been the motherboard drawing too much power? I'm unsure. Good luck with the new board though, I've never saw that type of problem before.Quote:

In terms of performance with some airflow you can expect about 10C-13C better temperature. In my case from 62C :eek: to 49C as reported by the LCD poster.

Well update for me I got a Advanced RMA through Asus and got a new board. And my RMAed Corsair came back with a NEW in box HX1000 psu. LOL I sent in the PSU only and got back this. WOW... I plan on trying new 1104 bios because I keep getting errors and missing OS not reading my Intel SSD G2 drive. 1033 seems like a flaky BIOS 0904 was rock solid for me, the only reason why I tried it was I using my Kingston Hypers X but found out I had bad memory.. So I will try 1104, if bad I will go back to 0904..

Yes it does both versions fit, just depends on how big your CPU cooler is and the possitioning as well as the card in 2nd PCIE slot. both SLI versions fit great under 2nd PCIE card as well as under the big ThermalRight Ultra 120's but is limited to fan sized used and if using PCIE 1 slot with the SLI version. standard versions fir if rotating large cooler (Ultra 120) with fans in-line. I myself use the HR-05 SLI/IFX on the SB and a Nexus (like regular HR-05) on NB but turned Ultra 120 90 degrees right.

Anyone here gone past ~220bclck with a R2G? Mine can post at 21*220, but it doesn't even get to desktop before a BSOD occurs. Booting into Windows at a lower bclck is no help either, as TurboV can't change it past exactly 217.8.
Higher voltages/lower multipliers are no help either.

Any of you experiencing issues with S3 failure at certain bclk and DRAM settings closer DDR1600 and bclk of 200? S4 will work sometimes. It enters S3 sleep but will either "lock" at resume or if it does make it to Windows the keyboard wil not be active but USB mouse might sometimes. But ;ately it is entering either S3 or S4 it fails to enter and returns to log in. Here the only changes I made during my 4GHz stabilitytesting was upping NB/SB cores to 1.176v and fixing uclk to 3200 (for use @ DDR1600)
There's a thread about the cold boot issue, enable video s3 fixes it. Or is it disabling it... basically change the default value to the other value... I haven't had one cold boot issue since.Quote:

Researching a good, yet affordable overclocking RAM in teh DDR1600 range to hit up to or above 1850. I wanna start at cl 6 or 7 stock 1600.

When I had the bios version before 0904(can`t remember the number:) ) I didnt have coldboots but on that bios the minimum Voltage for my OC was 1.40V or it would freeze on stress but on 0904 that im running now i can have less than 1.35 and its stable but maybe I will try a newer BIOS later.
I think Gene is going to be the new legendary mobo rivaling p5bdeluxe as well as the good ol' dfi lan party nf4
Recently got my RIIG. Very nice mobo. Affordable and good for the usual 4-4.2Ghz 24/7 o/c.
Happy so far. I'm on Bios 1202 no cold boot issues, resuming after sleep mode etc. We'll see how it all pans out. I'm running at 4Ghz for my daily with CL6 ~1680Mhz B2B Auto 211x19 - nice bandwith :)

OK, so i'm on my own here too. Wel I found out 904 BIOS was fine to run i7 930 and it felt fine but I moved to 1202 to see if can resolve the ACPI failure issues and it enters but doesn't resume from S3 but it does from S4 but with a reqiured reset half the time.

K, so I baught a i7 950 for my Rampage II Extreme at the same time as my i7 930 for this mobo. But just for the heck, even though ASUS support site suggest the 930 was not supported BIOS 904 but rather 1033 and above, it posted and loaded. So is it more of an issue of further CPU feature support since it at least post and boots to Windows 7? I will flash if I need to to 1202 if this is known stabe and to fix the failure to suspend (S3/S4)?
With a decent 920 and a 220 + 320 with GT15s which cools that and a HD5870 what should I expect for 24/7 clock, 4.5?
Can somebody measure their mosfet cooler from hole to hole to see what size it is in mm or inches is ok? I have my copper coolers off older Rampage x48 and want to use one but I cant get in close or see good enough to measure withoug removing my CPU cooler. I thought if somebody has it out or already has that info can share so we can shop for cooler parts.

I got what feels like a good stable ACPI support with my current stable 4.2GHz profile on this mobo. I had to rais the IOH/ICH (NB/SB) cores volts to 1.20 to stabalize boot into RAID controller under this profile. I also upped PLL to 1.86 and was able to lower vcore to 1.33v , QPI to 1.33 (1.30 effective). So it is clear that much like the OC of the Q6600 on my origional RAMPAGE EXTREME, PLL doeas play an important role of stability of quad core OC at the upper end of over 4.10. I can get 4.305 but needs some fine tuning but I believe 4.209GHz with its fair temps of 36 idle are nice for a daily user where I get close to 40c at 4.305GHz.
For my responce to ACPI stability, I tested with various BIOS settings and came to find out it wosk smoothly if leaving most of the suspend and ACPI modes to default; ACPI 2.0 support to OFF, post video on resume from S3 NO, Suspend mode to AUTO. I'm not sure if the last here has anything to do with but fr the sake of , I have plug n play BIOS set to NO.
I had an issue with my mobo not restarting after what was a routine BIOS setting, nothing outside of the norm and it would just shut off after selecting save and exit. Then upon reset, it attemps to start but shuts doan then a quick but short surge of power apears to try to come back on but goes out and will do this for a sycle of time. The st time was day before yesterday and I had to shut down clear CMOS, pull battery and tap pwr button for 10 minutes and it was ok but them it happened again tonight. Again, nothing major in BIOS changed. Also I had some weirdness with booting to RAID 0+1 disc set on a test OC and now when back to regular profile it hangs on loading but is fine if I boot as single of the 1 disc in EIDE mode.
Any ideas to either, They soert of both came around the same time.

I am not sure if you completed the bios update while the board was in a overclocked state. I would advise you set the board to bios defaults and reflash with the current build. Once complete reload bios defaults and see it posts wtihout issues. If goes gets through that without issues i would then advise you re enable your raid functionality and check for a normal post/boot. If that clears then proceed to relock in your overclock ( assuming you had one present ).

Pls, put your settings for overclocking BCLK=200 or more (i7 920) , but then my memory to slip during acceleration.
Mobo itself exposes agresivnye timings (777) on which the boot can not ... it happens with old in the cold.
turning the voltage does not help, timings Fix, also does not help :(
